Ahhhh 'Another Chance' is my favourite song of all-time (I have said that enough times on here ).
Like Lewis, it just gives me goosebumps every single time and that's quite rare for a dance song. |

Another Chance really is brilliant. Especially the full-length (7 minute) version. So lush

Yes Another Chance is a great deep house tune. We would see a similar style with Mylo's In My Arms in 2005 in sampling an older record to make a deep house song.
2001 was big for deep house, not until 2013 would we see so much of it in the charts (and 2001 deep house is much better than 2013 and 2014 styles imo as it was less about the drop and more about the flow of the record. I do remember Another Chance from the time and liked it back then. Btw sorry about the Mis Teeq post and the DJ Pied Piper/ MCs one being deleted. I have redone the former and will do the latter tomorrow. |

Another Chance is incredible, one of the best of the year
on the other hand, that DJ Pied Pier song is probably the worst |

Summer-dominating ANTHEM coming next! Woo! Hopefully TheSnake will post the video of the version that was actually a hit here, rather than the remix that happens to be the top result (and most viewed) when you search for the song on YouTube (with the title of the video not even making reference to the fact it's a remix ) |

A few years ago it was even more ridiculous, almost every single youtube result was the wrong version - the right version, or at least the one known in the UK (maybe it's another ATB - 9pm situation?) was finally buried on page 10 or something. Thankfully now the 'real' version is on page 1 at least. But anyway, more when it arrives on these pages! |

Oh I know what you're talking about. Even the music channels play the wrong version every single time these days now, in fact I saw it yesterday on one of them.

The difference being with ATB's '9PM' the UK got a remix being pushed as the single edit whilst Europe had the original.
This time around we got the original being the hit (that version is the original yes?) |

Does anybody follow Coco Star (I Need A Miracle/Toca's Miracle) on Facebook? It seems she has been fighting for a credit on Toca's Miracle for 16 years, not sure what to make of the posts.

It's a really odd situation, she's claiming that Fragma's use of her vocal track is technically illegal for various complicated reasons. The current version of Wikipedia's article suggests someone majorly on Coco's side has recently edited it, this is the first line:
QUOTE "Toca's Miracle" is a Bootleg recording by the German musical group Fragma, featuring vocals stolen from British singer Coco Star. That's only been rewritten in the last few days, there was no "bootleg" or "stolen" wording before. Coco's in the music video for it - but was that newly filmed for Fragma or reused from the original Coco track? |

You Are Alive remains amazing (as is Everytime You Need Me).
Another Chance is the best dance track of 2001 imo - still fresh today and was a superb number 1. |

Coco's in the music video for it - but was that newly filmed for Fragma or reused from the original Coco track? That's what I don't understand about it...the music video was new in 2000 as far as I know so why would she have agreed to be in it if her vocals were stolen? Not to mention performing it on TOTP: Bizarre! |

Maybe she was under the impression at the time that she'd be getting credit for the use the of her vocal but in the end she didn't receive royalties and so now she's claiming Fragma stole her vocal.

Another Chance is one of those songs I cannot disassociate the video from the song. Everytime I listen to it and I immediately picture the actress carrying around that giant heart and expect to hear the dialogue "It's small now. It was bigger before".

Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky
Date 22nd July 2001 3 Weeks Official Chart Run 5-5-6-3-4-7-8-11-16-21-27-34-40-47-61-71 (14 weeks) + 2 weeks 08/12/2001 96-98 + 2 weeks 05/01/2002 90-79 + 1 week 02/02/2002 95 + 2 weeks 16/02/2002 85-82 (23 weeks in all) 2001 wasn't a massive year for trance, and the genre didn't dominate the charts in that year. The dance in the charts was mostly dominated by house, as we have seen with Salsoul Nugget, I Wanna Be U, Touch Me and Another Chance. The only big trance hits in 2001 were the Safri Duo's Bongo Song and Fragma's Everytime We Touch at the start of the year, Schiller - Das Glockenspiel, another tune at the end of the year from an unlikely source and probably the biggest trance hit of all that year, this one. In 2002 we would see dance being dominated by trance music and house on the back foot. And it is this track which was probably responsible for this change. Ian Van Dahl is not a person, as I have long assumed, but a group. The group consisted of Christophe Chantzis, Erik Vanspauwen and vocalist Annemie Coenen, all from Belgium. Annemie was cast after the original vocalist was deemed to not make a good frontwoman for the act and another vocalist was not good enough in live performances and also had an unfortunate tendency to mime along to the original vocalists version of the track. Annemie featured on Will I and Reason, the two follow ups to Castles In The Sky, and so became the official vocalist. Both of these of these follow ups were big hits in the UK but not as successful with regards to sales as Castles in The Sky had been. Castles In The Sky has sold 400,000 copies in the UK and reached number 23 in the year end chart of 2001. Amazingly, Castles In The Sky only reached number 35 in Ian Van Dahl's native country, Belgium. It made number 91 in the US, and it was unusual for a trance track to make the US top 100 at this time. It went top 20 in Romania, Ireland, Denmark, Canada and Spain. The track is described on Wikipedia as dream trance. This genre was created to stop car accidents in the late 1990s as a result of tired clubbers returning home from their festivities. The idea was to play a calmer song at the end of the set so they would not be so tired from dancing. Robert Miles' 1995 track Children is seen as the pioneering track in this genre. Perhaps the fact it is dream trance is why it has such enigmatic lyrics about 'building castles in the sky'. When I hear the song, I am reminded of altocumulus castellanus (Doctor Blind will know about this cloud type). Personally don't really like the fact the lyrics seem a bit enigmatic and meaningless but the music itself is atmospheric and sweeping and 'Castles In The Sky' definitely sparked the trance boom of 2002, as well as starting the trend for soulful female vocals in dance music, the type of which Colm definitely wasn't a fan , which would last until the summer of 2006. Incredible track, easily in my all-time top 100 still. I heard it first on Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems I seem to recall and was hooked immediately. Glad it eventually managed that top three peak too, fully deserved!
