Following the BAFTA NOMINATED Cunk on Shakespeare as well as Cunk on Christmas, BBC Two have commissioned a full five part series titled 'Cunk on Britain'.

QUOTE(Radio Times)
Promising to “exploring the rich, historical journey that’s led our great country to 2017’s Brexit Britain,” the series will give Cunk an opportunity to share her uniquely original overview of the nation’s past.

“From the oldest era imaginable, Cunk’s insightful analysis of events and popular culture will tell the story of Britain’s battles, Medieval monarchs and the expansion of the Empire, right up through Thatcher, Britpop, the discovery of Nick Clegg and the invention of Brexit," said the BBC in a statement. “She’ll be asking probing questions such as: were dinosaurs the first people to discover Britain? When did Britain get officially ‘Great’? Where did Robin Hood buy his tights or was that bit just made up? The ultimate guide to our country's past: Cunk On Britain. The rest is history.”

Philomena herself said: "In 2017, Britain stands at a fork in its crossroads, so what better way to find out where we might be heading than looking behind us, into history (which apparently is a sort of 'rear view mirror’ for time). "I’ll be travelling the length and width of the country talking to experts and standing in front of old buildings saying things into the camera, as I try to discover what made Ancient Britain the Modern Britain it is today."

Cunk has been one of my favourite comedy characters right from her appearances in Weekly Wipe. To get a full 30 minute programme with Shakespeare was amazing in itself (and THE funniest 30 minutes I have ever seen). I am over the moon that we're getting a full five part series and I really cannot wait <3

OMG *.* Best woman on television I swear, this'll make a nice replacement to Weekly Wipe.

(still need to watch Cunk on Shakespeare though!)

This is of course the funniest thing on TV, the writers are genius and Diane Morgan delivers it perfectly as always. Literally every line is hilarious and laugh out loud funny. I still can't get over the intro where she starts waving on the train only for the bush to get in the way.

'they sent over Spanish Amanda to sort it out'

'more research needed, make sure script amended before voiceover record'

Adolph Hitler was a funny looking character with silly hair...a bit like Boris Johnson...but he turned out to be a hateful maniac who'd let nothing get in the way of his ambition...a bit like Boris Johnson...' laugh.gif

Really enjoying this at the moment. Peston seemed to get it, but the others seemed wonderfully oblivious!

My favourite is that we know about the Battle of Hastings 'thanks to a quick thinking bystander who took a tapestry of it', and going on to mention it's 'like a Game of Thrones season finale drawn by an eight-year-old boy ... Just like being there, but in wool.'

She needs to do a documentary on the whole history of life, I could listen to her for days *. I love how straight faced and deadpan she keeps it as well, especially when she talks to the experts!

"And I'll be standing on a cliff shouting at a helicopter".

I can't help feeling it will be difficult to find enough experts who don't already know who she is ao the format will probably have to change for any subsequent series. Either that or use American experts instead.

This is the funniest thing that's been on TV in AGES! I've been creasing at every single episode.

Actually adore(d) this series, the amount of times I had to go back a few seconds to watch something a 2nd time just to laugh at it just as much again was insane. laugh.gif

I always assumed they knew exactly what they were getting into but they were just told to answer questions as seriously as possible.

Most non-actors are terrible at acting themselves, with or without a script. It also seems that some of the contributors gradually realise it's a wind-up.

To the surprise of, approximately, nobody there is going to be a book.
