    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 88 or Now 88 was released in the summertime of 2014 and contained a record-breaking 15 UK #1 singles from the year! The two discs fitted 45 tracks in total with very few omissions that peaked inside the Top 10, the highest being only #4. This volume was the first time in the series we heard music from a whole host of big names including Ella Henderson, George Ezra, Ariana Grande, Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne (as a lead artist), Rixton, Kiesza, Oliver Heldens, Sigma, MK, Sia (as a lead artist) and Tove Lo.

The highest charting omission came from Example with One More Day (Stay With Me) which was a little surprising as most of his hits were included in the series. Along with this there were omissions from Pitbull, Gorgon City, Paolo Nutini, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato, The Saturdays, Meridian Dan and Indiana to name a few.

Of those artists whose only appearance this is in the series there were songs by Mr. Probz, Ella Eyre (as a lead artist), MKTO, Idina Menzel, Secondcity, Klingande, Faul & Wad Ad, Shift K3y, John Martin (as a lead artist), and DJ Cassidy.

Artwork Rating: 8/10 Extremely Good
Interestingly the last time I rated an album artwork form the series with 8/10 it was of a fairground which isn’t too far from the mark of what is going on with this volume’s artwork. Obviously the theme is that of a rollercoaster which always spells an element of fun and surprise, and those are the sort of ingredients I look for when choosing a CD to buy. This artwork is bright, twisty and quite technical too, but it’s rather good I might say!

Disc 1 Favourite: Mr. Probz – Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)
This one hit wonder was a staple in the summer of 2014, a nice breezy sound of fresh laid back dance music. It was the first time Robin Schulz came on the scene too. I don’t play this very much anymore but it’s still a good listen when it comes on.

Disc 2 Favourite: Secondcity – I Wanna Feel
There is just so much dance music on this disc, it was hard to narrow down my favourites, but this one which was surprisingly a UK #1 single had great feel-good vibes and they never were able to top it afterwards.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Example – One More Day (Stay With Me) 3:29 {4}
2. Gorgon City feat. Laura Walsh – Here For You 3:53 {7}
3. Indiana – Solo Dancing 4:14 {14}
4. Lana Del Rey – West Coast 4:16 {21}
5. Paolo Nutini – Scream (Funk My Life Up) 3:09 {12}
6. Twin Atlantic – Heart And Soul 3:37 {17}
7. Kasabian – eez-eh 2:59 {22}
8. Conchita Wurst – Rise Like A Phoenix 3:01 {17}
9. Molly – Children Of The Universe 3:00 {23}
10. Foxes – Holding Onto Heaven 3:31 {14}
11. Ellie Goulding – Beating Heart 3:32 {9}
12. Meridian Dan feat. Big H & JME – German Whip 3:16 {13}
13. Skepta feat. JME – That’s Not Me 3:04 {21}
14. Lethal Bizzle feat. Cherri Voncelle – The Drop 2:54 {20}
15. Pitbull feat. G.R.L. – Wild Wild Love 3:22 {6}
16. Demi Lovato – Neon Lights 3:52 {15}
17. The Saturdays – Not Giving Up 3:19 {19}
18. Wilkinson feat. Tom Cane – Half Light 3:03 {25}
19. Kove feat. Melissa Steel – Way We Are 3:21 {30}
20. Showtek & Justin Prime feat. Matthew Koma – Cannonball 3:32 {29}
21. Dimitri Vegas & Martin Garrix & Like Mike – Tremor 4:54 {30}
22. David Guetta & Showtek feat. Vassy – Bad 2:50 {22}
23. DJ Snake & Lil Jon – Turn Down For What 3:33 {23}
----------
Total time: 1:19:41

Overall Rating: 9/10 Amazing
This volume is most certainly deserving of a high rating, I can’t fault the effort that went into making this volume. Firstly, showcasing 15 UK #1 singles, in fact every single one available from this era, is mightily impressive and was a record set at the time. Also, the fact that the highest charting omission was a #4 hit shows that all the highest charting hits made the cut. The volume is utter brilliance.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of June 2018)
1. Secondcity – I Wanna Feel
2. John Martin – Anywhere For You
3. Calvin Harris – Summer
4. Mr. Probz – Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)
5. Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of June 2018)
1. DJ Cassidy feat. Robin Thicke & Jessie J – Calling All Hearts
2. Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne & Tyga – Loyal
3. 5 Seconds Of Summer – Don’t Stop
4. The Vamps – Last Night
5. Sam Smith – Stay With Me

Yes technically they did though the lead credit was given to Digital Farm Animals. I think it was jointly shared though so I ought to edit that part in my post. wink.gif

I really like this album. I can't decide whether I like the cover or not. I would say if the '8's were positioned better it might improve my opinion.

Favourite 5: (essentially the first part of disc 2!)
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
SecondCity - I Wanna Feel
Oliver Heldens x Becky Hill - Gecko (Overdrive)
Calvin Harris - Summer
Kiesza - Hideaway

Other honourable mentions: Extraordinary, Touch, Always and Welcome To The Jungle

Artwork: 9/10
In real life, I hate rollercoasters and am terrified of going on them. Theme park rides etc. are something I've always hated tongue.gif But looking at them on an album artwork is pleasing

Overall: 10/10
I love this album, arguably one of my favourites ever. There's only 7 songs over both discs that I don't like/go back to frequently (3 on Disc 1, 4 on Disc 2) and over half of each disc have become timeless tbh. My Top 5s are very rough as there are just so many great songs spread across here. I love how all songs on the entire album were Top 10 apart from 5, and even then they were all Top 40.

Wild Wild Love, Neon Lights, Bad, Good Girls, Not A Bad Thing, Stolen Dance, Clarity, and It's On Again are the only songs I would've liked to make an appearance - but I'm not surprised they're missing for the most part. Wild Wild Love seems like a strange omission considering Pitbull's popularity though. I also like West Coast, although I really only play the ZHU remix tongue.gif To say that these were the most popular songs at the time is surprisingly accurate for a Now album - often there's a bunch of high profile omissions on Now albums... but not so much here.

artwork: 8/10, I like the rollercoaster aesthetic

disc 1 top five:
1. Mr Probz – Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit) wub.gif [my fave song of that year]
2. Jess Glynne – Right Here [fab debut solo single from her with banging gorgon city production]
3. Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars [gotta love a banging Avicii production]
4. Clean Bandit feat. Sharna Bass – Extraordinary [underrated gem of theirs]
5. Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX – Fancy [time hasn't been kind to her but this was rather catchy and a bop]

disc 2 top five:
1. Oliver Heldens x Becky Hill – Gecko (Overdrive) [loved this the second it was released as an instrumental and the vocal mix is brilliant too]
2. Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be [a beauty and deserved modern day classic]
3. Secondcity – I Wanna Feel [brilliant house banger]
4. Kiesza – Hideaway [woo a bop]
5. Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau – Changes [this one had the best sax work of the short lived sax dance craze, all round brilliant song too]

so many good songs on this disc too wow!

worst five:
1. Idina Menzel – Let It Go [probably my least favourite song ever, hideous screechy theatrical overplayed screechfest] puke.gif
2. The Vamps – Last Night [awful, probably their worst hit]
3. 5 Seconds Of Summer – Don’t Stop [not as offensive as SLSP, but still rather bad]
4. The Vamps feat. Demi Lovato – Somebody To You [this was rather inoffensive until Demi showed up and screeched all over it]
5. DJ Cassidy feat. Robin Thicke & Jessie J – Calling All Hearts [far too long for what it is, and not that good of a song anyway, a poor disco knock off that wouldn't have got made if Get Lucky wasn't big a year ago]

overall: 8/10
