BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ RAYE - Decline (ft. Mr Eazi)

Posted by: cqmerqn 27th October 2017, 05:02 PM

Out 03.11.2017!

Full on bop, doing well on iTunes atm!

Posted by: Hissin🎇Sparkler 27th October 2017, 05:20 PM

Lets hope the song title is not an omen as to how this single will do compared to her last. laugh.gif

Don't worry... this is gonna blow!

Excited for the Mr Eazi feature!

Posted by: Cremey 1st November 2017, 07:02 PM

Feat. Mr Eazi heart.gif Can’t wait for this.
‘The Line’ was such a disappointment, I had high hopes for her. Hopefully this’ll make up for it.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 1st November 2017, 09:03 PM

Its been added to the Capital playlist already according to the website, that sounds like a good indication it could be hit.

Great to see Mr Eazi getting more exposure (he's on the new Yungen single too), probably going for that Afro-swing sound.

really?!?!

The Line was a defining song of 2017 for me ohmy.gif

Posted by: ML Hammer95 2nd November 2017, 04:21 PM

This samples the classic 'Always on Time'... I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Posted by: cqmerqn 2nd November 2017, 11:58 PM

Omg a huge bop!

Posted by: Cremey 3rd November 2017, 01:13 AM

No idea this would sample Ja Rule/Ashanti. Amazing.
Relies so heavily on the sample but I’m so down for that because it’s such a classic.
Absolutely LOVE this, hope it’s huge.

Posted by: HarryApa 3rd November 2017, 08:09 AM

Love this!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 3rd November 2017, 08:46 AM

On first full listen, this is very strong and has a real chance of doing well! Maybe the same level of success as Mabel and Stefflon Don recently (although I imagine if it peaks that high it'll peak in January).

Posted by: Joe. 3rd November 2017, 01:49 PM

The sample really isn't working for me. The opinions on this seem very polarizing but to me it sounds very lazy.

Posted by: Jack 3rd November 2017, 02:54 PM

I can't decide if I really like it, or like Joe said, just find it very lazy.

I think it is a clever move on her part though, it sounds like it could become a hit potentially. Moreso than 'The Line'.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd November 2017, 03:35 PM

The Line is WAY better for me, I have the same reservations about the sample, it does feel a bit lazy like "oh this works as a song already so we'll just do that" although I agree it's likely to be a hit moreso than The Line. It'll probably be like a low top 20 that does better on Spotify than iTunes laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 4th November 2017, 10:33 PM

Really liking this, waaaaay more instant than The Line which I never totally got into!

Posted by: HausofSZA 4th November 2017, 10:36 PM

A SONG.

Posted by: D0bz 5th November 2017, 02:33 PM

This isn't doing anything for me either, can they just push Shhh instead cos she's clearly never gonna top that...

Posted by: Ellie Goulding 7th November 2017, 02:41 PM

Up to 78 on iTunes, doing really well!

Posted by: burbe 7th November 2017, 09:43 PM

I want to like this but it's just really weak :/

Posted by: cqmerqn 7th November 2017, 10:26 PM

Up to 67 on iTunes now! Climbing very fast with no support.

Not as strong as The Line but this sounds more commercial.

Posted by: danVember 7th November 2017, 10:32 PM

this could be her Hurtin Me then? sounds like it could take off and it's not doing badly on iTunes considering.

Posted by: cqmerqn 7th November 2017, 10:33 PM

The Line only got to #50 with top placing on Hot Songs and 59p.

Soooo catchy!

Posted by: THEO. 7th November 2017, 10:52 PM

An Ashanti sample and multiple references to Beyoncé really does feel like she's trying to chase the early 00s revival trend. It isn't as bad as it could've been but she completely drains the life out of the hook.

I did like "The Line" for a while so it's a shame that that never broke through. "You Don't Know Me" remains terrible.

Posted by: jjake 7th November 2017, 11:35 PM

it’s a mash together to stuff we all really know and continue to hear on a regular basis when going out...why listen to this poor mans version when you have the superior milian song, destiny’s child etc

this is an utterly baffling way to launch a new artist to me; imitate a still v popular early 2000s track in a very non-description fashion and then expect people to be drawn to you?! baffling

Peter Robinson wrote about this;

QUOTE
Wrong of the week:
Raye — ‘Decline’
A lot of people — not least Raye herself — have worked very hard to get this artist into just the right place for a big pop moment to happen. It hasn’t really happened yet. Will it happen with ‘Decline’? If it did, it would be something of a hollow victory. It’s hard to tell if ‘Decline’, a cut-and-shut job that involves the chorus of an early 2000s hit, is the sound of everyone going hell for leather to finally make it all work, or if it’s really just the sound of everyone admitting defeat.

I agree.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 9th November 2017, 09:54 AM

I like the song but I can't disagree with that.

Posted by: danVember 9th November 2017, 10:04 AM

I still think they should've launched her with a stormzy remix of shhhhhhhh

Posted by: The Diplomat 9th November 2017, 12:31 PM

Disappointing after the fantastic 'The Line' for me sad.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn 9th November 2017, 12:37 PM

I think The Line was a perfect way to launch her career but it just never caught on for some reason.

Posted by: cqmerqn 9th November 2017, 07:44 PM

So this is really taking off ohmy.gif

Up to 54 on iTunes!

Posted by: Jack 9th November 2017, 09:30 PM

Is that really taking off though?! laugh.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn 9th November 2017, 09:45 PM

What? She’s climbing fast.

For at artist like her without Hot Songs, I would say it’s taking off.

Posted by: cqmerqn 10th November 2017, 08:56 PM

45 on iTunes rn and debuts at 82 officially!

Posted by: burbe 10th November 2017, 09:55 PM

I've heard this a lot on the radio! Can definitely seeing it being a decent running hit.

Posted by: cqmerqn 14th November 2017, 06:54 PM

Soo close to top 40 on iTunes!!

Hopefully R1 get on board, it’s track of the week atm. Heard that it’s being played a lot on Capital and Kiss?

The problem with 'You Don't Know Me' for me was the production, I found it boring as it was minimal.

Posted by: cqmerqn 29th November 2017, 11:39 PM

#37 in today’s midweeks and will probably be top 35 by Friday!

Posted by: cqmerqn 1st December 2017, 04:24 PM

#34 on the Official UK Chart!

Posted by: Mistletheo 1st December 2017, 08:48 PM

I really dislike this. It's so uninspired and doesn't add anything to the original. I think it's going to be her only hit (if it does turn into a hit that is), "The Line" was so much better but as a popstar she is just so faceless.

She's performing it on SLFN next week so I imagine it'll reach its peak after that.

Posted by: cqmerqn 1st December 2017, 10:08 PM

It’s already a hit..?

Posted by: Mistletheo 1st December 2017, 10:09 PM

A hit requires longevity. One week in the top forty does not make.

Posted by: JosephCarey 1st December 2017, 10:55 PM

Top 40 in only its forth week is pretty good going when she's hardly a big name. Everything's going pretty well for it right now so I'm sure longevity is on the way!

Posted by: cqmerqn 1st December 2017, 10:58 PM

I imagine she will stay top 40 until 2018, when ACR will hit it.

Posted by: SameBoy 2nd December 2017, 11:17 PM

woow, this is great, i gave my first listen this week and now i'm addicted. music.gif

actually excited for this cheer.gif

Posted by: Midge 10th January 2018, 12:24 PM

They need to release the Wideboys remix of this too; it's a banger.

Posted by: Dexton 12th January 2018, 06:23 AM

Ramz remix is ok, I prefer the original though - has more of a kick in it. I was hoping Ramz would just take over Mr Eazi's parts but it's actually made quite differently. I do love how RAYE sings the third verse though tongue.gif

Seems like #15 will be it’s peak. Not bad at all!
