Welcome to the final results for the 156th Buzzjack Song Contest. It's been lovely hosting for a second time and it's finally time to find out who will be the winner of this edition! #Let'sgoladies

The results will begin very shortly (in around 15 minutes time). Unfortunately, no late votes were received from Conoria or Utopia so there are 62 countries votes to come.

About to remember what it's like to follow a final results thread without having a song in it again for the first time in a while rooting for Altyr or Thelonia out of those named as contenders (though I continue to manifest a Neliönoir dark horse)

I didn't have Thelonia down as a contender at all but on reflection it was a very good contest to send it to with the oversaturation of pop so I could definitely see it now. Would be a long long overdue win for them anyway.

- Neliönoir place in our medal positions for the first time and do so in style with a gold, surpassing their previous best of 9 points with BAMBII last contest
- Lotunia's medal tally for us now stands at 2 golds and 3 silvers
- Altyr Muunilinst's medal tally for us now stands at 1 gold and 2 bronzes; this is their joint highest points ever for us, after we also gave 13 to Ramin Djawadi in BJSC 91 (though Monarchy was 1st for us in BJSC 36 (12 points at the time))
- Yehesi earn their highest points to date from us, surpassing the 8 points for IAMX in BJSC 91 (though Deorro was also 4th for us in BJSC 67 (7 points at the time))

After the first semi-final listenthrough I thought both of the AQs were decent but didn't think either was too likely to be in my final votes - in the end, both of them are, with Quintessa's in particular proving to be a huge grower over the course of the contest! Rolloland's entry was also a big grower (one of 2 songs that missed out on points from us in our semi-final but makes it in for the final alongside The Spodic Empire, though unfortunately the reverse is true for Republic of Adonia which while still a diet banger did see its novelty wear off a little on repeated listens oop)

(definitely at least a couple of other times too, I think Lookylion were the last to do it - it's not particularly rare for AQs to come last since they don't have to rely on getting through a semi)

Woot! Fantastic winner, well done Kath - on blistering form recently and RontBet did at least get this right.

Fab for Cadelicia to get second too, a great entry. And Hendinia was very solid pop too, surprised to see it out on top of the pop entries but a few were a little overhyped - some by me (sorry Wow and Cody) and some by others (Altyr never sounded as big as suggested, as lovely as it was). As always, we learn the lesson that over saturation of pop will always lead to a few falling by the wayside a little due to the sheer choice pop voters have to vote for. So we end up with only a couple in the top ten.

Happy to see an immediate top five return for Aeroche, and to see Bronzil and Ben’s Sanctuary finish top 20 with my top two discoveries this month <3

Once again I cannot believe how well 'Strawberry Jam' has done. It feels so good to be back in the top 10! Now I have one secured for 2023 I feel a bit more relaxed about sending something more left-field next month. Thanks again to all who voted for Waterbaby - the double sets of 18s were the highlight of this evening for me *.* looking forward to seeing who was a fan in the jury. Elsewhere in the top 10 I voted for Kathaldazia, Aeroche, Neliönoir + Cumulonimbia so pretty good going.

Congrats Kathaldazia fab track and cool video, did kinda wish it was a bit longer but it doesn't make it any less great for me.

Pleased for Cadelicia too, my 4 pointer but that sounded big for sure so wd on winning the jury. Wasn't too crazy on Hendinia's, was fine enough but the rest of the top 10 is all good. It would've been a commiseration had I done them which I didn't for once this time but happy to see Ben's Sanctuary top 20 after underwhelming success since their return.

Worst final result for me in 18 months boo. Not quite the song I felt deserved it really but it was bound to be the case sooner than later.

Wow that was a massive jury win for Cadelicia to rise all the way to 2nd!! Mildly a shame it knocked Thelonia out of the top 3 but they were next to each other in my votes (7 and 6 points), so either way one of the two would have been the only one of the top 3 I voted for, better to have that be 2nd than 3rd I suppose ~ Cadelicia now joining the 'multiple silvers with no golds' club though gah! Just as Kath leaves the 2 win club, all the people getting a 2nd win recently seem to be very rapidly following it with a 3rd does no one want to stay with me on 2

Congrats to Kath for another pretty big win anyhoo (as has been clear for a while but you never know), I wish the song would have clicked with me a bit more but hey I gave 18 to your last winner at least! This one is still solid, was ranked 22nd for me, that's just quite low by the lofty standards of Kathaldazia entries. Definitely here for more Kath hosting if you will be up for returning to hosting duties again so soon

The jury dropped me down to only voting for 5 of the top 10 but that's still not bad, really pleased that Neliönoir smashed their previous best out of the water here in particular. A bit sad that Yehesi missed out so narrowly with what is maybe my favourite entry ever from them and likewise Altyr also with one of their best but yanno #brercurse. Donna Missal's previous entry also came 13th so I guess that is her unlucky number

Beaverdonia top 15 is also a great result, Lotunia barely avoiding the bottom 10 in the end though the absolute tease of the early results.

well done Kath - it just missed my votes but a good winner once again, with very nice hosting from St. Burbia Great to see my 18 in 4th, I was really captivated by Dimension's bopping there, great result for Thelonia. Trifoski not doing too badly either, great for the hyperpop rep

also very happy to see all of the songs I called to do well (and I always like to shout out contenders that I feel haven't been mentioned enough in the odds thread when I do xx) taking up the spots from 3rd-6th only a few pop songs were going to do very well and Hendinia was the obvious choice there

Congrats to Kath on yet another landslide win *.* This one peaked on first listen for me hence the drop in points compared to the semis, but still a great song and one that just about made it in to my votes so not one I can complain about!

It wasn't a particularly strong final for me and I DNQed so I've sadly not been the most engaged here, but very pleasing to have four of my top 6 smash as well. Strawberry Jam sounded like a Bjork and Kate Bush lovechild and was an instant winner so pleased to see it connect to others as well, Kalyna was a big favourite from last year so was tough for me to rank, but it still sounded amazing amongst this field and not surprised at all to see it smash, I hesitated trying at the time as it sounded so big and a certain veto. Fantastic to see Nelionoir get a big hit as this one was easily their best so far and an instant earworm, guess Lotunia could've used my 18 more given it was pretty close </3 Still, not much to complain about overall.

Absolutely thrilled that we managed to nab a top 20 placement (our first in a good while!) What a triumph of a comeback. Thank you to everyone who voted for Hushkanukia. It was fab getting back into BJSC and obviously sending pop perfection with Kiana. However, with the summer holidays coming to an end and me going back to work, I will once again be bowing out. Who knows, maybe Hushky will make a return again before summer 2024? ✌️

Technically 278 points for Rhys - Too Good To Be True (Altyr Muunilinst 100) although BJSC 100 warps those stats due to using the 18 point system in the semis - ignoring that contest the highest is 186 points for The Naked And Famous - Higher (Cor Lupus 87). (Adjusting the points from the BJSC 100 semis to the 12 point system Rhys got the equivalent of 145 points).

According to https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1wl7mHfUetWDq7jOD9uFi7?si=8145933c977b4172, it is the shortest at least out of those available on Spotify, surpassing Nora En Pure's 'Wetlands' (2:24). There are a few missing from the list though and not sure if some songs might have had shorter versions linked in the contest so can't say 100% for sure without digging into it more but probably yes.

My twelfth time finishing 3rd *.* King of bronzes, and this has really exceeded expectations for me. Top of the pop songs with 5 18s and a third top 3 of the year, not bad going!

Not surprised at Kath winning again. Definitely got those feels from first listen and one I voted for, so happy to see it and well done! Hooray to Cadelicia and Thelonia too, both stand outs that deserved to rise to the top.

Again, shocked @ Lookylion missing top 10. Would’ve expected that swapped with my own end position. Great contest and great hosting!

Fun stats: this is Thelonia's first semi-final win doing so with their 71st entry. There are 5 countries who have entered more times without ever winning a semi-final (East Rukahavian 103, Singerpurear 101, Tartford 97 and more surprisingly Dobago 78 and Oslol 76). Only 2 countries before have taken longer to get a first semi-final win - another surprise that that record is held by Trifoski who didn't win a semi-final until their 86th entry (DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ et al. in BJSC 136), while Harmonica did it with their 83rd entry (Still Corners in BJSC 147).

Altyr Muunilinst, on the other hand, get their 12th semi-final win which ties them for the third most ever. FSR Rontvia also have 12, Hendinia have 13 and Aeroche lead with 16.

Congratulations Kath on another win! A brilliant discovery from your chart which I've enjoyed for 2 months - the song which pipped it in my votes is one I've enjoyed for 13 years, but an awesome victory for my silver! That's 2 contests in a row where the winning song has made my personal chart pre-contest (would be 3 as I charted Snow Strippers without realising it was Kath's entry in the opposite semi) - I must have some taste, even if it doesn't always extend to my own entries! I'm also very pleased to see Dan and Jade back in the top 10.

Happy that Picture Parlour ended up 21st (I knew I'd lose the tiebreak and I'd bumped up Singerpurear's points in my final vote as well), although 17 voters in a final is my joint fewest (and only 7 votes in the semi, the fewest of the top 25 but still enough for 16th!) - I feared it would fall between two stools as too slow/hoarse/depressing for some and too mid for others, but it's genuinely my favourite song of the moment and I'm delighted it found some fans here! Thank you so much Jacob for the Aelandor gold a second to go with FSR Rontvia's, as well as the 12 from Pete, 9s from Meekul and the host, and 5 & 4 from Lotti & Sam.

Pretty good top 5 there with 2 of my 3 faves featuring and only one I didn't vote for.

It took 76 contests to finish 19th and just 2 later we've landed there again, best finish of the season matched.

That top 10 is much more to my taste than usual *.* Go_A and Dotter round out the top 3 nicely, and I'm thrilled for Dimension top 5 and twst top 10. Congrats Neliönoir on your first top 10 too!

Very impressed with the rebound for Ben's Sanctuary, coming back from second-to-last if I remember correctly. Lotunia, on the other hand, being the opposite and very front-loaded, undeserved. Shout out to Dobago who actually sent a long-lost potential of mine, I was never quite convinced it'd be worth sending so I'm glad to be proven wrong!

41st is genuinely my best result of the year so far, so thanks to all who pointed 'Scenario'! I hope to keep up this momentum and get a long-overdue top 40 next time

I'll agree that St. Burbia was underrated, I couldn't rank it high enough for points but it sure didn't deserve last either. Seems like a great use of an AQ anyway! Thanks again Ben for hosting

This is the first contest where I have been around for some of the listen-throughs and results — it really does make a big difference. I wasn’t completely sold on BJSC tbh but that was my fault for not properly engaging in it until now. It’s useful to know about the power of the different blocs… although I really thought ‘Harvest Heartbreak’ was going to win listening to these, clearly I know nothing.

A great top ten. ‘Strawberry Jam’, ‘Magic’, and ‘Off - World’ have been on repeat all week.
