Muse have just posted this on Instagram:

Seems to confirm the album title as 'Drones'. Hopefully means we'll be hearing something SOON. Excitement ~
Of things I was not expecting to see today....
I've been really coming round to The 2nd Law in a big way recently (especially Panic Station and Isolated System <3), so I am very much on board for more stuff.
Intriguing, though their teasers always are. Drones does sound like an extremely Muse-esque name doesn't it?
Excite nonetheless, I still don't think they've lost their spark - The Resistance was somewhat safe and The 2nd Law's experiments didn't always work, a middle ground between these two would make for a great album indeed!
worst band ever
I'm ready to be a-muse-d!
So excited
My favourite rock band
they peaked with black holes and revelations. i need to listen to their early stuff but everything since blackholes has been samey boring poo
I liked 'The 2nd Law', but it wasn't their best work. I hope this album is a return to form for Muse and can get them back in Radio 1's good books. Funnily enough they played 'Uprising' yesterday afternoon.
Also Showbiz! To a lesser extent but it's still great. There are just too many Muse tracks I couldn't live without at this stage, three at the very least from each album I'd say.
I do agree that they peaked with BHAR, but I've loved the following albums as well.
And since we're obviously going to do this:
01 Black Holes and Revelations (every single song bar Soldier's Poem)
02 Origin of Symmetry (Newborn, Bliss, Citizen Erased)
03 The Resistance (Undisclosed Desires, I Belong to You, MK Ultra)
04 Absolution (Time is Running Out, The Small Print, Fury)
05 The 2nd Law (Panic Station, Survival, Follow Me)
06 Showbiz (Cave, Sober)
01 Black Holes and Revelations - (Map of the Problematique, Exo-Politics, City of Delusion)
02 Absolution - (Hysteria, Stockholm Syndrome, Hurricanes and Butterflies)
03 Origin of Symmetry (Plug-In Baby, Bliss, Citizen Erased)
.
.
.
.
.
.
04 The Resistance (Undisclosed Desires, Uprising, MK Ultra)
.
.
.
.
05 The 2nd Law (Big Freeze, Animals)
06 Showbiz (Sunburn, Unintended)
Oh hell yes we're going to do this *.*
01 Black Holes And Revelations (Map Of The Problematique, Knights Of Cydonia, Supermassive Black Hole, City Of Delusion, Invincible, basically just every track)
02 The Resistance (Uprising, Resistance, United States Of Eurasia, Unnatural Selection)
03 Absolution (Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist, Time Is Running Out, Butterflies & Hurricanes)
04 Origin Of Symmetry (New Born, Bliss, Megalomania, Plug In Baby)
05 The 2nd Law (Panic Station, Supremacy, The 2nd Law (both parts))
06 Showbiz (Sunburn, Cave, Unintended)
ugh yeah, that I've already been praising the two bottom albums in this thread should say just how consistent I find them, especially after allowing their albums to grow on me.
Lots of details just emerged:
The album cover is a tad awkward
New song "Psycho" is being released on YouTube tomorrow
Actual 1st single "Dead Inside" out on March 23rd
Full tracklist is:
1. Dead Inside
2. [Drill Sergeant]
3. Psycho
4. Mercy
5. Reapers
6. The Handler
7. [JFK]
8. Defector
9. Revolt
10. Aftermath
11. The Globalist
12. Drones
And the album is out June 8th.
Apparently "Psycho" is going to be particularly heavy/unradio friendly, so curious what happens with that!
Even for them who aren't prone from going rather OTT, that sounds very...extreme for the most part. Excite though!
Can't wait for Drones, Muse have been consistently amazing with every album.
'Cause I couldn't resist:
01 Origin Of Symmetry (New Born, Bliss, Feeling Good, Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased, Map Of Your Head, Futurism, pretty much all of it)
02 Black Holes And Revelations (Map Of The Problematique, Knights Of Cydonia, Supermassive Black Hole, City Of Delusion, Invincible, Soldier's Poem, Starlight. Again, not really a bad track on this one)
03 Absolution (Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist, Hysteria, The Small Print, Time Is Running Out, Butterflies & Hurricanes, Eternally Missed)
04 The Resistance (Uprising, Resistance, I Belong To You, Undisclosed Desires)
05 The 2nd Law (Panic Station, Supremacy, Save Me, Big Freeze, Liquid State)
06 Showbiz (Sober, Cave, Unintended, Muscle Museum)
That album cover is fantastic!
The cover's great except for the title placing and font choice.
Oh, go on then...
1 Absolution
2 Black Holes And Revelations
3 Origin Of Symmetry
4 The Resistance
5 Showbiz
6 The 2nd Law
That's a really strange album cover, but very Muse.
That description of 'Psycho' has me buzzing. Perhaps something not exactly like 'Unsustainable' but similarly inspired hopefully?
I've just got tickets for them so I'm getting very excited for anything.
1. Origin Of Symmetry (so many memories attached to this album)
2. Black Holes And Revelations
3. Showbiz
4. The Resistance
5. Absolution (being honest, 4 and 5 are about level)
6. The 2nd Law
I can't wait for the actual single !
Not too sure that "Psycho" track will be my cup of tea though it it's too heavy.
Well, the album pre-order is up on iTunes now and "Psycho" is already available as an instagrat. All good because I didn't want to have to stay up another 2 hours for the R1 first play
Sounds a bit like Uprising actually, but lots of spoken word screaming/swearing.
So excited for this, I absolutely love muse
There be a lyric video!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqLRqzTp6Rk
(first 30 seconds presumably are "[Drill Sergeant]")
"Your ass belongs to me now."
- Matthew Bellamy
Sounds like something he'd say to Kate Hudson.
Psycho is absolutely amazing Already completely in love with it after 1 listen
That is pretty incredible and definitely the heaviest thing I can think that they've done. Great comeback.
Muse officially back to form *.*
Incredible stuff. And that guitar solo at the end is delicious.
Leaps and bounds better than anything I heard from their last album.
Welcome back!
Bless my soul! A good Muse song?
Liking this a lot. And to think I thought they'd lost it as the last two albums were just shit.
OK, some negatives: It sounds a little too similar to Uprising and the guitar solo feels kinda familiar, but conversely, that is definitely the sort of sound I love for them and this feels far more epic than most of the last album does. Really like the spoken word sections too, really add to the dark atmosphere of the song.
Psycho is great
The lyrics of this are a bit crap but it sounds good otherwise so (Y) Have to say I preferred 'Survival', unpopular opinion I'm guessing. Hoping the actual single will be a bit better.
Also they are seriously trying to out-Muse themselves with those song titles aren't they?
The is could easily have been on The Resistance. It's hardly a step forward for them - They've done glam-stompers before. It'll probably grow on me but it's still only average for them.
At least it's not total shit like whatever the introductory releases were for The 2nd Law.
Just heard "Psycho"... and it's AMAZING! It's like "Uprising" all over again Really excited to hear the album if it's a lot like how hard-hitting this was.
Bless them for being the only act to release a CD+DVD these days.
erm
That's probably the best lyric video I've ever seen, could pass as an actual music video!
The song is standard Muse, it really is 'heavy' like it was painted out to be and an almost direct copy of 'Uprising' (but somehow less good on first listen) to my ears. Like eyes, I also preferred 'Survival'; with all that said though, I love 'standard Muse', so I do like this and it'll probably grow!
I really like this, a great return to form for Muse. The lyrics are slightly questionable ("your ass belongs to me now"... really?) but musically it's great! I'm glad they're going back to their more traditional sound.
I'm not completely sold on first listen ('Uprising' was never a big favourite, and like others said it's very similar in sound) but it's a lot of fun. Album comes out the day after my birthday as well!
I don't get this sounds the same as Uprising.
Uprising still sounds like the Dr Who theme to me while Psycho doesn't.
It's the glam-stomper sound. They're from the same subgenre of rock, I guess.
Not that I'm an expert on sub-genres.
Actually I do get the fact that the rhythms being used are the same.
I just think Psycho is much much better.
It's less derivative, literally, because Uprising is 5 other songs put together. I just find Uprising a whole lot more enjoyable.
But I remember at the time it was released I was underwhelmed too. It's going to grow on me, for sure. I'm just not sure how much.
I can see the similarity but it's easily different enough to be a great song in it's own right. Uprising was better lyrically for sure but I really like that riff on Psycho, it seems more deliberate. And it's great to hear them return to a more bass heavy/ heavy rock sound.
Yes I like the heaviness of it too.
Really like Psycho. I'm really gutted I missed out on getting tickets to their tour next week.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if that riff comes back to haunt them after the Blurred Lines court case. In fact the whole thing sounds very much like this...
Joking aside it's the best Muse single since Uprising and makes me look forward to the new album with renewed hope.
To be fair, Muse have been playing what is essentially that riff live since around 1999
Muse are great for the first few times you see them. After 5 times it gets a bit underwhelming.
^Doubt it.
First time I saw them last night too. They were absolutely awesome, no other way to describe it, they played loads of their older stuff and I love that style, cannot believe I'm lucky enough to have heard Muscle Museum live. And Futurism and Bliss. Best gig I've been to, and I've seen some amazing artists live.
I hope you're right.
The first few times I saw them they blew my head off. And I have been to some amazing gigs.
5th time, less amazing. I was probably expecting too much,
I loathe you guys right now.
I'm so gutted I couldn't get tickets. Hopefully they'll announce a full Arena tour later on this year!
Dead Inside
Now that's more like it!
The synthy riff reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on.
I'm now totally baffled at how the album is going to sound. To add to this, I think Matt mentioned that "The Globalist" towards the end of the album is the 10 minute sequel to "Citizen Erased"!
Could see myself liking this one more than Psycho in the long run, just when the tune sinks in.
Thanks for posting that video Tony (if you hadn't, I just know the riff would have driven me mad!). I haven't listened to this in full yet because my internet's going insanely slow right now and I can't be bothered to wait for it to buffer, but the first 40 seconds or so sounded good!
Gah, I'll never not be able to not hear 'Who's That Girl' now.
This is very good though, based on these two songs I can already tell this era is going to be about 100 times better than The 2nd Law.
Muse are one of my favourite bands, so this is good news for me!!!
Dead Inside is okay enough but ultimately it just feels like something that could have been on The Resistance which in itself was already feeling like a collection of tracks that wouldn't have made the cut on Black Holes.
"Mercy"
I must say I never like it when all the previously released tracks are all at the top of the tracklist (as they've now put out the first 4 tracks and nothing else) as it makes for the most frustrating listening experience. Think I'll just hold off it (well apart from this one listen now) until the album is out. Small part of it is also reminding me of another song (which may or may not be Muse and that's bugging me
The new single sounds great! Liking the synths on this one. It works well.
I'm hoping the rest of the album is good enough too.
Sounds great, always like Muses material!
Just had a first listen. Pretty amazing. Infinitely better than the recent albums.
The [JFK] interlude has a nice purpose of dividing the album into two parts which have different vibes which is great for taking in the whole thing.
Defector and Dead Inside are my favourites so far.
No Resistanse/2nd Law shade pls.
Haven't heard this yet as I'm currently playing Florence non-stop.
I like Mercy, but it reminds me too much of Starlight for me to really get into it. I'm really hoping the album isn't as full of retreads of previous songs as this is suggesting.
Still love Dead Inside and Psycho though.
The verse for Mercy is great.
Downloaded yesterday. Will report back later today.
I only played this once last night. Defector has been on repeat all day and it won't let me hear the rest. Fan-ta-stic.
ikfr
Defector is so amazing. As are Revolt and Mercy. Very nice shiny new Muse album.
I like Aftermath at the moment.
Defector is slightly irritating with it's punctuated keychanges
