#31 'Valley of the Dolls'
Average: 6.75

Finishing in last place is this laidback album track from 'Electra Heart', with its lush production it tells a story about Marina's yo-yo struggle for success in life. Sung at a slow tempo until the middle 8 where Marina embarks on her typical vocal fireworks it's easy to understand why it hasn't proved all to popular on Buzzjack. Its lyrics may also be a tad confusing and difficult to relate with, but with such ambient top-notch production and easy on the ear vocals you'd think this would rank a bit higher. sob.gif

6.75 isn't a bad average for the lowest. It feels like a re-tread of bits and pieces of her other songs.

I'm quite surprised that Valley is bottom! It's one of the highlights of Electra Heart for me, along with Teen Idle. I feel the production of a lot of Electra Heart lets down some decent songs but here it's perfect. Goes nicely with Lana's Dark Paradise.

#30 'Girls'
Average: 6.758

Surprise surprise, the lowest ranked track from 'The Family Jewels' is in the form of 'Girls'. One of the more upbeat and pop-orientated songs on the album, it's hatred mania lyrics and vocals are likely not to appeal to the casual listener who does not share the same levels of mania as Marina does, but it's a breath of fresh air in her discography nonetheless!

As many critics said at the time, it wouldn't sound out of place on Blur's The Great Escape. I like it a lot more now - I totally understand someone hating it, though.

#29 'Sex Yeah'
Average: 6.8

With its signature 'sexsexsexsexsex' intro, the upbeat 'Electra Heart' bonus track finishes near the bottom end of her discography, previously leaking several months before the release of 'Electra Heart', 'Sex Yeah'. It also underwent single rumours around the time of the 'How to Be a Heartbreaker' release. Critics have deemed it as Florence + the Machine meets Robyn. Despite the saucy title, the song is actually quite on-tone should be taken seriously, with Marina advising you to 'Question what a pop star tells you'. It seems that Marina's more fun and rebellious songs seem to prove less popular than the lovesick and depressing ones.

#28 'Living Dead'
Average: 6.933

'Electra Heart' continues to fill up the bottom end of the rate with the soundtrack to any emo's life ala 'Living Dead', with its thumping flourishing beat it is sung with broken-roar-emotion vocals, it ranks up as one of Marina's most depressing and hardcore songs, which for the happy clappy type listeners could easily be dismissed, so its low ranking is not all that much of surprise, but nonetheless when you're rock bottom a song like this is perfection.

The Loons:

I actually really like Living Dead! Valley Of The Dolls is painfully average though, easily the worst track on EH.

Surely there's no such thing as an average Marina song, but I'm fine with the results so far, even though I like all songs.

#27 'Rootless'
Average: 7.016

Moving into the 7 figures for the first time with 'The Family Jewels' album track 'Rootless' which is Buzzjack's 3rd least favourite from that album. The slow-paced emotional song was produced by Liam Howe and Pascal Gabriel and features some dramatic instrumental production of which includes the random saxophone appearance. The song's melody isn't as prominent or catchy as other Marina songs which could be reasoning as to why 'Rootless' is not as popular in comparison to the rest of Marina's discography.

Being the FLOP that I am, I skipped 'The Family Jewels' by accident which ranked in before 'Living Dead'. WOOPS drama.gif but we shall be moving along swiftly now.
