'Despacito' Tops Hot 100 for 13th Week, Sets New No. 1 Record on Digital Song Sales Chart
8/7/2017 by Trevor Anderson Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, now owns the longest reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017, clocking a lucky 13th consecutive week at No. 1 on the chart dated Aug. 19. The stretch surpasses the 12-week rule of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" in January through April. "Despacito" also sets a second longevity mark this week, becoming the first song to record 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. With its latest frame, "Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records), becomes one of just 11 songs to have topped the Hot 100 for at least 13 weeks, dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception. No song has led longer since Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, dominated for 14 weeks in 2015. That track and six others are second only to Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day,” which spent an unprecedented 16 weeks atop the chart in 1995-96. Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1 16, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995 14, "Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 17, 2015 14, "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas, July 11, 2009 14, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey, June 4, 2005 14, "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, Oct. 11, 1997 14, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio, Aug. 3, 1996 14, "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men, Aug. 27, 1994 14, "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston, Nov. 28, 1992 13 (to date), "Despacito," Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017 13, "The Boy Is Mine," Brandy & Monica, June 6, 1998 13, "End of the Road," Boyz II Men, Aug. 15, 1992 While “Despacito” is three weeks from equaling the all-time mark of “One Sweet Day,” it also moves within one week of tying the record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a primarily non-English language song. As noted above, Los Del Rio's "Macarena” controlled the chart for 14 weeks in 1996 thanks to the popularity of its Bayside Boys remix. As "Despacito" continues to dominate, the song rewrites the No. 1 record on the Digital Song Sales chart with a 14th week atop the list since the chart’s arrival on Oct. 30, 2004. The song sells 84,000 downloads (down 17 percent) in the week ending August 3, according to Nielsen Music. The 14th frame atop Digital Song Sales eclipses the previous chart record of 13 shared by three songs: Flo Rida’s “Low” feat. T-Pain (2007-2008), “Uptown Funk!” (2015) and The Chainsmokers’ “Closer,” featuring Halsey (2016). On the Streaming Songs chart, "Despacito" leads for a 13th week, with 49.8 million U.S. streams (down 6 percent) in the week ending August 3. The track again tops all three of the Hot 100's main component charts, as it leads the all-format Radio Songs chart for a fifth week with 141 million in all-format airplay audience (down 1 percent) in the week ending August 6. The “Despacito” triple crown of No. 1 ranks on Radio Songs, Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs for a fifth week in a row is the longest consecutive stretch since “Closer” topped each list for six straight frames in October – November last year. "Despacito" also captures a 27th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart and extends its reign on the Songs of the Summer survey to 10 weeks, having led the latter list each week since its annual return just after Memorial Day. DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts," featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, keeps at its No. 2 Hot 100 perch. It remains at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (34.8 million, down 1 percent); ascends 3-2 on Radio Songs (128 million, up 9 percent); and slides 8-9 on Digital Song Sales (34,000, down 5 percent). "Thoughts" crowns the Hot R&B Songs chart for a fifth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fourth frame. French Montana’s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, steps 6-3 to a new Hot 100 high. The song surges 21-8 on Digital Song Sales (37,000, up 52 percent), while holding at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (27.7 million streams, up 3 percent) and powering 15-11 on Radio Songs (81 million, up 9 percent.) “Unforgettable” also struts to No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, becoming the first leader on the list for both Montana and Swae Lee as a soloist. Back on the Hot 100, Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like” retreats 3-4 after having previously reached No. 1 on the May 13-dated chart. Imagine Dragons' "Believer" rounds out the top five, while ruling the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 22nd week. DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One,” featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, dips 4-6, after having debuted at No. 1 on the May 20-dated chart. Charlie Puth’s “Attention” lifts 9-7 to a new peak, and becomes the singer-songwriter’s highest-charting Hot 100 hit as a lead artist, passing the No. 9 high of “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” featuring Selena Gomez, last October. (Puth featured on Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” a 12-week No. 1 hit in 2015.) Shawn Mendes' "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" maintains its No. 8 peak, while Sheeran’s “Shape” declines 7-9. Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road" is steady at No. 10 after reaching No. 6 in April. “Back Road” extends its historic run on the Hot Country Songs chart with a record 26th week at the summit, further outpacing the previous 24-week milestone of Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” (2013-14). Beyond the Hot 100's top 10, Cardi B’s breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” zooms into the top 20 with a 28-14 leap and scores the chart's Streaming Gainer award. Two more newcomers also celebrate career landmarks by reaching the Hot 100’s top 40 for the first time: Portugal, The Man, whose “Feel It Still” soars 55-34 and SZA with “Love Galore,” featuring Travis Scott, which climbs 46-37. Directly beneath the pair, Future claims the week’s highest debut on the Hot 100 with “You Da Baddest,” featuring Nicki Minaj, a No. 38 arrival. |

Does anyone know the total chart points of Despacito versus the #2? I don't really see anything challenging it for #1 in the next few weeks...

Dua Lipa debuted just based on Spotify...she needs radio and itunes support and hopefully she will get top 20 hit She's not miles off on iTunes (#113 right now) so she just needs airplay really and then sales will come naturally. I think this should happen fairly easily when it goes for adds. |
