I'm still in the process of binge watching these (it's half term so I should probably manage it lol), but I've just seen the first episode and was really impressed, it's lost none of it's shock factor and twisted humour, I particularly loved the morose soundtrack throughout contrasting the happiness of the world. Really worked well. I think I would be a 3.5 at best in that world lmao, I don't really buy into this whole like/share/rating culture going on and it was still quite chilling, even if this was a relatively light hearted episode by the show's standards!

Hoping the next few live up to the standard here, already a bit scared to see Shut Up & Dance.

Wow. 'Shut Up and Dance' may possibly be one of the nastiest hours of TV which I've ever seen.

I found the last two episodes to be rather lacklustre personally, they dragged on a little and I found it hard to really care.

The first four are superb though, I think 'Nosedive' is easily my favourite followed by 'San Jupiter' which isn't very Black Mirror, but it is very cute.

Max Richter scores Nosedive which was a great call, his music matches the relentlessly sugary and happy imagery (much like Danny L Harle's recent video) - I thought it made a great commentary on how we as a society are so preoccupied with what everyone thinks of us, and how social media is amplifying this.

I've watched the first four, and I've loved it. Most people seem to be saying episodes 5 and 6 aren't so great but I was captivated by Nosedive. One of the best hours of Tv I've ever seen, and San Jupiter was my second favourite, just beautiful. I enjoyed episode 2 but found it a bit manic and found the main protagonist a little irritating. I didn't take a whole lot away from episode 3 other than an unsettling feeling.

Watched them all apart from episode 6 (as I'll have to set aside a bit of time considering it's length).

San Junipero was beautiful to watch, almost cried at the end! laugh.gif

Shut Up and Dance is so twisted...funny to have your perceptions of a situation flipped 180 but it's classic Black Mirror.

San Junipero is so gorgeous, aesthetically, musically, the plot line, very different (and quite heartbreaking) but I adore it.

I'm glad San Junipero is getting love on here, from what I've read, it's one of the episodes that isn't viewed so favourably.

Weird, most of the reviews I've read have it down as the highlight of the series, loads of people on my Facebook are singling out that episode too.

I always say this about Black Mirror episodes but it would make a great film. Not sure if it beats The Entire History Of You or Be Right Back as my absolute favourites though.

Wow, 'Shut Up and Dance' really is fantastically dark. It builds up really well and that ending really shocked me even when he was talking to the guy he had to fight with, I didn't expect him to be p****!. It really does change your perspective on the whole events of the episode but then you're also thinking, what does that say about me?

'Playtest' didn't really engage me all the way through like the other two episodes have so far until say the last 10/15 minutes or so when, once again, the rug is pulled underneath your feet and the whole perspective changes.

Also, this is really interesting, it tells you about the different easter eggs in each episode that suggest all the episodes take place in the same universe!: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...n-a7384756.html

I think San Junipero is my favourite of the series. As Gooddelta said, it was just a really beautiful episode on every level.

So I've finally finished watching them all and I really enjoyed the final episode of series 3, surprised it hasn't been mentioned more on here. I found the concept completely believable (well maybe not the method but the concept wasn't that far off what I could imagine) and I found it to be like a weird futuristic Prime Suspect style episode.

The fifth episode was definitely the low point of the series for me, I kinda saw it coming a mile off and also didn't really care that much for the characters either.

San Junipero remains my favourite of all 3 series though.

I would rank them:

Nosedive > Hated In The Nation > San Junipero > Shut Up & Dance > Playtest > Men Against Fire

I REALLY liked all of them, all raising extremely relevant and scary points about technology. I think Nosedive is still narrowly my favourite though mainly cos of the wonderful theme, colour palette and soundtrack combination.

Hated In The Nation was an excellent crime epic that could've easily been a standalone movie (absolutely loved the song that played during when the bees attacked at the end) and I loved the message about mobs against hated celebrities. San Junipero was very different but beautifully filmed and executed, refreshing yet also quite tragic in it's themes, still it did at least address a positive and hopeful side of technology at least partially. Shut Up & Dance kinda played the same tricks as White Bear in it's final twist, but still immensely disturbing and it definitely felt the most 'classic' Black Mirror of all the episodes.

Playtest and Men Against Fire were a bit weaker than the others if just cos I saw the twist coming in both, though the former was suitably grim and the ending was really quite heart-racing stuff and the latter worked quite well as a 1984 meets Full Metal Jacket kinda episode.

Honestly, it may be less subtle, but any doubts I had about Netflix taking this series have been proven wrong, this was a cracking set of episodes.

I definitely think 'Playtest' and 'Men Against Fire' were the weakest but there were still all strong in their own ways! I would maybe go:

01. Nosedive
02. San Junipero
03. Hated in the Nation
04. Shut Up & Dance
05. Playtest
06. Men Against Fire

The first four are all like 10/10 though and I feel like it has been a brilliant series, it's certainly going to be a long wait for the next lot of episodes! Its truly helped to cement itself as one of my favourite series now and increased my love for Charlie Brooker.

'San Junipero' was absolutely beautiful to watch, and that's not really I would expect to describe a Black Mirror episode! I think it worked really well by dropping various clues and hints at the beginning where you soon get to the point where you're thinking 'what's really going on!!!'. Both of the lead actors were brilliant in it and it was a really sweet story!

I think 'Men Against Fire' was perhaps too in your face and didn't pull it off as effectively as the other not as subtle episodes. Like Dandy said, I didn't care for the characters really and especially not in the same way as I did for the characters in the other episodes. It did showcase a good message but it just wasn't that effective.

'Hated in the Nation' was brilliant and, along with 'Nosedive', it's a perfect display of my general feelings of social media. I don't understand why everyone turns so vicious, throwing around every insult under the sun just because... they can? And how people can just jump on a bandwagon by using a hashtag such as #deathto. The way it unfolded in regards to the hashtag and the public reaction is exactly what I feel would happen! Can never look at a bee the same way again though...

I subscribed to Netflix at the start of the year in preparation for Unfortunate Events and I've just finished watching series 3 of this after a couple of my friends were talking about it and recommending it.

Shut Up & Dance > Nosedive > Playtest > Hated in the Nation > San Junipero > Men Against Fire

I watched Shut Up & Dance first after really liking Alex Lawther in the movie "Departure" last year and it was gripping and exactly what I came to love about the show. That's probably why San Junipero ranks next to last, I've loved the 'twisted' nature and I found it a bit on the dull side in comparison, but I can see why it stands out to people and some find it a highlight because it's more light in tone.

Hated in the Nation felt like it ended quite suddenly despite being the longest of all the episodes by a significant amount. laugh.gif It reminded me of "Nerve" with the game aspect.

Nosedive I think was the best / most relevant with the theme. I really don't get why some people are so obsessed with followers / likes, I appreciate my technology but I don't get glued to my phone and it makes me sad sometimes seeing when people do. The exchanging of five star ratings was just so fake, like what's even the point?

Would love the 3D Whack-a-Mole technology that was in Playtest :') The scene where he's being attacked in the house by the woman he hooked up with was probably the most uncomfortable of the series for me.

The first three are quite clearly ahead of the last three for me but Men Against Fire is the only one I didn't particularly care for / take much away from. Can't wait for the next set of episodes (and to catch up on those that were on C4!)

So I've just finished watching every Black Mirror episode over the course of a couple of weeks and I, well, aside from predictably loving it and kicking myself for taking way too long to get on board, really felt quite affected by 'San Junipero' and 'Shut Up And Dance', for opposite reasons.

For a series 3 rank:
San Junipero > Shut Up And Dance > Hated In The Nation > Nosedive > Playtest > Men Against Fire

San Junipero really stood out because I, having also watched series 1 and 2 very recently, was at this point really well aware of the dark shit the show would try and pull and was completely ready for... something bad to happen and that it didn't but that it ended up being an hour of television where everyone was a good person, the technology was good (and unlike most Black Mirror shows hope for our future instead of darkness, there's no catch, the technology is great, it's amazing, everyone can live in a paradise forever if they so choose, that's the human dream!) and it went so hard against the previous Black Mirror formula that it struck me and I'm still thinking about it and will probably tear/majorly choke up whenever I hear 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' from now on.

Shut Up And Dance was the best of the dark ones because of how desperate and f***ed up it felt through what is essentially anonymous vigilantism - and of course the twist which was one twist I didn't see coming even if I did have a suspicion about his worry about just being caught masturbating. Completely in contrast to San Junipero, it ended in a dark place where no one gets out well, none of the characters are good people, and that nothing is being done to stop it continuing to happen. Basically those two complement each other very well by taking the mood to each extreme - and right next to each other in order as well, it was quite good for mood that San Junipero was straight after Shut Up And Dance (indeed I went straight onto SJ from SUAD) although the ending of San Junipero would have been amazing as a series finisher.

Hated In The Nation was also pretty great, partly because I've loved Faye Marsay in everything I've seen of her and she was excellent here but this one did feel like a pretty great crime drama as well as a little bit of a political thriller, like with The National Anthem but focused on the detective team and addressing something I've always been concerned about, the anonymous online hate, and why I dislike using social media. On a similar note, something like this but from another angle, focusing on gutting the people who group people and attack them as groups, your anti-SJWers, your anti-PC crowd, the anti-feminists, anyone who's anti something, would be something that another Black Mirror episode could go into because that's where I think the tone has shifted now, it's less a focus on a hate target of the day and more of a focus on forming up into groups and belligerenting the crap out of all the other groups. Still, it was pretty well-paced and used a believable murder weapon.

The other three, Nosedive was uncomfortable to watch because of how fake everyone was being, I think if that was everyday life, more people would get sick of fake niceness and people would start rating gadflies higher and everyone becomes a dick. But again, relateable and had a great point to make. Playtest and Men Against Fire were a little predictable with the triple fakeout for the former (would have been better if it ended on the double fakeout with his mom still having the same disease his father did). And for the latter, I saw everything in it coming a mile off, even if it had a good point to make about war, it felt too much like I was watching someone play Call Of Duty at times and I didn't enjoy it as much as the others.

Loved reading those thoughts Iz! I agree that everytime I hear 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth' now, I always reflect on San Junipero and it does bring out a lot more emotions than it did prior to watching the episode! It reallt shows how impactful the whole thing was. I'm planning on watching my favourite episodes from Series 3 again soon and really looking forward to watching that one again.

-x-

Charlie Brooker has teased Series 4. It contains a comedy episode (more comedic than ever before) but still some unpleasant moments, an indie movie/drama directed by Jodie Foster with a mother and daughter relationship, a crime thriller and one that's got relationships at the heart of it. They're filming an episode in Iceland currently and the other two episodes are still being worked on in terms of writing!
