01 - 440pts - Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There (from 'Spice')
02 - 435pts - Spice Girls - Spice Up Your Life (from 'Spiceworld') 03 - 431pts - Spice Girls - Wannabe (from 'Spice') 04 - 423pts - Spice Girls - Goodbye (from 'Forever') 05 - 373pts - Spice Girls - Holler (from 'Forever') What can I say, five incredible singles! The Top 5 begins with 'Holler', released in October 2000 as a Double A Side with 'Let Love Lead the Way'. It was their first single in almost 2 years, which felt like a lifetime in the music world. Nevertheless it went straight in at #1 in the UK, their 9th and final chart topper. 'Goodbye', which was released in December 1998, remained as a stand-alone single until its eventual inclusion on 'Forever' in November 2000. It's the 11th and final track on the album. It was their third consecutive Christmas #1. The word "iconic" is thrown around a lot these days, but 'Wannabe' is truly iconic. The ultimate girl group single (in my humble opinion!) doesn't come out on top in these results though. 'Spice Up Your Life' launched their second album 'Spiceworld' in a spectacular fashion, entering at #1 in the UK with well over 300,000 copies. On this occasion the group was confident enough to release their album on the strength of just one single. With 'Spice' they had a two single build up, with the second single 'Say You'll Be There' utilised as the album's launch single - released three weeks before 'Spice'. And it's your winner, the ultimate "First/Lead/Launch Singles"! An effortlessly cool song. Thanks for all your rank lists, let us know what you think of these results! |

CORRECT RESULTS (apart from Holler which should have been #2).
Say You'll Be There is the better song to lead the album, it literally reinforced them as a serious group to look towards rather than a one-hit wonder. Same with Spice Up Your Life and Holler. Goodbye is perfection and deserves more focus and attention. Wannabe is a classic beyond anything else. A song so powerful that literally changed the industry and is still the most recognisable song in the world according to science. What a perfect collection of songs! |
