Liverpool suffered a setback in their bid to reach the Europa League knockout stage as they lost 3-2 in Toulouse.

Aron Donnum opened the scoring after dispossessing Kostas Tsimikas in a dangerous area, and Thijs Dallinga doubled the Toulouse lead.

Liverpool pulled one back through a bizarre own goal from Cristian Casseres Jr, but Frank Magri restored the French side's two-goal advantage.

Diogo Jota scored for Liverpool with two minutes left but it was too late.

Brighton boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League with a comfortable 2-0 win over a youthful Ajax side in Amsterdam.

Ansu Fati opened the scoring for the visitors with a low effort into the bottom-left corner after collecting Simon Adingra's pass.

Fati then turned provider, as Ivory Coast winger Adringa doubled Brighton's lead with a rising close-range effort.

Another great win for Brighton cheer.gif

The once-mighty Ajax have now failed to score against Brighton in three hours of football. Every other opponent this season has managed to score at least once in half that time.

The result means Brighton should finish at least third, thereby remaining in European competition into the new year.

Third place or better isn't quite guaranteed but it should happen.

I would have said Liverpool should be shoe-ins to win this competition but after tonight I'm not so sure! mellow.gif

They are prob favs but only due to the club and history it’s most likely be a team like Seville!

Fans are hoping for Liverpool vs Leverkusen instead of the classic Milan vs Liverpool I love to see that. Alonso's managerial career looks really good so far, and a match against one of the teams that made his name would be great.

Surprising result! Perhaps luckily for Liverpool away goals don't count like they used to anymore.

It’s strange a mid ranking team nearly always wins the Europa League, it’s rarely the favs from the biggest leagues.

Don’t think away goals matter if your 0-3 down and have to go to Italy Houey! Just worry how it’ll effect our remaining games, can see us imploding now on Sunday too!

We were well beaten, no shame in that. Don't think I have ever seen a team play man marking like that so well.. ever? The better team won. Would say it will be incredibly difficult to get a result from here on-in, but not impossible. I've seen us play way worse under Klopp, as we started the game well, so not sure about some of these pieces with the "worst ever Klopp display". Some people have short memories as I've seen loads laugh.gif

No England representations either in the UEL semi either, leaving Aston Villa alone at UECL!
