BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ WHO THE F**K IS AGGRO SANTOS??

Posted by: Jamesus Jan 17 2015, 05:44 PM

Don't you just hate it when you feel some songs should be massive but get paid dust?! I thought I'd discuss some of the biggest flops in history as no one will ever start about a thread for them .. #getthatpromo #yaaasesmeedenters

Here's some of my favourite songs that flopped harder as Britney Jean dry.gif

Mini Viva - One Touch
pop perfection, i jam out every time cheer.gif yahoo.gif

Eva Simons - Silly Boy
remember when people thought this was Gaga feat. Rihanna blink.gif

Daisy Dares You - Rosie
WHAT HAPPENED TO DAISY DARES YOU?! ohmy.gif cry.gif

Posted by: mr_aly Jan 17 2015, 05:55 PM

I love that Mini Viva song! That for me was definitely their best moment, but they were toast at that point and it never stood a chance. cry.gif It still bothers me that we never got an album.

I'll put my thinking cap on and contribute some to this thread!

*edit - double post.

Girls Can't Catch - Keep Your Head Up & Echo obviously sad.gif

One Touch heart.gif

(sadly for the other 2; Silly Boy was a much-deserved flop and Daisy Dares You was no real loss either teresa.gif )

^ I remember this xenomania-produced track getting a slight radio push a few years back. Pretty good actually, but sadly missed the top 40, then Alex put out a shit follow-up and that was that

Omg Candy wub.gif What a tune. Silly Boy is something else though, it really should have been as huge as people predicted.

Love all of Mini Viva's output too, was gutted when they split without releasing the album! The sampler was great, there was a brilliant song called Bedroom Viber but Left My Heart In Tokyo remains by far their best. I remember that I'm Not Mad song too, was great at the time.

Echo is ok but nothing special but keep your head up is a pop gem, I still adore that song wub.gif

Posted by: mr_aly Jan 17 2015, 08:10 PM

I have to mention this, a true pop masterpiece which deserves to at least be known by everybody.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 17 2015, 10:41 PM

Keisha White's whole career! sad.gif I really thought 'Don't Care Who Knows' and 'The Weakness In Me' would be bigger smashes than they were. The latter I could see being one of those random, ballad hits right now tbh. Then we have the very radio friendly 'Don't Mistake Me' <3

SO GOOD.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jan 17 2015, 10:43 PM

Now if she were to be a one-hit wonder with any song, I'm glad it was Alone Again as that's my favourite of hers, but this is pop at its absolute best with a great video to boot.

I think Aggro makes the song, or at least they both do, I didn't even know her name.

He had some other songs I liked but their names can't reach me right now.

OH YES! I forgot about that! LOL. Yes it is her.

I love this thread and I have a couple of my own

Never released in the UK, only in Canada and bombed hard at #74 over there, such a shame coz it's such a catchy and addictive track, if Girls Aloud brought this out in their heyday, then would have probably smashed.

Again never released in the UK, instead they opted for "Over" which flopped at #27, dunno why they didn't just go for this instead, it did pretty well in several countries worldwide and would have definitely done better over here than Over.

Definitely one of her best and such an underrated artist, this only peaked at #59 and should have smashed.

Now this is a great fun upbeat pop song, which became a victim of the low sales era of 2004 and plus pop music was pretty much dying out then, but this deserved better than #29 peak.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 18 2015, 02:23 PM

YES at Girlicious! wub.gif Such a great track and also love a bit of POP! 'Heaven & Earth' was wonderful and 'Serious' didn't deserve to do as badly as it did. sad.gif I also liked what I heard from Lindsay too, iirc. I know I've heard 'Over' but I'm sure I've heard more and thought she should have released some other stuff too.

Pairs Hilton - Nothing In the World, really should have been a massive Top 10 single, if not a number 1! It's absolutely brilliant and as pop as you can get!

Should have smashed (and in a non-ironic way!)

Posted by: mr_aly Jan 18 2015, 02:36 PM

'Nothing In This World' should have been given to Rachel Stevens in an attempt to rectify her career immediately in the wake of CAGI.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 02:43 PM

Nothing In The World is incredible! It would have easily smashed for Kelly Clarkson or someone like that sad.gif

The only songs listed here I know/remember are:

Keisha White - The Weakness In Me (which I would hardly describe as an "irrelevent" song...)
Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend (I remember hearing this a few times on Radio 1)

The name Alex Gardner rings a bell too, but that's probably just from people mentioning him on Buzzjack.

shocking this never even went top 10 ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 18 2015, 03:47 PM

YES! A true pop anthem. It's one of those people wouldn't really list as "one of their favourites" until they'd hear it. It just needs to be used in a US comedy or something and have a 'A Thousand Miles' used in 'White Chicks' moment!

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 03:49 PM

More To Life and Stuck are both perfect wub.gif Obviously the latter did scrape top 10 but both should have been huge.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 03:54 PM

Oh, also this...

It peaked at like 82 or something sad.gif Such a tune, I love the 80s New Wave-y vibe it has <3

Posted by: Cameron Jan 18 2015, 03:59 PM

I know she doesn't have many fans on here, but Obsession is one of those songs that are just so cheesy and catchy. I love it laugh.gif

I am sad Charlie never took off either. I adore all 3 of his singles sad.gif

So There really deserved to be massive sad.gif Alexa has a fantastic voice

Absolutely second this wub.gif Glorious use of a sample.

Trying to think of some that haven't already been mentioned...

- Esmee Denters - Admit It
- Orianthi - According to You (big in America, flopped here! I got the physical of it. :lol)

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 04:53 PM

According To You wub.gif I remember waiting for that to be big after it smashed in America but it just never came.

I actuallt have a Spotify playlist calld Lost & Forgotten laugh.gif A lot of them are actual hits I just forgot about and haven't listened to but end up rediscovering so don't fit here but a few that do are:

Tiffany Page - On Your Head (lovely KT Tunstall esque track but peaked at something stupid like #98)

Emily Osment - Lovesick (was a minor top 75 hit I think after ITV2 used it on an advert)

Livvi Franc - Now I'm That Bitch (I think this scraped in at #40, even with Pitbull on!)

Christian TV - When She Turns 18 (I don't think this ever properly charted anywhere, maybe on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart or something stupid)

Trey Songz ft. Nicki Minaj - Bottoms Up (one of her best verses <3)

Shontelle - Perfect Nightmare (not as amazing as Impossible, but should have been a second hit from the era!)

Wonderland - Not A Love Song (quite MOR/Radio 2 for a girl group but it's lovely!)

Skylar Grey - invisible (I think this went top 75, I hoped/thought it would be big though sad.gif)

Lindsay Lohan - Over (given she was a big actress, it could/should have done better than #28 or whatever)

Nina Sky - Move Ya Body (such a jam, I loved it at the time!)

Yeah, it's really good! However, the follow-up is even better IMO. wub.gif

Pretty much a template of how a pop/R&B ballad should be done.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 05:00 PM

Oh and both Jodie Connor singles <3 Now Or Never got top 20 I think but Bring It scraped in at #38 or something sad.gif

Posted by: Jade Jan 18 2015, 05:10 PM

Ooh Liam I adore 'Lovesick'! I think that was for the TOWIE advert, followed by Kylie's 'Timebomb'! Great choices! Anyway, I remember 'Lovesick' hovering around the lower regions of the top 40 on iTunes but never made it officially. sad.gif

Oh and Wonderland! I saw them as a support act for Olly Murs in 2011! They did a superb rendition of 'Rolling In The Deep' and there was one really good vocalist in the band. I always found 'Not a Love Song' a bit too long-winded in the chorus though. All of their singles flopped yet they somehow managed a top 10 album! laugh.gif

Posted by: Jamesus Jan 18 2015, 05:35 PM

I forgot to add this gem that should have been HUGE

Neon Hitch - f*** U Betta

Posted by: JosephJamil Jan 18 2015, 05:42 PM

Oh yes Wonderland heart.gif Was a big fan of them, their album was very pleasant. Not hard to see why they didn't take off though.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2015, 05:44 PM

I LOVE that Neon Hitch song, again should have been massive <3 I never really expected it to though, I loved Get Over U as well but she was clearly one of those who is theoretically a good popstar but just never made it and probably never will.

See: Natalia Kills. Her entire output fits this thread too laugh.gif Perfectionist was, funnily enough, perfection and Trouble was great too. I especially love Saturday Night, Break Ya Hard, Zombie, Mirrors and Wonderland.

Pretty much a template of how a pop/R&B ballad should be done.

Fully agree with these! Invisible and Over are huge faves of mine (also I agree with Saturday Night by Natalia Kills)

I'll add "Fly" by Hilary Duff, easily her best for me wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: JosephJamil Jan 18 2015, 05:58 PM

Fly yessss wub.gif ADORE that. Also love Beware of the Dog, my favourite Jamelia track (and she has several great pop songs)

Posted by: Jade Jan 18 2015, 05:59 PM

Liam I had a feeling you'd bring up Natalia! laugh.gif

She first came to my attention through 'Mirrors' and her feature on 'Champagne Showers'. LOVE her, thought she was very Gaga from 'Mirrors' who was still a huge force at the time so I thought she'd easily be able to smash. Bizzare that she still isn't huge. sad.gif 'Saturday Night' and 'Problem' are insane. wub.gif

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ Jan 18 2015, 06:24 PM

"Surveillance" was never ever released I think, but it remains as one of my favourite songs ever and it's a crime that it never happened sad.gif

Another unreleased gem that should've seen a release is "Head Bash" by Boo2 (Sugababes' Amelle and her sister). Thankfully, it was sold to German Popstar winners 'Room 2012' and appeared on their album.

This thread is probably not about unreleased songs, so I'll stop here tongue.gif

Posted by: Acidburn Jan 18 2015, 06:24 PM

Here are a couple more

Now this should have smashed and should have been her breakthrough UK hit, but bombed by missing the top 100, dunno why it's catchy and mainstream enough.

This technically doesn't qualify as it was never released, but this was gonna be the 4th single from CAGI, but was cancelled due to her being dropped, which is such a shame as this could have saved the entire era.

Now this should have been bigger than it was, but did ok with a #14 peak, but deserved so much better and if released sooner then it could have smashed.

Posted by: Jade Jan 18 2015, 06:39 PM

One I've just remembered! I was ALL OVER this when it was released.

Not a floppy SONG per se what with the iiO version being a no.2 hit, but I adored this hypnotic version that smashed in all the way to no.40 for one week. cry.gif

ANY chance to lament the horror of her always flopping, I'll take it sad.gif It's just that she's so commercial (maybe not so much with the second era but she probably thought "meh what's the point being commercial if I still flop" laugh.gif) - Mirrors could easily be a Lady Gaga hit and Zombie could come from Rihanna's Rated R for example.

She is a judge on X Factor in New Zealand with her husband though, snatch that relevancy.

Omg yes. I loved it so much when it was released and was really hoping it would go top 10 at least. I remember following it really closely in the US too and wished it took off there too. It was climbing radio there slowly but surely and was featured on some nickledeon show which kept making it rise into the top 40 on iTunes there but radio just never showed it any love. sad.gif
