BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions (Thurs Update + Top 5 Sales)

Posted by: Mart!n Nov 14 2015, 09:35 AM

Not much happening in the singles chart this week, with the top 5 remaining unchanged with Jess Glynne CIN track 'Take Me Home' among the top 5. New singles come from Format: B 'Chunky', KSI feat. JME 'Keep Up' and Missy Elliott collaborating with Pharrell Williams on 'WTF (Where They From)' and other Justin Bieber tracks cherry picked from his new studio album.

As for the albums, its a battle for the top from Justin Bieber's new studio album 'Purpose' and in the other corner One Direction with their last studio album together 'Made In The A.M.' who will be the eventual artist on top of the album chart come Friday, its going to be a very interesting week. Other new album releases this week for Jeff Lynne's ELO 'Alone In The Universe', Skrapz 'The End Of The Beginning', Kylie Minogue 'Kylie Christmas' and Ben Haenow with his self titled debut album 'Ben Haenow'. Only 2 big albums to drop between now and Xmas, Coldplay and Adele, the latter is released next Friday expecting huge sales.

Also please take note sales are not guaranteed every day

I think Adele will just about hang on, its too early to tell though as for Sorry, it might just edge there with stronger stream sales to his advantage, I'm really surprised Sorry has done so much better than his previous #1 single, also with the album release should give Sorry another boost. Whatever happens Adele will return back to #1 the week after. Why does someone have to stick a the spanner in the works and spoil a long running #1 track for a change without a break. drama.gif fingers cross for Adele to keep that top spot.

Ugh... Bieber's album is so much stronger than 1D's so I was really hoping he could somehow do it.

Did anyone really expect Bieber to beat 1D on their home turf? Plus they have the X Factor performance on Sunday.

I think Bieber's will probably outsell 1D's in the long run. This week fans will be buying 2/3/4 different versions of the album. Some will even buy 5/6 as there different Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall covers etc.

Doesn't help that lots of Bieber's bundles have been delayed.

I don't really understand this obsession with long running #1s bar a 'pretty chart run'? Sorry has proved itself to be one of the biggest hits of the year and has been very unlucky not to reach #1 so surely a week or two at the top would be justified?

Posted by: steve201 Nov 14 2015, 12:22 PM

I would also like Adele to just remain at No1 this week if it meant she would rise again after a 1 week stay for Bieber and stay there until xmas so we have a good 6/7 weeker. But if people are genuinely over Hello and Sorry is unquestionably rising due to people becoming bored of the later and it becoming a big hit im all for a change at no1. I just hope Sorry isnt rising just for this week because of the album hype etc.

You never know Hello might not even rise with a Tv performance as sometimes happens with big selling hits that have late tv promo we shall have to wait and see.

Vying for Kylie to get a top 10 album, but won't lose sleep over it if she doesn't.

Posted by: JosephStyles Nov 14 2015, 12:31 PM

I'd be shocked if Sorry wasn't #1 on Friday actually. Children In Need hasn't boosted Jess as much as I expected it to, and whilst X Factor may propel her to the iTunes #1, I don't think it'll be enough to take the official top spot. Justin's on ~94% combined on iTunes right now, and is ahead on streaming (no doubt with big numbers today after yesterday's album release), so I think Justin will finally take it, and I hope so too! It's been a huge hit already, a week at #1 is the least it deserves now.

kylie's at no 5 according to Mint Royale.

I'm very pleased about Kylie. Hopefully she will stay top 10 by end of the week.

Posted by: girl_from_oz Nov 14 2015, 04:17 PM

Wonder how Ben Haenow is doing, I'm guessing ELO are at 3, and Elvis at 4, Ed Sheeran probably at 6, so will Haenow be number 7

Posted by: mr_pmt Nov 14 2015, 04:24 PM

That's the best I could have hoped for at this stage for Madame Minogue. I think she stands a reasonable chance of staying top 10.

Posted by: Shivering Adam❄️ Nov 14 2015, 05:11 PM

Hello and Sorry are both very good songs but I think it would be a good outcome to see both have an oppurtunity to take the crown. Shame Bieber can't be doing the double as the album's singles so far have actually been great and One Direction haven't proven to be as good for me with the last few singles (never thought I'd say this until a few months ago! heehee.gif )

No word, but I can imagine it being around 9/10 at the moment, but will most probably climb over the course of the week, with Ben and Kylie falling beneath them.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Ellie fell from the top 10.

Would it really be embarrassing? I mean yeah he won X factor but his record label evidently have zero interest in him and want rid of him asap. He is basically in a no win situation.

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 14 2015, 07:17 PM

Let's say 1D have sold 60k, which is a bit more than Up All Night sold but less than FOUR's 75k (it could be on similar sales). 1D winning by a 50% with that sale would put Bieber on 40k, which is already more than all his other albums sold in their first week. If 1D are on another 75k, that puts Bieber on 50k.

Great sales and outcome for both anyway. Justin was never going to be #1, but it will be on the streaming chart and digital chart.

I'd imagine that Elvis is at 3, followed by ELO and Kylie. Ed is probably up to 6 and Little Mix, who I think will be selling more than Ben, will probably be at 7 with him at 8 and falling as the week goes on.

Great result for Miss Kyles. Happy with that.

Very sad to see how they are treating Ben and I agree the album on first listen is very good. I think he will manage Top ten. It would be a real shame if he didn't.

Kylie not got much promo coming up this week, but packed in December...... so it will be interesting to see if she can keep a top 10 and the sales margins as she is slipping now on ITunes, still a bit early for Christmas-factor

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 14 2015, 08:28 PM

It's the general public that have no interest in Ben. Voting for someone on a talent show in comparison to supporting their music and buying their albums outside of said show is a totally different discipline; we've known this for a while and most people also knew last year when Ben was crowned winner that he wouldn't have much success. Nothing to do with Syco.

There is always luck involved with any artist as to whether they make it or not but you only have to look at the release strategy for his single to see they don't care. I don't think there's much doubt Ben would have entered the Top 10 if his single had been released the week of his performance . Instead there was no promo for two weeks before it and he performed at about 20 past 10 on the first show, even I got bored waiting for him I'm sure some people had already switched off, yet he managed to sell 40k downloads in those first two weeks before that performance without much help at all. Those sales would have been more condensed with a better strategy & he would have made the Top Ten quite easily. Because of this mess up the flop tag started week 1 when he entered the charts at #21. Ben is marketable, they just can't be bothered or are inept. Getting Kelly on board made it look like they tried but everything since says otherwise.

Sorry for being naive, but if I "complete my album" after buying one song on iTunes, does that count as an album sale? Even if the song has already been registered as a single sale?

Ben Haenow was never going to be a successful singer. Let's face it - there's just something missing and he falls into the same category of Steve Brookstein and Joe McElderry - individuals who won the show but the runners up managed more successful music careers. Even if his album is in the top 10, I suspect it will drop quickly and he won't be heard of again.

TBF to Ben, and it pains me to say this, the album is pretty decent. Not totally unlike the kind of stuff you hear from OneRepublic, he just has pretty shoddy promotion
and marketability, and that cover is dire.

Well that's not entirely true, Leona's far outperformed anyone else in her year kink.gif I'd say Shayne Ward was the most successful from his year too, easily. JLS outperformed Alexandra but we can't undermine her huge success with that debut album either!

The problem is the voting audience.

On all these singing shows all around the world the audience heavily favors male contestants. Male singers, over 20, possibly even over 25 years old, adult contemporary, pop rockers. Females of all ages, but especially those middle aged and older women heavily gravitate towards those types. Ben Haenow totally fits in. I knew he would be dangerous when he made it to the live shows and it soon became clear that he had it in the bag. When they showed his female fans on the finale from his homecoming, it was very clear that he was unstoppable.

So guys of that type easily win these shows, but later on they struggle to stay relevant in the music business.

Ben turned 30 in January. Hit radio stations (Capital, BBC Radio 1) think he is too old for their target audience and that he is too uncool. And the support of Capital ans BBC Radio 1 are crucial for post show success.

Posted by: Regina Nov 15 2015, 02:12 PM

Here's hoping he goes down the route of Shayne and Matt and strips down for a magazine shoot. That'll gain some fans.

Why do radio stations have to be so ageist? They play David Guetta all the time and do they not realise he is nearing 50?

Guetta is a DJ, not a singer. He usually has much younger guest vocalists featured.

Posted by: SKOB Nov 15 2015, 02:49 PM

Radio isn't ageist by default. It's all about the audience of a radio channel. Pop stars over 50 do get some airplay but not on the stations that aim at teens or under 30 year olds. It's the same in tv.

If Madonna isn't relevant for teenagers in 2015 why would a channel playing music for teenagers play Madonna? The quality of music is not really the (only) factor.

Posted by: torresgirl Nov 15 2015, 03:01 PM

I understand the general point about Radio 1/Capital catering for the young/teenagers etc but Ben fits pretty much the same demographic as Olly Murs (women of all ages and men like him too) and he gets playlisted all the time. Isn't he also a couple of years past 30? You only have to look at the people queuing at Ben's signing in Newcastle today (as well as his Facebook/Twitter) to see there are plenty of teenager there. Who's to say if he got that Radio 1/Capital airplay he wouldn't pick up many more? I would love to understand how they make these decisions. Why does Olly get hammered and Ben gets nothing? He hasn't released covers, its all original and written/co written by him etc. If it was X Factor snobbery (which is a hurdle) surely Olly who is so involved in the XF machine would be a prime candidate for no airplay, Maybe actually winning is a curse as some people say! !

Posted by: JosephStyles Nov 15 2015, 03:10 PM

I think it's quite clear that Olly and Ben are not the same type of artist. Olly's music is current and appeals to a wide range of ages. Second Hand Heart (which I do quite like, for the record) is quite clearly a Radio 2 song. Sure, Ben may have some younger fans, but typically he'll be aiming at a Radio 2 audience with that type of music whereas Olly's music is catered to both I think. It's not even to do with ages, it's the type of music they make. Olly and Ben are very different artists.

Olly started out significantly younger. He was 25 when he was on the X Factor. Also, his music is way more poppy.

Posted by: Dobbo Nov 15 2015, 03:17 PM

Had Ben entered at a younger age he would have probably got more support, that's just the way it is.

Posted by: JimmyT Nov 15 2015, 03:31 PM

There are lots of successful and relevant male artists over 30 (Bruno Mars, Adam Levine, Calvin Harris, Kanye, Eminem etc etc). Age is a factor but those shows are so narrow and dated in terms of musical content and production it doesnt do the contestants (or winner) any favours in the 'cool stakes'.

Posted by: Aphrodite Nov 15 2015, 03:44 PM

Ben Haenow's album is a solid, i hope he can manage to sell through the x mas market and build up sales. Another factor performance would be great help but it wont happen as the winners like everyone else get one performance only.

Ben turned 30 in January. Hit radio stations (Capital, BBC Radio 1) think he is too old for their target audience and that he is too uncool. And the support of Capital ans BBC Radio 1 are crucial for post show success.

I'm not too sure about that. I think if he can get Heart/BBC Radio 2/Magic FM support, that should be enough to sustain album sales and singles. Heart play has been keeping the single nice and stable on iTunes in the 15-20 region. I can see it going silver and the album going gold at least, which I think is good. He just needs good marketing, but it seems Syco are paying more attention to Fleur than Ben, whiich isn't helping.

Yes they are two of my favs along with Testify/Every Tear You Cry. It's been rumoured for a long time that the second single will be Slamming Doors, which I do like and is a good solid song but not as good as those imo.

I wonder if Syco will be looking at the sales figures themselves rather than the chart position? I think Ben will be lucky to stay within the top 10, but whether Syco will deem that a good enough result I don't know. I think Ben has been setback slightly by not being able to promote "Second Hand Heart" by actually performing it with Kelly who's on voice rest. If she wasn't they could have done Children in Need, The Graham Norton Show and so on (providing Cowell was open to it). I'm disappointed for him but all they are doing is proving the males "winners curse".

They need to rethink their strategy with winners (male, female or whatever). Going AWOL for 10 months or more works if you're someone like Adele who has a connection with people. It doesn't work with new artists. If they can't get new material out immediately they need to keep gigging, YouTube covers and so on. The record company should arrange performances at major events and so on. I don't think age has much to do with it, if so I think it's very unfair - it should really be about the material and his appeal first and foremost. So what if he's 30?

Do we see this weeks No. 1 breaking 100k sales?

Posted by: Bré Nov 15 2015, 09:56 PM

Sam Bailey's album was a pretty decent selling #1 and she was still dropped within a year. Ben Haenow was never going to be a major success and he will do a Matt Cardle at the very best.

Probably not, they're looking at doing, optimistically, 30k this week. That'd still be 10k off Gold. next week 100% though which is still impressive!

Sadly 'Love Me Like You' is only #13, and that's with streaming missing.

Posted by: liamk97 Nov 16 2015, 02:40 PM

If Little Mix have any more promo this week, I could see 100k in total being possible. They were on track for ~55k based on last Thursday's update yet managed 60k so added missing data plus promo could boost it over 100k.

But as Joe says, they're currently on track to do 30k this week.

When streaming is fully intact, and with the probably free-fall of One Last Time this time tomorrow, OLT will probably not chart as high as this even if it's climbed a bit tomorrow. But it could possibly still finish top 40!

seconded 100%. i hate negative stigmas people seem to have built up against certain artists such as justin, 1D, lady gaga for example, saying that they're 'not invested' or 'untalented' just because of a certain image they have or certain theatrics they employ in their music.

I'm not sure what missing digital sales you're mentioning, nothing digital is listed on the missing data list tongue.gif (depending on what Amazon HD is but that's barely made any effect in the past). HMV sales will benefit 1D so the gap is probably around the same with Justin's streaming added (let's remember 1D are doing very well on streams too though).

Unless it picks up, Ben Haenow will have to settle for the bottom of that list. I hope it can pick up though.

That's a shame, although the charts are very different now with streaming etc.

wow shayne's debut can't have had much longevity to have opened with such a huge figure and then to only just have doubled that in total ohmy.gif

leona slaying <333 in all fairness, ben most certainly does not deserve to be bottom of that list but then i guess the sales climate is hardly at its best atm so he might just have to settle for a slow burner (that's providing he can get more than a semi-mediocre hit out of it).

It did reasonable enough in terms of its chart run, but as you can see there are worse offenders on that list for not selling a lot more than their opening weeks.

Ben will end up with the lowest peak for a winner's debut album too so it's not the fault of the low sales climate either. Seems he's just not catching the public's imagination.

oh no, obviously it's not solely down to the sales climate but i was just thinking, say if this album were released in 2011's fourth quarter, he may have garnered a higher opening tally then perhaps joe or leon.

Unlikely, two days of Spotify data is missing and Justin is considerably further ahead there.

looks like the tussle between adele and bieber will go down to the wire, although 'sorry' has a streaming advantage, 'hello' should enjoy a boost ahead of the release of '25'~

Surprised to see Anastacia still top 20 but then again a new hits collection is probably more likely to puck up casual buyers than an album of new material. Hope she can hold.

well this completely untrue. sure, streaming helps him out a lot however that does not go to say that without it, his sales would render him unsuccessful in any sense of the word. sorry is currently at number two on itunes and has been so now for nearly a month, what do you mean? upon realease shot straight to number one on itunes and remained there for weeks; on top of this, the majority of his units are made up of sales not streams.

anyway, even if streaming were to account for the majority of his chart success, the chart is a rundown of the uk's most popular songs of the week, it says a lot about bieber's popularity if his streaming success is being matched by few; streaming should not be discredited.

After assessing the sales info, it looks pretty much Justin will have the #1 spot by the end of the week, once all the data is collected, at least Justin get a week with Sorry. I've never expected Justin to have 2 #1s back to back in just over a few weeks.

Adele will re-take it next week, with the album out and the Adele at the BBC TV special on Friday after Eastenders.

Justin Bieber could possibly have 3 #1s very close to each other actually, as the next single is already doing really well from cherry-picks/being top 3 on streams

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 16 2015, 07:15 PM

Sorry guys! Apologies if the comment caused offense -- obviously it did not mean to, was not personal and was just a silly comparison.

It's worth noting that a huge 70% of Bieber's album sales are digital: his album is the biggest selling album on that format, but only the fourth on physicals, behind 1D, ELO (who are only 2k behind 1D! ohmy.gif ) and Elvis. Unexpected that his digital sales are much higher than his physicals (though I am surprised the ratio is so large) but very interesting!

Posted by: Beth Green Nov 16 2015, 07:26 PM

in usa also not many people are buying bieb's album in stores... so he is selling the physical copies for $4 to beat 1d.. his album is kinda boring too.

To be fair, no other winner had to release their album in a very busy week. The only hope is that One Direction & Justin Bieber's sales push up the overall sales so Ben could end up at, say, #7 but with a respectable total of 40-50k.

Even in the worst case scenario that Ben is dropped at some point next year I imagine that there would be at least someone willing to snap him up. He has far more charisma and likeability than Leon and Steve. Joe obviously went on Popstar to Operastar and is doing well for himself, will be interesting to see whether two years of touring will help his sales figures.

Hello and welcome! I hope that you enjoy your time here.

Is it being sold for $4 in US stores? I know that digital services such as Amazon MP3 and other online organisations sometimes sell records for a low price -- usually $3.99, or this may have changed since I last checked -- but there's an obligation that if an album is selling at too low of a price the sales coming from said organisation will not be counted towards the sale. I don't think it's a surprise at all that Purpose is selling more than Made in the A.M. in America.

i'm nearly 100% sure that 1D should take the number one on upwards of 100k. justin should debut with a respectable 80-100k sales i reckon.

as for the us, now i think that chart battle could go either way. i'd say justin will take it but i should imagine the sales difference will be quite similar to that of over here.

There's currently a 14k gap between the two and 1D sold 2k more than Justin yesterday so I can't see the gap being closed within the remaining four days, 1D's sales won't collapse that much!

Looks like One Direction will be selling less than Pink Floyd (139,351) and the total they managed for Four: 141,780 and likely the lowest debut to-date, previously Up All Night which sold 138,631 in its first frame back in 2011.

Diminishing returns and a pretty sorry looking albums market.

Posted by: gooddelta Nov 16 2015, 11:45 PM

It's obvious their star has faded slightly since Zayn's departure though so it's not exactly surprising to see lower sales, particularly considering the album is sonically a retread of everything that's gone before it. Had they taken some sort of major and interesting risk with their sound it might have appealed to more people (or indeed not and could have delivered them a complete flop album, at least the safe option bags them a few more hits laugh.gif)

Yeah the timing of Jackson's death meant that the sales were split badly across two weeks (he died on Thursday).
He still managed two in the Top10 at the same time - Man In The Mirror and Billie Jean were #2 and #10.
Thriller and Smooth Criminal were #12 and #13.
If he died a day or two earlier (or maybe later!) he could have easily had 3 or 4 singles in the top 10, including a #1 for Man In The Mirror.

Personally I think it's just a continuation of the decline they were facing before Zayn left. They're just getting more and more fanbase-exclusive by the day really, and I think if anything that process has been a bit slowed down by Zayn leaving because that proved that they were still very relevant as a group. I think they're definitely taking a hiatus at the right time.

She was at 1, 5, & 15 on 10th August & 1, 2, & 19 on 17th August.

1D sold 7.4k yesterday whereas JB sold 11.1k. Therefore Justin may have a chance of getting #1 - 1D are currently on track for 95k and JB is on track for 91k. Elvis will get #3 easily (outsold 1D too, with 9.1k yesterday).

By the way, 'Love Me Like You' is still at #13; Anastacia's GH is holding up nicely at #19.

And what about their album tracks?

Justin Bieber Update
001. Sorry
004. Love Yourself *
006. What Do You Mean?
019. I'll Show You
039. Where Are You Now? (with Skrillex & Diplo)
041. Mark My Words *
042. The Feeling *
043. Company *
047. Purpose *
050. Children *
053. No Pressure (ft. Big Sean) *
060. No Sense (ft. Travis Scott) *
067. Life is Worth Living *
071. Been You *
082. We Are (ft. Nas) *
086. Get Used to Me *
096. Trust *
102. All In It *

One Direction Update
009. Perfect
035. Drag Me Down
066. History
070. Olivia *
073. End of the Day
074. If I Could Fly *
078. Love You Goodbye
081. A.M *
084. Temporary Fix *
087. Never Enough *

090. Infinity
091. Hey Angel *
093. Wolves
099. Walking in the Wind *
100. I Want to Write You a Song *
106. Long Way Down *

I'm guessing that's every single track from both albums - would be quite extraordinary if all tracks could make the Top 100! That might have happened once before for one album but surely not two albums in the same week.

I'm guessing 'Love Me Like You' will sadly fall a couple of places by Sunday, its streaming position seems to have taken a dive.

Even if Bieber is selling more than 1D now, I don't think he'll do enough to take the #1.

Justin Bieber - "Love Yourself" could overtake Fleur East by Friday and it looks like Jess Glynne will miss the top 5. Also, I hope Eagles Of Death Metal can push KSI or Ariana Grande out by Friday too

Maybe not but it looks like it'll be much closer than anticipated. Obviously 1D will have streams missing but, looking at the performance of the album tracks, it would appear that Justin's album is getting streamed more so the current gap may be even smaller if all streams were added.

Posted by: gooddelta Nov 18 2015, 02:35 PM

Makes me think of a comment Olly made on the X Factor on Sunday (no, not the one to Monica).

He said something to 1D like: "so you're about to get your fourth No.1 album"

Maybe not, oops (although by the skin of their teeth they may just hang on).

Friday, you mean? Most streaming is added now, the main reason it's taken a dive is because about 10 Justin Bieber songs have overtaken it, it's actually looking to maybe get anew peak of #12, as it's now selling more than Sam Smith at #12.

Odd to see Ed falling following the release of the new edition but I guess it's sales will be a lot higher than last week. It looks like he released it just in time otherwise X would have finally fallen out of the top ten this week.

I find it vaguely humorous that one of the very few weeks over the past year and a half where Ed and Sam have not been top 5 with their albums happen to be the weeks they both re-released.

Mariah is 149.

Oops, old habits die hard laugh.gif well it would be great if it could get a new peak!

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 18 2015, 02:54 PM

It's also worth pointing out that the missing streams will contribute to Justin's album equivalent sales (the missing iTunes update on Monday's update has obviously done him some good in today's update too). All signs point towards Justin snatching it, and if he doesn't sales will be achingly close, and I feel for whichever of the two doesn't get the victory. Both albums deserve it.

Love Yourself will be at 3 on Friday. What Do You Mean? will be back at 4. Sax will drop to 5 and Take Me Home to 6... oops for Jess.

A perfectly valid example to show how streaming sales have stopped the dropping of digital sales, but also a taster of how it is improving album sales. We should all be for this instead of bashing streaming; whether you like or hate the artist(s) it's affecting doesn't matter: it's helping the market, especially the singles one, a lot.

Indeed! Looks like deluxe editions have nowhere near the same impact they used to, both Sam's and Ed's look to add only around 6k to their usual weekly tally. Makes me wonder if Take That and Olly might 'only' go top 20 again with both of theirs next week.

Then again, Sam's would have done better if Writing's On The Wall had been on it while Ed's also doesn't seem to have any sort of chosen single to support it (probably because the new songs are filler imo but hey ho)

Like Sam Smith, i expected the Ed Sheeran re-release to be much higher. One Direction will likely just about hold the number 1 by the skin of their teeth on what is also extremely disappointing sales.

Ben Haenow will just about (i am hoping) stay top 10 and Kylie will drop and will be lucky to stay top 15 officially (judging by sales, even Kylie's hardcore fans are not supporting this release).

Yeah, because Saturday and Sunday's Spotify data was added, and ain't nobody streaming that song. It's totally stalled on iTunes now, anyway. It's chances of even being top 40 might be slim.

Kylie needed to do much more promotion if she was to achieve top 10. I love Kylie but success will be harder and harder to achieve. A release like her current one especially needs extra promotion as it is the style of album that needs as much promotion as possible.

Never happened.

The Beatles and Madonna have been at 1 and 2 at the same time though, which is arguably more impressive.

Well yes, in those days you didn't rely on people streaming an album in order to generate sales.

Posted by: Dobbo Nov 18 2015, 09:29 PM

Well he did said "arguably" tongue.gif

Both are incredible achievements just for sheer fact of how rare they are. However looking to the future it's not completely unfeasible that a huge act will lock out the top 3 or even 5 when streaming is making up 90% of total sales.

Posted by: Doctor Blind Nov 18 2015, 09:31 PM

I fully expect at some point in the future a highly anticipated album will come out and make up the entire Top 10 because sales will have declined to such an extent by that point, that just by virtue of people listening to the entire album in order, that will generate ' a Top 10' . Who knows it may happen with Adele next week?!

Very unlikely , although we still don't know if '25' will be instantly going to Spotify. I imagine if it does the whole album will go top 75 but only a few tracks if it's not on Spotify. (and if I had to guess I'd say she probably won't put in there in order to maximise sales)

I don't think it'll manage top ten, but with promo near Christmas I think it'll have a few weeks top 20 and go gold, easily. Like Leona's.

Throwing it out there... These Justin songs all sound pretty similar - i.e. mediocre. I've completely missed something, clearly.

i agree all songs are similar and boring..

Some aliases in this thread? I don't know how you can say 'Sorry' is boring?!

Posted by: Zárate Nov 19 2015, 10:04 AM

^ easily. tongue.gif I listened to the whole album and I'd say I only really kinda liked 'What do you mean?' That said, its audience is for sure very wide now, because relying just on "adolescent teenage girls" you won't spend three weeks at #2 with very consistent sales and then climb to #1 on 4th week overtaking no more no less Adele's comeback single!

Posted by: Mangø Nov 19 2015, 10:23 AM

To say that Justin Bieber only appeals to teenage girls is laughable! That may have once been the case but his appeal is so much more widespread these days. I'm definitely #teamsorry this week!

Posted by: bobmoo79 Nov 19 2015, 10:26 AM

If I'm honest I find the songs on Bieber's album are similar but it makes the album coherent.

You only have to read the music press to see that Bieber has evolved out of a teeny bopper artist to something more mainstream. I would say this is his time right now. If not this album then his next will be his career peak. Guarantee it.
1D clearly haven't been able to make the same leap as Bieber and are still a teenage girls band and have fallen from their peak (although they were bigger at their peak than Bieber is now.)

I have to say that I find Adele way over rated. She had some good songs, but generally her albums are boring. 'Hello' is a perfect example - just boring as hell. The only way I can listen to that is if it's the Kiss FM remix. Much better.

I agree, although every artist may appeal more to a certain group I am in my early forties and have downloaded a couple of his songs.

Posted by: SmileyKylie Nov 19 2015, 10:59 AM

I agree. Doubt Kylie will get top 10 now in its chart run but if it can keep top 40 for 6 weeks of Xmas then it should sell ok.

She has lots of promo coming up in December and hopefully give a few pricing strategies etc + release of the vinyl album in 27th November could grab a few extra sales.

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 19 2015, 11:21 AM

Hello is a stunning song (as is Sorry) but how Adele fans can say that Sorry is boring and Hello isn't baffles me. Which song is better in terms of quality is subjective, but clearly the more boring song is Hello.

Posted by: Bré Nov 19 2015, 11:43 AM

Bieber is bigger now than he has been before because he's managed to extend his appeal and get people to take him seriously while also not alienating the teenage girl fanbase. Although based on recent incidents / stories about him, it seems he might WANT to alienate those people (who can blame him?) laugh.gif

Posted by: Noeyz Nov 19 2015, 12:42 PM

Surprised with JB 's sales .I don't think he 's doing well like that
JB has 2 big hits in this era while 1D didn't have a big hit .Their singles are only front-loaded
If i 'm not mistake ,JB has yet promoted his album in UK right ??

It might have sold less but we'll never know that. The point I was making is based on Kylie's album sales this week, it would have been enough for top 10 album last week.

Just before Joe does the full update, 1D were outsold by Justin by about 4k again yesterday and are currently ~7k ahead. Looks to be really close but I think 1D will just about nab it!

Either way, what an incredible top 2 on the albums wub.gif

Justin looking to have EIGHT songs in the top 40 this week, potentially a ninth with Purpose at #44! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Joe. Nov 19 2015, 03:44 PM

Looks like Sam Smith will rob Little Mix of a new peak with LMLY by about 200/300 copies sad.gif

Posted by: TheGrinch Nov 19 2015, 03:46 PM

Looks like One Direction will beat Bieber by around 3,000 sad.gif

Bieber have three songs top 5 is an absolute fantastic achievement, I'm going to guess One Direction will have bigger sales over Bieber but Bieber's streaming is making him close the gap much quicker.

Bieber having three songs top 5 though come tomorrow! When was the last time this was done?

Her sales have dropped by about 150. She sold just over 1k yesterday. 14,636 sold so far. It's be a top 5 album outside Q4

As said earlier, it hasn't been done before heehee.gif

Kylie's sold just over 150 copies less than she did yesterday (still over 1k though), so she's quite stable right now! (oops, beaten by Joe)

Posted by: Joe. Nov 19 2015, 04:02 PM

I'm sure Kylie will have multiple weeks in the top 20, and sell a good amount. It's bound to be a big Christmas buy for casual listeners .

Posted by: Cauldron Nov 19 2015, 04:09 PM

Sorry is so 2015. Sounds like Years and Years wrote it. It's ok but because there's precious little of Justin's personality in it that it sounds anonymous. At least Hello has Adele's stamp on it.

Sold 1584 yesterday and is still at #13, pretty disappointing sales for her, but she should manage a couple more weeks top 20 without promo.

Did you not read the part of the thread where it said John Lennon did it in 1980? tongue.gif

Several Bieber tracks set to pepper the lower end of the top 40 based mainly off streams - this is like what people predicted would happen when downloads started being included in the chart, except actually happening.

Posted by: Skylar16 Nov 19 2015, 04:33 PM

Wait... if we were supposed to do simple math from Wed to Thur update:

1D sold 85.5k - 80.7k = 4.8k sold by 1D

JB sold 78k - 68.9k = 9.1k sold by JB

So, now Justin is outselling 1D and outsold them by 4k almost twice their sales. Yikes! I bet next week Justin will beat them in sales.

Sorry to be repetitive but does it look more likely Sax will stay 4th now? heart.gif

Posted by: dandy* Nov 19 2015, 04:44 PM

I'm really impressed by how well Sorry is doing. I'd have preferred Adele to have held on this week but it's clear that Sorry has turned into a genuinely popular hit and it deserves it's time at the top.

I can see those three Bieber tracks all remaining Top 5 next week also, 'Love Yourself' still has very strong streaming numbers plus Now 92's release next week should give 'What Do You Mean?' a nice boost

1D's tracks?

“Perfect” #10
“Drag Me Down” #35
“History” #68
“Olivia” #71
“End Of The Day” #73

Then loads of album tracks outside the T75 including their tribute to Scott Mills “Love You Goodbye” at #78 and the lowest is appropriately enough “Long Way Down” at #107.

I can't see her doing that well. As an artist, she is really in decline. The first single has bombed and not much radio play. I think the album will drop a fair bit next week and struggle to recover.

Posted by: Regina Nov 19 2015, 07:07 PM

TBF Only You isn't really a proper single, she just put it out there to gather some buzz and ensure one of the songs was getting some plays.

Posted by: Bjork Nov 19 2015, 08:10 PM

actually it was in 1981 when John Lennon managed to get 3 songs in the top 5. he also did it during 2 consecutive weeks

10 Jan 1981
1- IMAGINE- John Lennon
2- HAPPY CHRISTMAS (WAR IS OVER)- John Lennon & Yoko Ono
3- STOP THE CAVALRY- Jona Lewie
4- ANTMUSIC- Adam & The Ants
5- (JUST LIKE) STARTING OVER- John Lennon

17 Jan 1981
1- IMAGINE- John Lennon
2- ANTMUSIC- Adam & The Ants
3- HAPPY CHRISTMAS (WAR IS OVER)- John Lennon & Yoko Ono
4- DO NOTHING/ MAGGIE’S FARM- The Specials
5- (JUST LIKE) STARTING OVER- John Lennon
