He's gets about a bit these days, doesn't he?
I'm thinking Maroon 5 is a couple of steps too far...haven't heard it yet though so I won't judge just yet :')

Apt title.

Posted by: Regina 12th October 2016, 10:05 AM

LOVE this. More instant than Maps or Payphone ever were tbh.

Posted by: Bjork 12th October 2016, 11:36 AM

worst thing they've ever done

Posted by: 24k Cody 12th October 2016, 03:43 PM

Were the original members even involved? This sounds like DJ Snake f/Adam Levine & Kendrick Lamar tongue.gif

Actually really good after a few listens.

Sex & Candy says hello.

I quite like it! They're often hit and miss for me, but this sounds different for them.

Posted by: Jonjo 12th October 2016, 11:12 PM

Very different for them. I like it, but I'm not sure if I like it just coz it's different for them (if that makes sense) because it's actually quite boring and doesn't really lead to anything good or original. Quite conflicted about this tbh. Best thing they've released since this Maroon 5 renaissance started for sure though.

Posted by: Conderella 13th October 2016, 05:41 AM

No

Posted by: Cremey 14th October 2016, 07:30 AM

Oh Kendrick, why have you associated yourself with this mess? 😳
It's like a cross between Let Me Love You and a nursery rhyme (which I annoyingly can't quite put my finger on). Hideous.

Why are they on this quest to remain relevant? This is so basic it's not even funny. Songs About Jane is crying in a corner somewhere.

12 years on it's still the best thing they've done by such a huge margin. Kind of disappointing really.

Lmao what trash

Because they, GOD FORBID, want to be successful? It's not exactly a bad thing.
I don't see why people rave about Songs About Jane so much either tbh, it's largely trash.

I'll have to agree to disagree on that last part, that album is beautiful and had a huge impact on me as a teenager.

Wanting to be successful is all well and good but for me they're compromising themselves. I didn't mind their shift towards poppy Max Martin music over the past 2 albums but this is a step too far IMO. It's completely basic and formulaic and not the Maroon 5 I bought into 12 years ago and have strongly supported since. This song pretty much outlines everything I hate about chart music today and it's worse when it's coming from one of my favourite artists.

I'll have to hear more music from any up coming album because I'm not here for 12-16 Justin Bieber reject tracks.

Three facts:

  1. 'Songs About Jane' is a wonderful classic album which was very well received at the time (unlike a lot of Maroon 5 stuff since).
  2. They haven't met the standard/quality of that album since (unfortunately.)
  3. They've been on a rather obvious and desperate quest for success ever since 'Moves Like Jagger' was a shock hit and made them big again. Not a criticism because I've liked a lot of their post-MLJ stuff, but the difference in their output is clear.

Posted by: Regina 16th October 2016, 12:05 PM

Those are opinions though, not facts.
I never took to SAJ and in my opinion their best album is either Hands All Over or It Won't Be Soon Before Long.
I don't see anything wrong with changing your sound to want to have some success, it brings a new generation
Of fans who might neve Have bothered if they were stuck in the past. Something new is better than being stuck 12
Years in the past.

Posted by: T Boy 16th October 2016, 12:08 PM

And yet I've enjoyed all of their output since the beginning despite changing sounds until this track so I'd hardly call myself being stuck 12 years in the past.

Thanks for that Miss Marple!

Posted by: Slick 16th October 2016, 12:13 PM

There is a difference between evolving your sound and chasing the current trends. Some people like it when their favourite artist chases current trends, potentially at the expense of the overall quality of the music. For others, it's a bit of a turn-off. It's one of the reasons music is so subjective and varied.

I never said you were though.

I don't think the quality has dropped though. It's a better song than Maps and A lot more instant
than Payphone was too. If the musics good then chasing trends isn't a bad thing for me.

The best part of this is Kendrik's rap. Shame it's so short

This isn't necessarily the worst thing they've done in recent years, but it's definitely the most forgettable IMO.
