BuzzJack Music Forum _ Indie, Rock and Alternative _ Tom Grennan - Lighting Matches

Didn't know whether to put this here or in Pop so feel free to move. He's the guy from the Chase & Status minor hit "All Goes Wrong" from last year.

This is basically just a rip-off of Mountain at My Gates from Foals but I love that song so naturally I'm enjoying this too. This seems to be his first proper track to get a push as it is currently on the main playlist at Radio 1.

It seems very popular despite no chart impact. Being used on The X Factor trailers and the across the Sky Sports Premier League coverage.

I have to rate this as an 11/10 though and prehaps the song of the autumn.

This guy is so under-rated. 'Found What I've Been Looking For' and 'Royal Highness' were both amazing, and 'Sober' actually sounds just as good on first listen! He's getting Radio 1 support so hopefully he can do something with this. Can't wait for the album anyway biggrin.gif

Totally agree it been huge and had some sort of cultural impact - might get a post album rerelease once airplay and support is more established!

This is such a great song, I really enjoyed in Q4 last year. I am interested to see what else he puts out.

Great stuff, I read he was moving onto working on his next album so pleased he’s pushing another track from this album

Can we push for THIS to be the Christmas number 1 instead? His voice is just ridiculous - I hope R1 have sense and get on board with this ASAP given how the re-release of "Found What I've Been Looking For" seems to have boosted his profile a bit more.

I like this!

Not many singers with Tom Grennan's modest record (in chart terms) so far get to release a second album these days, so if he is working on a second album with the expectation that it will be released, that's an achievement. He certainly deserves more success than he has had so far

He's very successful in the indie scene, you don't need to have loads of chart hits to do well. 😂

All my friends are absolutely mad for him, but jesus christ "Lighting Matches" is probably up there with the worst albums of the year for me, dull uninspired shite. His voice sounds unbearable within 5 minutes as well.
