Initially I wrote out a forgotten non top 10's thread but the more I think of it some of these are just lead singles that didn't perform as well as you'd expected or just were very low profile.
Kelis being the first example of this as I mentioned in the Ultimate Survivor. I vaguely knew of it being in the chart but I certainly didn't remember it being the lead single from her album at the time! |

It's funny because I remember Bossy being a hit for her, but then I see it peaked at #22 in the UK. I guess because it actually did better than usual for her in the US (#16) I got the impression it must've been a hit everywhere too.

Another one I thought of is this one. Two weeks top 40 with a #14 peak. The fact she took so long to follow up didn't help matters I think.

In terms of flop leads from fairly successful campaigns, does anything beat this?

Hollier by Spice Girls
It was out the charts in 5 weeks, even as a double a seed |

and another from 2012 I thought of and comes from Madonna.
She's one that has definitely struggled in the streaming era. The song.. wasn't very good tbf. |

Not in the U.K. but these Billboard Hot 100 peaks really surprised me:
Britney Spears - Me Against The Music (feat. Madonna) - #35 Christina Aguilera - Dirrty (feat. Redman) - #48 Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For? - #47 all of these eras recovered across the pond later on in the campaign though! Not a complete flop per sé but Girls Aloud - 'Long Hot Summer' didn't get the Chemistry era off to the best start, their first single to miss the top 3/5, thankfully 'Biology' was a strong follow-up! |
