According to various sources and Wayne Hector himself Niall is currently writing and recording a solo album. Only Wayne Hector is so far confirmed to work with him.
Can't wait for this! So happy that he's doing more than doing golf management.

Posted by: SamJudd May 21 2016, 01:19 AM

Honestly out of all of them, I'd actually most interested in hearing what Niall's and Liam's solo stuff the most. Honestly don't think much of Zayn's stuff, but hopefully Niall will get some solid material as he does have an interesting voice that has gotten better and better throughout the last couple of years. So yeah honestly, can't wait and also I was kinda hoping that Niall would also do what Harry's planning to do and give acting a shot, as he does have the look and charisma and with the right part and direction and also some training, I think he could be really good at it. But with the solo stuff, yeah I think he might surprise everyone.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam May 21 2016, 12:27 PM

Very excited by this. I have to agree, his voice has grown and matured so much over the years, and I think solo Niall could be really amazing!

Posted by: AdamAloud May 21 2016, 12:45 PM

Hopefully Wayne Hector has saved his better work for Niall after the disaster that was the Irish Eurovision entry this year.

Posted by: pippa May 31 2016, 04:34 PM

Would Niall take to the Eurovision stage for Ireland i do wonder?

Posted by: tommie Jun 1 2016, 12:50 PM

Is he the blonde twink?

Posted by: Maurice Jun 1 2016, 01:53 PM

He is!
According to The Sun Niall is about to sign a huge solo contract with Syco who wants to make him the big solo star of 1D.

We all can DREAM

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 1 2016, 08:10 PM

I really hope he can become big, because to me he deserves it the most from the band and is the one that I feel is the most passionate about his music. He is easily the most likeable from the group, imo. But I get the feeling that he'll be the least successful out of all 5 of them sad.gif Fully expecting him to be a pound-stretcher version of Ed Sheeran, but hopefully it's listenable.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam Jun 2 2016, 02:18 PM

I'm hoping Niall will give us some pop gems, he seems the most cheesy of the bunch, in the best way possible wub.gif

Posted by: Mauri€e Aug 23 2016, 07:06 PM

Niall is in LA at the moment recording his solo album, which is apparently due early next year. He is the only member of 1D signed by Syco and Modest! for his solo career and Simon Cowell is planning to make him the big solo star of 1D.

Posted by: Cody's Glory Aug 31 2016, 06:17 AM

When does this come out because I want it NOW

Posted by: JosephStyles Sep 7 2016, 06:52 PM

Turns out he's signed to Capitol Records!

Posted by: ThePensmith Jul 10 2017, 02:16 PM

Niall's debut album has been confirmed for a release date of 20th October - pre-order has now gone live at his http://www.niallhoran.com, and those who pre-order now will also gain access to the pre-sale of his first world tour that starts in Dublin at the end of August:

Thanks for the merge Joe smile.gif I imagine we'll have another single between now and October. Hopefully he does another tour next year after the album's out as I'd imagine the two UK and Ireland dates on this will sell like hot cakes!

Posted by: Martyn Jul 11 2017, 11:39 AM

Interesting decision to tour the album before the album is released...

Posted by: ThePensmith Jul 13 2017, 09:15 PM

Presale for the London and Dublin dates sold out in an hour today. I think it's safe to say general sale will sell out similarly speedily!

There were rumours before regarding a collaboration between the pair and it seems like this is true. Ellie and Niall have been recording together in the studio today! [Instagram]

the niall x ellie track will be a greg kurstin production i'd assume?

post 'hands' i'm actually anticipating, he appears to be the direction dark horse....

Posted by: SGrey Jul 16 2017, 08:21 AM

I suppose there is always the possibility he could be the feature and Ellie the lead if shes recording for her new album (supposedly). Either way still very excited - really liking Niall as a solo artist and Ellie is fab as always! biggrin.gif

Potentially a Justin T cover?

Posted by: ThePensmith Aug 31 2017, 01:06 PM

Interesting title for the album. I'm told the first gig of his tour at Dublin Olympia went down a storm! Look forward to hearing the new songs.

Posted by: Shaphne Sep 1 2017, 01:35 PM

Not overly keen on the title, makes me think of him picking his nose, but excited nonetheless

Noise11 is reporting that the track will be released this Sunday. Not sure if this means that the pre-order of the album (with that song) will come out that day or if it's going to be released first in the US at midnight today.

This is surely going to be a huge album. Just a shame it's been a while since Slow Hands. Would've been a great album seller.

I think out of all of 1D I'm the most interested in Niall and seeing what this is like

Also be good to have a new single (or whatever is coming on Sunday) as Slow Hands was great... also This Town has grown on me a fair bit too

I guess it doesn't matter because Niall confirmed that the song is out at midnight EST.

As a consequence, I assume that Noise11 listed the track with a September 17 release date because it was going to be released first in the US as I implied before.

A rather expletive heavy review of the album artwork from Popjustice:
https://www.popjustice.com/briefing/petition-for-louis-tomlinson-to-call-his-album-clint/

It really is a terrible photo of Niall, but hey, at least he's not wearing a hat!

Posted by: blacksquare Sep 15 2017, 12:05 PM

I hate that the new song is less Slow Hands and more This Town

Could this be a potential big Q4 seller? Who would have thought

Posted by: Josh! Sep 15 2017, 12:43 PM

Loving the album cover, he looks great on it and I'm not really seeing the 'f***er' thing although I did find the article funny laugh.gif

The new single is nice but not hitting me as much as "Slow Hands" yet, I do hope there is some more upbeat stuff saved for the album because I'm getting excited for it now but also a little worried that it might be a total bore sad.gif

I think the album cover is pretty hideous. Have loved Niall's solo stuff so far (I'm more of a fan of solo 1D than I ever was on 1D really into Harry and Niall's stuff), but really dissapointed with that boring cover. I think the Slow Hands cover would actually be much better.

Ah well I wish him the best I may even buy the album hope it is as good as Harry's.

Posted by: ThePensmith Sep 22 2017, 07:02 AM

The album's now available to fully pre-order on his official store. Multitude of formats I have the time nor patience to list but suffice to say if you pre-order any of them you get access to the presale for his 2018 tour: http://musicstore.niallhoran.com/

Louis tweeted that he saw Niall and that he was "so f***ing proud". Bless.

How can you possibly state its not looking Number 1 when you don't know any sales figures or even have the first set of midweek figures? If you're basing this on I-tunes sales, then I wouldn't bother as album sales on there are so low.

I listened to the first track and thought it was great; will listen to the rest when I get a chance.

I'm halfway through this and wasn't really expecting to like it that much based on the singles but "On the Loose" is fantastic! By far the best thing that I've heard from him so far, I can definitely feel the Fleetwood Mac influence in it. "Since We're Alone" also feels very FM.

I enjoyed "Seeing Blind" too, I think it would work well as a single, I don't actually know any of Maren's music but her voice pleasantly surprised me.

I think they've released completely the wrong songs as singles so far. I still don't like "Slow Hands" but I think it would have made a much better debut single than "This Town" which is an album track at best. I like "Too Much to Ask" but again, it doesn't feel single-worthy. I am glad that it's shaping up to be a decent effort though and hopefully he'll have continuous success with it rather than dropping quickly like Zayn did - although his album remains my favourite by a former 1D member, so far it's miles better than Harry's though.

Top 3 is excellent! Zayn’s #1s over here and in USA are not reflective of his success at all as the album barely sold anything on either sides of the Atlantic!

Wonderful for Niall to get his solo number 1 album in the USA. Really enjoying his album, On the Loose is the stand out. That said, all his music is slow burning. Slow Hands for example was released over a moth before i grew to love it, and now, i have it on constant play.

Wow excellent! Wel done Niall.

Posted by: Spiceboy Oct 30 2017, 05:08 PM

All this success One Direction are enjoying across the pond really makes me wonder how Spice Girls would have done if they had stayed together for longer and developed more of a track record in the USA like One Direction did, before going solo.

I know the girls never really got a proper push over there apart from Geri with LAM, which is a real shame as some of them had real potential:

- When you're gone (with Bryan Adams)
- Never be the same again (with Lisa Left Eye Lopez)
- I turn to you [it got alot of radio play over there but was not properly released until it was too late - it actually won a Grammy Award!!]

- I want you back (with Missy Elliot)
- Feels so good / Tell me [RnB was huge in America at the time FSG in particular could have slotted in quite nicely]

- Mi chico latino [The Spanish sound was massive in America too at the time]

- What took you so long [Fits really well with the country guitar sound over there]

Posted by: pippa Oct 30 2017, 05:39 PM

Spice Girls in general split far to quickly. One Direction stayed much longer and made such great success which has strongly benefited all their solo careers.

Each one of them has managed good solo success so far, at the moment there is no big front runner.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Nov 2 2017, 03:49 PM

Have any of the boys done particularly well though? I don't think any of them have matched Zayn's 'pillowtalk' in terms of longevity and actual success? Everything else seems quite flash in the pan?

Posted by: Jay ☆ Nov 2 2017, 04:31 PM

I think a major reason why One Direction have managed successful US solo careers is thanks to their strong social media presence and being in the digital age. Twitter/Facebook/the internet in general makes it easy for them to launch their solo material with a bang, while iTunes/Spotify makes their music instantly accessible. I know the same goes for every act these days, but given the huge number of followers 1D amassed individually, it's incredibly easy for them to gain attention! Also, they've given no one the opportunity to forget them. At their level in this day and age, that'd be quite impossible.

Spice Girls obviously didn't have any of this. They'd have had to have worked considerably harder to launch solo music in the US, visiting numerous radio stations across the states, to try and raise hype - there'd have been a lot of groundwork to do & it'd probably have been a much more expensive endeavour. Geri & Melanie C didn't have the impetus behind them to get airplay and sales. Same goes for worldwide, the solo Spice Girls had to visit numerous countries on a promo circuit for every album/single. Because of course, the one method of consumption then was physical copies and they had to raise hype to get each country to go out and buy copies. Nowhere near as easy as posting a YouTube/Spotify link on Twitter and reaching their entire fanbase with a click!

I think these differences is a major reason why the Spice Girls as a group were over quite quickly - their workload of endless promotion all over the world due to being phenomenally in demand, burned them out quickly. 1D's promotion was significantly less hectic than the Spice Girls', which allowed them to dedicate the majority of their energy into touring more significantly than the Spice Girls did.

I honestly think if there had been social media/the internet (to the level of popularity it has nowadays) in the days of the Spice Girls, then they wouldn't have had to have worked as hard and they'd have more easily maintained a presence as a group - and then as individuals - on a worldwide basis.

I think they have all done well. The industry is pretty brutal for starters. Bar Liam anyway, I don't think any of them are making commercial music. I think they're doing pretty well, the market in general is pretty brutal.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 3 2017, 12:36 PM

They have all managed a 300,000 plus selling single with Niall,Liam,Louis and zayn managing 2.i think solo wise they are all doing well and Nialls album seems to be an album that will sell for a few months. He will do more promo and get sales and sales will be higher as it's peak sales time.

I'm rather surprised that it's only sold enough for Silver in the UK when it's 2x Platinum in Ireland and Platinum in other major markets! I wonder if it's just due to varying certification thresholds or something else.

the fact that niall didnt promoted it in the uk... no performances after the album release, not even the x factor, the voice, brits... hes 15k away from gold btw

Yeah certifications elsewhere are a lot lower sales.

Tbh I think all their solo albums have sold poorly. The Spice Girls were all dropped with similar or higher album sales than those.

Times are very different to the mass sales of the 90's and early 00's though.

However I do agree sales for the 1D guys have been lower than expected. Although I think in Niall's case he was a background member of the band rather than Liam, Zayn and Harry and therefore I think he's done well

I'm wondering if the fact he's Irish has been a contributing factor to his comparative bigger success in Ireland?

You've missed my point, and I don't appreciate the sarcasm. I'm saying it must be rare for an Irish artist to be performing better globally than in the UK. Obviously it's based on one album and certifications don't tell the whole story, but for now he's platinum in 4 other countries and not even gold in the UK - is that not surprising? Glad to hear he's 15k away from getting there.

Look, drop the unnecessary attitude. There was not a single hint of sarcasm intended in that post, and I'm completely perplexed as to how you perceived it that way.

The album to my understanding is now on the verge of Gold in the UK.
For Niall, by large i think his first solo era was much more successful than many expected considering he wasn't always at the forefront of the band or had lead vocal on any of their major hits.

Ik this isn't about this era but it doesn't really need a new thread, but rumour has it that Niall is on the new Carrie Underwood album ohmy.gif

A couple of features will be good for him as it keeps his name on the market and possibly pick up some extra sales of his album in very low numbers.
