QUOTE(i)
Set in Edwardian England - the first alien invasion story in literature - the story follows George (played by Rafe Spall) and his partner Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they attempt to defy society and start a life together.

Rupert Graves is Frederick, George's elder brother, and Robert Carlyle plays Ogilvy, an astronomer and scientist.

The War of the Worlds tells their story as they face the escalating terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their comprehension.

All of the drama begins when a foreign object lands in the heart of England.

Later on we watch as it grows and hatches, soon after humans find themselves under attack from ruthless alien. Did we mention they come armed with poisonous smoke amongst other weapons of mass destruction? Well, they do.

That's when the battle to save earth begins - but who will win?

Finally got a trailer, looks epic but who knows when it'll be airing! It's been in the pipline for a long time now so hopefully it will be worth the wait!

The biggest thing in its favour is that, unlike the American films, this adaptation is set in the right place at the right time.

Oooh can't wait for this!

This sounds good!

I was really looking forward to this but I'm sad it to say it was thoroughly boring and unnecessarily sledgehammered home the books subtext.

The original tale takes a back seat to a very uninteresting love story whose 2 leads have no chemistry and the script is poor. The usual BBC costume department excellence however.

You could probably edit it down but an hour and a half and massively improve it.

The reviews (so far) aren't glowing...no wonder it took so long to finally turn up!

Confirmed to air Sunday 17th November at 9pm on BBC One.

I may watch the first one and see what it's like.

Pretty much enjoyed this, lots of suspense and gripping drama throughout, going to stick it out for the next 2 weeks to see where it goes, looks promising to me.

Finally seen the first episode now and I thought it was really good. However, the opening lines weren't the same without Richard Burton's unmistakeable tones.
