The ratings this Christmas / New Year have been really bad tbf. Nothing's done as well as it should have - I guess we'll see how things change once catchup is taken into account!

I posted some Christmas Day official ratings in the Christmas Highlights thread and all shows had healthy gains from the overnights. I suspect other shows shown over the festive period will see similar improvements.

University Challenge: 3.14m (13.3%)

Incredible for Eastenders! Up year-on-year whilst the other two soaps are a little down. Hope that EE can keep the momentum going.

I suppose it's a similar drop year-on-year that 2016's winter series got and that series ended up getting good ratings further along, but I can't really see anything happening to give this series a boost. That said, who could have anticipated the events that took place last series?

(I still can't see it though. I know this is subject, but the line-up is pretty poor this year too, particularly the "all stars" line-up when you consider the gems they've had in the past).

It gets much more consistent praise than Eastenders and Corrie and no negative press as far as I am aware. It also seems to use social media better, seems to have storyline twists plotted at the right times and has become very successful with award ceremonies. Essentially everything is working its favour to keep viewers interested as well as spark interest from casual viewers.

Not great for The Voice, I expected a drop but it should've been a bit over 6m as a minimum.

Never expected Let It Shine to get that much! Was expecting 3-4m, I guess that and The Voice ratings show that a some people may just have BBC One on as a default channel.

Eek, what happened to Sherlock as well? Of course it will beat them in the official ratings but I would never have thought that Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and Let it Shine would beat it in the overnights!

Sherlock ohmy.gif Lowest ever overnight! I'm not surprised people switched off after I saw the bad reception last week. It's a shame because this week was fantastic.

I'm guessing it's possible Endeavour took away some of the audience, what with it having the hour head start. That and the fact it does seem NYD's episode received some negative feedback. I'm sure it'll get a huge time-shift as per, especially with it getting good reviews in contrast to before, but it's just shocking to see such a huge show get overnight ratings so much under what it usually gets.

Disappointing for Eastenders, back down to nearly normal levels. sad.gif I suppose there's not been anything to retain its audience atm. Emmerdale 440k down week-on-week whereas Corrie is pretty stationary.

Silent Witness up 280k week-on-week whilst The Halcyon is down 750k.

I was also disappointed with the EE figure when I saw it earlier sad.gif Hopefully the Denise drama on Thursday/Friday might prop the show up a bit.
