So, 20 years ago this week what is arguably the most famous chart battle of all time took place. The eventual winners were Blur, but which do you now think is the better song of the 2 and has fared better over the years?

Neither were the best tracks from their albums imo, Blur had the Universal and Oasis followed Roll With It with both Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger, far better songs and future classics of Britpop.

I didn't like “Country House” (or Blur) at the time, however I did think it sounded like a No.1 at least. “Roll With It” is Oasis-by-numbers but it was the better song IMO. It's a classic North versus South battle though, and just in most battles of these sorts the South of course won.

I think in terms of career heights Oasis’ were higher but Blur were more consistent.

It's always Blur!!!! Such an iconic band for me, and I always loved them more.

Oasis, while I do like them, they always seemed too pretentious to function for me.

Oasis pretty much do what they do better than anyone in history in saying that I think blur are a better band due to their uniqueness and each release sounded so different taking things from different genres etc.

Roll With It. Always prefer Oasis to Blur really, they did britpop better. Country House isn't bad though so it's not like Oasis missing out was a huge injustice. And of course Oasis had many more number ones than Blur in the end biggrin.gif

'Country House' for me, although Blur have a lot of much better tracks (not to say this isn't good though!). Damon has a much better voice than Liam I think, as does Noel which is partly why I love 'The Importance of Being Idle' and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' so much.

I bought myself a Blur GH the other day and I'm loving it so much! 'The Universal' has been tainted somewhat by that bloody British Gas advert though!

"Roll With It", it's actually one of my favourite Oasis tracks, it sounds very Beatles-inspired to me and whilst I do like a few Blur songs this isn't one of my faves. Plus, I'm from Manchester so... you know.

Blur - Country House

I don't remember any of these songs from the time but having listened to both songs in the years that have passed since then I much prefer Blur's song.

I was always a more "Country House" fan than "Roll With It" although in terms of 90s output I prefer Oasis on the whole. I remember all the press around it at the time was crazy but I didn't buy either of the singles at the time.

I bought both at the time but don't particularly care for either in retrospect!

Country House was almost a parody of a Blur song and was from their weakest era quality wise, Roll With It was a bit ordinary and the worst single from that Oasis album but probably just about wins out...

Country House, marginally, but neither are amazing songs.

I used to read The Beano at the time (I was 10 so it's fine tongue.gif) and there were lots of 'would you like a roll with it?' jokes in it around that time, this battle had a biiiiig cultural impact absolutely everywhere in the UK.

Country House is as complex, musically as Parklife or Girls and Boys and I will always stand up for Graham Coxon's guitar fills through out the song.

Coxon’s guitar work is (as always) great particularly his solo in the middle, but I just couldn't stand the faux-Cockney accent and lyrics which came off as a bit rhyming dictionary. The album it is taken from has much better on it, as does Oasis’.

I like Oasis but I've always preferred Blur and that doesn't change when it comes to these songs.

Roll With It, narrowly, but both were quite standard and each act had far, far better songs (Song 2/Tender were both WAY better than Blur's two number 1s and Oasis had much better number 2 peaking tracks as well!).

The b-side Rocking Chair was better than Roll With It.

Roll With It is good but Country House is easily superior heart.gif Kinda wish I'd been around to witness the hysteria over this (well, i was "around" but my 1 year-old self was obviously none the wiser to the music charts!)

I'd say both songs aren't these groups at their best... but I'd probably lean towards Country House.

For me Oasis blow Blur away in almost every department but Country House is my favourite Blur track & Roll With It is one of my least favourite Oasis tracks so this the possibly the only head-to-head battle between the 2 where I back Blur.
