BuzzJack Music Forum _ AF Idol Archive _ AF Idol Spin-Off 2.0 • THE RESULTS

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 06:14 PM

Join us at 7pm as we reveal the full order of the results for the 2nd AF Idol spin-off!

A reminder of the methodology:

- The number of voters for each song in each round is divided by the total voters, to give a fair figure of how each song performed in each round that isn't distorted by the varying voter levels.
- An average for each artist was then calculated and the artist with the highest average is our winner!

Will Nina Nesbitt or Everything Everything get the wooden spoon? ohmy.gif

Posted by: Dill Doe Mar 21 2021, 06:23 PM

Flopence laat due to Klers' flops, Gwen 2nd, Kesha 3rd, Miley 1st, and the rest in the middle.

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 06:29 PM

I’m expecting a Gwen win- Nina last

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 06:44 PM

i think nina/everything everything probably last and gwen for the win! foregone conclusions!

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:00 PM

14 0.29 Nina Nesbitt [Cameron]

Unfortunately the wooden spoon goes to Nina Nesbitt, as despite a great attempt from Cameron to showcase both her fabulous albums and some collaborations too, the lack of familiarity went against Nina and she couldn't quite do enough to avoid last place.

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:02 PM

Gwen is defo winning! I think there'll be a battle for the top 3 between Florence, Miley, Kesha and Katy B?

Posted by: JackTheeStallion Mar 21 2021, 07:03 PM

Ciara is going to be lucky to come top ten sad.gif.

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:04 PM

13 0.32 Everything Everything [SevenSeize]

I'm sure Seven didn't expect more than last place when entering Everything Everything, so I'm sure this will come as a pleasant surprise to him! Another that surely suffered from lack of familiarity for many, Seven nonetheless did a great job at showcasing the varied discography of the popular British rock band.

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:05 PM

Both fab artists and loved their entries!!! Nina has so many gems I loved seeing showcased- I think a lot of Everything Everything’s best wasn’t even submitted!

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:07 PM

12 0.38 Gabrielle [vibe]

I'm gutted about this one! I started this contest only knowing a small handful of songs by British R&B and soul legend Gabrielle, but I made some really brilliant discoveries in terms of both singles and album tracks! Naturally, Gabrielle's best round was the final round, where her classic hit Dreams was sent.

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:08 PM

Both were fighting an upwards battle but I loved nearly all of the entries sent by each! Cry Dancing was particularly one of my biggest discoveries from the contest.

Desire should have been entered tho sleep.gif

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:09 PM

Gabrielle sent some fab entries too, adore her voice. Fallen Angel was a great discovery.

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:10 PM

Gabrielle is one I don’t think is for me- she didn’t place in my top 7 once unfortunately sad.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:11 PM

11 0.39 Demi Lovato [Calum]

Disney star turned pop superstar, Demi Lovato has been a continued consistent presence in the charts for many years now. Through AF Idol, Calum showcased some of her biggest, including Cool for the Summer, Heart Attack and Jax Jones collaboration Instruction, as well as album track anthems, but sadly it wasn't quite enough to make the top 10.

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:12 PM

It’s a shame for Demi! She has tons of great songs but some are a little screechy for my liking (which is why i’m
glad Sorry not Sorry wasn’t sent in!)

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:13 PM

Demi is not really my kind of thing aside from a few exceptions (Cool for the Summer wub.gif). Body Say was excellent though, it must have passed me by on release.

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:14 PM

I do think Gabrielle could've potentially have done a little better if we'd got the original "Rise" in the first round! But an expected bottom 4! Congrats to the discoveries they've shared and it was fun getting to know each more, especially EE who is quite my type of thing but I'd never given the chance!

Posted by: MrAndrewMan Mar 21 2021, 07:14 PM

Nina deserved better cry.gif Made some great discoveries from her (especially 'Peroxide'!)

Demi was a little bit half & half for me, loved some of her entries but didn't think much of the others.

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:15 PM

10 0.45 Donna Summer [George.keh]

The queen of disco herself, Donna Summer was a surefire bet to do well with her big hits including the classic Hot Stuff and the revolutionary I Feel Love, but George.keh managed to showcase a wonderful selection of her discography to show variety and deep cuts that I hadn't personally heard before! Some great discoveries were made, thank you!

Posted by: Cameron Mar 21 2021, 07:16 PM

non-cheap artist version next time please x

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:17 PM

Well at least she made top 10!!! Go stream State of Independence for clear skin!!!!!

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:17 PM

Donna wub.gif Regardless of where she placed, SUCH a good choice and one that I'm glad people are getting to know.

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:18 PM

9 0.47 The Beatles [Jade]

The fab four, the legends themselves, and of course one of Jade's favourite artists of all-time, The Beatles had high expectations to meet in this round despite a potential uphill battle considering Buzzjack's typical tastes! I was pleasantly surprised by the entries I heard, Jade did a superb job of showcasing variety and I particularly enjoyed hearing Here Comes the Sun, thank you for surprising me!

Posted by: HausofArgento Mar 21 2021, 07:19 PM

I think Demi is the biggest under-performer for me. I thought for sure she had a lot of fans on here ohmy.gif

Donna was a great choice from r George and she did decently~

The Beatles <33333 gotten really into their albums just before this and so these rounds kept me going with them! So much goodness in their back-catalogue.

Posted by: Jade Mar 21 2021, 07:19 PM

9th is better than I would’ve expected for The Beatles when I first entered them! Happy with that cheer.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:20 PM

Jade did very well with this I think, picking someone well-known but not particularly well-KNOWN by the casual listener - it was a good shout!

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:21 PM

I was thrilled Jade managed to enter some of my favourite Beatles songs wub.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:23 PM

8 0.50 Ciara [Jack]

One of the artists I was most excited about appearing! Dubbed the first lady of Crunk&B, Ciara burst onto the scene in 2004 with her smash hit single Goodies and has continued making great music since, though its success has been very varied. Jack showcased some of those lesser known gems among the bigger hits and I know many discoveries were made with tracks like Overdose and Livin' It Up!

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:23 PM

Appreciated The Beatles entry! They deserved more than one vote from me!

Posted by: SevenSeize Mar 21 2021, 07:24 PM

WE DID IT BOYS

It's been great fun playing as the 'odd one out' here (and even getting a 5th place out of it!), I implore you to check out their entire discography if you liked what you heard, it was tough cutting it down to just 8 entries!

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:26 PM

7 0.52 Jessie Ware [Leww]

Into the top half now with a Buzzfave. Jessie Ware's been a critic darling since her debut album Devotion came out in 2012, and particularly again last year with fourth release What's Your Pleasure? as she embarked on a new electronic sound. Lew made some fantastic choices to showcase the different sides of Jessie's career and I really enjoyed her choices as someone who's previously been a casual fan!

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:27 PM

Ciara’s not really my type of thing but I’m sad I couldn’t get round to voting for her in one round as she was definitely close in a couple! Some strong album track rounds and 1 2 Step is a big highlight.

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:28 PM

Ciara's not usually my type of thing either but to be honest it was a BOLD choice from Jack as R&B is not the general fan-fave so honestly? An 8th place is smashing it!

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:28 PM

Jessie! heart.gif Only missed out at the end with 'Wildest Moments' but that is a fantastic song just in a very strong round! 7th is good for someone not known as a Buzz favourite!

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:28 PM

Jessie wub.gif wub.gif

Glad she could manage the top half, I feel I adore his discography more and more. SO many strong songs entered but so many more that could have also been entered. Was particularly great to see Midnight Caller get lots of love!

Posted by: MrAndrewMan Mar 21 2021, 07:28 PM

Made some great discoveries from both Ciara & Jessie, great entries from both of them! wub.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:29 PM

Thank you guys for top half wub.gif Exceeded my expectations going into this as she definitely seemed like one of the least famous / fanbase artists so thank you for some surprise results!

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:29 PM

I was SO please to see The Kill snatch a win and glad she’s managed top half!!! Midnight Caller was a FAB discovery for me!

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:30 PM

6 0.53 Ava Max [MrAndrewMan]

Having only one studio album to her name didn't stop Ava Max from putting in a really strong performance throughout. In fact, she achieved a 2nd place position with Born to the Night - not even one of her well known hits! MrAndrewMan picked wisely to give Ava her best shot among a selection of more established artists, and this is what I'd call a very strong outcome!

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:31 PM

As much as I would say it's an odd choice (considering I don't think many people would've made massive discoveries from her) it was obviously low-key a very smart choice, and amazing that she beat 8 other artists with only one album of material. Only on Buzzjack! laugh.gif

Posted by: SevenSeize Mar 21 2021, 07:31 PM

i'm glad Overdose was picked for Ciara, one of the best songs i've heard from her, maybe just behind Body Party!

great that Wildest Moments got its moment to shine in the final! that and 110% are still my favourites from Jessie, summer 2012 nostalgia y'know~

Posted by: elgornio Mar 21 2021, 07:31 PM

Top 5 time !!! Fingers, Toes and everything else crossed

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:32 PM

Ava seemed to do really well on the album track rounds- and rightfully so some brill tracks! Shame Naked never got submitted

Posted by: MrAndrewMan Mar 21 2021, 07:32 PM

Very happy 6th for Ava considering how small her discography is compared to some of the other artists. cheer.gif

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:32 PM

Ava Max was an audacious choice! Did she do well? Yeah. Did I discover anything? nope thinking.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:33 PM

5 0.59 Florence + the Machine [Klaus]

Winning the first round put Florence in a really good position going forward, and a final position of 5th is a testament to Klaus' excellent choices. I've never been a gigantic Florence fan but some of my favourite discoveries across the whole contest were by Florence - so thank you! Intriguingly, it's the final round that let Florence down - perhaps a different song could have clinched a higher position? ohmy.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:34 PM

Well done Klaus! I'm not a maaaassive Florence fan but you seemed to have hit the right choices that you needed to - well done!

Posted by: HausofArgento Mar 21 2021, 07:36 PM

Ava was a difficult one. My favourite tracks were chosen by her but having only one album was a bit "listen to this album and you will hear ALL THE MATERIAL" so it wasn't as exciting as the others having to choose between eras and periods in the artists' careers thinking.gif

Florence ohmy.gif a bit of a DISASTER and a FLOP for r Klaus. Would have been top 4 if Meekul was in charge rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:37 PM

Only if 'Only If For The Night' was entered!

Must agree with the final round flop, Florence had a 100% record for me before that!

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:37 PM

Definitely happy with that, and that she won the first round! Happy to also turn round some let’s say ~not so big fans~ with some of the choices wub.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:38 PM

4 0.62 Katy B [Kath]

Every artist remaining spent over half the duration of the contest in a medal position! British dance singer Katy B has a series of hits under her belt, including huge Buzzfave Crying for No Reason, but it wasn't just those singles that did the heavy lifting - Kath's wise choices for the album track rounds (including Aaliyah) secured Katy B as a win contender. In fact, she's only 0.05 off the #1 spot ohmy.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:38 PM

Well done to Katy B and to Kathy B wub.gif Divas ASSEMBLE

Posted by: HausofArgento Mar 21 2021, 07:39 PM

Katy B wub.gif What a discography!

Love that all eras were represented too. Kath played an blinder clap.gif

Posted by: Jade Mar 21 2021, 07:40 PM

Amazing choices from Kath! I didn’t think Katy B was a massive favourite of mine compared to others entered but I voted for her in almost every round *.*

Posted by: Klumzee Mar 21 2021, 07:41 PM

Katherine B! heart.gif Kath played a blinder to get her this high! I didn't realise how popular she was on Buzzjack!

Kesha top 3 wub.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:41 PM

3 0.62 Miley Cyrus [Josh]

Firstly, just to say #3 and #4 aren't tied, they've just rounded to the same number! That said, Miley really did sneak this #3 spot by a hair. With one win and six (!) medal positions, Miley's actually the most decorated artist in the whole competition, but sadly a couple of the album track rounds really damaged her score. Nonetheless, Josh picked well to secure some great scores, from classic Wrecking Ball to the recent Midnight Sky!

GWEN STEFANI vs KESHA - place your bets!

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Mar 21 2021, 07:43 PM

GREAT Top 2. Miley was a good choice too considering what a great era she's having at the moment, shame for no PITUSA!

Posted by: George.keh Mar 21 2021, 07:43 PM

Shame about the weak round but every other round was a spectacular choice!!!

What a discography

Posted by: Klaus Mar 21 2021, 07:45 PM

Yasss Katy! Definitely a perfect selection of choices from Kath. Was so happy to finally see I Wanna Be get some proper recognition!

I think Miley could have easily won with some better album track picks! Some great single choices though, I was surprised at how often I voted for her.

Posted by: HausofArgento Mar 21 2021, 07:45 PM

I think Miley smashed her singles choices but there were some questionable album track picks :'( also no early Miley representation </3 'Fly On The Wall' deserved x

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:48 PM

2 0.63 Kesha [Klumzee]

Losing out by a whisker is American pop icon Kesha, who was one of the artists I was most excited to see entered. Known best for her trashy pop tracks, Klum managed to show off her big hits including TiK ToK and We R Who We R, alongside the stunning Praying and some album track bangers as well. She most definitely performed the best in my votes of any artist, even if Die Young wasn't sent! pirate.gif Interestingly, without the final round, Kesha would have won! ohmy.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:48 PM

1 0.67 Gwen Stefani [elgornio]

Here we are then! Winning HALF the total rounds, it's not surprising to see Gwen reigning supreme. elgornio picked wisely, showing off Gwen's biggest solo hits as well as a couple of No Doubt classics! The album track rounds were a little bumpier, but the iconic choice of What You Waiting For? in the last round sealed the deal. Congratulations elgornio, enjoy your shiny widget!!!

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 21 2021, 07:49 PM

Kesha the winner before the final round drama.gif what an incredible back catalogue she has - particularly her album tracks! I wish 'Love Into The Light' got the chance to shine, but I think Klumzee played the game PERFECTLY and i'm so happy she smashed it.

Well done to elgornio and Gwen! heart.gif

Well done Gwen/elgornio!! cheer.gif

It was great that a couple of No Doubt songs we also able to be entered!

Very well done to Kesha too. A great couple of album track discoveries (although Cannibal was a bunch of noises x), I was surprised at how the singles didn’t really hold up for me (never liked Blow though, especially with the Red Drips memories sleep.gif), although Take It Off would have likely got a vote from me.

Posted by: elgornio Mar 21 2021, 07:52 PM

Omg !!! I’m honoured !! I’ve always loved Gwen and I’m so happy to have shared that with you all!! I said in my opening paragraph that nobody does pop music like Gwen Stefani and I guess I was right !!
Now to celebrate everybody go stream her brand new song Slow Clap

Really chuffed with 8th seeing as R&B isn't too favoured on BuzzJack!

Gwen is a fantastic winner and appreciate they didn't always go for the most obvious choice too!

Can’t wait for an all winners season in 10 years time so I can come back and show CRJ how it’s done

Posted by: Chez Wombat Mar 21 2021, 08:39 PM

Congrats to Gwen & elgornio! Wasn't that sold on the album tracks, but she has some golden singles (and even more that weren't sent!) so it's not too surprising. Kesha and Miley I made some very good discoveries and re-discoveries from, the former in particular had some great album tracks, I'd never really cared much for her as an artist before. Similar story with Ciara.

Thanks to the AF Inner circle for another fun round of this cool.gif

This has been amazing to just sit back and let you guys handle the pressure of trying to choose the perfect song to send at the perfect time etc... I've enjoyed this so much and I'm so, SO happy to see it's been a huge success! You guys all smashed it with your choices. I made some excellet discoveries from the likes of Nina & Everything Everything that I wouldn't have EVER found out about if it wasn't for this. Even the artists I'm more familiar with like Jessie W (The Kill wub.gif) & Demi (Lionheart wub.gif)... just great stuff.

We'll get back to the drawing board and tweak certain parts here and there for next time (we might have to add a "must have released 2 or more albums" kinda rule heehee.gif) but y'all smashed it with your artists! Even those that finished outside the top 10. Donna was a very, VERY brave choice. She's not as generally well known as The Beatles for example so for an artist who peaked long before like 90% of the people who voted were actually born, that was a very good result.

Thank you for the discoveries & we hope y'all will stick around near the Summer for AF Idol 3! heart.gif

(In the meantime, if y'all wanted to take part in Movie Forum Song Contest, just click my sig thank youuuu xxx)

This was great fun, managed to fit nearly every artist in my votes at least once and made so many discoveries along the way. Shout out to Gabriella, Ciara, Nina and Everything Everything who impressed me consistently despite their low overall finishes <3 Gwen is a legit legend and a totally rightful winner (didn't realize she'd won four rounds!), and I'm pleased to see Florence and Katy B in the top five too.

Posted by: coi Mar 22 2021, 01:20 AM

Enjoyed voting in these and seeing which choices were made for each round, every artist had at least one vote from me in the end. Great to have Florence and Katy B finishing in the top five, The Beatles top ten and Everything Everything avoiding last place. Thanks for running it!
