I'd like her to touch on the sort of thing she got with 'Timebomb' and 'Glow', and to make an album of that sort of quality. Or even just something anthemic, or an artistic exploration like Impossible Princess as she's got nothing to lose commercially any more.

With Kiss Me Once, in hindsight some of it is quite 'basic' and business as usual Kylie. Either way I don't expect we'll get an album for at least another 15 months.

Posted by: Aphrodite Jan 10 2016, 12:40 AM

I cant see any album coming this year, most likely mid 2017, apart from a possible re issue of Kylie Christmas. I hope Kylie stays away from some of the work she has this last year or so as i havnt really enjoyed any of that music. Its very hard to call whats the best move for Kylie.

Commercially she probably hasnt anything to lose, based on my own likes id love an all out pop album. Some of my favourite Kylie singles are different in sound though so i cant put my finger on what sound im looking for. All the Lovers was the last Kylie single i can honestly say i loved, but i really enjoyed Aphrodite as an album. I think to match what i like and possibly achieve some commercial success i would like a sound similar to a mixture of slow and breathe if that's possible. Ideally the ext album will have a monster lead single like Cant get you out of my head but thats not likely to happen. A killer duet could be no harm either if they could come up with the right sound.

Personally I would love her to work with Garibay on a Impossible Princess / X hybrid album

Posted by: SmileyKylie Jan 10 2016, 09:25 PM

I would like some real dance orientated pop..

on the lines of the Change Your Mind song from 'X' era....

I would also like a Confide In Me re-release cry.gif

Posted by: Aphrodite Jan 10 2016, 10:12 PM

Def not a confide in me re-release, once was enough thank you very much. X was a mixed album but had a good and a bad half, an album on the lines of the good half including stompers like The One and Like a Drug would be nice for the new album.

I'd be good with that!

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Jan 11 2016, 05:50 AM

Something that sounds in line with all her works with Garibay, both EPs are equally good in their different ways.

Giorgio Moroder to be her next producer please!

Posted by: slowdown73 Jan 11 2016, 11:18 AM

I want something mature sounding...not Kiss me once. Kylie Christmas and Abbey Roads were both fantastic. Her voice was amazing and the songs sounded so good.

Posted by: pippa Jan 11 2016, 03:25 PM

The Abbey Roads Sessions were good, Flower was the standout on this era. I would love her to work with an orchestra, it worked fantastically well on the Kylie Christmas show, i really think she could produce a great album from going down this avenue.

Posted by: Regina Jan 11 2016, 03:26 PM

Dark and twisted electro pop please. Alanis Morissette meets GaribayKylie.

Change Your Mind was from the early Aphrodite era.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Jan 17 2016, 03:22 PM

Oh by the way, a duet album with Dannii would be lovely and then they can go on to tour together.

Posted by: Regina Jan 17 2016, 03:28 PM

No.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Jan 19 2016, 03:41 PM

Why not? I actually want them to work together for a whole album.

Posted by: pippa Jan 20 2016, 02:11 PM

I would question would a Kylie and Dannii duet album be excellent or a complete disaster.

Posted by: slowdown73 Jan 20 2016, 05:29 PM

I can't see a whole Kylie/Dannii album being a major success - I think it would only be popular with hardcore fans. However, another Kylie/Dannii duet along the disco/pop avenue of 100 degrees would certainly be welcome.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 20 2016, 08:00 PM

I think anything Kylie releases wouldn't really achieve sales outside the core fanbase anyway.

Posted by: Regina Jan 20 2016, 08:46 PM

A Kylie/Dannii collab album would be a commercial disaster and ruin both their careers.

Posted by: Euphorique Jan 20 2016, 09:20 PM

They should've done a collab back in the early 2000s, would've been a guaranteed #1 hit.

Posted by: Regina Jan 28 2016, 06:41 PM

It did seem odd they never made the most of them both being popular at the same time.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Jan 29 2016, 05:46 AM

Any rumours about who she is working with for the new album? Or is she even recording?

From what we know, so far there is no plan for an album in 2016 but there may be a couple songs out which feat Kylie

Posted by: Regina Feb 1 2016, 10:06 AM

I thought she'd already started on it and was aiming for 2016 release?

Posted by: mr_pmt Feb 1 2016, 10:38 AM

I very much doubt it'll be this year, I just can't see it. Summer 2017 at the earliest.

Posted by: Regina Feb 1 2016, 11:15 AM

Did I dream it then? Its pretty likely.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Feb 3 2016, 02:13 PM

Honestly, I think she has a greater chance to sell more albums by releasing it at the end of the year.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Feb 6 2016, 09:50 PM

She looked really well at the Princes trust awards and that picture with Joanna Lumley..... ahhhhhhhhhhh gorgeous pair.

fingers crossed she has had the last week of Dec off and whole of January with her boyf so now I would hope a new album...... could well come in the autumn... but more likely 2017....

I can also see another greatest hits coming out low key.....

Posted by: Regina Feb 6 2016, 10:00 PM

She's had exactly zero hits since the last one, pointless much?

Posted by: SmileyKylie Feb 6 2016, 10:08 PM

I can just see a Parlophone one coming...

Posted by: Regina Feb 6 2016, 10:16 PM

SHe's not with Parlo anymore, if one was happening it would have done so already.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Feb 8 2016, 03:25 PM

I am not sure which record company is willing to sign her following the dismal performance of KMO.

Posted by: Regina Feb 8 2016, 03:31 PM

It was hardly dismal, besides, Kylie Christmas did better and she is still a valuable name, it'd be dumb to assume she'd get better than a Gold album or a top 20
single these days.

Posted by: Umi Feb 8 2016, 08:40 PM

I would be surprised if she struggled to get a label - I imagine she's still pretty profitable with mediocre album sales, even if her promotional budget has to be slashed significantly from what it once was. It's not as if she got dropped by Parlo - she wanted to go, didn't she?

Posted by: Regina Feb 8 2016, 08:47 PM

She was on an album by album type of deal I think, so after each era she had the choice to either stay or go.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Feb 9 2016, 02:30 AM

She was in the Studio today with Guy Chambers...... a good sign...

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Feb 9 2016, 05:19 AM

Guy Chambers? The guy that produced Kids for her and Robbie, no thanks, sounds so 90s to me.

Posted by: Regina Feb 9 2016, 08:20 PM

:/ he's written and produced songs since then, he's hardly going to do Kids pt.2. Besides, we don't know if its writing or producing yet.

Posted by: Regina Apr 10 2016, 12:35 PM

Working with Bonnie McKee cheer.gif her stuff is amazing and might prove fruitful for Kylie.

bonniemckee: Just @kylieminogue without a stitch of makeup looking like a goddess. 😍 blissful day at the studio yesterday w Kylie and #cutfather #danieldavidson #peterwallevik

Although worryingly, the guys she's with worked on Million Miles and Sexy Love.

Posted by: pippa Apr 11 2016, 01:41 PM

I always welcome a Kylie release and new material. On this occasion i wont raise my hopes too much as i have felt so disappointed by all her recent output.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Apr 11 2016, 03:12 PM

Sounds interesting.

Posted by: Euphorique Apr 11 2016, 07:29 PM

The last album I enjoyed by her was X so I'm not holding my breath. Still hopeful though

Posted by: slowdown73 Apr 11 2016, 10:17 PM

The next album sounds interesting but for me Kylie has been a bit hit and miss in the last 10 years. Kylie Christmas was good, KMO was bad, Aphrodite was good but X wasn't.

Posted by: pippa Apr 12 2016, 02:01 PM

X was and remains excellent in parts and forgettable in others, but some songs are sublime that i enjoy immensely. Aphrodite has one of my favourite ever Kylie songs, All The Lovers and is a solid album. Kiss Me Once is disappointing and forgettable. Kylie Christmas was average, that said it was the Kylie Christmas Show that made that era rather than the album itself. The non album singles dropped in the last 2 years have been awful.

Posted by: bat52390 Apr 13 2016, 05:58 PM

I love "Million Miles" so I'm okay with that, though KMO was very mixed for me.

I'd also take something in the vein of "Get Outta My Way" - The global smash that never was cry.gif cry.gif

Posted by: pippa Apr 14 2016, 01:23 PM

I never got the whole Get Outta my Way love, with singles up to that point of her career it was very mediocre.

Posted by: Monzo Apr 16 2016, 12:03 PM

On which record label will the album be released? And has Kylie found a new management company yet?

Posted by: Regina Apr 16 2016, 02:27 PM

Both seem to be up in the air right now.

Posted by: Regina Oct 11 2016, 10:06 AM

So, her FB has been updated with these images:

And there's a new logo apparantly

Neither scream Christmas or follow the feel of the calendar, so maybe new music is on the way? But knowing Kylie it'll be a small tour where she only sings songs with Love in the
title or something shit like perfume.

New album confirmed for 2017! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Dec 13 2016, 10:09 AM

I wonder if she will still release it through Parlophone.

Posted by: slowdown73 Dec 14 2016, 06:41 PM

I seriously think this could be Kylie's last studio album given her age and down turn in sales over recent years. I just can't see her carrying on forever but think she will continue to make money by touring.

I can't envisage that, somehow. She'll still release stuff and her core fanbase will still purchase it (even if in ever decreasing quantities).

She did say with regards to that new album that she'd "like to release it in 2017". Knowing her as I do, that means we'll probably get it at the end of the decade.

She has signed to a new label, BMG.
Universal also tried to sign, but she went with BMG due a working relationship with Jamie Nelson who she worked with during the Light Years/Fever era

Quietly excited...

Posted by: pippa Jan 23 2017, 02:36 PM

Would a summer release similar to Aphrodite be the likely outcome here?

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Jan 24 2017, 03:01 AM

I reckon she should stick with her usual November timeline to get more sales in Christmas.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 24 2017, 04:18 PM

Ideally, I'd want a lead single in time for the summer, then a second single getting a push at the same time of the album release in October time. Kylie always gets good winter promo slots but I wouldn't want her to risk release too close to the Christmas market in case the album gets lost in the charts, so October seems a good compromise to get a good peak and hopefully decent sales in the run up to Christmas, where she is bound to get a Strictly and/or X Factor slot as well as a performance on a chat show etc.

Posted by: pippa Jan 24 2017, 04:51 PM

Very valid points, looking at sales October is better for her although on a lower position. A summer release would increase her chances of number of 1.

Ideally, Kylie would release in Summer and get a number 1 album. October should see a full on re-release with heavy promotion, its an approach that could work if she has strong enough material to promote. Both Kylie and the record company need to concentrate on promoting the album and investing in the album to push it. Rick Astley is a fine example of how you can have a hit album (exceeding all expectations) if handled properly.

Kylie is in a stronger position than Rick Astley and could easily achieve a platinum album if the campaign is handled correctly. That said, i cant see the album doing any more than 100,000 and outside the lead single the rest of the campaign will be a total mess.

Posted by: Regina Jan 24 2017, 05:36 PM

No no NO to the re-release bullshit. Waste of time and effort. Why save songs and promotion till after all hype has gone?

I think she'd be in for a chance of #1 even in October. The past couple of Octobers have seen some very low sales so Kylie would definitely have the Top 3 on lock. August would increase her chances even more, true, but it would lessen her chances of mustering up any sort of decent longevity, as chances are the album would have nose-dived by the time a performance slot on Strictly/X Factor arrived.

I'd quite like to see the usual consistent promo on album release week and then a biggy like Strictly or X Factor or whatever in week 2 or 3. Kylie has a strong enough fanbase to get a good first week position and sales but it's after that where the problem lies. That's also why I think it would be good to have the lead single somewhat distant from the album release, so that promo can be done for that song whilst the pre-orders tick up, then get on with promoting an "album-seller-friendly" second single at the time the album does get released.

I mean, no matter how thought out the campaign is, there's going to be a ceiling in terms of Kylie's possible success at this point, but I see no reason why she can't get a Gold selling album which is quite the feat for anyone these days.

If the right material is there it can work as we have seen so many times by other artists. If done correctly it adds further hype to the initial hype.

Posted by: Regina Jan 24 2017, 08:34 PM

Never before has Kylie been able to deliver a halfway decent re-release. Nothing to suggest she ever will.

Posted by: pippa Jan 24 2017, 08:35 PM

That is my point, she hasnt so its about time she learned.

Posted by: Regina Jan 24 2017, 09:01 PM

She hasn't learned in 30 odd years so why waste time trying now?

Posted by: pippa Jan 25 2017, 03:10 PM

No, but she has learned how to turn her career around on more than one occasion.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 25 2017, 08:05 PM

It was a lot easier to come back from that at the turn of the century though, plus she wasn't in as bad a position as she's in now and she's a lot older as well.

Posted by: pippa Jan 26 2017, 08:05 PM

I would have thought she was in a worse position career wise before she signed to parlophone, the singles (wrongly so) flopped, Impossible Princess was a flop and she was seen by many seen as a has been. As bad as Kiss Me Once was, it sold better than Impossible Princess and she was still doing very well on her tours which was also not the case back in 1999.

That said, age, as sad as it is to say, is against her this time round.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 26 2017, 09:48 PM

I just don't see it, at this stage I'm fairly certain she'll never have a top 40 hit again.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 26 2017, 09:59 PM

I can see her getting a Top 40 hit quite easily, but achieving any further weeks there will be a struggle.

I know it was seen as disappointing at the time, but I'd be absolutely thrilled to see her manage a chart run like she did for 'Into the Blue' at this point in time.

Posted by: gooddelta Jan 29 2017, 04:57 PM

A Timebomb-esque low top 40 hit is the very best she can hope for now as she just won't get the streams, sadly, but she could quite feasibly get an iTunes top 20 with a lead single.

I couldn't really care less about singles success for her now though, as anybody her age is practically a write-off in terms of single chart success due to the crappy ageism in the industry and the way streaming metrics work against anybody of a certain age even moreso now.

I just want a killer pop album that doesn't try to chase trends to get a hit, but stands tall on its own merits, which Kiss Me Once arguably struggled to do.

There's no reason she can't have a decent-sized album if the material is good and appealing to the people that are likely to buy it (coming out with a tropical house track isn't going to sell albums and it won't help her have a hit single again either).

Posted by: pippa Jan 30 2017, 08:19 PM

I would like to believe Kylie can have a hit again, but to stand a slight chance of doing so she needs a strong song. Another banger like Cant Get You Out Of My Head would be ideal, but unlikely.

I do know age is a problem, and radio is ageist but Kylie;s biggest problem is the music. The singles are either not strong enough or the release strategy is an absolute disaster. For Kylie to have a hit she has a few issues to address that she has control of to fix.

Posted by: Cameron Feb 8 2017, 11:34 PM

She has been working with Lauren Aquilina today *.* Kylie is coming for an incredible ballad.

Posted by: pippa Feb 15 2017, 07:32 PM

I have enjoyed several of Kylie;s ballads but it appears most fans do not enjoy them as much.

Posted by: slowdown73 Feb 15 2017, 11:43 PM

Unfortunately, streaming and lack of airplay will go against Kylie in terms of singles. The only chance of a reasonable hit is with someone like Calvin Harris. However, I do believe she could sell a decent number of albums if the right material is released. It needs to be a maturer sound suitable for her age and not all this cringey sex stuff like on kiss me once or Americanised sound.

Yes I agree but the reason why Kylie decided to go with BMG is because the guy she worked with from the Fever era and he promised the next album to be a "big classic Kylie pop record" which is, you know, more of the same stuff.

Ballad and Kylie usually don't mix well, the most notable standout being "Bittersweet Goodbye" but I love Flowers and her duet with Hurts, as well as ballads on KM 94 and IP album.

Posted by: Regina Feb 16 2017, 01:34 PM

Considering who she is working with, there's a chance whatever she did with Lauren could be a melancholic up or mid tempo. Let's not write everything off before we

I don't want to get my hopes up because I know what the media are like for over-hyping things but, I have to admit, I am liking what I'm hearing from that article. Working with big pop producers; 90s dance throwback; LGBTQ protest songs - it's like Kylie has dropped the attempts to reclaim younger audiences and is just embracing everything that her fans love and want from her.

I know The Sun is not exactly the most reliable media outlet.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jun 3 2017, 04:41 PM

I'm not allowing myself to get my hopes up for this as I was so disappointed with Kiss me Once, sometimes I think the next album can only be better. I'd love another Light years style comeback.

Posted by: slowdown73 Jun 3 2017, 11:28 PM

I think this album will be a lot better than kiss me once. When she started with Parlophone, they released light years which is still one of her best albums released under that label. She is working with some cool producers so Ive got my fingers crossed. She's unlikely to have a big hit again thanks to streaming but she still has a loyal fan base!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jun 4 2017, 09:45 PM

Ya, regardless of the song she will struggle with the singles, id be happy for a top 20 for the lead single, i hope she releases a phyisical cd single version as she has the fan base (me included) who would buy it. Take That done this with Giants and it was what got it into the top 15.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jun 5 2017, 12:10 PM

I really can't see her realistically having a top 40 hit ever again, especially in this current climate.

A Sigala produced song excites me. ohmy.gif

Posted by: Regina Jun 5 2017, 12:50 PM

I'd say top 40 is achievable, but somewhere between 25-39. Certainly not top 20 or above. Album will be safely top 10 and at least Silver, which is all we can hope for.

Posted by: pippa Jun 5 2017, 02:24 PM

I believe top 40 is extremely achievable for her if she gets everything right. A good song that her fans want, good promotion and marketing would be hugely helpful and i would totally welcome a physical release either on vinyl or cd or possibly both. Doing this could potentially add 10,000 sales on release week.

Her album should go minimum top 5, again, if released at the right time, on a quiet week she could be in the running for number 1.

Posted by: liamk97 Jul 24 2017, 06:46 PM

Come up on my Facebook feed that Kylie's working with songwriter Amy Wadge.

She's co-written a shitload of songs with Ed Sheeran so wouldn't be surprised if one of the songs is pushed as a single in attempt to get a hit.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 24 2017, 06:59 PM

ala 'I Was Gonna Cancel'.

Posted by: liamk97 Jul 24 2017, 07:40 PM

Pretty much. I hope it works for Kylie, not necessarily in terms of the charts, but in terms of actually sounding good. Anything associated with Ed Sheeran usually has me rolling my eyes, but 'Say You Love Me' worked fantastically for Jessie Ware, for instance, so I'm hoping for a similar sort of success.

Posted by: pippa Jul 24 2017, 08:03 PM

I am not what i would say excited on this news as it does not shout Pop Single. She has said she is going back to her pop roots. If this news is true, i get a sense she is chasing trends and as we clearly saw with I was Gonna Cancel this was disastrous for her.

The writing suggests nothing about the sound though?

I got sent another feed yesterday that Kylie is working on a country-influence album and that she is currently recording in Nashville.

Posted by: Shaphne Jul 26 2017, 12:25 PM

I really doubt she's gonna go Country for a whole album, at most there might be a banjo twang or two.

Posted by: liamk97 Jul 26 2017, 12:33 PM

Yeah, I can't see the country genre taking an influence in more than one or two songs, either.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jul 27 2017, 03:17 AM

I'm starting to have serious doubts about the new album. I'm dreading that I could end up finding it worse than kiss me once. I know I have to wait until I hear the music but I really want a Kylie album that I honestly enjoy rather than buying an album to keep my kylie collection complete.

Posted by: liamk97 Jul 27 2017, 04:26 AM

I don't even think Kiss Me Once was a bad album at all. It was just all rather safe and Kylie-by-numbers just done better in the past. Songs like 'Into the Blue', 'Feels So Good' and 'Sleeping with the Enemy' though are among my favourite Kylie tracks.

Posted by: Shaphne Jul 27 2017, 11:13 AM

I think people need to calm down and stop hating on the album before we've even heard anything. None of us know what these songs will sound like or even if they'll make the final cut.

Posted by: Rob Spears Jul 27 2017, 04:47 PM

Not here for a country album, giving me Joanne teas. Otherwise, really excited for new Kylie music!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 27 2017, 05:10 PM

Maybe Kylie's gonna give us her own 'Malibu' or something? laugh.gif

I'll reserve judgement until I hear anything. I'm still excited about Sigala.

Posted by: Shaphne Jul 27 2017, 06:07 PM

At most I see her "country" stuff ending up like Taylor's Red era stuff, i.e pop with a slight country hint.

Something like this would be acceptable too though

Posted by: Mullo Aug 3 2017, 01:21 PM

The album isnt a country album, she was just in Nashville writing with some songwriters. The album is sad to have a 90s dance feel, and the influence is said to be the DNA remix of Toms Diner.

Album looking like either a Q4, or spring 2018 release. See below from Kylie informant...

"It MIGHT be spring again now. Like I keep saying, try not to get bogged down by expectation. Everything is still up in the air. But be encouraged. They’re not letting the album out until, at least they perceive it’s amazing. Obviously fans will be the final judge, but there’s no arbitrary deadline which sacrifices what they think is quality this time. If they finish it in time for November great. If it’s not ready, it’s March. In which case, we’ll probably get a single or two this year. She’s back in London now, and immediately into writing sessions.

I’m glad they’re adopting this tact. Body Language, X and KMO were all rushed to meet specific release dates, and each one would have benefitted a great deal from a few months extra to hone the direction. Fever was rushed too, but they got lucky with those amazing singles.

Arguably Light Years and Impossible Princess are her best albums. They both took quite some time. Kylie’s at her best when she’s inspired and not under time pressure."

From the OCC:

QUOTE
Kylie Minogue's new album is "super positive" and inspired by a break-up
16 October 2017 | By Rob Copsey

The pop superstar is expected to return with new music early next year.

Kylie Minogue has opened up about about her new album, revealing it is inspired by "a little bit of heartbreak".

The pop superstar also described her upcoming collection as "super positive and inspiring" in a new interview with The Sun following her split from fiance Joshua Sasse earlier this year.

“In the last year, there’s been some of that, but we bounce back," she said. "Most of it is super positive and inspiring, as a note to self as much as anything else. I’m feeling great right now."

Kylie has been recording her latest album in Nashville, a process she described as "cathartic", adding: "It was good. In the studio it’s a slightly weird concept to be spending seven, eight, nine hours in a room with people sometimes you don’t know. If you’re working with good people it’s the perfect place to deal with stuff."

After spending much of 2017 recording new music, the star revealed much of the album came together during her two-week trip to Nashville.

"I did a lot of work on the album before that but Nashville had a profound effect on me. The songs are very storytelling and story-based. It was so great to do things a little bit differently.”

The newspaper reports Kylie will release the record's first single in January 2018 with album to follow shortly after, while the singer insisted: "There will be shows next year for sure. I can’t wait to perform again.”

Kylie has notched up an impressive 15 Top 10s on the Official Albums Chart in her 30-year career, five of which have reached Number 1.

Great to finally here some news on when we can expect new music! I'm quite happy with January 2018 - gives us something to look forward to after the busy Christmas period for music.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man Oct 17 2017, 03:28 PM

I would rather her to get into a promotion campaign to push the first single in Jan, released the second single in Feb, the third in March, then an album and a tour.

Posted by: slowdown73 Oct 18 2017, 04:34 PM

I can't help but think Kylie would be better to release something before Christmas, rather than in January when sales are usually quite low. Yeah, sure it's likely to perform better chart position wise but sales are likely to be poor. Kylie Christmas album peaked at no12 and that's for a Christmas album, with good promotion there is every reason to believe she could achieve a top5 album with healthy sales if the material is right.

BREAK UP KYLIE IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Oct 26 2017, 11:23 AM

January is better, she may get lost in the Xmas market.........

She can do promo in Jan & Feb , maybe a TV special/January promo and build the album for the whole year with pricing campaigns etc

the Xmas songs streaming will just have finished and their will be room for Kylie to added to Spotify playlists etc.

Kylie was included in the Official Charts Company's list of Albums to Look Forward to in 2018:

QUOTE
The Australian pop princess's fourteenth studio album is slated for release in 2018. Kylie described the upcoming LP as "super positive and inspiring", while her new label BMG have described her as the "ultimate artist" and said a "great, big, classic Kylie album" is on the way.

Kylie's been recording in Nashville and working with the likes of Sigala and DJ Fresh on new material, and reports suggest we'll be hearing a dancefloor bop very soon - the lead single could drop in January.

Cowboy style ... Kylie’s Parton gift to us all
As 2017 hangs up its hotpants, we’re further from Spinning Around than that song was from I Should Be So Lucky, so it is safe to say Kylie’s turn-of-the-millennium comeback has been something of a success. Kylie will be aiming for her 16th Top 10 album in 2018, with songs that showcase a new focus on lyrical storytelling via themes of “freedom, self-discovery, life and love”. “The album,” Kylie tells the Guide in a short but perfectly formed email that represents the absolute textual embodiment of that’ll-do-nicely, “is a collision of some elements of country and dance, made at the altar of Dolly Parton standing on a dancefloor.”

It will be Kylie’s first album for new label BMG, where she has been reunited with the A&R bigwig who oversaw her 21st-century relaunch, with collaborators including DJ Fresh and long-term associates Biff Stannard and Karen Poole. Recorded throughout 2017, it shifted gear following a trip to Nashville, where the album “found its heart”. “There’s a little bit of heartbreak, I would say,” Kylie noted in October. “But we bounce back. Most of it is super-positive and inspiring, as a note to self as much as anything else. I’m feeling great right now.” PR

Yee-haw! Other dance-country hybrids:

• Rednex Cotton Eye Joe
• Shania Twain Man, I Feel Like a Woman
• Avicii Wake Me Up
• Steps 5, 6, 7, 8
• Madonna Don’t Tell Me

Realistically what's everyone sales expectations for the album? For me if she can outsell kiss me once it would be great.

I'd love a number 1 even if on low sales, a sixth number 1 would be great.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 1 2018, 04:12 PM

I don't think there's any reason why she can't still go Gold with solid promo and well-received songs, but it's hard to tell at this stage how well she'll do.

In terms of first week performance, if she's going for a March release, then she'll easily get another high peak, if not #1.

A friend in the know has told me that apparently the first single is a "dance-pop banger" but apparently most of the rest of the album is more mid-tempo but with vague (but not overwhelming) country influences. Apparently it's more "cohesive".

Apparently it was originally supposed to be 90s dance inspired but the entire direction of the album changed once Nashville happened and the earlier material got scrapped.

I keep thinking that the first single could just drop unannounced any day now and I'm so excited for it!! I can still remember the first time I heard 'Into the Blue' and thought it was so euphoric; I could just listen to it non-stop and still be filled with the same level of joy each time.

Either way i dont think we are too far away from hearing the new material. I hope when they release the single, they go for it and not be messing around with instant grat releases etc.

As i said in a previous post im not allowing myself to get too excited. I was really hyped up for the kiss me once era and while i do like into the blue i wasn't hugely excited when i first heard it.

I imagine Kylie will get similar promo slots as she did for Kiss Me Once - Sports Relief, The Voice, Graham Norton Show. Would be good if she could get a slot on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice too.

Heard rumours she's due to feature in an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race too. *.* Also, I imagine a Carpool Karaoke with James Corden is a given.

Posted by: Regina Jan 12 2018, 08:49 PM

I really want the Drag Race thing to be true. It opens a big market for her, more and more younge rpeople are getting into it and now it's on a bigger network.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 12 2018, 10:37 PM

I've not watched in full before but I do think that would be a really good opportunity for her and it would really give the fans a treat.

I think it might be from KMO, like Beat of my Heart.

Stop Me From Falling

Stay Golden
Lost Without You
Music's Too Sad Without You by Kylie Minogue & Jack Savoretti

Take that with a pinch of salt. Although i think most (if not all) are confirmed as being real songs.
As long as I get my Jack duet I'm happy. His sound actually fits in with her new one (he has some country vibes and electro stuff) and I really think their voices will blend together. The clips of it sound gorgeous too. A nice piano ballad to end the album <3

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 12:27 PM

This is a mess, apparantly the album has had the same thing happen to it as Double Dutchess laugh.gif (I.e someone has snatched it from the servers) Not sure if it's true but MY GOD, do Kylie's team not understand the internet?

Posted by: Mullo Jan 15 2018, 12:51 PM

There are discussions today about bringing the releases forward.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 15 2018, 01:38 PM

'Raining Glitter' better be camp as f***.

Terrible news about the album leak if true. Why does this always happen to my faves?! Quick note though: can we avoid sharing links to any of these leaks should anyone come across them. If they're out there, people can search them theirselves.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Jan 15 2018, 01:46 PM

Didn't she leak the whole of KMO before release so everyone can listen to a 5 min sampler..... I don't think Kylie song leak is that troublesome..... but a whole album leak is bad.

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 01:53 PM

It's not leaked per say, apparantly someone has managed to bag it from a server or someting. I also think the people who got Fergie's album waited a few months befor eleaking it, so it might not leak.

Anyway, Kylie and her team need to hurry the f*** up and officially confirm stuff. The fact that the single has LEAKED and she's not even confirmed the title of it is bull laugh.gif

If the album does leak then they need to do a Rebel Heart (stick the pre-order up with a few songs available right away) Dancing + the Jack duet since they are both out there anyway.

that isn't for this project

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 15 2018, 03:07 PM

The promo posters that have been circling in France suggests we should be getting SOMETHING tomorrow.

I'd say we'll most likely have confirmation on single and album details and perhaps artwork too.

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 03:07 PM

She'll be buying a gold dress in a boutique before casually mentioning there's an album. [/promo]

Posted by: SmileyKylie Jan 15 2018, 04:52 PM

She has changed her picture on her twitter etc ..... she has been very quiet there also....... she is getting ready no doubt........

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 05:50 PM

WOW she changed her twitter photo. Meanwhile the single has leaked and the album runs the risk of doing the same and all she's done is mention the album title in a tweet and change her icon.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Jan 15 2018, 06:03 PM

She will not want to give exposure to the leaks etc.... the less people know about them the better. Then boom on Friday she will release, all impact on release week.

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 06:05 PM

She hasn't given any exposure to anything regarding the album bar one teet mentioning the title. It's all meant to be out in the next month or so and there is zero hype for it. No time to build pre-orders or excitement. At the moment the only people who know/care are some thirsty gays.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 15 2018, 06:08 PM

It is annoying how quiet things are on social media. I get that the leak has messed plans up a bit and they have to put measures in place to bring things forward, but social media should be a pretty easy tool to use to help combat the issues surrounding the leak. Hopefully we'll get something sufficient tomorrow.

I remember when Madonna's Rebel Heart album was first hit by major leaks and they revealed the album cover, as well as releasing a handful of songs as instant grats, which got people talking online and there was the novelty of inserting different faces onto the album cover. Obviously even more damaging leaks occurred after, but it helped bring about a positive aura for a while.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Jan 15 2018, 06:10 PM

She will be letting her fillers settle down before her appearances....... tongue.gif

Posted by: Regina Jan 15 2018, 06:12 PM

It takes little to no effort to announce something on twitter or Instagram. Hell even a video teaser like Justin Timberlake did. The album is clearly finished and they should have made plans for promo ages ago so that is something happens they can quickly change things.

You'd think she would learn by now. Half of the X album leaked months before it came out. Into The Blue leaked....yet the same thing happens and nothing.

A Lifetime to Repair BETTER be a massive emotional ballad. Or her Joeline.

Raining Glitter to be the gay anthem of our times. Athough it looks more like Raining Shitter in the pic. The poop anthem of our times?

Hearing news that Jack isn't on Music's Too Sad which BUMS ME OUT. Would be a bit cheao too since he helped write it and was so excited about having a song with her,

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 17 2018, 09:25 PM

I had heard that but I think it's all speculation at this point, based on him not being credited when the tracking list was officially released. I'd be surprised if she recorded just a solo version - from what it seems, it is more his song, plus their voices are going to go great together and it's a good opportunity if it ended up getting pushed by adult radio.

Posted by: Regina Jan 17 2018, 09:31 PM

I mean he doesn't have any solo bits so maybe it's not being credited as a duet? He seems ot just appear on the chorus. I hope he's still on it. It's the one I am most
looking forward to, and it wasn't on the movie soundtrack anyway.

Posted by: liamk97 Jan 17 2018, 09:36 PM

Yeah that may be it. I hope so anyway.

There’s even a hoedown feel to A Lifetime to Repair, while Raining Glitter is another more traditional Kylie moment (from the title up) for fans struggling with the slight diversion in direction.

Golden also includes a moody duet with up and coming British singer Jack Savoretti, Music’s Too Sad Without You that is the closest she’s come to her work with Nick Cave in years.

Pleased to hear confirmation that Jack is on 'Music's No Good Without You' and I like how it's compared to her and Nick Cave's duet. Also fab to hear that 'Raining Glitter' is going to be the camp moment we all deserve in our lives.

QUOTE
""Now that I've been to Nashville,” Kylie Minogue says with audible affection, “I understand. It's like some sort of musical ley-line...”

Golden, Kylie's fourteenth studio album, is the result of an intensive working trip to the home of Country music, a city whose influence lingered on long after the pop legend and her team returned to London to finish the record: “We definitely brought a bit of Nashville back with us,” she states.

The album is a vibrant hybrid, blending Kylie's familiar pop-dance sound with an unmistakeable Tennessee twang. It was Jamie Nelson, Kylie's long-serving A&R man, who first came up with the concept of incorporating “a Country element” into Kylie's tried-and-trusted style. That idea sat there for a little while, with Minogue and her team initially unsure about how to bring it to life. Then, when Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Wadge's publisher suggested Kylie should come over to collaborate in Nashville, a city Kylie had previously never visited, something clicked. “You know when you're so excited about something,” she recalls, “that you repeat it an octave higher and double the decibels? I was like that. 'Nashville?! Yes! Of course I would!'. I hoped it would help the album to reveal itself. I thought 'If I don't get it in Nashville, I'm not going to get it anywhere.""

Kylie's Nashville trip involved working alongside two key writers, both with homes in the city. One was British-born songwriter Steve McEwan (whose credits include huge Country hits for Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood), and the other was the aforementioned Amy Wadge, another Brit (best known for her mega-selling work with Ed Sheeran). It was then a truly international project: Golden was mainly created with African-German producer Sky Adams and a list of contributors including Jesse Frasure, Eg White, Jon Green, Biff Stannard, Samuel Dixon, Danny Shah and Lindsay Rimes, and there's a duet with English singer Jack Savoretti.

However, the album's agenda-setting lead single Dancing was, significantly, first demoed with Nathan Chapman, the man who guided Taylor Swift's transition from Country starlet to Pop megastar. If anyone knows how to mix those two genres, Chapman does. “Nathan was the only actual Nashvillean I worked with. He's got a huge studio in his house, which is probably due to his success with Taylor... there’s plenty of platinum discs of her, and others on his walls.”

There's something of the spirit of Peggy Lee's Is That All There Is?, of Dylan Thomas' Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, even of Liza Minnelli's Cabaret about Dancing, a song which not only opens the album but sets out its stall, providing a microcosm of what is to come. “You've got the lyrical edge, that Country feel, mixed with some sampling of the voice and electronic elements, so it does what it says on the label. And I love that it's called 'Dancing', it's immediately accessible and seemingly so obvious, but there’s depth within the song.”

The experience of simply being in Nashville was an overwhelming one, before Kylie had even arrived. “Once I knew I was going to Nashville, people talked about the place with such enthusiasm. They said without doubt I would love it and, I would come back with songs. They were sending lists of restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It really was a beautiful and genuine response and it felt like I was about to have a life changing experience and in a way, I did.”

It's probably no coincidence, therefore, that every track on Golden is a Kylie co-write, making it arguably her most personal album to date. “The end of 2016 was not a good time for me,” she says, referring to well-documented personal upheavals, “so when I started working on the album in 2017, it was, in many ways, a great escape. Making this album was a kind of saviour. I’d been through some turmoil and was quite fragile when I started work on it, but being able to express myself in the studio made quick work of regaining my sense of self. Writing about various aspects of my life, the highs and lows, with a real sense of knowing and of truth. And irony. And joy!”

The songwriting process allowed Kylie to get a few things out of her system. “Initially, she admits, “it was cathartic, but it also wasn't very good. I think I was writing too literally. But I reached a point where I was writing about the bigger-picture, and that was a breakthrough. It made way for songs like Stop Me From Falling and One Last Kiss. It also meant I had enough distance to write an autobiographical song, like A Lifetime To Repair, with a certain amount of humour. The countdown in that song: 'Six-five-four-three, too many times...'. I don't know if that will be a single, but I can just imagine a girl with framed pictures of past boyfriends, and kind of going 'Oh god, when am I going to get this right?'”

When she listens back to Golden, Kylie can vividly hear the Nashville in it. It is, she'll agree, probably the first time that a Kylie album has sounded like the place it was made. “You wouldn't normally relate my songs to the cities. Can't Get You Out Of My Head sounds more like Outer Space than London. But Shelby ’68, for example, was written in London but it was done with Nashville in mind. It's about my Dad's car, and my brother recorded Dad driving it! I don't think I'd have written a number of the songs, including Shelby ’68 and Radio On without having had that Nashville experience.”

The latter, she says, is “about music being the one to save you.” Throwing herself into the making of the record, she says, crystallised that idea. “If there's one love that will always be there for you, it's music. Well, it is for me, anyway.” That song, in particular, carries nostalgic echoes of the golden age of Country, as heard through Medium Wave transistors and tinny home stereos in the distant past. Like any child of the Seventies, Kylie had a basic grounding in Country music, mainly absorbed from older family members. “My Step-Grandfather was born in Kentucky and though he lived most of his adult life in Australia, he never stopped listening to his beloved Country artists.” If there's any classic Country singer whose imprint can be heard on Golden, it's Dolly Parton.

Kylie saw Dolly live for the first time at the end of 2016, at the Hollywood Bowl. “It was like seeing the light,” she beams. “It was incredible. Everyone, whether they know it or not, is a Dolly Parton fan. When I was in Nashville, I did pick up a T-shirt that said 'What Would Dolly Do?' Maybe that should be my mantra.” And, whether consciously or otherwise, there's a timbre and trill to Kylie's vocals on Radio On that is distinctly Parton-esque. “My delivery is quite different on this album,” she says. “A lot of things are 'sung' less. The first time I did that was with Where The Wild Roses Grow. On the day I met Nick Cave, when I recorded my vocals, he said 'Just sing it less. Talk it through, tell the story.' This album wasn't quite to that extreme, but a lot of the songs were done in fewer takes, to just capture the moment and keep imperfections that add to the song. I remember on my last album, a lot of producers were trying to take out literally every vibrato they heard. And that's not natural to my voice. I mean, I can make myself sound like a robot, but it's nice to sound like a human!”

Working within the Country genre also gave Kylie permission to write in the Nashville vernacular. “Because we were going there, I wasn't afraid to have lines like ‘When he’s fallen off the wagon we’d still dance to our favourite slow song', ‘Ten sheets to the wind, I was all confused’, ‘I’ll take the ride if it’s your rodeo’. The challenge of bringing a Country element to the album made the process feel very fresh to me, kind of like starting over. I started to look at writing a different way, singing a different way.”

Kylie Minogue will, it's scarcely believable, turn 50 this year. This looming milestone is partly behind the album's title, and title track. “I had this line that I wanted to use: 'We're not young, we're not old, we're golden' because I'm asked so often about being my age in this industry. This year, I'll be 50. And I get it, I get the interest, but I don't know how to answer it. And that line, for my personal satisfaction, says it as succinctly as possible. We can’t be anyone else, we can’t be younger or older than we are, we can only be ourselves. We're golden. And the album title, Golden, reflects all of this. I liked the idea of everyone being golden, shining in their own way. The sun shines in daylight, the moon shines in darkness. Wherever we are in life, we are still golden.”

One of the album's shiniest moments is Raining Glitter, an exuberant banger which ventures closest to Kylie's traditional dance-pop comfort zone. “Eg White, who is one of the producers and writers and a great character, was talking about disco one day. I said 'I love disco, but you know the brief.' We needed to be going down the Country lane, so to speak. But we managed to bring them both together. When I wrote it, I was thinking about the Jacksons video for Can You Feel It where they're sprinkling glitter over everyone. And I think there's a Donna Summer record that's got that feel to it. I think that's my job: I basically leave a trail of glitter after every show I do anyway.”

Kylie is looking forward to the challenge of incorporating the Golden material into her live shows. “Mixing these songs in with my existing catalogue is going to be fun. And it could be fun to do some of those songs with just a guitar. It'll make my acoustic set interesting...”

Her incredibly loyal fans – to whom one Golden song, Sincerely Yours, is intended as “a love letter” – will, she believes, have no problem with her latest stylistic shift. “My audience have been with me on the journey, so I shouldn't be afraid that they won't come with me on this part. I've had fun with it, and I'm sure they will too.”

The time spent making Golden has, Kylie says, been a time of creative and personal renewal. “I've met some amazing people, truly inspiring writers and musicians. My passion for music has never gone away, but it's got bigger and stronger.” And if there's an overriding theme to the record, it is one of acceptance. “We’re all human and it’s OK to make mistakes, get it wrong, to want to run, to want to belong, to love, to dream. To be ourselves.”

“I was able to both lose and find myself whilst making this album.”

This has me so excited. I am glad she is aware of how annoing her voice got to be in some KMO tracks and how she is working on that. Raining Glitter sounds GAY and I am ready for it.

Pre-order isn't doing too badly at all! She's 38 on Amazon, and the 10th pre-order on iTunes. She was really high on both after the SNT promo so I'd say she's built up some decent numbers, and her album release week promo will make sure she's sorted throughout the week. I think she should do about 20 - 35k in opening week.

I am going for 30k+

on a separate note..... Elton John is releasing the same week as Kylie! ..... other artists covering his songs......... does it count or is it on compilations chart?

I would have thought the two Elton albums would appear on the compilation chart considering it doesn't seem he'll feature on the tracks.

This is what I could find from the OCC about what qualifies for the album chart and compilation chart:

QUOTE
3. Compilation Album Chart Includes original soundtracks unless all tracks feature the same artist, multi orchestral recordings, and “1 artist per side” albums (if not new)
4. Artist Album Chart includes single artist compilations, original cast recordings, original cast performance soundtracks and single orchestra recordings

That’s strange because plenty of soundtracks have been on the official chart, Grease, The bodyguard, Saturday night fever, The sound of music, The greatest showman all massive #1 albums on the official chart...

Elton John’s should surely be a compilation in the likes of a Now album... although it is a compilation of songs by the same artist which is different from any other compilation I’ve known?

Elton John is her biggest rival, and she'll probably lose to Revamp at least

EDIT: those probably go to compilation chart?

Posted by: liamk97 Mar 28 2018, 10:27 AM

Yeah, his albums should appear on the compilation chart because they are credited as 'various artists'.

Posted by: pippa Mar 28 2018, 01:42 PM

I would be extremely surprised with Cardi B beat Kylie. Cardi B, i thought would at most be a top 10 contender.

The Elton John revamp could if allowed chart on the main chart, but it is likely to chart in the compilation chart. That said, with Kylie's pre-orders and multi format release mixed with the casual buyer she remains in a strong position to enter at number 1.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Mar 28 2018, 05:22 PM

Still really unsure how many Kylie will sell......

She has been on pre-order for ever..... but then never really been high in Amazon charts etc, HMV too though they have an exclusive vinyl.... it all depends how well those bundles have sold on her website........

Why do I feel the 30k estimate may be a bit high now?

I'd say she has remained consistently high on preorders tbh. Always seemed to be Top 10 on Amazons preorder chart and often been in their Top 40 overall sellers. Reckon she'll have had some really good preorders and with good release week promo, I don't think we need to worry too much about overestimating her. 30/40k seems perfectly doable.

But this is the UK it's her biggest market for 30 years and she is still promoting herself and her brand but not in record sales anymore.

She has the promo which will help. And the multiple formats could also help her push.

40k or above would be amazing sales but I don’t know whether this is being overtly optimistic. Most hard core fans will obviously have preordered but not sure she will sell that well among outside her core fan base. The jury is still out but I hope I’m wrong.

sales on Amazon of Golden are rising in the charts. Every little counts.

Media coverage building. In quite a few papers today. Metro, I, Evening Standard etc

Posted by: adancing Apr 3 2018, 12:36 PM

Midweeks
The Greatest Showman' has so far sold 24k in the album chart (sales up 27% so far) & George is currently no2 on 17k.

So her competition will be TGS, who would have thought an OST album to last this long and still chart this high after months...

Anyway this week there was a rise for TGS because of the Vinyl release I guess, plus the Bank holidays in the UK, but still it will be close race next week with Golden.

Posted by: pippa Apr 3 2018, 12:37 PM

Not long to wait now.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 3 2018, 12:47 PM

The streaming of TGS is getting 14k of sales....... that's going to hurt Kylie... I hope she can get 1-2k of sales through streaming in week one momentum.

so Kylie has a standard vinyl, a deluxe vinyl and a picture disc vinyl . that should get good sales.... if she has sold 4k of cassettes probably 2k in UK then all these formats must have sold the same or even more so she should have healthy pre-orders to be honest.

kylie has the promo

-Love is the LGBT love song
-Every Little Part of Me, Rollin’ and Live a Little follow the Dancing formula
-Lost Without You is uptempo and the least country song on the album

I guess it make sense why the four bonus tracks aren't on the main tracking list. Can't wait to hear 'Love'!

doesn't seem 2 minutes since we were searching around for snippets of Dancing in mid January

I think the high profile TV performance exposure might have had something to do with it.

I have never pre-ordered from a store ever, this is my first time and first time getting a bundle, I just hope it comes on release day or before as I'm away after... Although that would mean buying a copy while away haha

Most stores are good for coming on release day. Sometimes you can get lucky and have it on the Thursday.
I got mine from Amazon and guaranteed a Friday delivery.

Leaky leak by the looks of it.

Lost Without You getting If Only comparisons omg.

Wouldn't surprise me...... Wasn't t their 10th anniversary this week? Would only be downloads and streaming though no? But still they are both huge in those markets

Kylie on the One Show on Monday.

She has really been so unlucky with chart positions throughout her career with her endless nbr 2s... Such a shame if this haopens.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 5 2018, 07:34 PM

I think The Greatest Showman is the only real threat.

Posted by: Regina Apr 5 2018, 07:43 PM

The fact that 30 years into her career she can even challenge (if only slightly) a #1 spot is amazing. Anything top 5 would be a good result for her

After 1 quick listen my favs so far are

Stop Me From Falling
Lost Without You
Golden
Radio On
Lifetime To Repair (this is number 3 on the Spotify New Music Friday list)

I know iTunes doesn't mean much these days but the pre-orders where obviously good and its a good start for her.

will probably all drop out in next few days but as we know physicals will sell well

Good UK promo coming up from tonight

"Kylie is going to be a defining moment for this label": BMG's Alistair Norbury on Kylie's big comeback
by MusicWeek Staff | April 6th 2018 at 6:00AM

Today (April 6), Kylie Minogue releases her brand new album Golden, her first record in four years, and first for BMG. The album was first unveiled back in January with comeback single Dancing and Kylie has since performed special sets across Europe – including an intimate gig at Café De Paris in London.

Every song on Golden is co-written by Minogue, and also includes writing collaborations with Steve McEwan and Amy Wadge.

BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch already used a recent Music Week cover story to stress the importance of the release - plus the upcoming album from A Perfect Circle - to the company. Here BMG’s president, repertoire & marketing, Alistair Norbury - who replaced Alexi Cory-Smith, who left in December - gives us his thoughts on what is at stake with Kylie’s 14th album…

The Kylie album is a big test for the new BMG, isn’t it?

“Kylie is a fabulous example and is going to be a defining moment for this label. The A&R job that’s been done by Jamie Nelson with Kylie on this record is absolutely fantastic. Kylie coming to BMG was a big signal from us. We have taken our time and I feel proud that we’ve given her the space to make the record she wanted to make. We were going to put this record out last year but Jamie and Kylie decided that the record could be better. Bertelsmann as a business has a long-term view and we’re very fortunate that we’re not subject to Q4 demands. So a record that was going to come out in October last year and would have been a healthy contributor to our 2017 numbers, we decided to do more work on the record. Jamie and Kylie worked incredibly hard to spend a lot of time in Nashville working, amongst others, with BMG writers to deliver a greater record than the one we would have released. So we sit here now working with an artist who’s absolutely seen it all and has a clear vision and a creative direction, is involved with all the marketing decisions with Alli [Main] and Polly [Bhowmik], her managers. She is in this building [regularly], attends meetings and is very connected with the team here. So all eyes are on us.

"We believe this is going to be the biggest ship of a BMG record in the UK that we’ve ever had. We anticipate that it will be the biggest-selling week one record we’ve ever had on BMG UK. What is very exciting is there are four to five radio records on the album, the campaign will run for 18 months, there is a lot of excitement all around the world, there’s a very good US plan which is very exciting. Everything about this project to date has been absolutely top quality from the record to the video, the artwork and the team are doing an absolutely brilliant job in partnership with our colleagues at ADA. Retail reaction is terrific, support from media is very heartening and we’re in a very good position.”

Why did she choose BMG?

"She chose to come to BMG for a variety of reasons. It would be remiss not to say Jamie Nelson was a big factor. There are benefits of having A&Rs such as Jamie, Thomas Haimovici and Korda Marshall; people who’ve had many hit records working in a business that’s focused on established talent is a great conduit to artists. Our A&R meetings are absolutely fantastic because we’re talking to artists of this level and this team has made these records before and can make them again. She liked the BMG deal model, it’s very attractive. The young small dynamic team here and the people she met in continental Europe were very important. And she was maybe influenced by the very first meetings which were during the great success of Rick Astley. Seeing that we’d sold 300,000 Rick Astley albums was a significant marker that we’d taken an artist who’d been away for a few years and put them back where they should be. The fact we’d proven it very successfully was important.

"She took her time and I liked the fact that she was willing to make the move. I’d also say our historical relationship with Michael Gudinksi in Australia was very important, he’s a big fan of BMG and Korda and was very happy to support her decision and he’s our partner for this record in Australia. And we have the PWL and Deconstruction catalogue and she likes the way we look after those records and how we can plan the next phase of her career both as a frontline, current artist and treat the catalogue simultaneously with the same care and attention. That’s very important for an artist to feel those two key parts of their career are being looked after. The relationship is absolutely fantastic and very much driven by Jamie’s historic relationship."

Has the game changed for Kylie? We think of her as a singles artist but Dancing hasn’t cracked the Top 40 yet… Does that matter?

“Interestingly, Dancing has beaten the chart position of her last records so, even in a changing climate and in a world where streaming is becoming more important, she’s done better than on the last record. So we’re not worried about that particular metric. We would love it to be higher and we’ll continue to work to get it higher. The streaming is actually going very well. The last few campaigns she’s had, she hasn’t got on Heart and now we’re added to the playlist. We’ve got that huge Radio 2 support but having more commercial radio support is going to be a big factor. And she’s an albums artist. This record is an album, it has been made as an album. The most important thing for her is that it’s treated thus and she’s very involved in the campaign and the daily updates. I still think this can be a very significant big album.

"For us it’s important because a lot of these artists still sell substantial physical numbers. Rick Astley was 95% physical. And when you’re playing different formats and doing deluxe editions and vinyl and cassette, it’s a significant revenue stream. The support the team have procured from both Spotify and Apple for her is huge. [Initially, this was] driven by D2C and a pre-awareness campaign. The next phase of the set up involves huge support from Apple and Spotify, who definitely see her as a significant artist. They’ve heard the record and they know what’s coming. If we review this in six months’ time we may find that the singles streaming is very successful.”

Lost Without You is wonderful a huge standout on a very strong album, great album on first listen.

This is such a huge improvement on Kiss Me Once.

Posted by: Regina Apr 6 2018, 06:12 PM

LWY is like the natural continuation of If Only, which was the highlight of KMO.

The leap in quality, not only lyriclly but production wise from KMO is staggering. A lot fo people might not like it, but I love the slight imperfections in the mastering, it gives it a raw Nashville vibe and is almost like it was recorded live, kind like Jewel did with some of her album. The production lends itself to the tone and lyrics of the album and it allowd her emotion to shine through.
KMO suffered from overproduction, any hint of life and imperfection was removed and it resulted in a fairly flat, non descript album.

Posted by: pippa Apr 6 2018, 06:47 PM

KMO came to me as rushed and cheap it lacked substance and in many ways Kylie seemed lost on that album.

Golden, feels like she has found herself again and the album has a feel of perfection to it.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 6 2018, 06:51 PM

I think the good thing is also that this album songs seen they can all be remixed to differing style and released as singles which can increase the longevity. A la gente de zona

Posted by: Regina Apr 6 2018, 06:54 PM

Remixing the GOlen tracks will make them lose their quality and sincerity. As seen with Dancing, only the Initial Talk one works

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 6 2018, 08:21 PM

'Sincrely Yours' was a big standout on first listen.

Also I was absolutely convinced 'Radio On' would be an uptempo based on its title.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 6 2018, 08:51 PM

I am currently living the chorus of Live A Little. It comes from nowhere. Amazing

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 6 2018, 08:56 PM

On first listen, it's great! It's nice to hear something different from her like this. It's not packed with obvious standout singles, but it flows organically as a thematic body of work.

You get the sense she's got a newfound freedom and positive outlook on life, and she's embracing that.

Sales picking up on Amazon. Digital now 4, Cds 5 and 9

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 7 2018, 09:34 AM

The Evening Standard's review is shocking. They seem to think 'Radio On' would have been a better comeback than 'Dancing'. laugh.gif

Idiots.

Posted by: Regina Apr 7 2018, 09:56 AM

Parts of the album giveme 1989 vies and I am totally digging it. And some of it sounds like what I wanted Shania's last album to be like

The only one I am not totally loving is Live A Little, she is a bit drowned out in the chorus.

One Last Kiss, Lost Without You, Music's Too Sad and Low Blow are my highlights. Low Blow is so quirky and crazy, it's like a Hoedown Nu-di-ty and I adore it.

One Last Kiss has such a gorgeous chorus and I can listen over and over.

Dancing and Raining Glitter actually rank in the lower ends of the album for me, RG especially kinda falls flat a but for me in th context of the album as a whole.
SMFF really stands up against the other songs and I feel like it (or Lost Without You or OLK) should have been the lead.

Posted by: slowdown73 Apr 7 2018, 10:56 AM

I love the new album. It’s a massive turn around from Kiss me once. Highlights include Golden, Stop me from falling, Sincerely yours, raining glitter and A lifetime to repair. Her vocals sound much better on this album and the overall sound & production is far more authentic to who Kylie is as an artist. This album feels like the start of an exciting new journey and reminds me of my excitement when her career turned around upon the release of Light Years, which incidentally is probably my joint favourite Parllophone era album. I also think it will perform better than I first anticipated. It’s no1 on iTunes, performing well on streaming and has some great reviews.

I'll post my full thoughts later but I'm in love with this album. I didn't hate Kiss Me Once but this is undoubtedly a return to form.

Listen to Kylie on the Dermot O'Leary Saturday Breakfast Show https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09x8286.

Posted by: blacksquare Apr 7 2018, 03:17 PM

I wish I loved this. I'm glad she's in a positive place etc but the production is disappointingly cheap and flat. There are too many songs that sound the same, follow the same structure, produced almost identically. The guitars end up pretty much just being a gimmick.

The more subtle moments are the best, Lost Without You especially.

Really liking this album on first few listens and it's a massive massive improvement on kiss me once.

The album is very together with direction and style. Yours sincerely was the most instant for me but sometimes the most instant songs waiver quickly but il have to wait and see. Musics too sad is great too, there is nothing I hate at the moment from the album,

I'm relieved that I like the album as I havnt really enjoyed her last 2 albums kmo and Christmas but this I do like and it's not just one of those cds thats in my collection because it's Kylie, it's there because I like it.

Am talking all volumes with a pinch of salt at moment lol.

If it has those then I will continue to stream and buy my copies in week two.

I would not worry about short term she still has loads of promo yet and her 50th in May so loads more promo to come for that! 😃

Posted by: davidas Apr 8 2018, 04:48 PM

Yay amazing sales so far! I’m super chuffed for Kylie. Ultimately it would amazing if Golden went gold. 100,000 copies is totally achievable right???

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 8 2018, 05:14 PM

100,000 is what I'm hoping for at minimum or ideally outsell both kiss me once and Kylie Christmas and become her best selling album since Aphrodite.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 8 2018, 05:16 PM

I think that's easily possible!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 8 2018, 05:17 PM

The fact she has further promo lined up will help the album outside release week.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 8 2018, 05:29 PM

On first listen and my opinion never changed kiss me once was disappointing. Golden is the complete oppposite.
Out of interest is anyone disappointed with Golden?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 8 2018, 05:46 PM

I have seen some comments from fans on social media who probably just wanted more of the same as she usually does.

Posted by: Regina Apr 8 2018, 05:54 PM

Some gays just freak out at the mere mention or sound of a guitar in a pop song.

A Lifetime To Repair (!!) at #123 on Spotify Friday. No other Golden tracks in the Top 200.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 8 2018, 07:15 PM

When you think though 100 to 200 on Spotify is only a difference in sales terms of about 180 sales and many of those will be on the 300:1 ratio and have no actual sales attached. So at least Kylie is getting a mixture.

Nice to see Golden being streamed 5th on Apple Music and 3rd on Amazon streaming

31k in two days is more than most people were expecting. I think we can now expect first week sales of +40k (similar to Light Years). This is certainly a success in terms of the current music climate which is increasing seeing diminishing returns on artist albums when this has already outsold KMO’s first week sales.

Posted by: gooddelta Apr 8 2018, 07:36 PM

This is a really excellent album, a huge step up from Kiss Me Once in every way possible.

So cohesive and well thought out, I love the production and the melodies are huge. Dancing, Stop Me From Falling and Raining Glitter are all better than anything she's put out since Aphrodite for me. And there are so many other fantastic album highlights too - Lost Without You and Music's Too Sad Without You are my early highlights.

Only Every Little Part Of Me sticks out like a sore thumb for me. I don't dislike it by any means, but it's as if it was meant to be an "Any producer of generic Spotify filler feat Kylie" single and got lost somewhere in the process and ended up on Golden by mistake.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 8 2018, 07:44 PM

My favourite tune today from nowhere after the first listen is............ LOVE

Golden currently 2nd on Itunes worldwide chart and 14th in Apple Music streaming worldwide up 12 places.

Yes? There's no way she won't be #1

The One Show gets 4 million viewers and she is on at 7pm tonight. Not sure she is singing but if not the videos will be played etc

Then 11.30pm G Norton repeated.

We could see SMFF and Dancing both well inside the ITunes top 20 and Golden back at number 1 in iTunes Albums.

Can she get 40,000 sales in week one? would be great if she could.

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 9 2018, 11:39 AM

The One Show's BBC page confirm Kylie is performing:

QUOTE
Alex Jones and Amol Rajan are joined by Kylie Minogue to talk about her new album Golden. Kylie also performs Stop Me From Falling live at the end of the show.

Posted by: Joe. Apr 9 2018, 11:53 AM

Awh I wish she was doing Dancing. I Get that Stop Me From Falling is the current single, but Dancing has a real shot of going top 40 this week.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 9 2018, 12:01 PM

Her official store added 1,000 signed Golden cassettes, but they've already sold out! Unsigned versions are still available though. The standard CD is now on the store too, and a new t-shirt.

Fantastic sales for the album so far, go Kylie!

I think that'll still help 'Dancing', like her Graham Norton performance of SMFF seems to have done.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 9 2018, 12:13 PM

Yep people go to buy SMFF and see Dancing at 59p and buy it too........ clever! and both in charts next to each other!

The One Show gets anything from 3-5 million viewers it is good promo

plus G Norton repeated tonight

Is Graham Norotn repeated tonight? I don't ever remember anyone mentioning it unsure.gif

One of my fave moments on the album rn is the way she growls like a dragon after the Dragon line in Lifetime to Repair laugh.gif it's adorable.

Posted by: pippa Apr 9 2018, 03:30 PM

33.7 sales so far and sitting at the top of the charts.

With promotion coming, I would assume she can sell a further 10,000 copies through the week and manage even a small number of streams.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 9 2018, 03:46 PM

G Norton repeated at 11.30pm tonight.

they must have done another run of 4,000 cassettes..... and just in case they thought they may not sell them they did 1,000 signed to make sure they did. Clever smile.gif

In a news article on the midweeks OCC comfirm she will be nbr 1 come friday 😍

Posted by: pippa Apr 9 2018, 05:54 PM

The breakdown of the sales doesnt mention cassette sales.

Her digital sales are much higher than i thought they would be.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 9 2018, 06:23 PM

She roughly done another 2700 sales yday, if she can do 2000 a day for week she would end up on almost 42,000.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 9 2018, 06:24 PM

She got the cassette promo in, dancing promo in, tour promo, Golden promo, and singing stop me from falling. Good girl. Very good promo. Looks great on One Show too!

Posted by: SmileyKylie Apr 10 2018, 12:55 PM

Yes. Lets hope she clears 45k!

I still haven't bought. I will wait for week 2 now and help it! Doubt she will stay top 10 in second week but will get some media coverage if it gets number 1 this week.

Lots of new releases.

Next week promo is Lorraine on 16th. Maybe BBC breakfast also?

3rd week promo is good: Queens birthday performance, Feels like Friday performance , Gente de Zona remix and video for Stop Me From Falling etc.....

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 10 2018, 01:05 PM

Can't see her falling out of the Top 10. I don't think there's much competition from new releases tbh and it takes like 5k to be Top 10 nowadays. Could see her falling behind TGS and George Ezra but still above 10k, plus BMG seem committed to a proper album campaign so I'd like to think she has a good chance at achieving decent longevity.

Posted by: Joe. Apr 10 2018, 01:29 PM

I think she'll get two performances on Sounds Like Friday as she's co-hosting it?

What's going on with BBC Breakfast has anyone heard? I was told she was on this morning but I heard nothing about it?

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 10 2018, 01:36 PM

Ooh that would be good! No doubt it would be the two singles, but I'd like to see a televised performance of an album track tbh. Not that it would probably happen on that show.

A bit more sales info thanks to Stewie from sayhey

'Golden' sold 3,676 copies yesterday to bring her total to 37,413.
21k on CD, 7813 on digital, 901 on streaming,1625 on cassette and 5755 on vinyl.
'Greatest Showman' sold 7,010 copies yesterday. Total weekly is 18,749 (5258 sales are via streaming)
'Staying at Tamara's sold 3,630 copies yesterday. 12,339 in total.
'Now 99' sold 4146 yesterday and 21k in total.

So Kylie like I predicted will finish number one with 40k plus for sure (around 43 to 45k)
Greatest showman may reach 37k to 40k if it continues selling around 7k per day come friday.

Are you sure Greatest Showman sold all 7,000 copies yesterday alone and wasn’t just streaming being added on that was missing from over the weekend? That just seems like quite the increase

LP: 6,036

Golden has debuted at #64 in Japan, lower than the #40 peak of Kiss Me Once but much higher than the #171 peak of Kylie Christmas.

I think with the promo still lined up in Germany, tomorrow Echo awards performance and Let's Dance performance in the weekend, she might get her second number one album in Germany and debut at number one in the UK, Australia and Germany...
But are German Charts compiled friday or sunday, if sunday she might really stand a chance of grabbing that number one there....

Recap of Kylie's first week sales:

49,000 Light Years (#2)
139,075 Fever (#1)
68,866 Body Language (#6)
82,822 Ultimate Kylie (#4)
82,370 X (#4)
79,152 Aphrodite (#1)
37,556 The Abbey Road Sessions (#2)
29,251 Kiss Me Once (#2)
15,881 Kylie Christmas (#12)

Golden is on track to increase 50% on the sales for Kiss Me Once, which itself was down 63% on the sales of Aphrodite.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 12 2018, 01:26 AM

Considering the climate change golden has done well when compared to light years it will only be snot 6-7 k short of light years opening sales.

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 12 2018, 01:45 AM

I think it's only going to be a couple of thousand off the first week sales of Light Years tbh!

Even though its total sales of half a million are good, I have to say the initial performance of Light Years doesn't seem that impressive considering how big her 2000 comeback seems. 49k would have been pretty average back then and it slipped down the charts quite fast - in a very similar fashion to Kiss Me Once, in fact:

Light Years: 2-7-14-19-28-38...

Kiss Me Once: 2-8-13-17-38...

Fever really helped the album bulk up its sales, going from 225k at the end of 2000 to over 400k by the end of 2002.

Some sort of glitch that's been there since the beginning which they haven't managed to sort out, and it means they're unable to count the data for that day, so they average it over what it's been for everything throughout the week.

Posted by: Joe. Apr 12 2018, 09:31 AM

Yeah, streaming will be unweighted from the rest of the week. Which means any slight boost in stream sales from today will be lost in an abyss.

Kylie's album total sales since 2000:

0,495,000 Light Years
1,715,000 Fever
0,415,000 Body Language
0,475,000 X
0,330,000 Aphrodite
0,080,000 Kiss Me Once
0,140,000 Kylie Christmas

Those are just my estimates rounded to the nearest 5k (you can see the last known sales for them http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=130697). Would be nice to get some updated totals although, as you can tell from my estimates, I don't think her studio albums are strong trickle sellers. Her compilations, however, would be good to see updates for. Her 2012 Best Of, for instance, passed Silver well over 2 years ago.

Posted by: SKOB Apr 12 2018, 01:45 PM

Thanks for the numbers! I thought LY, BL and X would've sold a bit more but like you said, their sales probably tumbled down the second the album campaign stopped and she moved onto the next era.

Posted by: Regina Apr 12 2018, 03:15 PM

It's interesting to see how generally consistant she is with sales. Also a but gutting to se ehow much more potential Aphrodite had, 330K with essentially one single.
Leaving GOMW till September was just bizarre.
