He (or any other alt artist) successful chart-wise... just look at 90s charts where most of indie/alt/etc acts made UK top 40 (Placebo, Oasis, U2, Foo Fighters, Bjork etc). Now none of them are going to scrap top 20, nah, I don't see them even inside top 100. I'm talking about singles chart.... But you know all of that.
