This is the first Madonna album I ever heard
I have specific memories of this one - my mum bought the CD in 1998, because she had rediscovered Rain which she loved, and additionally because I'd very recently shown interest in Madonna (Frozen was how I discovered Madonna) - so she thought I'd like it. Rain became such a long-lasting favourite for me, I'll always sing its praises.
I remember really liking Crazy for You, and perhaps randomly, Forbidden Love! I still do. I don't think I was very into the album as a whole back then. Now, I consider it a very strong collection. I bought the vinyl of it last year.
Love this collection !!
All gorgeous songs.
It's truly one fantastic album, which I truly love listen too. My Favourite song from the album would be Power of Good Bye.

This collection is perfect for this time of year! Madonna brings so much warmth and heart to her ballads which allows for that cozy, intimate feeling. I also think the context of the album allows you to appreciate the songs in a way you may not have previously; there's a few songs here I probably wouldn't individually seek out, yet I wouldn't skip anything.
I'll have a think about what I'd like as a Something to Remember 2.0 tracking list. Certainly plenty of great choices!
What's everyone's thoughts on the lead single, 'You'll See'?
Love this little statement from Madonna ahead of the compilation's release:
"So much controversy has swirled around my career this past decade that very little attention ever gets paid to my music. The songs are all but forgotten. While I have no regrets regarding the choices I’ve made artistically, I’ve learned to appreciate the idea of doing things in a simpler way. So without a lot of fanfare, without any distractions, I present to you this collection of ballads. Some are old, some are new. All of them are from my heart."
'You'll See' is never one that I go back to and I actually forget it exists most of the time. Nice enough, but it's in my bottom few of this compilation.
I've got to admit I do forget about it but I enjoy it when I hear it. You can tell Madonna's using what she learned in the vocal lessons for Evita and there is something quite performative about her delivery too. I like how it was presented as a follow-up to 'Take a Bow', another song with great storytelling.
In terms of sales, it was her biggest hit since 'Vogue' five years previously! No doubt helped by her performance on Top of the Pops, then radio caught on.
Did not know it was such a sales smash! I can see why though given how radio-friendly/user-friendly it is. Definitely agree with the comment of it being a "forgotten classic"!
You’ll See deserved a place on Celebration. It is also in her top 20 sellers in the UK
It's been kicked out her Top 20 since due to streaming, but yeah for many years it was in there!
Got this on vinyl today. Can't wait to play it - I feel it is made for those cosy nights in playing music and switching off
Ordered this just now as it was only £13.99 at WH Smith, seemed rude not to! It’s worth it just for the tracks that didn’t ever make it to any other album or compilation.
love this compilation, I think Madonna is great at doing ballads
she has so many amazing ballads, my #1 being Live to Tell
It is a gorgeous collection. She does ballads expertly!
Have this on at the moment and it's such a lovely listen, I haven't heard it in at least a decade and I'd forgotten how much I like it

I really like her version and the video is nice too. She looks great in it.
Didn't do well on Billboard Hot 100 though.
Could have been released in UK instead of One More Chance, which didn't get a music video.
I truly love that song it's amazing and the video is fantastic.
I also love the version on LAV.
Was the highlight of the rebel heart tour for me and im still gutted she was so cheap to cut it out of the DVD!
I think You'll See was the perfect single for what she needed at the time. She needed a reset with the public in the UK and You'll See and this album following did it perfectly. I Want You is okay but it is a little sub par for Massive Attack tbh.
As I said previously in this thread, you forget just how big a hit 'You'll See' was for Madonna at that time - her biggest in terms of sales since 'Vogue'! I say about wanting 'I Want You' as a single before 'You'll See' but I forget that 'You'll See' was only released two months after 'Human Nature' in the UK (not sure why that was released so late when it was released in the US in June 1995). I find that quite surprising, I thought there had been a longer gap between the two eras.
Also, I find it so random that both Shirley Bassey and Susan Boyle have covered 'You'll See'!
No idea Oh Father could have been a top 10.
Its a favourite of mine. To think it was on an album that sold million 5/6 years before release!!

#9 Australia
#9 France
#11 United Kingdom
#19 Bulgaria
#19 Germany
#26 Canada
#35 United States
I really like the Hot Mix! I guess that explains how the song ended up charting at #16 on the US Dance Club Songs chart.
You'll See included her first time on TOTP for many years.
The single run should have been
You'll See
I Want You
Love Don't Live Here Anymore
But by the sounds of it they couldn't release I Want You. One More Chance could have "Double A-sided" with LDLHA.
Oh Father should have been released instead of Dear Jessie from Like A Prayer like it was in the US.
^ DJ was huge in the UK. Outsold Cherish and Express Yourself (i think)
I so wish 'I Want You's release hadn't been thwarted, I'm interested to see how it would have done and it would've really stood out among her singles discography.

I've only just noticed that Crazy for You on Something to Remember on Spotify is 3:44, which is the edit from 1990. The Something to Remember physicals used the longer original version from 1985. A bit annoying that the original isn't available! It's not in the UK anyway.
