‘Castles In The Sky’ is a classic but sounds very aged now real 1998-2003 era trance with the production and beats!

1st place Calvin Harris-I’m Not Alone [59.26%] (16 out of 28 Votes)

So Calvin is victorious! I’m Not Alone was his first no.1 as a lead artist back in Spring 2009 and in my opinion is one of his best to this date.

2nd place Katy Perry-Hot N Cold [40.74%] (11 out of 28 votes)

Katy’s second single comes in second! A top 5 hit from November 2008, it’s certainly better than I Kissed A Girl but I’ve never really rated Katy as a singer.

3rd place Christina Aguilera-Beautiful [44.74%] (17 out of 38 votes)
4th place Just Jack-Stars In Their Eyes [44%] (16 out of 36 votes)
5th place Bomfunk MCs-Freestyler [38.24%] (13 out of 34 votes)
6th place S Club Juniors-One Step Closer [43.90%] (18 out of 41 votes)
7th place Rihanna-Unfaithful [36.36%] (12 out of 33 votes)
8th place Jennifer Lopez-Get Right [29.73%] (11 out of 37 votes)
9th place Eminem-Just Lose It [33.33%] (10 out of 30 votes)
10th place Westlife – Queen Of My Heart [42.42%] (14 out of 34 votes)

1st place Robyn With Kleerup-With Every Heartbeat [66.67%] (20 out of 30 votes)

I always knew Robyn would win, a deserved Buzzjack fave! After not charting in the UK for almost a decade. Robyn returned to the charts in style in August 2007 with With Every Heartbeat. Such a different no.1 for the time, she would later make more appearances in the top 40 though sadly she hasn’t topped the chart since.

2nd place La Roux-Bulletproof [33.33%] (10 out of 30 votes)

Not as far behind as I’d anticipated but still a distance, La Roux’s only charttopper Bulletproof finishes second. The track hit no.1 in June 2009 shortly before the Michael Jackson takeover of the chart. They never troubled the upper end of the chart again.

3rd place Rihanna-Don’t Stop The Music [65.62%] (21 out of 32 votes)
4th place Gabrielle-Out Of Reach [50.00%] (15 out of 30 votes)
5th place Ultrabeat-Pretty Green Eyes [45.45%] (15 out of 33 votes)
6th place Madonna-Music [39.29%] (11 out of 28 votes)
7th place Corinne Bailey Rae-Put Your Records On [43.24%] (16 out of 37 votes)
8th place Black Eyed Peas-Don’t Phunk With My Heart [34.29%] (12 out of 35 votes)
9th place Jamelia-Thank You [27.78%] (10 out of 36 votes)
10th place Cheeky Girls-Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) [50.00%] (21 out of 43 votes)

1st place Coldplay-Viva La Vida [72.22%] (26 out of 37 votes

Surprise, surprise, Coldplay are the winners. Viva La Vida was their first no.1 back in 2008. It could not chart initially as I think it was an instant grat for the album but it flew to the top along with the album once the album was released. It was a refreshing change of sound at the time but overplay has put me off it these days.

2nd place Eminem-Lose Yourself [27.78%] (10 out of 37 votes

And that means Eminem is in second. Hitting no.1 in December 2002 and featuring in the film 8 Mile, Lose Yourself was probably Em’s most enduring hit of the 2000s. It stayed in the top 10 well into 2003 and was still hanging around when his next single dropped, dropping from the top 10 only that week. It is one of his best regarded tracks and is now a millionaire single.

3rd place Beyoncé-Halo [47.06%] (16 out of 34 votes)
4th place Rui Da Silva Feat Cassandra-Touch Me [46.67%] (14 out of 30 votes)
5th place OutKast-Hey Ya! [44.00%] (11 out of 25 votes)
6th place Daniel Bedingfield-If You’re Not The One [40.00%] (12 votes out of 30)
7th place James Morrison-You Give Me Something [40.00%) (12 votes out of 30)
8th place Destiny’s Child-Independent Women (Part 1) [23.53%] (8 votes out of 34)
9th place Nelly Feat Tim McGraw-Over & Over [64.52%] (20 votes out of 31)
10th place 50 Cent Feat Justin Timberlake-Ayo Technology [31.25%] (10 votes out of 32) TIE BREAKER [53.85%] (7 votes out of 13)

1st place My Chemical Romance-Welcome To The Black Parade [51.61%] (16 out of 31 votes)

And we have a win for MCR! A very close last round, but Welcome To The Black Parade just edges it and I’m pretty glad. Hitting the top spot for two weeks in October 2006 this always takes me back to a great time in my life, newly 18 and when a rock song can still top the chart. Well done guys.

2nd place Darude-Sandstorm [48.39%] (15 out of 31 votes)

And Darude comes in second. Another great track, Sandstorm hit no.3 back in June 2000 and is still really popular today. This always takes me back to the
summer Between leaving Primary School and starting Secondary school.

3rd place Gorillaz-DARE [44.44%] (16 out of 36 votes)
4th place Lasgo-Something [38.89%] (14 out of 36 votes)
5th place AR Rahman & Pussycat Dolls Feat Nicole Scherzinger-Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) [37.84%] (14 out of 37 votes)
6th place Jamelia-Superstar [35.90%] (14 out of 39 votes)
7th place Gabriella Cilmi-Sweet About Me [23.33%] (7 out of 30 votes)
8th place Enrique Iglesias-Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Somg) [26.67%] (8 out of 30 votes)
9th place Wyclef Jean-Perfect Gentleman [42.31%] (11 out of 26 votes)
10th place Nelly-My Place/Flap Ya Wings [53.12%] (17 out of 32 votes)

Aw, I really wanted 'Sandstorm' to get that one.

Admittedly I do like 'Black Parade' more than I did at the time.

A closer than I thought it'd be! Especially as Sandstorm is considered a meme song by many now but it still pops off.

1st place Melanie C-I Turn To You [85.71%] (30 out of 36 votes)

In a landslide victory we see Mel C reigning supreme! I don’t think anyone really saw a different outcome coming. I Turn To You became Mel’s second solo no.1 back in August 2000 following a remix.

2nd place Nelly Feat Dani Stevenson-Hot In Herre [14.29%] (5 out of 36 votes)

A distant second but his best performance in one of these, we have Nelly. Hot In Herre was a huge no.4 hit in June 2002 paving the way for more big hitters.

=3rd place Sean Paul-We Be Burnin’ [41.94%] (13 out of 32 votes)
=3rd place Adele-Chasing Pavements [41.94%] (13 out of 32 votes)
5th place Elton John-Are You Ready For Love [37.04%] (10 out of 27 votes)
6th place Usher-Burn [27.27%] (9 out of 33 votes) TIE BREAKER [60.00%] (3 out of 5 votes)

1st place Sugababes-Freak Like Me [59.46%] (22 out of 37 votes)

Congratulations to Sugababes! Another win for them here with their Gary Numan sampling Freak Like Me cover. A new start for the girls, this was the first single of their second era, on a new label and featuring new member Heidi Range who replaced Siobhan Donaghy. It couldn’t have gone better with this hitting the top spot in April 2002 and holding off the S Club Juniors, the Sugababes were truly a force to be reckoned with now. Pleased with this result, what a classic.

2nd place Justin Timberlake-Cry Me A River [40.54%] (15 out of 37 votes)

Finishing second, it’s the second single of this round for Justin Timberlake. Allegedly about his well publicised break up with Britney Spears (which strangely occurred just before he launched a solo career), Cry Me A River was a huge no.2 hit in February 2003.

3rd place Ozone-Dragotea Din Tei [42.42%] (14 out of 33 votes)
4th place Rogue Traders-Voodoo Child [40.00%] (12 out of 30 votes)
5th place The Script-The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [32.50%] (13 out of 40 votes)
6th place Pussycat Dolls-Stickwitu [43.75%] (14 out of 33 Votes)
7th place Justin Timberlake-What Goes Around...Comes Around [34.21%] (13 out of 38 votes)
8th place Uncle Kracker-Follow Me [29.41%] (10 out of 34 votes)
9th place Mariah Carey Feat Westlife-Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) [57.69%] (15 out of 26 votes)
10th place X Factor Finalists 2009-You Are Not Alone [36.36%] (12 out of 33 votes)

1st place Nelly Furtado-Say It Right [81.82%] (27 out of 33 votes)

Very much a landslide win for Furtado. Well regarded classic Say It Right peaked at no.10 in Spring 2007 and has the lowest peak of any track that has appeared so far in these polls. It was the first ever song to chart in the top 10 that never got a physical release in the UK. Had it had one, I’m sure it would have peaked much higher.

2nd place Beyoncé-Irreplaceable [18.18%] (6 votes out of 33)

So close but way too far for Bey. Irreplaceable never got higher than no.4 after its release in late October 2006 but it was certainly and enduring and iconic hit.

3rd place Five-Let’s Dance [73.53%] (25 votes out of 34
4th place Big Brovaz-Nu Flow [56.67%] (17 votes out of 30)
5th place Jennifer Lopez Feat LL Cool J-All I Have [40.54%] (15 votes out of 37)
6th place Taylor Swift-Love Story Taylor Swift-Love Story [39.47%] (15 votes out of 38)
7th place Sisqo-Thong Song [33.33%] (12 votes out of 36)
8th place 50 Cent-Candy Shop [36.67%] (11 votes out of 30)
9th place Michael Andrews Feat Gary Jules-Mad World [23.53%] (8 votes out of 34)

I mean, that is by FAR and away the best song of what was a mostly horrible selection so that would have been a travesty otherwise.

1st place P!nk-Who Knew [51.72%] (15 votes out of 29)

The closest final of any of these I think! P!nk narrowly scores a victory with Who Knew. A no.5 hit from May 2006, the songs describes a friend P!nk lost to drugs as a teenager. Such an emotional song, it cemented the I’m Not Dead era as a success in the UK and is possibly my favourite from P!nk.

2nd place Kelly Clarkson-Since U Been Gone [48.28%] (14 votes out of 29)

Coming in a very close second is a song that also very much deserved to win. Kelly Clarkson took Since U Been Gone to no.5 in July 2005 and it always surprises me it didn’t leak higher. An enduring hit, it was the lead single from the American Idol winner’s second album, the million selling Breakaway. Two very similar, high quality songs here. Shame they weren’t in different rounds (like the lacklustre 27 list)

3rd place Christina Aguilera Feat Redman-Dirrty [60.71%] (17 votes out of 28)
4th place Duffy-Warwick Avenue [47.06%] (16 votes out of 34)
5th place Take That-Patience [39.39%] (13 votes out of 33)
6th place Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson-Movin’ Too Fast [35.29%] (12 votes out of 34)
7th place Jay-Z Feat Alicia Keys-Empire State Of Mind [32.43%] (12 votes out of 37)
8th Kelly Rowland-Stole [37.14%] (13 out of 36 votes)
9th place Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman-Somethin’ Stupid [45.45%] (15 out of 33 votes)
10th place Steve Brookstein-Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) [63.89%] (23 out of 36 votes)
