Homo Sapiens’ – Will Young and Chris Sweeney in conversation

LONDON PODCAST FESTIVAL 2017
Spoken Word / Saturday, 16 September 2017 - 9:30pm / Hall Two
Online Price: £20 | Savers £9.50*
A £3.00 booking fee will be applied to all ticket bookings. An additional fee of £1.50 is applied if you wish to receive your tickets by post. Fees do not apply to bookings or ticket collections made in person at the Box Office.
Join singer and actor Will Young and film maker Chris Sweeney in conversation about their new hit podcast Homo Sapiens.

Inspired by BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, the series includes a series of celebrity guests discussing an eclectic range of LGBTQ+ subjects, topics include the representation of gay people on TV, being LGBTQ+ in the army, the relevance of Pride, living with HIV and much more. Each weekly episode will feature Will and Chris ‘in the studio’ introducing their interview, reflecting on broader LGBTQ+ issues that come up with each guest, responding to listeners who have tweeted the show, and asking listeners via Will’s Twitter for their opinions on their conversations. All this comes with a healthy dose of random chatter about what is going on in their lives or what items they are bidding for on eBay.

Will and Chris said: ‘As Woman’s Hour super-fans, we adored the 70th anniversary celebrations late last year – the presenters were looking back at how their programme started and how pioneering it was to show current affairs from a female perspective – this sparked a conversation between us about the LGBTQ+ community and how great it would be to have a similar voice. It was a real lightbulb moment and the idea of Homo Sapiens was born! Through recording this podcast, we’ve had a lot of fun, drunk a lot of tea, and learned a huge amount from some of the bravest, most intelligent and fun people who have paved the way for all LGBTQ+ people.’

‘The surprise hit of the summer…it’s a riot!’ Evening Standard ES Magazine
‘absolute podcast naturals!’ Radio Times
‘the perfect podcast raconteurs’ The Guardian
‘Hugely enjoyable listening’ Financial Times
‘Begs the question…why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?’ Mr Porter (#2 in Podcasts You Really Need to Know About)

Please note that latecomers may not be admitted due to the event being recorded.

Yes very clever, although the guests are members of the LGBTQ+ community, the topics discussed really speak to everyone regardless of their sexual orientation & Chris & Will are natural presenters.

Today's podcast guest is Matthew Todd author, playwright and former editor of Attitude. Should be a good one and a change for Will conducting the interview instead of being interviewed for the mag. Will was also a guest editor around 2011 I think.

Thanks TT. I enjoyed seeing the little video clips of the photoshoot with them in costume too.

How strange, the pic above of Charles Hagerty has gone ginormous mucking up the sizing of the thread.

Hi Truly Talented & other Will Young fans,

I've combined the latest tour/interview threads you had into this thread. Please continue to use this for further talk about Will or adding more interviews and tour details within this thread. You can start a separate chat thread if you want but don't overwhelm the forum with it.

If Will releases another album, you're welcome to start a discussion thread for that in Pop, or if you feel at any point you'd be better suited in Pop let me know and I'll move you over.

(I can also change the title for this if you want, I changed it on the fly)

I'd seen in the Darius forum there could be a problem with using the Retro Lounge and thought you were contemplating pop after all. wink.gif I'd much prefer Pop, I think it's really out of place on Retro!

Leave right now: Will Young labels Theresa May’s Conservative government a ‘shitfest’

Singer Will Young has laid into Theresa May’s Conservative government in an exclusive interview with PinkNews.
The Leave Right Now singer criticised the government over a deal it made with the DUP, which opposes LGBT rights in Northern Ireland.
In bold new comments, Young labelled Theresa May’s DUP deal “disgusting” – saying it puts LGBT rights at risk.

Will Young, 38, told PinkNews: “The DUP I think, I mean that whole things a shitfest isn’t it – the sooner the Conservatives get out the better.”
The singer, who is currently promoting his LGBT podcast HomoSpaiens, said Theresa May’s deal left him furious.
Asked if it was unacceptable that Theresa May had allowed the DUP power, he told PinkNews: “Yes! I think it’s disgusting.
“I think it’s opportunism from the beginning to the end that election and I think it shows stupidity actually.
“I mean bringing things like fox hunting to the forum.
“I could’ve done a better job at that election, and I’m an idiot. They seriously let themselves down at that election.
“They showed their true colours which is quite often a sense of entitlement and arrogance. Listen, you can’t polish a turd can you?”

However the singer would not be drawn on who he backs for PM.
He told PinkNews: “I’m actually bi-partisan. What I have enjoyed is a rise in young people becoming more politically minded.
“I think it’s quite easy for people to say ‘screw the system’. And we all enjoy doing that.
“But there has to be something behind it.
“I think the navigation of mainstream media by Labour was and is really exciting.”

The openly gay Pop Idol winner has launched his own LGBT podcast in recent months.
HomoSapiens is intended to be a new LGBT version of Woman’s Hour, hosted with his friend Chris Sweeney.

Brilliant, I didn't realise you'd linked this important interview where Will talks about his PTSD prior to taking part in Strictly.
