Sky Sports will remain the home of ICC (International Cricket Council) cricket until 2031 after Sky extended its partnership, continuing to show the biggest events in international cricket for years to come.

The new long-term deal, starting in 2024, means Sky and NOW retain the ICC Broadcast and Digital rights to show all men's and women's events at the pinnacle of the sport, including the ICC Cricket World Cups and ICC T20 World Cups through to the end of 2031.

Sports streaming subscription service DAZN and free-to-air (FTA) broadcaster ITV have landed live broadcast rights in the UK for the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to the Daily Mail.

The deal, which kicks in from this season’s edition of the domestic franchise Twenty20 cricket tournament, will reportedly run for five years.

DAZN has purportedly secured the lion’s share of fixtures and will stream 58 IPL games per season, including the playoffs and final. ITV will broadcast 16 regular season matches each year.

DAZN and Sky Sports have tied up the rights to the 2023 IPL in the UK and Ireland.

All 74 matches will be available through the two providers, with the tournament beginning on 31 March. Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch through its linear channels or Now, while DAZN will have it on its streaming platform as well as its recently launched channel available on Sky.

England trio Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Sam Curran will be taking part in the men’s competition this year, with the opening match between Hardik Pandya’s 2022 champions Gujarat Titans and Stokes’ Chennai Super Kings on Friday.

DAZN and ITV had been strongly linked with a joint deal to bring the IPL back to free-to-air, but ITV appears to have missed out. ITV showed the competition between 2010 and 2014, the last time it wasn’t behind a paywall in the UK.

Bryan Henderson, director of cricket & NFL at Sky Sports, said: “The IPL sees the best players from across the world face off in front of a fanatical local audience in search of glory – resulting in some of the most explosive cricket around.

Television coverage of the English Football League is set to stay on Sky Sports after it was named as the preferred bidder for 2024 onwards.

Reports had suggested that streaming platform DAZN wanted to show every game live, ending the Saturday 3pm blackout.

In a statement, the EFL said it had completed a "full and comprehensive review" of invitation to tender bids.

It added it would now enter into an exclusive month-long negotiating period with Sky.

The previous five-year broadcast deal, worth £595m, was signed in 2018 and allows Sky to show at least 138 league matches a season as well as every play-off game and the Carabao Cup final.

The Premier League will increase the number of live televised fixtures in the UK from 200 to around 270 in its next rights cycle.

Five live packages of between 42 and 65 games are going up for tender in a four-year deal from the 2025-26 season.

The Saturday afternoon 3pm blackout will remain in place but every 2pm Sunday kick-off will be televised.

This is the first time the Premier League has been through a tender process for its rights since 2018.

Don't think this changes too much despite what the media say. Suspect BBC/ITV will still get the first pick.
