I quite like Yungblud's song but I'm not sure it needs that long on the playlist.

Pretty boring new additions today but for once I can't see a huge selection from which they could have added stuff (Guetta/Sia aside obvs).

I started to think they might be starting to snub Sigala in the way they eventually got rid of Jonas Blue from the playlist, but glad that isn't the case!

Woo for Master KG! Can’t believe it’s taken this many years for an Afro House song to have even a tiny bit of airplay/success here. South Africa has SO much wonderful music that is criminally ignored internationally.

Sigala's been on the playlist since 2015 so I'd say it's only a matter of time before that happens anyway tbh.

Dance acts like Sigala, Kygo and Jonas Blue never last THAT long usually anyway especially when their sound doesn't evolve much.

Why are IDLES still in the C-List when they are coming for the number one album today? Must be not on a major label.

Posted by: gavindeejay Oct 2 2020, 09:24 AM

It's a shame it's looking like David Guetta has had his time on the playlist for now, but could return in the future if he has a track with a big Radio 1 artists of the moment.

Posted by: Bjork Oct 2 2020, 09:28 AM

but that's sad that Sia or Guetta can only get playlisted if they feature on a younger artist's track
Sia needs to do another Zayn ft Sia or similar

Yep, they're signed to Partisan Records

Yeah, because Zayn's really in with R1 right now laugh.gif

(in fact that Sia collab is the last time he was on the A-list lol)

I think Sia will surely be playlisted when she releases a proper album again?

Though I suppose, that's if she does and if she hasn't left it too long.

I really don't think she will, I think if anything she's already a R2 artist.

Her singles this year are from a new album (of sorts - it's the soundtrack album to her upcoming film Music).

Sadly I agree
Although it's hard to tell what's a proper single with Sia, she releases so many random stuff

That's true of so many artists these days though

Loving Wonder by Shawn Mendes- I think it could be pretty big.

Several of her older songs still gets R1 daytime airplay every other day so I don't think they're done with her yet.

Guetta x Sia not doing anything yet... Spotify promo awful, not on R1's playlist here. unsure.gif

Posted by: ADDY! x VKTM Oct 2 2020, 12:38 PM

yess at Jerusalema wub.gif

Was hoping they'd snub the abominable Sigala/James Arthur collab drama.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Oct 2 2020, 02:22 PM

Its pure cheese but as ever I like Arthurs gravely vocals lol.

Not overwhelmed with the adds this week - have checked them all out on (insert streaming service here). Think I said before that songs feel bigger when I've heard them on daytime radio (if I don't they feel like b-sides or album tracks - if I like a track I'm more likely to start loving it when it feels 'big' and communal) but now Capital Dance is in my life lots of dance tracks R1 don't bother with outside of the specialist shows are about to seem huge! I'm normally 80/20 between Radio 1 and 2 but this is looking like a gamechanger, hope they actually publish their new music playlist. Might be a bit crappy when the ads inevitably come in though. Wish Tap In, Kyoto and yes even Model Village weren't stalling. You really have to be in the right place at the right time to hear these C-C-C-OUT tracks, and once they're gone you'll never hear them on daytime R1 ever again!

Quick question - do you hear many B-list stallers on there once they're gone? I've only heard a very small number of things played as recurrents, which tend to be things that were on the A-list for a thousand years. Maybe someone could make a comprehensive list of massive hits the station played reluctantly, like WAP, Savage Love, Dance Monkey and Cheerleader (whOooOoOO).

Also, this 'what's a proper single' thing. Someone said today they couldn't tell the difference between Sia's promotional and proper singles. This is especially true of dance acts who are constantly chucking low-key stuff out there. Everything was so much easier when a single was a single and almost everything of note was a Top 40 hit, but there's no going back!

I am surprised but glad that Jerusalema has been added to the playlist, lovely song with an emotive vocal like the Paul Woolford track. Also reminds me a bit of Cheerleader which was mentioned in the previous post.
