Jameela dancing in a chicken suit pretending to be Sean Paul whilst singing What About Us to appear in this one please

40. “last EVER Wednesday”
As many of us know, Jameela didn't just present the Official Chart on a Sunday, but also the Official Chart Update from 3:30-4 with Scott Mills every Wednesday. Her last show happened on the 14th January, with Matt Edmondson in for Scott. She explained that it was her "last EVER Wednesday". Part of me wanted to cry, another part laughed because without realising it, she's made a pun on her own catchphrase, "first EVER"
---------------------------------
39. Band Aid 30
Band Aid 30 was the 30th anniversary recording of the Christmas classic Do They Know It's Christmas?, arranged by Sir Bob "Motormouth" Geldof and featuring the likes of One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Jessie Ware, Zoella and Sam Smith on the track, as well as "WEST AFRICAAAAAHHHHHHH" singer Seal. Jameela seemed quite amused at the fact Seal was on the track, saying "nice to know that Seal's still around"!
---------------------------------
38. The Official Cart
We all have the occasional slip of the tongue, don't we? It's no big deal and most of the time it's forgotten about within seconds. One that particularly caught my ear, however, was Jameela saying "the Official Cart" instead of Chart. Just had images of shopping trolleys in my head. Fun times.
---------------------------------
37. MAGIC!
MAGIC!'s debut hit Rude was around in the chart for a long time, as we all know, and it was one of Jameela's favourites to take the mick out of, with many different comments each week, as you'd expect from her! One of my personal favourites, however, is "I wouldn’t want my daughter to marry him" The song is written as if the listener disagrees with the girlfriend's father in the song, but Jameela of course goes against that
---------------------------------
36. Alice Levine
Apparently, Alice Levine and Jameela sound alike. Not something I actually noticed myself but we'll go with the flow Jameela decided to blame Alice for any cock-ups she made by quickly saying "this is Alice Levine, in for Jameela Jamil, on BBC Radio 1". Oh Jameela
Forgot about the Seal one , The Alice Levine thing was so funny and I also don't think their voices sound a like. Cant wait for more Jameela moments
was just listening to R1 as I'm getting dressed and there's a chart competition to see Ed Sheeran, the question to get in was 'what was Ed Sheeran's first EVER #1?'
ha legacy lives on
it's still open for another few minutes, the answer is CHARTC if I remember right
So they are still doing the Wednesday update on R1? I wondered if they had scrapped it because now at the start of Sunday's show they refer to last week's chart. I guess they realised it was a bit silly spoiling the result at the top of the show.
Iconic:
35. Let It Go big note
There are a few points about Let It Go across the whole countdown, and the first of which is right here, in fact it comes from Jameela's final show on the Sunday just gone. As it got to the final chorus, Jameela said, over the top of the song, exactly what we were all thinking. Yes, that's right, "oh Jesus"
---------------------------------
34. "tens of thousands of singles have been bought"
The big #1 reveal at the end of the show always sees the chart presenter, Jameela or not, building a lot of unnecessary tension. Jameela often liked to reference the midweek #1, before reminding us that "tens of thousands of singles have been bought" since then. Who'd have thought it?
---------------------------------
33. Adam Levine
Just for pure lols, this had to be included. When talking about Maroon 5 one week, Jameela informed us that "Adam Levine scares me" YOU GO GIRL.
---------------------------------
32. Dangerous remix
Jameela was introducing Dangerous by David Guetta featuring Sam Martin in her second last week on the chart, saying that an official remix exists featuring T.I. and Chris Brown. After this, she made the remark "just what we need on the radio, MORE Chris Brown!" Ohhh the truth tea!
---------------------------------
31. SCREAM
Jameela discovered a scream sound that she could play during her second last week, which got an extremely amusing use in the opening instrumental of All of Me, summing her feelings of the track up quite succinctly...
Here's your 40 through to 31
31. Playing the scream sound at the beginning of All of Me
32. “just what we need on the radio, MORE Chris Brown!” – Dangerous remix
33. “Adam Levine scares me”
34. “tens of thousands of singles have been bought”
35. “oh Jesus” – Let It Go big note
36. Blaming Alice Levine for any mistakes she makes
37. “I wouldn’t want my daughter to marry him” – Rude
38. “The Official Cart”
39. “nice to know that Seal's still around” – Band Aid 30
40. “last EVER Wednesday” :’(
I HATED the scream sound at the beginning of All Of Me. I hoped all week she wouldn't use it again on her final show.
Jameela actually says "tens AND thousands", which is completely wrong
From my experience, she's said both
30. Let It Go...again
Let It Go hung around like a fart in a lift in the top 40 (more on that later) and it left us all wondering when it would leave the top 40, Jameela included. "I'm really keen to see if this song lasts longer than I do", she said one week What makes it even more amusing though is that it actually left the chart WITH Jameela !!
---------------------------------
29. Mistakes
It's almost as if Jameela has seen this countdown before, she said in her final week that "mistakes have become my niche" The funny thing is, she's right It's why we love her
---------------------------------
28. Anaconda
Nicki Minaj released the second single from third album The Pinkprint last year, a song about big butts called Anaconda. Jameela picked up on this of course, as well as Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass being #1 at the time, and pondered "I wonder if someone out there’s first word is BUTT"
---------------------------------
27. Travie McCoy
Thanks to his feature on Olly Murs' Wrapped Up, Jameela told us every week where we might know him from - his song Billionaire with Bruno Mars as well as being part of Gym Class Heroes. However, on her final week, she added something a little more juicy - the fact that he's had "sexy times" with Katy Perry
---------------------------------
26. Mariah Carey
IIIIIIIII DON'T WANT A LOT FOOOOOOOR CHRISTMASSSS
Yes, Queen Mariah Carey slays the charts every December with her classic, anthem of a generation, All I Want For Christmas Is You. There may be some silly people out there who prefer The Pogues and their 19p promotional tactics, but Jameela knows who's best. She described AIWFCIY as "everyone’s favourite Christmas song". G'won, Jam *.*
Oops I did forget this Let's continue...
25. James Bay
James Bay won the BRITs Critics' Choice award for 2015, and this was being discussed by Jameela and Matt Edmonson on the Official Chart Update the week Hold Back the River entered the chart. This conversation happened:
Matt Edmonson: he has another song, called Let It Go, don't worry Jam, it's not that one
Jameela: I panicked.
---------------------------------
24. Wench
In Jameela's last show, new host Clara Amfo claimed that Jameela could sing! To which Jameela replied "You’re a liar and a wench! Speaking of wenches, here’s Taylor Swift!" and played Blank Space
---------------------------------
23. Sing
As well as it being Ed Sheeran's first EVER #1 Sing became a huge long runner for Ed, partly thanks to streaming. Jameela picked up on this and described it a couple of times as hanging around like a "fart in a lift"
---------------------------------
22. Jealous
mr_aly favourite, Jealous by Labrinth, proved to be a good source of Jameelaisms, and I've clumped them all together for this countdown. Firstly, Jameela recommended that people hug their sofas while the song is on During another week, she mentioned that it's a very emotional song and if you're going through a break-up, you should "go for a wee, on me". Realising what she just said, she quickly said "NO, NOT ON ME, that came out wrong!". Oh Jameela Also, let's not forget her own rendition of the track - "I'm jealous of Lorraine", where she thinks of Lorraine Kelly. Awww.
---------------------------------
21. IDINA AGAIN
Yes, Jameela doesn't like Idina Menzel, I know you all get that by now It brought many Jameela moments though, including this rather fabulous quote: "well done Idina, you have broken some kind of record out there, for the most amount of weeks in my official chart, although it's not even mine, it's yours!". They missed a trick not renaming it to "Jameela's Official Chart feat. Idina Menzel" tbh.
Here's your 30 through to 21
21. "well done Idina, you have broken some kind of record out there, for the most amount of weeks in my official chart, although it's not even mine, it's yours!"
22. “HUG YOUR SOFA” // “go for a wee, on me, NO NOT ON ME, that came out wrong!” // “I’m jealous of Lorraine, then I think of Lorraine Kelly” – Jealous
23. “fart in a lift” – Sing
24. “You’re a liar and a wench! Speaking of wenches, here’s Taylor Swift!” – Clara claiming Jameela can sing
25. re. James Bay
Matt Edmonson: he has another song, called Let It Go, don't worry Jam, it's not that one
Jameela: I panicked.
26. “everyone’s favourite Christmas song” – Mariah
27. Travie McCoy – Billionaire and Gym Class Heroes (and “sexy times” with Katy Perry)
28. “I wonder if someone out there’s first word is BUTT” - Anaconda
29. “mistakes have become my niche”
30. “I'm really keen to see if this song lasts longer than I do” – Let It Go
Oh and have we all seen the news that Jameela is participating in the COMIC RELIEF BAKE OFF???!!?!?!!?!!!!!
I VETO MY NAME BEING MENTIONED IN THIS COUNTDOWN.
Jameela doing Bake Off!!!1!!! *.*
Just say the next part of the countdown and love the fart in the lift moment and the James Bay comment I remember that fondly
Also when is Jameela's episode in the Comic Relief Bake Off being aired?
You haven't forgotten about this, have you JosephStyles?
I haven't actually! I've been quite distracted recently though so it hasn't been a priority. Resuming soon ~
Half of these aren't even remotely amusing?
Well sorry Mr Fun Spoiler.
20. Night Changes
In her last week, Jameela played One Direction's Night Changes in the top 20, making the following comment on it: "reminds me of when I used to wet the bed as a child". Thanks for the anecdote
---------------------------------
19. CHART SAVIOUR John Legend
Our lord and master, the chart saviour himself, John the Legend, has been DOMINATING the charts for the last year with his monster hit All of Me. Jameela noticed this huge longevity, commenting one week that it had been in the chart for 47 weeks, before adding "I feel like I haven't even been ALIVE for 47 weeks"!
---------------------------------
18. Thinking Out Loud
Another case of a song with huge longevity, Jameela said of Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud: "I don’t remember a time before this was in the chart"
---------------------------------
17. Jameela's favourite catchphrase
We all know Jameela loves a good ACTUAL, and one fantastic use of it was when she mentioned that we were listening to the "ACTUAL official chart"! Why was it not renamed to this officially???
---------------------------------
16. Hozier
Jameela interviewed Hozier in her final week, speaking to him about the success of his huge hit Take Me To Church. She asked him about his Grammy nomination and if he had any plans for a speech, before stating "you can’t just get up there and FART!" - wise words there tbh. I can confirm that Hozier did NOT get up and fart. Not that he actually won the award. So who knows really.
What is it with Jameela and farting? I feel like that was an ongoing motif
I'm loving Jameela on Room 101 with that funny thing on her head
ACTUAL canoes !!
New section coming tomorrow, but here's an article Jameela wrote when she found out she got the job as chart presenter!
(let's pretend this is the Tuesday just gone)
15. David Guetta
David Guetta is 47 years old, not old by any means but older than many chart artists these days, especially artists that Radio 1 support. Jameela decided to troll David in her last week, saying "David Guetta's like 75 years old, it's AMAZING that he's still in the chart!" just before she played Dangerous! Afterwards, she then mentioned that people moaned about her comment, so she added "I know that’s wrong...he’s actually 80"
---------------------------------
14. Ghost
Now we all know that "first EVER #1" has become an iconic Jameela catchphrase, and it ended up being more fun when you could predict who she'd say it about. One week, she mentioned that Ghost was Ella Henderson's "first EVER #1" - all the more fun when you see it coming
---------------------------------
13. Steal My Girl
Jameela's never-changing fact sheet meant that every week, before she played One Direction's Steal My Girl, that 1D were the second artist to get "one BILLION streams on Spotify", after Coldplay
---------------------------------
12. "former #1"
Stating that a track was a "former #1" on its own doesn't sound particularly amusing, as it's just a simple fact. Jameela liked to mention this for EVERY song that was a "former #1", every single week It was about the only fact she had for Calvin Harris' Blame most weeks LOL
---------------------------------
11. "former track of the day"
In a similar vein to #12, this was a fact Jameela repeated for many songs, although mostly new entries. The funny thing is, most songs that enter the chart were former tracks of the day
Here is your 20 through to 11
11. “former track of the day”
12. “former #1”
13. “one BILLION streams on Spotify!” – One Direction
14. “first EVER #1 single” – Ghost
15. "David Guetta's like 75 years old, it's AMAZING that he's still in the chart!" // “I know that’s wrong, he’s actually 80”
16. “You can’t just get up there and FART!” – Hozier Grammy acceptance speech
17. “ACTUAL official chart!”
18. “I don’t remember a time before this was in the chart” – Thinking Out Loud
19. “I feel like I haven't even been ALIVE for 47 weeks” – All of Me
20. "reminds me of when I used to wet the bed as a child" – Night Changes
Ready for the Top 10!
After 22 weeks, this thread is still here!
In honour of Jameela's favourite song, Let It Go, the countdown just cannot reach the top 10
omg, I'll finish this off over the next couple of days, so sorry guys! Completely slipped my mind
10. Ella Henderson
We all know Jameela made many mistakes when it came to announcing songs, but for poor Ella Henderson, she announced the wrong song of hers...twice! Glow was announced as #29 one week when it was in fact Ghost - Glow had dropped out. Yours was also announced as #38 a couple of months later, and yet again, it was Ghost
---------------------------------
9. All About That Bass
All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor became the first song to chart in the top 40 entirely on streams last year. Jameela included this in one of her commentaries when introducing the song, although she made a slight slip of the tongue, announcing it as the first song to chart "based purely on screams"
8. The Fox Song
In Jameela's last moments on the chart, she was discussing some novelty songs that appeared within the chart with Clara, and mentioned "the fox song". Her diction, however, wasn't entirely clear, and everyone in the studio apparently gave her startled looks thinking she'd just said "fuck" on national radio "I definitely said fox, just to be clear!"
---------------------------------
7. Let It Go
More Idina Menzel now, her last appearance in the countdown Idina brought Jameela to breaking point with her endless run in the top 40, with Jameela declaring "YOU BROKE ME, THE UK!" - classic Jameela
Let's pretend I've not been a massive flop with this and get it done
6. Meghan Trainor
Meghan again, and aside from charting based purely on screams, Jameela liked to remind us that this is "the song about the bum", and also stated that Meghan was "obsessed with her bottom"! Cheers for that, Jam x
---------------------------------
5. All of Me
CHART SAVIOUR John Legend was a staple in the chart during 2014, and Jameela made good use of this by declaring that it was "my song for cake". I can genuinely imagine her miming along to this passionately, to a slice of cake
John legend is not a chart saviour.
He's the chart murderer
All I see is blasphemy here x
Interestingly Jameela retweeted me a little while ago when I mentioned I couldn't think about 'All of Me' without thinking of her revelation of singing it to a pizza
That John Ledgend thing
Gonna do the top 4 in one post so I'll be flopping no longer x
4. Taylor ACTUAL Swift
This is the part where I put a disclaimer and say that I didn't order the list (Riser the independent adjudicator did *.*) and therefore this isn't high due to bias In Jameela's last show, I texted in asking her to use "actual" within an artist's name, so when it came to play Shake It Off, she introduced it by saying "this is Taylor ACTUAL Swift, that was for you Joseph!" *.*
---------------------------------
3. Lee being shaded by Jameela
Another Buzzjack related one now, and our very own Lee Wallace sent in a tweet hoping that Calvin Harris would be top 5 with Outside. Jameela read it out, commenting on how Lee mentioned top 5 and not #1, saying "you’re not shooting as high as you could there" Poor Lee, "HAVE MORE FAITH!" x
---------------------------------
2. Cheryl vs. Ed Sheeran shoutout battle
The final Buzzjack related one, where loads of us tweeted in and got shoutouts from Jameela as to whether we were supporting Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud or Cheryl's I Don't Care for #1. Dan, Bray and myself all tweeted in, and Bray's was particularly memorable, saying he would eat his socks if Ed wasn't #1. That never actually happened so can we not let Bra forget Jameela was enjoying the battle going on too
^ listen to that and the Lee moment through this handy Soundcloud upload that Dan made x
---------------------------------
1. RACCOON
I did a last minute switcharoo of the #1 actually because I feel this was a moment that just has to take the crown. Jameela was singing along to a particular song (can't remember which one oops, can you shed any light Jordan?), before commenting afterwards "that wasn’t me singing by the way, that was a raccoon that broke into the studio". The sheer randomness of naming a RACCOON had me in hysterics and the idea of Jameela battling with a racoon in the Radio 1 studio is rather amusing.
Here is your #40 through to #1
1. “that wasn’t me singing by the way, that was a raccoon that broke into the studio”
2. Dan, Bray and Joseph’s tweets read out by Jameela - Cheryl #1
3. Lee’s tweet read out by Jameela - Calvin top 5, “you’re not really shooting as high as you could there”
4. “this is Taylor ACTUAL Swift, that was for you Joseph!”
5. “my song for cake” – All of Me
6. “obsessed with her bottom” // "next up is the song about the bum!" – Meghan Trainor
7. “YOU BROKE ME, THE UK!” – Let It Go
8. “the fox [fuck] song” – final moments of the show
9. “based purely on screams” – All About That Bass
10. Ella Henderson - Glow at #29 *plays Ghost* // Yours at #38…actually it’s Ghost!
30. “I'm really keen to see if this song lasts longer than I do” – Let It Go
40. “last EVER Wednesday” :’(
And a final message from Jameela: "BYE EVERYONE, I LOVE YOU, I DEFINITELY SAID “FOX” JUST TO BE CLEAR"
Let It Go is in that #30-21 recap, something tells me it was that
I never listened to that Soundcloud track with all the tweets on before, hilarious how everyone got involved! Jameela's reaction to Lee's tweet is incredible!
Great winnner I loved it when she did that Racoon moment
Here's Jameela's final show moments in audio form again (had to re-upload it as it got taken down for copyright)
omg Dan you are AMAZING for re-uploading that *bookmarks it again*
