They've changed the dates for the Mercury Prize again with this year's shortlist being announced on Thursday (August 4).
That gives us just a few days to speculate on which albums will make it. Naturally, I hope Suede will be on the list this time as Night Thoughts sees them back at their best. David Bowie's Blackstar will surely feature and they may decide that they can't ignore Adele. |

Would love to see Suede nominated as it is their best since their opening trilogy; but I think it'll end up falling through the cracks on this occasion.
Bear's Den have a good shot with their new album, which is a real highlight for me, and of the quirkier releases I wouldn't be surprised to see The Comet Is Coming on the shortlist. Meilyr Jones would be great as well - '2013' reminds me of My Life Story & Divine Comedy in places. |

If Blackstar does not feature I will call foul. But if it does there will be cries of a sympathy nomination. I really think it deserves to be nominated. Radiohead might be nominated too.

I'm hoping Christine And The Queens get a nod.

Only UK and Irish artists qualify I'm afraid. The album was also released outside the time period. shame, cos I was in Square Records Wimborne today and they had the album on. 2 people asked who it was, quite interested in it - ah, just like the good old days when record shops promoted good music, made me all nostalgic, standing there amongst the vinyl 12", vinyl albums, vinyl singles and cd's.... |

Big yes at ANOHNI. Hopefully LUH get a nod too ~
Laura Mvula seems like a possibility.. Jessie Ware, Annie Mac and Jarvis Cocker on the panel too. Should be a good 'un. |

It has to be Hopelessness. Blackstar is wonderful but I hope they don't go down the posthumous route.

LUH need to win this. SSFLTS is one of the best albums of the year, without any doubt.

my favourite album of the year is Daughter's Not to Disappear but I guess they're not Mercury prize material :/
same for Tom Odell, or was he nominated for his debut? also like the Fightened Rabbit album a lot, but it's been much ignored by everyone :/ maybe PJ Harvey also gets a nod despite the album being a bit disappointed I really hope they don't nominate 25 just cos of the huge sales, it's a poor album not a patch on 21 that doesn't deserve the nomination |

Was going to suggest Emma Pollock but, yeah, Anna Meredith might be flying the flag / ticking the box for Scottish female artists...that's if Anna isn't black-listed due to precious Bowie "fans" crying about her arrangements of Life on Mars and Starman at the prom.
I'd love to see Malcolm Middleton get a nod and I'd love to see Adele (quite rightly) ignored. |

Out of ones that haven't been mentioned yet, Minor Victories and Yak have released great debuts this year which I think could maybe get nominated. Second albums from Eagulls and Teleman, whose debuts weren't nominated, were also pretty good as well.

My 15 albums predictions (inspired by Gigwise's 15 albums predictions list):
David Bowie - Blackstar Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool PJ Harvey - The Hope Six Demolition Project Daughter - Not To Disappear Michael Kiwanuka - Love & Hate Bat For Lashes - The Bride James Blake - The Colour In Anything The Coral - Distance Inbetween Underworld - Barbara Barbara, We Face A Shining Future The Last Shadow Puppets - Everything You've Come To Expect Metronomy - Summer 08 Viola Beach - Viola Beach Skepta - Konnichiwa Savages - Adore Life Roisin Murphy - Take Her Up To Monto I was going to add Foals' What Went Down and New Order's Music Complete to my predictions, but the Mercury Prize's main entry criteria for this year states that albums have to have a "UK digital release date between Saturday 26 September 2015 and Friday 29 July 2016 (inclusive)" in order to be shortlisted. What Went Down was released on 28th August 2015 and Music Complete was released on 25th September 2015 (the latter was put out one day too early).
