Sunday Chart Predictions
Predicting the 07/12 to 13/12 chart

Take That to (mc)bust some sale records?
Despite their previous single performing spectacularly bad (a chart run of 9-74-x), it seems that Union J's career will take a surprise U-turn as their new single 'You Got It All' seems to be the hottest contender for #1, due to their X Factor performance and taking advantage of low sales. However they'll receive competition from Ed Sheeran's former chart topper 'Thinking Out Loud' which has also experienced an X Factor boost after a contestant performed it. Blonde's 'I Loved You', featuring the vocals of Melissa Steel, and Ella Henderson's 'Yours' should also be a new entries to the Top 10/20, whilst we may see Mariah Carey and The Pogues' festive classic return to the Top 40.

It's a huge week for the albums this week as Take That's III - confirmed to have the most copies ordered by Amazon in their history - and AC/DC's Rock or Bust go head to head. Other new entries to the Top 10 may include McBusted's self-titled album and Kiesza's Sound of a Woman, with others further down including II Divo's A Musical Affair: Live In Japan, , Nico & Vinz' Black Star Elephant, Wu-Tang Clan's A Better Tomorrow. Also this week, Robbie Williams releases exclusively from his official site Under the Radar Vol. 1 and re-releases of The Vamps' and Sam Bailey's albums may send them back into the Top 40.

I doubt Kiesza will dent the top 30 sadly, although I bought it today. It didn't have a prime position amongst the new releases in HMV (in fact I had to look in the A-Z racks) and it's not the sort of thing that Xmas gift buyers will be picking up in force.

I'm interested to see Take That's sales, somewhere between 150-250k sounds about right.

Posted by: Dobbo 1st December 2014, 09:45 PM

2 great albums in SOAW & BSE going to do nothing sad.gif

Top 10 singles looking likely to be hideous again. At least there should be Blonde to save us all...

Posted by: girl_from_oz 1st December 2014, 10:23 PM

As I mentioned in another thread Union J may miss out on number one if it's tight as their single isn't available to stream

Posted by: Doctor Blind 1st December 2014, 10:37 PM

Union J quite obviously going to be #1 in the first midweeks - Ed Sheeran will get there by the weekend I expect.

Sales around 55-60K.

Band Aid 30 likely to fall out of the Top 5.

Prediction for Sunday:

01 (04) Ed Sheehan "Thinking Out Loud" (58K)
02 (NE) Union J "You Got It All" (55K)
03 (03) Olly Murs ft. Travie McCoy "Wrapped Up" (53K)
04 (01) Take That "These Days" (47.5K)
05 (08) Taylor Swift "Blank Space" (45K, [#3 on sales only])

Posted by: Aphrodite 1st December 2014, 10:47 PM

Reallly excited for midweeks and hopefully we get sales, im keen to see the new Take That album sell well.

Posted by: girl_from_oz 2nd December 2014, 01:54 AM

Take That's Greatest Hit's is their 99pm album of the week, so that will chart on Sunday, also they're giving one of the tracks from the new album away free, not sure if that will go towards the charts or not

Posted by: britster 2nd December 2014, 02:24 AM

Union J going to #1 on Sunday would be the second #1 in a row that wasn't playlisted by Radio 1.

laugh.gif and for that reason I hope Union J get it now!

Posted by: ElectroBoy 2nd December 2014, 08:50 AM

It is going to be an interesting race for the top - I'm guessing whilst UJ wont have the benefit of streaming, they will have larger than normal physical sales which could well aid them staying in front.

However will depend how sharply they drop off - they still managed to retain top 10 with Tonight (You Got it All) despite dropping to around the 20 mark by saturday/ sunday.

Twitter. Mint Royale

Union J are at number 1 on the midweek!

Take That sold 85,226 copies in the first day. AC/DC 43,654. Christmas figures!

Sam Bailey is flying up the album chart again in anticipation of her X Factor performance. Up to number 48!

But poor Kiesza. As predicted, sales that would have got her to 8 in the charts in October now only get her 25.

Posted by: girl_from_oz 2nd December 2014, 12:02 PM

There's a new Ed Sheeran song out from The Sons of Anarchy tv show

Posted by: andibob 2nd December 2014, 12:04 PM

I think it's more the re-release than anticipation for Sam tongue.gif

Posted by: MrIndependent 2nd December 2014, 12:04 PM

How much did Progress sell in its first day? It would be easier to predict a weekly number for III if we had information on how much pre-orders they sold. Looks like it will end up being the highest debut of the year, though.

I hope McBusted are top ten and that they stay there.

Posted by: gooddelta 2nd December 2014, 12:05 PM

That's about right for Take That, should do 150-200k as expected then. The hype has obviously completely dived off a cliff since Progress but the market has changed quite a lot too in the last four years. And they're still bigger than practically any other act out there laugh.gif

Thanks Sunday. So 200k likely for TT with lots shifted at the weekend. Would like to see Union J hold on.

Posted by: madollar 2nd December 2014, 01:05 PM

Think they sold just over half a million for Progress. That will take some beating.

Posted by: stebags 2nd December 2014, 01:06 PM

Abar 520,000 1st week.

On the first day of the release the album sold over 235,000 copies across the UK, making it the fastest-selling record of the century.[28][29] On 21 November 2010, Progress debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the band's sixth number-one album. By the end of its first week on sale the album sold around 520,000 copies, which made it the second fastest-selling album of all-time in UK chart history

Sam Bailey released a new edition of her album yesterday. I'm surprised it's only #48 - it was #6 in HMV when I was there earlier.

Posted by: SKOB 2nd December 2014, 03:04 PM

#25 is not bad for Kiesza, if she stays top 40 she'll sell 8k probably. That's pretty good for a dance pop act with one big and two minor hits

Wouldn't actually mind Union J hanging onto to number 1. Firstly because it won't be Thinking Out Loud and secondly, to see if they can break McFly's record the following week.

I wouldn't expect 'You Got It All' to fall THAT much in its second week, probably only as much as Rixton/5SOS at worst. (Ed will probably still beat them by the end of the week anyway).

Yeah I know they won't plummet by that degree really but most likely out of the top 10 at the very least. But I agree I still think Ed will win it fairly comfortably with a guaranteed 15k advantage.

I don't think Take That will sell 200k this week which is slightly disappointing compared to their last couple of album's first week sales but as people have said, album sales have dramatically declined in last few years. I just hope they beat 1D's sales though and manage to keep the momentum going over December.

This week, though it'll be quite close (a few thousand copies in it).

Posted by: SNOWING ADAM 2nd December 2014, 08:32 PM

Regarding the next week UJ slip (whether initial #1 or not) I reckon it will slip to #5 or #6, but my prediction is depending on the sales. 5SOS had a lot of pre's and not so much week sales so that was expectant, and I think the old Rix didn't sell so many copies initially, so really the sales and lack of streams will determine this thinking.gif

Digital spy have the top 5 singles as:
1. UJ
2. Ed
3. Take That
4. Queen Taylor wub.gif
5. Blonde

That seems like an accurate top 5 the singles could have been.

Disappointed that we haven't got an update today especially since it's clear that several sources have information, but I suppose it makes tomorrow's update more worthwhile.

I presume Union J aren't coming to Morrisons in Harrow, as they're not selling the single.

All this talk of X makes today's Pearls Before Swine cartoon a bit topical:

I believe they are singing a cover of a Christmas song that is being used on a Morrisons advert.

Except not really because the album isn't called 'X' (it's usually spelled 'x' (in lower case) but pronounced 'multiply').

Band Aid is down to #9, McBusted's single is out of the Top 40, Olly Murs' album is down to #7.

No sign of this week's 99p Google Play album (Take That's Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection) so presumably on the budget chart.

Vamps having a bigger effect than I thought there but not complaining! biggrin.gif Will edge it even closer to 200k for the year, hopefully platinum before long too.

Union J not looking very safe at #1, but that's what they get for no streams.

Posted by: mr_aly 2nd December 2014, 10:37 PM

I was expecting a bigger gap for Union J, they'll definitely be #2 on Sunday I think (not that that's a bad result at all).

That's much higher first day sales than I expected for McBusted's album. ohmy.gif I know it'll be extremely frontloaded but even clearing 40k+ this week is a good result for them all things considered.

It's nowhere to be seen in the whole Top 200 so I think it must not count for some reason. I'd be shocked if it just didn't have enough sales, especially with the publicity of him releasing against Take That (even though it was obvious he wouldn't pose any threat against them going to #1!).

Make that 1-2-12-1. wink.gif With the way it's dropping, I wouldn't have thought it would go back to #1. But then again physicals and charity records do go well together and presumably the song will receive an increase in radio/TV airplay with Christmas approaching.

Really? I was gonna check last weeks comparison before I read your post - that's a big increase - can he do 100k with the mad busy Saturdays in December? I think he can - if he's on the XF final god knows what his total will be. Either way IMO he will be the Xmas No1 album!

Its sales have no doubt increased anyway but that 14.9k figure was missing iTunes sales from last Monday so not as big an increase as that suggests.

Union J's lead is much smaller than I expected considering 5SOS and The Vamps et al usually far exceed their iTunes position in the first mids due to high physical sales etc. - they definitely won't be getting #1 then and probably won't be #1 on sales either (will be between Ed and Taylor for that, with Ed looking like having the overall #1 in the bag either way).

#1-#2 Small sales gap as expected. I reckon the gap will increase a bit over the week (since the performance is what got TOL back up) so maybe the All Of Me effect will happen to Ed but will it be enough for the weekend effect when streams rule? thinking.gif

I think Blonde is looking at a possible end at #5, as the sales differences are quite small. Maybe even the whole top 5 will be different!

Good to see Taylor going up with both her songs (I think her 1989 is too biggrin.gif). Mariah is climbing very fast and I assume streams will help, but I haven't looked at streaming charts yet and this will be the first stream-included christmas season happy.gif

What Can I Expect for SecondCity? I didn't think this song would do much in the chart anyway. It's quite weak compared to I Wanna Feel so #36 on Tuesday's update is not looking good at all. It's doing worser than Heartbeat Loud! Not to mention it will probably decline even more with lack of streaming so may end at 70-80 ohmy.gif

I am a little disappointed with Take Thats album sales so far. I had thought 100,000 easily at this stage due to what we had read about pre-orders. While their opening numbers are impressive in terms of the album market, it is slightly disappointing considering how big they have sold in the past.

I should point out 'Wrapped Up' was streamed 1 million times last week alone and is still #2 on airplay charts. And this was his third #1 album last week. People writing Olly off are stupid.

It's just a bit of a busier market to the one 'Right Place Right Time' came out in, but to suggest he's over because of one midweek position is ridiculous.

He is on 'The One Show' tonight performing and chatting and 'This Morning' tomorrow doing likewise so that should be nice little boosters anyhow.

Correct, Take That's sales stand at 96k today. That's pretty bad for them, even with the market considered.

First time hearing this Union J track, don't just want to put the typical comment but it is just bad. :/ Ed Sheeran would be the lesser of two evils to be #1.

Posted by: Santa Martin 3rd December 2014, 04:01 PM

That's the last of the big album releases this year, the album chart will be pretty quiet for the reminder of the year with lack of new releases, until the sales kick in early Jan 2015. I was expecting at least another 20k for These Days, but selling 10k is pretty shocking.

Hopefully we get some sales data later this evening from a different source to add with the updates.

No one thinks he's over, just plateauing out. If you go for a 4th quarter release to maximise sales it's always going to be competitive. Hats off to his team there can't be anywhere left for him to appear. As you say he's been blessed with Airplay. His sales would have been a lot worse without it

Either yesterday was a low sales day for some reason, or Take That's decline is just caused by massive erosion. 10k after selling 85k on then first day is awful. There's a possibility that Ed Sheeran's album sold more than that.

I didn't, but my expectations of the song boosted a little after everyone said it was a good, wintery ballad. I suppose 2 out of 3 isn't bad. tongue.gif

I wonder if Take That's sales were boosted a lot by the Cyber Monday sales which would explain why they haven't sold as well as expected on today's update.

NOTE -- Please read carefully. I'm not saying that The OCC have 'forgotten' any Take That Albums. I'm saying that
they have made a decision to only count their Studio Albums. It is very misleading to count only their No.1 Studio Albums.

As far as I'm concerned, (& many other people), Take That will have their 7th No.1 Album on Sunday, & their 29th Week at
No.1 in the Album Chart. Added to their 29 No.1 Singles Weeks = 58 Weeks at No.1 in the UK. The 7th most for any Act.
Just behind Madonna, who is in 6th place - 29 Singles Weeks + 30 Albums Weeks = 59 No.1 Weeks.

The OCC are saying that '!!!' is Take That's 6th UK No.1 Album & their 6th No.1 in a row.

"Take That could score their sixth UK Number 1 album this Sunday.

The trio’s new collection III is currently in pole position on today’s Official Chart Update with impressive sales of 96,000
at the mid-week stage. If it remains at the top until Sunday, it will mark the band’s sixth consecutive chart-topping LP".

1)... It is their 7th No.1 Album. For some reason The OCC are not counting 'Greatest Hits', (1996), as a No.1 Album for the Group.

2)... Nor are they counting 'Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection', which was a 2005 No.2 Album.

3)... Nor are they counting 'The Greatest Day - The Circus Live' which was a 2009 No.3 Album.

4)... They are just counting Take That's Studio Albums.

5)... Once you start doing that you open a can of worms. It means that 'One' cannot be counted as
The Beatles 15th UK No.1 Album. Nor can they have the 9 No.1 Weeks from it - leaving them with
165 No.1 Weeks & not 174.

6)... Queen cannot have 'Greatest Hits' & 'Greatest Hits II' counted towards their No.1 Albums. So
they get 7 No.1 Albums & 12 No.1 Weeks, rather than 9 No.1 Albums & 21 No.1 Weeks.

7)... ABBA cannot have 9 No.1 Albums & 57 No.1 Weeks. They only have 5 No.1 Albums. 'Greatest Hits',
'Greatest Hits Vol. 2', 'The Singles', & 'Gold' cannot be counted. Nor can the 24 No.1 Weeks from those 4
'Hits' Albums. So ABBA get left with 33 No.1 Weeks.

8)... This is what happens when people make up new 'Rules' as to what is & is not a No.1 Album
for an Act. It is far better to keep it simple. A No.1 Album for an Act is any of their Albums that
go to No.1, be they Studio Albums, Hits Albums, or Live Albums.

Posted by: JosephCarey 3rd December 2014, 05:50 PM

I presume the OCC haven't forgotten about any of them, they just forgot to mention it applies to studio albums alone I assume tongue.gif

Posted by: slowdown73 3rd December 2014, 06:05 PM

Take That will sell about 150k this week or maybe slightly less. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum going in the next couple of weeks.

Posted by: Suedehead2 3rd December 2014, 06:44 PM

It is perfectly reasonable to point to Take That's run of successive number one studio albums but they should specify that that is what they mean. It seems logical to keep separate lists of studio albums only and all albums. A third list which excludes live albums (as they very rarely get to number one) would also make a certain amount of sense.

Yes it did better yesterday but not by a great amount (less than 1k). Take That will still be no1 regardless but Sheeran has kept up the momentum for quite some time and likely to sell strong well into the New Year. It will be interesting to see if Take That can do the same. My feeling is they are unlikely to keep the same momentum as compared to their previous albums but should still make double platinum.

Posted by: MrIndependent 4th December 2014, 01:10 AM

Do TT have any high profile promo over the rest of the month? My belief is that should make the most of Christmas sales whilst they can because I think it will begin to drop quickly once the new year comes. Past albums show that they are unlikely to score any other large hits from the album.

56 Shakin' Stevens
57 Slade
62 Band Aid
67 Brenda Lee

So to all those who said that "the number one was sorted until when the X Factor Winner's Single came out", eat your words! biggrin.gif laugh.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if Band Aid 30 returns to #1 next Sunday, following the physical release. Actually, I'd be more surprised if it didn't
But I guess it depends on whether the charts reflect the mood, or the charts affect the mood, if you see what I mean
If it's more the former, then I think it's more likely to return to #1

Slightly disappointed with sales so far, expected double if I'm honest...but for any artist to get a #1 single and then the week after sell over 100,000 albums is a great achievement, especially one that is nearly 25 years into it's career.

It will be their 7th number 1 album too which is great

I didn't think physical CD singles were selling.much anymore? The physical release is bound to impact on the chart position but can't see it returning to no1 unless downloads and streaming increase.

Why does this forum hate Ed Sheeran, he isn't the most revolutionary artist, but he has a great soulful voice and releases good/great tunes for the most part?

Posted by: Jonjo 5th December 2014, 02:39 AM

Because he hasn't released 'Photograph' as a single yet! drama.gif

In all seriousness though, his new era really isn't that bad. I would actually go as far as saying both 'Sing' and 'Don't' are my two least favourites on that album! TOL as has been said before on here, sounds like a lost soul classic that would have been eaten up by radio regardless of who sung it. 'x' is probably the biggest surprise of the year for me as I found his debut (bar one or two tracks) got boring after just two full listens or so.

Posted by: Mistletoahspike 5th December 2014, 02:39 AM

Sammy, do you think perhaps you are exaggerating?! Ed clearly has plenty of fans on the forum. His chart omnipresence will inevitably make his detractors more vocal than they would be otherwise, as would be the case for any other artist.

Exactly id rather an artist like him who plays an instrument and writes his own songs at the top of the charts than a manufactured boy/girl band who have a 4 year lifecycle.

People will always hate an artist that gets heavy radio airplay and massive success though!

Alan Carr should give it a boost into the chart by sunday - but I guess multiple versions of other songs/ streaming is pulling it down.

Band Aid 30 is down to #15, love to know how well it will do next week, as some members were saying it could be #1 on Sunday night, I don't think it will, its the physicals that's giving the track a boost which doesn't come into effect till Monday and probably won't be #1 on the first mids, if the track gets there.

What? You're having a laugh right? He seems like one of the loveliest popstars out there! That's his appeal.

And I completely understand that he could be seen as boring, however, we don't all need generic dance tracks thrown behind a song or to have someone bouncing around the stage to enjoy it.

He deserves his success. His album is great and I don't think it could happen to a nicer guy. Really pleased to see him and Sam Smith doing so well in the charts. Doing it for the Brits.

Ed Sheeran sold another 7k for yesterday his streams are 24%, whereas Union J physicals cater around 12% the rest on downloads.

In the albums Ed Sheeran has done another 10k+, amazing sales, TT dropping a far bit by 8k for yesterday. Ed Sheeran is looking to displace AC/DC by Sunday.

Hope TOL can reach 60k!

I don't understand that criticism, really! I actually think it's very honest because he's clearly bitter about the subject matter (and who wants to come across as bitter or jealous, even though it's a relatively normal state of mind for people to have?). As far as being 'smug', he didn't get the girl, he's pissed off and felt he was screwed over - there's not a lot to be smug about! I guess some lines like 'It's a bit too much too late if I'm honest' can be perceived as being sactimonious but I think they're very relatable for people in that context. When people feel they've been let down by others, they're often bitter and feel morally superior. That's why I think it's quite an honest song overall.

And yeah, I agree with the majority about him always seeming down-to-earth and affable in interviews.

Of course having a big hit in the US won't necessarily translate to having a big hit in the UK, but, (and I hardly ever watch the music video channels) I wonder if it's not as big over here as it might have been, if, and I'm guessing here, there's maybe less airing of a video, which shows 2 men snogging???

Well the 'two men snogging' part is kind of related to the entire point of the song... tongue.gif The video is a big part of the reason it took off I think.

And besides that'd surely be more of an impediment to its success in the USA than here. The problem he's had here is a lack of radio support, but it is a very popular song nonetheless as shown by its streaming success and sales longevity even after losing its only real radio support by being removed from the R1 playlist. I'm sure it'll go down in the future as being a song that peaked far lower than people think.

Yes but it's a bit dramatic to say they'll try and "sweep the era under a rug" just because it wasn't as successful as 'Progress'... most acts would kill for those kinds of sales!

Posted by: MrIndependent 5th December 2014, 04:10 PM

Album sales were generally higher on Wednesday than on Thursday. Sales wise I'd say Take That are looking at 135-140k, Ed 95-100k and AC/DC 85-90k. George Ezra will most likely climb above McBusted which will see them drop to #8.

ElectroBoy, if you're wondering, Listen to the Man is currently #49, which is up from the late 50s on Tuesday so it is climbing. smile.gif Since it's #23 on iTunes and he's performing on Alan Carr tonight, I don't suppose it could hit the top 20 next week.

Friday Update
1 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud (40.3k)
2 Union J - You Got It All (36.8k) *
3 Take That - These Days (30.6k)
4 Taylor Swift - Blank Space (29.6k)
5 Olly Murs feat. Travie McCoy - Wrapped Up (26.2k)

6 Blonde feat. Melissa Steel - I Loved You *
10 James Newton Howard - The Hanging Tree

19 Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas is You ^

Ed Sheeran is #1 confirmed sad.gif
May Union J's potential number one success rest in peace teresa.gif

Looking like Taylor will end at #3 on sales and #4 (or #5 cry.gif) on combined. Wrapped Up did look at though he was destined to wrap himself another week in the top 5 with streaming success. Poor Blonde sad.gif

How well is Mariah doing on streaming? Is it possible she'll be top 15 on Sunday?

"Afire Love" is screaming out for a single release. It's definitely the most obvious choice left on the album.

100% with you! If there's anyone with any musical interest left in the world, it will be number one!

QUOTE(Hadji @ Dec 5 2014, 03:29 PM) *
I'd love to see "Budapest" drop out in favour of "Listen To The Man". Let's hope it enters this Sunday but it might not happen as lots of songs have streaming or NOW 89 on their side or both. If it doesn't enter this Sunday, let's hope it enters next Sunday

I want this to. Budapest is good but I don't want it to become a 'hate because it spends months in the chart' song. Out with the old and in with the new!

It'll certainly be interesting to see how much difference physical sales make, but it'll only be a very short-term boost, either way.

Everything is 'short term' when talking about Christmas songs. There's only a 6 week or so period each year where they sell non-negligible amounts.

I think if anything Take That will release a second single which ends up being low key, kind of in the same way 'Live While We're Young' (is that what it was called?) was from the last era...

You mean 'When We Were Young'? I didn't even realise that was a single of any sort!

Posted by: FrostytheWallaby 5th December 2014, 05:13 PM

Take That did get a 2nd top 40 single from Progress - Kidz, which reached number 28. Honestly completely forgot that existed until now! I can't imagine that there's much chance they'll get another top 40 hit here though if the album sales are much lower unless there's an obvious smash so I wonder if they'll bother.

Posted by: Mango Ho Ho 5th December 2014, 05:28 PM

'Kidz' was from 'Progress' - but I think Aly's talking about the repackaged 'Progressed' era, which consisted of the singles 'Love Love' (which made #15) and 'When We Were Young' (which made #88 due to lack of promotion).

Have to hand in to UJ and their Management team in the battle for the #1 - They have reduced the price of their single to 49p in all the Morrisons stocking the single - The sold all the copies at their signing today and have one in London tomorrow so I'm sure they will be trying to flog as many as possible. Interesting tactic!

I wonder will Take That bother releasing any post-album singles? With the way this album's sales are going I wouldn't be surprised if they try to sweep the era under a rug unsure.gif

Doubt they are too concerned - #1 single, #1 album and 37 date sell out tour - Not quite the era to forget about considering a band like Take That should hold minimal relevance rather than being one of the UK's most successful acts!

I think they will have further single success from this album - 'Grt Ready For It' is being used as the closing credits for a film and 'Lovelife' will tie in nicely with a tour time release, Wouldnt be overly surprised to get a repackaged album like they done with Progress/Progressed and the 'Beautiful World' tour edition.

I think its way too early to just write this era off yet. They will still sell over 100k this week and album sales should be decent enough over the next few weeks but obviously no way as high as their recent albums but still pretty good.

Their management aren't that clever, by not putting it up for streaming they were never in the running for #1 even in by far the lowest sales week of 2014.

Not to mention they could easily drop the iTunes price to 59p...

As for Take That, they're never going to pull more than one hit single from an album again so I doubt they're overly bothered in that respect. The major album decline is a worry, but not unexpected. They did well to remain so enormous for as long as they did. Buble and Coldplay used to be of a similar stature and haven't exactly smashed records with their most recent studio albums either.

Although 'III' looks like falling short of the opening sales of 'Ghost Stories' now ph34r.gif I actually think the fact that that's still the second fastest seller of the year is an extremely impressive statistic, sure it wasn't exactly a record smasher but it beat the first Pink Floyd album for 20 years and the new 1D album, both by a comfortable margin, despite those both being released in Q4.

Indeed still Britains biggest band after all this time!

The release of Magic followed by an Avicii produced 2nd single helped the album massively to its first week sale -Magic IMO is one of their strongest lead singles!

And for a band nearly 25 years into existence to have a number 1 single and album with first week sales over a 100,000 is enormously impressive.

The hype will return once Robbie and Jason return in for the 2016 album

I'm fairly certain Jason is not ever going to return.

Posted by: gooddelta 5th December 2014, 11:19 PM

Plus I doubt a second Robbie return would create much hype. The magic of it the first time around is that it was something that seemed completely unlikely to ever happen, and was preceded by the almost fairytale happy ending of Robbie and Gary rebuilding their friendship after all those years before the duet Shame and Robbie's eventual return to the fold.

Singles

1 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud (40.3k)
2 Union J - You Got It All (36.8k) *
3 Take That - These Days (30.6k)
4 Taylor Swift - Blank Space (29.6k)
5 Olly Murs feat. Travie McCoy - Wrapped Up (26.2k)

It looks like Union J are going to drop to #4 by tomorrow judging by the huge gap between them and Taylor Swift on iTunes.

She is 7.2K behind and gaining about 2K per day, I don't think she'll overtake them. I think UJ will stay #2 now (but drop massively next week).

Posted by: Doctor Blind 6th December 2014, 12:05 PM

With Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" going back to #1 in its 24th chart week, this will finally break Frankie Laine's 61 year record as being the longest into its chart career whilst still at #1. "I Believe" was number 1 for an 18th and final week in September 1953 in its 23rd chart career week. Celine Dion came close in 1995 when "Think Twice" spent a 7th and final week at the top in March '95 which was its 22nd charting week.
