1st December 2019
It's a first week on top for the late George Michael, almost 3 years since he died, his first posthumous single, his 10th solo chart-topper, or his 12th including duets with Aretha & Whitney, or his 14th including Wham!, or his 16th including his uncredited contributions to Band Aid and David Cassidy's The Last Kiss. Take your pick. James Blunt gets his 2nd top 10 of the year as he simultaneously gets his 3rd top 40. It's his 6th top 10. Lots of big climbers this week as the top 40 blockage fragments bigly, Fall Out Boy literally beside themselves with joy taking Bob Dylan to 16, for an 8th top 20, AU/RA staying happy as she rockets to 19, Harry Styles gets a 2nd top 40 as his previous is still top 10, Efisio Cross climbs 50 places to make it the 3rd instrumental in the 40, Bastille get a 3rd top 30 (and a second cover), Collard gets a second top 40, Jonas Blue, Broken Bells and Liam Payne add to their list, while Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder Feel Love at 39 under the pseudonym Sam Smith. That's their 4th top 40 not including guest contributions on much better chart-topping material: La La La. Some oldies drop out the chart and some oldies enter the chart: 3rd-time round for Army Of Lovers' Crucified after a gap of 27 years or so, After The Fire return with Der Kommisar 36 years later, and Voice Of The Beehive have Scary Kisses 23 years on. INXS' Never Tear Us Apart has been covered by Paloma Faith in the interim, but also returns after 31 years. New entries from Celine Dion, her 2nd of 2019, extending her chart run to 30 years give or take, The Vaccines & Kylie from the Sean The Sheep movie, the lads getting a 4th chart entry 6 years since the last one, while Kylie is never out the chart and hasn't been since 1988. AWOLNATION finally get a chart entry that isn't Sail, 6 years on, and Hey Violet return for the first time since their 2016 top 20. 1 3 1 4 THIS IS HOW (WE WANT YOU TO GET HIGH) George Michael 304100 2 2 1 7 YOU AND ME AS ONE Sigma & Jack Savoretti 805100 3 1 1 5 ONE SHY MORNING Amon Tobin 710000 4 5 4 5 TOMIE GHOST DATA 208200 5 4 3 5 DON’T START NOW Dua Lipa 265400 6 6 4 8 LIGHTS UP Harry Styles 370400 7 8 7 2 DO I LOVE YOU (INDEED I DO) Frank Wilson 98000 8 9 8 6 ORPHANS Coldplay 181100 9 7 1 14 NOBODY ELSE The S.L.P. 945400 10 19 10 4 MONSTERS James Blunt 88800 11 16 11 5 NO PLACE RUFUS DU SOL 109900 12 11 2 10 MOUNTAINS Bjorn Olav Edvardson & Arcteec 534600 13 12 3 8 FROM OUT OF NOWHERE Jeff Lynne’s ELO 399400 14 10 10 11 DON’T CALL ME ANGEL (CHARLIE’S ANGELS) Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Ray 235500 15 13 8 9 ECHOES Lola Marsh 266500 16 52 16 2 BOB DYLAN Fall Out Boy 36500 17 17 1 12 DEAR FUTURE SELF (HANDS UP) Fall Out Boy featuring Wyclef Jean 840000 18 24 18 6 SYMPHONY OF YOU Pete Tong & HERO featuring Boy George 81100 19 67 19 4 STAY HAPPY AU/RA 38200 20 23 20 5 TRAMPOLINE SHAED featuring ZAYN 93950 21 14 9 9 TURN ME ON Riton & Oliver Heldens featuring Vula 232450 22 18 18 6 AN OPEN MIND Pet Shop Boys 116200 23 26 23 6 NO BOUNDARIES Pet Shop Boys 91850 24 79 24 2 WATERMELON SUGAR Harry Styles 23200 25 27 25 10 COME AND GET IT (STUDIO DEMO) The Beatles 147950 26 22 1 18 I TRANCE Agnes 1589000 27 15 15 10 HERE COMES THE SUN The Beatles 194800 28 20 6 10 YOU. Hi "Snow" Thanks, hope George climbs in yours too, and Harry gets his 2nd top 5 in a row this week for me! Did Falco do the original Der Kommissar? Playing it now. That explains a lot, how a minor UK Christian-synth-disco band suddenly managed to grab a huge USA hit with a big change of sound - they nicked it and translated the lyrics into English! Falco's original is better! cheers! |

Some acts still seem to insist on releasing low-fi budget downloads - biggest culprit is Jeff Lynne. ELO have always been Wall Of Sound on vinyl, but it's like he's just bunging 'em out on mp3 cos he has to and is deliberately trying to make you buy the album for the proper music experience. Which has the opposite effect on me! Vaccines I have to turn the sound up a few notches just to make it as loud as other tracks I've downloded, and it lacks a full-bodied sound-depth which is a shame! Cheers! |
