Thanks dandy* for the 10 points and congratulations for winning the contest with a wonderful song by Yellow Magic Orchestra.
I Pity Inanimate Objects got mainly big scores or nothing at all so thanks to all those who appreciated its oddness. I'm very pleased with a top 5 place. Thanks Chez for hosting, this was a great theme that produced some very interesting entries. |

Omg that was amazing reveal.
Congrats Dandy, much deserved winner than Goldie (I was aware of being borderline cheap lol), but in all seriousness so happy with 2nd placement…also for keeping Top 10 placement for all 5 contests so far <3 So happy Jade managed to jump Top 3 as well, that was amazing discovery. And Chez, amazing job hosting and wonderful theme <3 |

The first winner of these retro contests not to have spent at least 4 weeks in the Top 75 congrats dandy*
Hard luck Addy for coming so close - 'Inner City Life' is a classic, I had to debate how many points to give it alongside new discoveries and halfway between 0-12 felt about right, though the winning song didn't quite make my votes, so my vote as a whole didn't change the outcome. My prediction was correct - so my 2nd/4th/6th/11th/16th place finishes in retro contests collection is complete. Nothing unlucky about this though, I only have myself to blame for not properly thinking through whether enough people would want to vote for my entry. Hope it hasn't put anyone off JAMC, I did consider instead sending 'The Hardest Walk' which has a toned-down sound but would probably still pass as experimental, and is my favourite track from Psychocandy - though as I mentioned that album in this forum recently I thought I'd better not send it, but guess I wouldn't have been the most identifiable entrant... so in summary I flopped quite badly here, but I'll come back. Thank you Chez for the enjoyable hosting! (and apols for my lack of enthusiasm for your entry, all those 20+ minute BJSC entries have not done wonders for my patience it seems ) |

Thank you all very much for following and the kind words! I'm sorry my timing went a bit over at the end, but these things always dominate my evenings (or maybe I'm a perfectionist idk x)
I didn't vote for either of the top 2, but there wasn't a single song I didn't enjoy here to some extent so I just liked them a bit less than the songs in my votes. I did want to reward those that really sounded off the wall and odd as they fit the theme the most, and I'm really pleased to see the likes of Godley and Creme (forgot to acknowledge that 12 swap *.) and Negativland finish in the top half as they were great discoveries. I'm very happy with 10th for myself (and only a few points away from 6th!), I'm just really glad I got to share this song somehow and it went down so much better than I hoped. I would highly recommend the 1001 songs... book/playlist on Spotify if you don't already know it and are interested in exploring further experimental music, it partly inspired this theme (there's an additional 48 minute song for you to enjoy ) Looking forward to whatever the next theme is here x |

Sorry I went silent at the end, I am indeed incapable of multitasking xx
Stopped reading just before getting my only 12 thanks very much !!! and that's an especially proud gold to get based on your comment at the end of your votes! Also loved your entry of course, that was another one I was very much looking forward to seeing who was behind it although in retrospect I definitely should have known it was yours immediately lmao. Alas snubbed by the rest of the votes after that and collapsed back to the bottom 5 but still my 2nd most successful entry (by points and jointly by position relative to last lol, I've been bottom 5 in 4 out of 5 contests but 5th from last in two of those x), so could be worse. Thanks also to Julian for the bronze medal and Ansel, Jester, Chez, Jade, John, Whoddy, Jim, Cow and Rollo for the other points (was a bit of a 4 magnet x). I did give low points to both of the top 2 there, ranked Goldie slightly higher of the two but I do actually prefer to see YMO winning for feeling a bit more fitting to the theme (although I didn't like this song quite as much as 'Rydeen', still good though), many congrats to Dandy for a first win. Very pleased that there was a big last minute surge to the top 3 for Autechre though *.* and great to see The Electric Prunes in the top 5 as well, plus Pet Shop Boys, Negativland and Th' Faith Healers all lining up just inside the top half! I didn't really put too much effort into finding my own entry, was just a case of searching the word 'experimental' on /r/listentothis and listening to the first few results but yeah, I found one I was happy to send pretty quickly from that search, a somewhat unorthodox structure feat. ear candy guitars + 2 different nice vocal sections, what's not to love x Thanks Chez for hosting, was a very fun edition |

very sad Unravel didn't do better
might not be Bjork are her most experimental but it's one of her most beautiful songs actually Thom Yorke from Radiohead I think he said it's his favourite song ever love how the second verse is exactly same lyrics as the first verse, not many songs can pull that (Mr Brightside, Ben Howard-Oats in the water) also love how she pronounces "heart" in the 2nd verse, rolling the r so strong The lyrics are beyond incredible also about how distance causes heartbreak because you miss the person |

Just caught up… woopI’ve been pretty terrible at these contests so far so delighted with 4th! Pleased to have been the 60s psychedelic representation in this. Thanks for all the votes and especially John for the maximum. That’s my first Top 10 despite there having been fewer than 20 participants in most of them.
Thanks to Chez for the brilliant hosting, and sorry I didn’t point Gavin. I thought it would be incredibly moving as part of an art installation but not so much one to listen to at home. Many congratulations dandy*. The Yellow Magic Orchestra track was a stonkerand my favourite of the top 3, though Godley & Crème was my favourite of all! |

I know I don’t really host things any longer but I think I will actually try to do so for the next round of this. It’s comparatively low in participation so should be more feasible for me to do it

Finally catching up - congrats dandy! I was never that keen on the Eric Clapton version but hearing the YMO version was a nice surprise.
Very happy with 9th place. I did think some would be surprised it was me who sent Th' Faith Healers. And a 12 from Bre! Which I'm certain is the first time this has ever happened! Looking forward to the next one |

This contest theme was not the most suited for me. I appreciate being able to take part and I hope my entry by Cybotron was not deemed cheap (based on a popular sample that came AFTER this original release) or not experimental enough, but most of the songs just weren’t for me I’m afraid. I applaud those who really thought outside the box, especially the winner from dandy, but I hope maybe the next theme will be a little more interesting.
Thank you Chez for hosting too. |

LOL I love you Wardy but you can really be very scathing without meaning to be sometimes! x
It was a brilliant and inspired theme choice - it just didn’t generate music that was to everyone’s taste. But that’s much better than us all sending different variations on 90s dance every time. Long may the challenging themes continue I say! |

Congrats dandy, really nice entry that grew after a few listens and had it in my head a fair bit post-voting. A more fitting winner than Goldie perhaps despite my slight preference for the latter, I assume that just landed on the right side of the veto line unlike my first attempt of Voodoo Ray (a fair enough veto which I didn't even think to check whether it had charted before). Can't at all complain about the performance of my eventual entry however, one I had tucked away in my potentials playlist for a little while now.
Would have liked to see Gina X & Benyamin a bit higher, the latter especially was clear highlight to me Always enjoy a Chez hosted contest, a fine job once again! |
