The next album may still be miles away, I don't know, but it's possibly due out this year. I almost started a thread for it last April but turns out I was right not to.

What's important is that the Gorillaz soundcloud account, after being dormant for years, has uploaded a half hour mix indicating where their influences for this next album are, at least in part, for 'Noodle's' side of things anyway, are coming from. And I thought the list of songs in this mix might be of interest to some people here.

^Link above doesn't seem to be working

Errr....interesting new sound I guess, might take a few listens to click, but can't say it's not striking and always good to see a good anti-Trump song~

Yeah, not keen, but it seems it's just a stand-alone single instead of the lead from their new album (an album which is coming): https://i.redd.it/yfj9pady9qay.png

YASSSS for two reasons a) I didn't jump the gun on making this thread and b) THEY ARE BACK *.*

Sounds rather like Cloud Of Unknowing but also political and relevant. I wouldn't say it's great but it feels so good to have them back I don't care. Honestly, that Damon's still out there pushing genres is enough for me.

I wouldn't worry if you don't like this, they rarely stick to one sound. And in fact they've never done something quite this... serene before.

Didn't quite know what to think of this on first listen but it's quickly growing! Very topical, rich vocals and the production sounds fantastic.

How big are these guys? Because I know they can make a decent iTunes impression, but just how big do we think?

Their last two albums didn't get any singles success but I still think a new Gorillaz song would shoot up high on iTunes. How long it would stay up high is debatable, but I think the first couple of days would see it at least in the Top 20 or something.

Decent vocalist choice. This song has a lot of re-listen value.

They're huge (at least it seems so from my experience) among those with a interest in 00s nostalgia, so twenty-somethings. Like, anecdotally, I probably ran into them more than most artists at uni (pleasingly) and this was years after they'd released their most recent album. And the post announcing this yesterday was huge on reddit.

I know Plastic Beach didn't have huge singles but if they have the right party banger lying dormant (and I mean another Feel Good Inc that perfectly taps into the culture of today somehow) I honestly wouldn't put it past them to have a big streaming hit as well as hitting iTunes hard. They might do that, they might not, they have potential is all I'm saying, by being not old enough of an artist to be considered too uncool to have a new hit but old enough to have lots of nostalgia-based goodwill hanging around them. Daft Punk is a comparison I'd make.

The choral sounds of this are really growing on me. It's getting there. This is not that comeback but for a timely standalone release, it's cool.

How nice they are back. Just one day earlier I heard Dare blasting from a passing-by car and got nostalgic as a result!
