BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 3rd April 2021, 02:46 PM

Lil Nas X could make it two weeks at #1 with MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name), his closest competition coming from Nathan Evans and Justin Bieber. Olivia Rodrigo’s new single deja vu is set to enter the Top 40, plus releases from BTS, Bru-C/Bad Boy Chiller Crew and Wes Nelson/Yxng Bane

Scottish band The Snuts' first album W.L. goes up against Justin Bieber for the #1 spot, as well as Demi Lovato's seventh album Dancing With The Devil...The Art of Starting Over. Dry Cleaning's debut record New Long Leg is among the new releases, including The Fratellis, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Lil Tjay

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

I would assume lil nas x should comfortably get a 2nd week at the top. Can’t see anything close to challenging it this week.

Posted by: Zak 3rd April 2021, 05:39 PM

Demi seems to be pushing hard in the UK for some reason. I'm seeing ads, competitions, and exclusive UK versions. Great album but it's making no noise. Hoping for a top 5 since sales are so low.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd April 2021, 05:50 PM

Rooting for The Snuts for #1! Gave the album a listen earlier, a fantastic debut biggrin.gif

Looking forward to hearing The Fratellis' and Dry Cleaning's releases soon

Posted by: Mart!n 3rd April 2021, 05:53 PM

I think Lil Nas X is in for a long haul at the top as for Olivia I wouldn't be surprised if her new track misses the top 10 this time round. As for the albums, I really can't call it at the moment.

Most likely a high climber from Majestic ohmy.gif I see its currently #1 on the iTunes chart.

And on a separate note, there won't be a Monday Update due to a Bank Holiday.

Posted by: Dot Branning 3rd April 2021, 08:33 PM

Can't see anything standing in the way of a second week for Lil Nas.

Hope the Bru-C track can do reasonably well but not optimistic after Streetside missed the Top 100.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 4th April 2021, 12:32 AM

The Vaccines' debut album had a 10 year anniversary vinyl re-release out this week, I have no idea how many were made but it would be nice for it to re-enter!

Lead single from their fifth album is coming next month wink.gif

Posted by: Rob 4th April 2021, 09:25 AM

Is there no sales thread for last week?

Posted by: Bjork 4th April 2021, 09:49 AM

^guess not cos it was a Holiday

Posted by: Glenn 69 4th April 2021, 01:07 PM

Presume the long holiday means no First Look today and possibly no updates at all until Wednesday?

Posted by: JosephStyles 4th April 2021, 01:13 PM

First Look is on today as usual, and OCC will post full Tuesday mids in place of Monday.

Very happy to see Astronaut In The Ocean climbing, only actually heard it for the first time a few days ago but it's grown on me very fast. Also a new peak for Ava Max would be good news, hope she can maintain that.

The Business isn't really slap house imo though, it's more Meduza-esque sort of deep house I think.

Yes I still like Friday although I am perhaps getting a little bored with it now as it's been in the charts for quite a while

Posted by: Dot Branning 4th April 2021, 05:56 PM

I don't really mind Friday, it's hardly amazing and not worthy of #1 status but it's not utterly terrible either. I actually find the completely pointless remix of Rasputin more irritating.

It always is in First Look - typically it'll have 2 days of Amazon data but only 1 of Spotify, YouTube and Apple, so anything suffering on Amazon (MONTERO and particularly Peaches) would be lower than expected. I'd be gobsmacked if MONTERO wasn't #1 quite comfortably by Friday!

edit: Wellerman just 500 ahead, and Lil Nas X is 700 ahead of Riton, according to the OCC

I assume the chart update will be Tuesday and not tomorrow as it’s a bank holiday?

Posted by: Mart!n 4th April 2021, 06:00 PM

QUOTE
Nathan Evans’ Wellerman ft. 220 Kid and Billen Ted is taking on Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me By Your Name) for this week’s Number 1 single following the latter’s tight Number 1 debut.

Wellerman is in the lead on today’s First Look but it’s set to be another close race, with the two tracks just 500 chart sales apart after 48 hours.

Riton x Nightcrawlers’ Friday ft. Mufasa & Hypeman stands just another 700 chart sales behind at Number 3, giving the track an opportunity to take the lead over the next few days.

Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta could earn a place in this week’s Top 5, as BED climbs two places to Number 5. If it holds on it will become Joel’s third Top 5 hit, Raye’s second and David Guetta’s 14th.

Ava Max flies up six with My Head & My Heart, setting course for a new peak at Number 13, and finally, Leave The Door Open by Silk Sonic rises six places to Number 17, potentially landing the Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak project a new peak by Friday’s chart.

I find the remix of Rasuptin catchy.

It's catchy because the original is catchy. The remix adds absolutely nothing and shouldn't exist on charts.

Anyway, how on earth is Peaches #4, surely will be #3 at least on Friday, if not #2 even.

EDIT. Ah explained above, thanks

Posted by: Mart!n 4th April 2021, 06:20 PM

I think by Friday it will look something like this, pure guess work. I can't make up my mind between Bed and Wellerman as only a snippet of Wellerman was played on Ant & Dec last night, most likely Wellerman at #4.

1 MONTERO
2 Peaches
3 Bed/ Wellerman
4 Wellerman/ Bed
5 Friday

Oh well, we shall know more on Tuesday...

Posted by: Mart!n 4th April 2021, 06:37 PM

On a different note I know some of you are wondering where is the sales topic for last week, just want to address it in here, we actually didn't get anything from MW due to a public holiday, I know in the past we had them on a Friday during the Easter break, it is still on my radar, if anything comes along a chart mod or myself will post if it becomes available otherwise we have to do without one for a week. Just thought I shed some light on it.

Sorry guys.

Really frustrating that Bieber will most likely end up peaking at no2, both for the album and a single from this campaign. After that appalling last album I think he deserved a number 1 from this.

Typically speaking, the out the gate success of a new album will be strongly influenced by the popularity of the previous one. Not often immediate to win back audience trust.

Though Changes had a far lower opening tally than Purpose which was his biggest album to date! Justice outdid that despite Changes being panned and not exactly having an amazing chart run, and is already holding up better, so I think Justin's very much going against what you'd expect recently.

Posted by: Sour Candy 5th April 2021, 06:28 AM

He also has a new EP out now.

Posted by: Bjork 5th April 2021, 06:55 AM

I think in the case of Bieber, her label/manager learnt from the mistakes of the last album and corrected them
and set it all up to have a good era, better songs, lots of pre-album singles etc
Scooter Braun might be evil (per Taylor) but he knows how to do his job

Posted by: Sour Candy 5th April 2021, 07:14 AM

He also knows how to ruin Demi's album release tongue.gif

Posted by: Bjork 5th April 2021, 07:50 AM

2 Demi Lovato
3 Dry Cleaning

Posted by: SevenSeize 6th April 2021, 11:53 AM

amazing for Dry Cleaning ohmy.gif another left field post-punk band coming for a surprise top 5 album this year?

Demi may have the best chance at #1 now with all the coloured CD/cassette bundles being pushed, I don't have much interest in either artist but it'd be quite impressive if The Snuts held on

Posted by: Bjork 6th April 2021, 12:00 PM

cannot imagine Demi selling that much even if she has 4 different CDs and 3 cassettes

Posted by: Bjork 6th April 2021, 12:57 PM

if you stream tracks off Rumours, it also counts for their Best Of, so makes sense they go hand in hand in the charts

Posted by: Herbs 6th April 2021, 12:57 PM

Surprised at how much Tom Grennan and Lana Del Rey have fallen on the albums chart. Can’t see them rising from those positions also

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 6th April 2021, 01:04 PM

Wasn't expecting Demi anywhere near that high!

Posted by: Bjork 6th April 2021, 01:05 PM

even worst for Ben Howard, out of the top 100

but maybe that makes the OCC do something, if you look at the album charts it's really a playlist/compilations chart
it's not indicative at all of what people are buying beyond week 1

Didn’t even notice that - that is shocking. I have always thought streaming severely impacts some album artists, especially when you see they are 40+ places higher in the sales chart

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 6th April 2021, 01:37 PM

Did not expect Ben Howard to fall that much at all, i thought he would be safely top 40, i hope Maroon 5 can get a new peak this week with their singles album.

They won’t do anything - we’ve already had the You Me At Six album drop 1 - out this year and The Vamps 1-72-out last year along with countless other 1 week Top 5/10 wonders.

:tumbleweed:

kink.gif

It's a shame that Ben Howard is likely dropping straight out of the top 100 but he's not the first and won't be the last, I'm mostly past caring about the longevity of albums that don't get streaming support, just happy it got #1.

Good to see Silk Sonic back in the top 20 today, hopefully a new peak this week (feels like it should be blowing up more but at least it is doing a lot better in the US).

Posted by: ben08 6th April 2021, 03:31 PM

It's those Greatest Hits albums again.

8 Fleetwood Mac - 50 Years: Don't Stop
13 Elton John - Diamonds
21 Abba - Gold: Greatest Hits
24 Michael Jackson - Number Ones
26 Bob Marley & The Wailers - Legend
31 The Beatles - 1 ^
34 Whitney Houston - The Ultimate Collection ^
36 Maroon 5 - Singles ^
37 George Michael - Twenty Five ^
39 Bee Gees - Timeless: The All-Time Greatest Hits ^

And there are many more in the Top 100 albums update chart. A result of streaming no doubt.

I think I count 48 Greatest Hits/Playlist albums (ie Mabel,Becky Hill) in the mids top 100
and there's also lots of classic albums
so approx 2/3 of the album chart is old stuff

the rest is like the biggest names from the last 3/4 years
but hardly anything from2020/21 besides the newies, which will all be gone next week

Doja Cat - Streets
Rag'n'Bone Man - All You Ever Wanted
Ryn Weaver - Pierre

Yeah, there's recently 5-6 month wait times for vinyl production - apparently the backlog is particularly significant in the USA. Lana's recent album was ready months before its release, but they waited to release it so that she could have a vinyl on sale in week 1.

Technically yes, but Spotify and sometimes Apple are a day behind when reporting streaming data, so Thursday's data isn't reported in time for the final chart and it's upweighted based on trends over the week. Friday to Wednesday are genuine streams but anything streamed on Thursday doesn't technically count!

I don't see why helping them would be against the rules?

Some of us couldn’t afford albums 20 years ago but we didn’t have this option. We also couldn’t stream for free either. It’s naive to believe something like this is about anything but chart manipulation.

Just because you didn't have access to a resource in the olden days, doesn't mean it's unfair for people to have it now.

This is 2021.

Just because you didn't have access to a resource in the olden days, doesn't mean it's unfair for people to have it now.

This is 2021.

T Boy's main point was about it being chart manipulation though. If the fans wanted to hear the album, they can do so on Spotify for free, but at a cheap price this is allowing them to buy a digital copy which contributes more to the charts than even the most fanatic fan could do on streaming (ie, why else would they be doing this if not to bolster sales?). It's the same reason "Dynamite" keeps selling 50,000 copies every week in the US. Whether or not its allowed is at the discretion of the chart company (and it seems to be), but calling it chart manipulation is fair game.

Posted by: Everton 7th April 2021, 07:10 PM

Every deed week James Arthur can not get top 40 or Becky hill Friday chart show gone be boring one not lot happen

Posted by: Bjork 7th April 2021, 07:12 PM

I personally think these funded sales are 1000% wrong, any sort of mass buying is wrong and chart manipulation
if I were to buy 100 sales myself, those would be excluded cos of chart rigging, this is the same

and who funds this? wouldn't surprise me if it were the record labels tbh

Thanks for expanding on my ‘silly point’, that’s what I was meaning exactly.

There was chart manipulation all that time ago too, but people used to call it out for what it was and some people still went without. If you were a child, you maybe got an album for birthdays and Christmases or after saving up pocket money for months.

Demi just released 1000 bundles that include signed posters and come with 2 albums. They're sold out so that means an extra 2000 sales right?

Demi's Team made available 1,000 signed poster with 2 copies of diferents covers of the album each and sold-out in less than 20 minutes

I'm surprised how strong a challenge Demi is putting up but I was thinking The Snuts probably had enough of a fanbase to get #1 and Bieber would only get there by default if WhoOdyssey had been lying to us about their popularity x

No, Demi's posted many videos of her signing things.

The signed posters & art cards in the bundle are going to be shipped separately in a few weeks after they've arrived in the UK, whilst the CDs are being sent out this week.

I don't know what else the manager of The Snuts expected when he started tweeting @ the official charts company and saying it's 'corruption' if they allow Demi's sales to count towards the chart, whilst his group is selling £16 concert ticket bundles in a pandemic to get album sales...

Tour bundles have never not been a thing even for the past year, and there's actually a good chance they'll go ahead when planned now. If Demi announced an Autumn tour suddenly, they'd lap those up!

Let's be realistic, tour venues are not going to be operating in 3 months.

Those tickets will be postponed or cancelled, but the album sales will remain.

I would argue that is way more unethical than a fan using another fan's money to buy an album for themself.

They're not being forced to buy the tickets with the album, people can make the choice themselves and judge.

I don't think the shows going ahead in *5* months is out of the question either with the vaccine rollout. You might as well be annoyed at every artist in the last year for using the bundles.

I personally don't have an issue with tour bundles.

Just pointing out the hypocritical behaviour of The Snuts' manager trying to complain about the strategies used by Demi's fans (strategies acknowledged by OCC as being not against chart rules), when the ones he's using for his own band are just as questionable, if not more.

The signed items will ship separately - they have made that clear on the order page so Demi is continuing to sign items. TBH after how hard she got dragged before for auto pen signatures I don’t think they would dare do it again.

It’s laughable that The Snuts manager is saying that Demi’s bundles shouldn’t count!

Echoing the above comments, The Snuts album was bundled with tour tickets and I’m sure there was a pre-order for early access too

It’s annoys me so much when The Snuts could have done exactly the same had they actually researched and planned into how bundles/ reductions etc work when it gets close for the number 1!

I hope Demi gets it purely on that basis! !

Either way it’s damaging behaviour to do it publicly! It’s an attempt to discredit her potential number 1 if they lose out.

If he really had an issue why not email to complain...

Lol I was going to say Demi’s fans were hardly unprovoked but didn’t wanna face the onslaught... The Snuts are hyping up the battle they shouldn’t be surprised or offended that there’s a reaction?
