It wasn't so bad in the download era when in an average year Mariah and The Pogues would make the Top 20 for a week or two and a couple of others might reach the lower end of the Top 40. It happened and some years the effect was a bit more pronounced than others (probably due to tracking weeks) but it never hugely disrupted the chart as a whole.
It's just a write off now. I mean 30 (75%!!!!!!!) or more of the Top 40 taken over by Christmas songs of which maybe 3 might actually be new releases. |

Christmas Tree isn't even a Christmas song with those suspicious lyrics, I'm talking about a real Christmas song or album like Mariah, Bublé and Kelly's.

The only Christmas song worth caring about is Sia's ultra quirky "Santa's coming for Us' and that's on perma ACR now.
 Everything else is just so meh! Well overstating that slightly but know what I.mean... |
