Jessica Ennis-Hill has retired from athletics at the age of 30, She was an two-time World Athletics champion in heptathlon, was the poster girl for London 2012 and won gold on 'Super Saturday'

She is probably one of the best athletes that Britain has produced.

What do you make of this news?

Who do you think is the best female athlete that you've seen and why?

Not a big surprise I suppose. It's hard to think of many (if any) better British athletes, regardless of gender.

She had a good career so she will go down in history, at least she can spend more time with her son now.

I cant think right now of who the best female athlete is but Florence Griffith-Joyner must be high up there even though she was before my time.

A great ambassador for the Olympics & athletics in general.

I don't know about her being a drug cheat, like I said she was before my time. Florence Griffith-Joyner has the world record for women's 100 m so for that reason she should be high on the list of greatest female athletes of all time.

Edit: She's even got the 200 m world record as well, she was very much the 1980's female Usain Bolt!

Not while there are reasons to believe that those performances were drug-assisted.

It seems like there's no concrete proof that she was on drugs when she won her Olympic gold medals in 1988 and she's not alive anymore to defend herself. She is the fastest woman to have ever lived and that can't be taken away from her right now.
