Seems to be the main issue is one of authenticity. She was aimed (by herself, by Interscope, by the mysterious money men) squarely at the blogosphere and the hipsters where she first gained some interest. She is not the first artist to do this, appealing to the alt/indie crowd, but has been the most successful. Would it have been different if she had gone the pop route. Yes, probably. Just seems to me like a lot of people feel conned by the name-change, lip-job, and hair-do. I personally don't find her very attractive (never have liked a trout pout) but I do like the music. Which actually isn't that alt. but is very very retro, like a 21st Century update of a doomed 60s chanteuse.
If she was forced to get the extreme image change because of them then that is disturbing but her family is not short of cash so isn't it plausible that she was the person who decided to get this done. Says more about her possible state of mind then...

I just don't necessarily understand why, in this age of everybody getting botox and looking like mannequins, we are arguing about whether another 20-something has a plastic face.
I don't like it but understand that it's something that happens now.

Grebo seems to have nicely summed up te debate that's been raging about Lizzie/Lana for ages now nad quite frankly I don't really care whether she's authentic or not. One of the things that really pisses me off about certain aspects of the 'indie' scene is this continuing belief that authenticity is the holy grail. This is usually championed by people who can't see the irony of deliberately trying to be authentic. And often it comes at the expense of a decent tune or production. David Bowie was hardly being authentic when he pretending to be Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane but rather creating a character. And these are two classic, iconic looks of 70s music. Oh and Kraftwerk weren't really robots (metaphorical or otherwise)
Lana's music is beautiful and evocative. I don't care whether she's authentic or what she looks like as I spend hardly any time looking at her (and much like Grebo she does little for me).

The music is what matters

Yeah that's true, but it's only mysogyny if we find out that men have written the songs or are responsible for those lines.

There is something about her that feels quite forced but nevertheless 'Born To Die' is such a beautiful song. The chorus is fantastic. I didn't like Blue Jeans so much but Video Games was also stunning.

Beautiful video (the ending especially), regardless of her and the song.

agreed... despite being very female, there is something weirdly androgenous about LDR.... she looks like a seriously successful sex change. Try saying that with a lisp.

So beautiful. Her facial expressions are scarily (and surprisingly) outstanding and incredible.

I like the song just like Video Games even though I don't want to like her because she seems so forced.

I definitely think 2012 will be hers.
