Before Christmas, Nelly Furtado shared some footage from her recording sessions with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. Now the singer hits the studio with Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Nas) to record the follow-up to her multi-platinum English album Loose, due next summer. “It has a real classic sound to it, a sound that’s really authentic, super soulful,” says Nelly.

Ok, sounds interesting, looks like she is going back to her Folklore root.

6 years too late love drama.gif I do hope she doesn't just do Loose part 2 and expect to get away with it, though by the sounds of it it'll be Folklore part 2, which I'm happy with. Still can't see that working particularly well commercially but as long as they're not as bad as the Best Of tracks...

I hope it's a Loose Part II rather than the I'm Like a Bird/Broken Strings type stuff.

I kind of wish she released an album sooner. If she'd released an (English) album every 2 years, she'd have remained as one of the biggest pop girls in the world, like she was during 2006/2007.

Also, this article:

QUOTE
Nelly Furtado is prepping for a major comeback in 2012, teaming up with songwriter Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins on her forthcoming album.
In a new behind-the-scenes clip from the 33-year-old star, she talks about her strong connection with the Grammy-winning producer. “This is my first time working with Rodney Jerkins,” she says. “I only met him about six weeks ago actually. We hit it off creatively. We definitely speak a creative language together and it’s really fun working with him.”

Furtado also praised Jerkins for his “amazing pop sensibilities” and prodigious piano skills in below video, which she posted on her website on Dec. 23. According to the singer, the duo has recorded 10 songs for the new release, which is slated for a summer release.

Recently, Furtado debuted a new song called ‘Mystery,’ and promised fans she would be hitting the road for at least two years to promote her new LP. The full-length was originally going to be called ‘Lifestyle,’ but the singer has since changed its title, and says she’ll be revealing the new album name “in the coming months.”

Furtado’s new effort will be her first English language release since 2006′s ‘Loose.’ In addition to Jerkins, the Canadian star has reportedly collaborated with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Tiesto and Timbaland and Nas on the project.

Here's the song Mystery:

I'm pretty sure the Nas collab is true. Nelly said on Twitter last year (or early this year) that she did a song with him. And she talks about him again in that video in the OP, and she's working with one of his producers. I really hope with Timbaland she can make another smash like Say It Right or Maneater.

I just want a good solid pop album from her, similar to Loose, where you had the dance tracks but then songs like All Good Things which were reminiscent of her past albums, and i liked Night is Young and Girlfriend In This City from the best of.

You were the only one. I'd love an album like 'Folklore' (who wouldn't) but we're not going to get that with Darkchild or Salaam Remi.

I didn't mind Night Is Young but it's not the right sound for her at all. The other new tracks on the GH were definitely awful though.

I think Stars is amazing. Although it wasn't really a new track as she had been performing it when she was touring Loose.

She's missed the boat on this one, almost the dictionary definition on how to squander a glittering career. Shame really.

Nelly who?!

It may work out for her, but with the line up of Nas and Timbaland is a bit of a time warp. We're almost in 2012 Nelly! It's been SIX years!

I don't see how a break like this can squander a glittering career? Surely the music is what counts.

Just because Rihanna has been relentlessly visible for half a decade doesn't mean everyone has to do it. It's her choice to release music and do it in any way she sees fit.

I don't know what I'm looking for from Nelly Furtado more - the Folklore pt.2 or Loose pt.2. Folklore is much more unique but Loose is just absolutely brilliant from the beginning to the end. One of my all-time favourite albums.

I'm a bit conflicted. What I love about Nelly is that she's great at shifting styles each album but maintaining quality, but I also want another Folklore laugh.gif But I agree with Tony actually, as long as I good it doesn't really matter I guess.

Night Is Young had great verses, but as soon as the chorus hits, it is all just so limp which is a shame because half a great song is most certainly there. I hope that she can pull off another 'Maneater' but I think she has most certainly missed the boat entirely.
