So it's been almost two days since the last time we had one of these and it's now time for Semi final 2. I have no idea how we used to handle having only ONE show per year. Ridiculous times, I know! So, unlike Semi 1, Semi 2 is generally more consistent with its highs. The Czech Republic through Sweden part is essentially flawless. However, it also contains some of the contest's worst moments. Namely San Marino, Cyprus, Portugal (although I love the latter). There's more or less a clear divide between the potential qualifiers and ones who are likely to miss out, which makes tonight especially exciting because in a situation like this you think you know what's going to happen but really you don't. And Eurovision Gods do not allow two perfect Semi final results in one year. We already had perfect Semi results back in 2007 so it's enough for one decade. The show is opened by Lithuania who will briefly feature gay kisses on stage during their performance. I could not think of a better way to start the show really. Semi 1 had police and cuffs and Semi 2 will have a public gay kiss. In Russia, it usually happens the other way round~~ Molly comes right after with a soft classy ballad that hopefully doesn't get overlooked due to its unfortunate draw. San Marino and the horror of the year goes on after Molly. Let's hope they can score 0 points this year. It's been a while since we had a null points entrant. Montenegro goes after San Marino with a Zeljko-penned Balkan uptempo-ish ballad. Lack of Balkan countries in this Semi is worrying but it should at least get to the Final. There Knez can get those 12s from the rest of the Balkan bloc and finish in an okay 17th place. Maltese Amber with an inferior Warrior will go on stage after Knez. Unlikely to qualify in such a strong selection but you never know. Norway comes next with a haunting ballad which is very much expected to advance to the Final on Saturday. Supposedly DOA Portugal is performing in 7th slot. It's one of the more certain DNQs of the year so it'll be shocking if Leonor somehow makes it. Although if Suzy couldn't do it then this bitch definitely has no chance. Czech Republic performs their cliched but classy ballad. Hopefully the power of the voices and duo's chemistry will help the song to not finish bottom 5 and get country's best Eurovision result ever. Nadav from Israel performs right in the middle of the show. His ethnic titshaker is one of the fan favourites this year so everyone who can vote in this Semi needs to do it. It's already weird enough to not have Israel in the Final for 4 years in a row. Continuing this run of amazing entries we have Latvia with a modern slowtempo performed by Aminata. Elnur comes back to Eurovision 7 years later as a solo artist and will be performing his song 11th. Iceland with barefoot Maria Olafs got a not very fortunate draw after Azerbaijan and before Sweden, the current favourite to win the whole thing. After winning Melodifestivalen it was obvious Mans would shoot straight to the top of the bookmakers' to-win lists, which he did. Swiss Melanie Rene performs after Sweden therefore sorry but gurl bahh. Cyprus and one of the supposed fan favourite songs of this year that I am really not getting goes on stage next. He's likely to stand out and qualify so we'll probably see Cyprus' return to the Final after 3 years. Slovenia is also expected to qualify which would mark the first time since the introduction of the Semifinal system that they qualified for the final twice in a row. Poland's Monika is closing the Semifinals this year. This one is also quite a mystery for me personally. Can this performance not be a boring sitting in a wheelchair type plz thanx <3 UK is voting in this Semi Final so, Brits, charge your phones and forget about future phone bills. So yeah tonight is likely to be fabulous so get ready and we'll meet in Vienna in a mere 8 hours *.* 01. Lithuania Monika Linkytė & Vaidas Baumila - This Time 02. Slovenia Maraaya - Here For You 17. Poland Monika Kuszyńska - In The Name Of Love The pessimistic set-up (with a hint of optimism with Czech qualifying as I think they will now and don't want to be wrong), aside from that, I don't think this could go any worse conceivably, although now I've said that it probably will. Would far rather Poland got swapped for Ireland but the draw will ensure that won't happen. Wanting: 01. Lithuania Monika Linkytė & Vaidas Baumila - This Time 02. Switzerland Mélanie René - Time To Shine 15. Cyprus John Karayiannis - One Thing I Should Have Done 16. Slovenia Maraaya - Here For You 17. Poland Monika Kuszyńska - In The Name Of Love That is a very precarious selection of favourites, I can stand to lose perhaps Switzerland (preferably for Lithuania but it'll probably be for Cyprus, and obviously Sweden will take the place of one of these) but any more and I'll feel very crushed. This is the semi where I really WANTED perfect results. C'mon. Seriously, I'm not even sure how I'm voting. I am planning currently to vote for Czech Republic definitely a couple of times, and then a vote to Norway and Slovenia to help them along, but I also want to vote for all of Azerbaijan/Ireland/Israel/Iceland/Latvia and if I do then it'll kind of be a bit of a waste. So I'll probably just stick to 3 but may chuck a vote to one of these if they do a great performance. |

I'll refrain from making my official predictions until I've heard the performances but at this point I am saying
IN: Sweden Norway Azerbaijan Slovenia Lithuania Cyprus Latvia Israel Poland Czech Republic OUT: Montenegro Iceland Ireland Malta Switzerland Portugal San Marino All changeable after the performances tonight but I think that is how it'll go. |

I think the following will qualify
Ireland (will be saved by the jury and only just) Montenegro Malta Norway Latvia (it bloody better, given the ever shortening in the odds is a classic sign of a dark horse) Azerbaijan Iceland (a lot thinking this will DNQ, but this will comfortably go through) Sweden Cyprus Slovenia I think Poland and Israel will narrowly miss out. Israel will probably get ruined by the jury vote. This post has been edited by ScottyEm: May 21 2015, 02:33 PM |

I think I've only heard two of these songs so far. Latvia's is quite good, Sweden's is quite shit. Hoping this semi is less 'dull ballad ad infinitum' than the first ~ (I will actually be watching all of this, my first ever full ESC semi omg) |

Well the first half of this semi is the worst of the four semi halves, but the second half is the best. The first semi was much more consistent whereas just about all the good ones here are found in the second half. So don't get put off straight away!
