I seen a conversation on ATRL where people claim that Miley is in the top tier of Female Pop stars! What do y'all think... is she in the same league as Rihanna etc and how would you rate the female pop stars?

I'd definitely say she was cementing herself as one of the "big pop girls", as they're commonly known.
These consist of (in varying levels of success) from Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and possibly Ariana Grande. (Britney maybe too, but I think she might have expired when it comes to actually selling music) I'd say people like Selena Gomez were just outside this status, as she doesn't have the instant selling power of any of the above, she still relies on having big radio hits, though her fanbase is still rapidly growing) |

I'm not even sure on Lady Gaga (I know The Cure, Million Reasons and Perfect Illusion went #1 on iTunes) but her streaming has been very disappointing as has her chart runs within the latest campaign! I'm not overly sure on Katy Perry either, the meant to be lead single really did bomb worldwide and her fanbase seems to be declining at an alarming rate, I don't even know how her new album is going to perform.
Selena Gomez has always had good radio play and that's where Miley has always struggled, although Miley does much better in terms of sales. I would say right now the main pop girls are Ariana, Miley, Taylor, Rihanna and Beyoncé! |

I'd say top tier is Beyoncé, Gaga, Katy, Rihanna and Taylor, with Miley on the next level down alongside Ariana and Selena. Katy and Gaga may have suffered declines but they're still MASSIVE names, two of the biggest on the planet!

Tier 1 for me consists of only Beyoncé, Rihanna & Taylor Swift (potentially Katy Perry depending on how her Witness era continues). For me, the likes of Gaga are on Tier 2 now as her relevance has clearly faded. She'd been on that Tier with the likes of Selena, Ariana, Madge, Miley. They're all big names but not guaranteed a hit or massive cultural relevance with their tracks like those in the top imo.

I definitely don't think Gaga is tier 2, she's one of the few female artists who can go straight to #1 around the world on iTunes with new releases. She's not as big as she used to be, sure, but she had her massive super bowl this year. And Joanne sold really well, especially given it's a left of centre release. It's the third highest selling female album of the past year and had the second highest opening sales. I'd say Gaga is still huge.
Katy is still a huge name too, even if Bon Appetit is a bit of a blip and Witness doesn't sell as well as her previous albums. Chained to the Rhythm was big around the world, even if it didn't live up to songs from 7 years ago. The only country it under-performed in was the US really. |

I'd say she's tier 2.
---- IMO - Tier 1: - Taylor Swift - Lady Gaga - Rihanna - Beyoncé - Katy Perry (just about) Tier 2: - Miley Cyrus - Ariana Grande (almost top tier) - Selena Gomez Tier 3: - Demi Lovato - Ellie Goulding (maybe tier 2 but idk) - Britney Spears - Zara Larsson - Lorde I'm basing this on worldwide sales and impact in general. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga may not be selling loads anymore, but their impact is still very strong, especially Gaga. This post has been edited by cqmerqn: May 16 2017, 12:27 PM |

I really don't know where I'd put Britney, she's more like a legacy act like Madonna now. Still a massive name but only capable of top 20 debuts.

I'd rank them like this
1) Beyonce 2) Taylor 3) Rihanna 4) Lady Gaga/Katy Perry 5) Ariana 6) Miley Cyrus/Selena --- 666) Jessie J Gah, I always forget about Adele, though she doesn't market herself in the same way as the others, she's not a showy pop girl. But if we include her, she's probably at the top! |

I'd say Miley, Ariana and Selena are still just about 'second tier' but are probably quite close to being top tier soon enough. Particularly, Ariana. I think Miley could be tier 1 if this era is big and Selena probably needs to be bigger outside of North America to become top tier. She's still too localised in success.
I think Gaga and Katy Perry are in danger of dropping from Tier 1, but are probably still there for now. Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor are definitely Tier 1. |

I wouldn't say Beyoncé is the biggest pop girl in the world. Tbh atm with cultural impact in general I'd say Lady Gaga is the biggest.

Yeah in terms of 2016/7 I'd say Beyonce is the joint biggest artist in the world alongside Bieber, Drake and Adele.

You are joking right? Beyonce has had the biggest cultural impact easily?! Has had, yeah. There's no denying that Beyonce has had the biggest cultural impact. But what I'm saying is is that at this moment in time, Lady Gaga is the biggest pop star. That's obviously just my personal opinion but the amount of praise she has had since Super Bowl has made her new era do a U-turn for the better. Beyonce and Rihanna aren't doing much at all atm so I think it's Gaga's moment. |

In terms of celebrity status, they're Tier 1. Mileybwas inescapable during that period and Selena has like the Top 10 most liked Insta photos ever. However, I don't think either are Tier 1 in terms of music acts as I don't think, worldwide, they've had enough hits and I think people would only be able to name Wrecking Ball, Hands to Myself and maybe Party in the USA for their songs.

If we added Hannah Montana sales though :cheeseblock:
I just don't think any other act would have had the success Miley is currently having with 'Malibu' though, it was a massive risk considering Miley hasn't released a single on iTunes since 'Adore You' which was over 2 years ago? If Miley goes full pop then I can see her smashing streaming records worldwide! Miley has 2 songs out of the top five which were the most viewed on Vevo in 24 hours! |

I would rank them
1. Beyoncé 2. Taylor Swift 3. Rihanna (Although Anti was her first number one US album wasn't it?) 4. Katy Perry 5. Miley / Ariana 6. Lady Gaga 7. Selena (it would be interesting to see how her new single does next week) I wouldn't even put Britney in the top 10 either, I can't see her ever getting another top ten hit! |

It will be interesting to see how Taylor Swift does with her next campaign. I reckon she'll have a #1 debut for sure.
I can't see Britney ever having a top 40 again, let alone top 10! |

I'd actually say Taylor Swift is bigger than Beyoncé if you take album sales / single sales into consideration!
