Pete Tong Album to be the biggest competition to The La La Land Soundtrack for the top spot!

Posted by: Steve201 22nd January 2017, 02:32 PM

Album no1 sales could be pretty terrible this week!

Posted by: Serg 22nd January 2017, 02:34 PM

Still should be in range 10k to 15k ?

Yeh which is awful!

Can't see Frank Carter or Loyle Carner doing much - Elbow and Rag n Bone Man should reach 25k in a couple of weeks again. Interested to see the fall for the XX?!

it's probably because not much of interest is happening. He posted about Ed didn't he in his first week?

He just posted that there are two new entries in the top 40 and made some joke about the ratio change not doing much to speed the charts up.

Posted by: cqmerqn 23rd January 2017, 11:36 AM

Assuming that's Text From Your Ex and Be The One?

Posted by: PeaceMob 23rd January 2017, 11:38 AM

I do have a soft spot for that "City Of Stars" song from the La La Land movie, such a sweet song. Would love to see that go top 40 this week.

The new streaming/download ratio has really given the single chart a boost of activity. There's a massive 2 new songs in the top 40.

Posted by: Bjork 23rd January 2017, 11:45 AM

haha probably he read in here that we were complaining about him not posting and he decided to make a post ;D

Posted by: Steve201 23rd January 2017, 11:47 AM

In fairness there may only be 2 new entries but that doesn't highlight songs rising up the chart!

Posted by: gooddelta 23rd January 2017, 11:47 AM

I'd be pleased for Pete Tong or the La La Land OST to get #1 album for the first time, both are so good/inspired <3

Posted by: Mart!n 23rd January 2017, 11:51 AM

And in fairness we don't know how close the top 2 albums are, I know Minty is saying Pete Tong's sales are looking good, but looking good could mean anything. laugh.gif

There is definitely some singles climbing back up inside the top 40 singles chart, I should imagine 2 or 3, as I'm looking at the current chart, where some acts could just fall away.

Pete Tong was behind The La La Land OST on iTunes and Amazon on Friday until he appeared on "The One Show" in the evening.
That boost is starting to diminish on iTunes but he is still top of the Best Sellers on Amazon (not surprised with the Pete Tong CD at £4.99).

I wonder whether The La La Land OST will go 3->2->1 although next week there will be competition from Tinie Tempah.

Posted by: Mart!n 23rd January 2017, 12:14 PM

We could also have the British contenders to the Eurovision Song Contest floating about, but at the moment I can't see them doing anything this week. for the latest contenders visit the Eurovision forum, all 6 tracks have been revealed.

They won't be commercially released going by last year so there's no fear of them troubling the charts (not that there would have been even if they were!)

La La Land are actually #3, and it's not Little Mix sandwiched in at #2.

Disappointing to see The xx falling as far as #7 in the mids, this album really feels like it should be doing much better especially as 'On Hold' has grown into pretty much their biggest single to date. Hope it can hold up a bit better in the long run.

It is slightly odd that after 3 days of Sales Pete Tong has exceeded his Sales of the previous week - shows what can happen with a combination of a little bit of Promotion and a price reduction!

New Music Friday playlist on release day gives it a big boost. That playlist was not advertised after Friday so it lost that exposure and dropped. Happens to the vast majority of new releases.

Posted by: Bjork 24th January 2017, 12:21 PM

but actually he didn't drop much and he's recovered again, he's done 52-80-ish, 80-ish, 68 on Spotify plus he's #15 on iTunes
so I think he could hold on

hasn't done bad on Spotify, there debut high cos of the New Music Friday playlist and are gone the next day (i.e. John Mayer)

Just the 14 Oscar Nominations for La La Land then, should give the soundtrack another boost - number 2 looks guaranteed this week but hopefully it can continue its upward trajectory next week!

Actually looking at Sales figures for yesterday for La La Land (OST) and Pete Tong it could even be close for the top spot!

Battle for number 1 and number 3 in the album chart. Think little mix could catch mike oldfield

SOY heading for similar sales to last week then?!

Posted by: Davidson 24th January 2017, 03:08 PM

Any sign of M.O anywhere close to the top 40?

Posted by: omrimayo 24th January 2017, 03:33 PM

LLL is closing in a good rate, hoping the Oscar buzz will do some wonders and great streams also should be added.. It's gonna be close. Rooting for this masterpiece anyway!

The Oscar nomination with have a big effect imo!

#43! I'm hoping it can sneak in by the end of the week but it'll need to increase further on iTunes and/or Spotify for that I think.

Posted by: Davidson 24th January 2017, 04:36 PM

It has climbed from #21 to #17 on iTunes today so here's hoping.

I have every confidence in Little Mix to improve on today's positions. Touch, should take the number 4 position in the singles and number 3 in the albums. Get Weird will end the week no lower than its existing position.

Rick Astley continues to amaze me with this album, wonderful chart run and should easily reach platinum in the coming months. If he has a slight piece of promo lined up the album will climb. I never in a million years thought he would have a number 1 album that would go platinum and have such a great chart run.

It's a cast recording rather than, for example, the forthcoming Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack which is a compilation of different artists' songs!

Really don't understand how City Of Stars is so low - it's nearly top 20 combined on iTunes and top 50 combined on Spotify, it seems only logical it's top 50 in the Official Charts unsure.gif

Posted by: Bjork 24th January 2017, 07:48 PM

Tinie and Dua Lipa are both doing poorly on spottily but both are top 30 on Apple Streaming, that should count for something!

Posted by: mdh 24th January 2017, 07:55 PM

I wonder if Apple Music streams equate for more chart sales than we assume, I've always thought they're worth about 15% of all streams - maybe they're worth more? ohmy.gif

The Ryan Gosling solo version and the duet version are being treated as two different chart entries.

But they both got totally seperate releases as far as I'm aware hence were treated as seperate songs.

They've combined The Greatest, The Hills, Cheap Thrills, Over And Over Again, Call On Me just to name a few in the past so why on earth they're counting the two versions of City of Stars as seperate songs I'll never know. Mess.

Pete Tong seems safe at #1, the 3k gap has been rather consistently all week.

So its La La Land or Tinie for the #1 album next week, going with the former.

Major Lazer and Zara Larsson both have new songs out tomorrow so I hope one of them can knock Ed Sheeran off the top. If "Run Up" can manage the same amount or more first week sales than "Cold Water", then Major Lazer will have a chance of knocking Ed Sheeran off the top

I can't see Zara going anything higher than #15 (officially this week), I actually think Garrix will peak higher than Major Lazer this week.

Guessing

Major Lazer 27
Martin Garrix 35
Zara 40

"Run Up" is out already - don't think it'll be challenging for #1 next week like people thought. Not saying it's bad, but fingers crossed Garrix & Dua Lipa can deliver an absolute smash!
