Chart Analysis

It's been an exciting non-race for the #1 single this week as Duke Dumont is well ahead of all competition with 'Inhale', his first single in over nine months when he released 'Real Life' with Gorgon City and NAATIONS (a number four hit). It becomes his second chart-topper following 'Need U (100%)' which spent one week at #1 nearly five years ago now. He thus has the record for longest wait between two #1 singles as a lead artist. The record holder overall is Macklemore, who waited just over five years after 'Thrift Shop' to get a second #1 as featured artist on 'These Days'. On the topic of records, Dumont breaks one himself with the largest ever climb to #1. Last week he entered at #76 based on one day's sales, and so his 75 place climb beats the previous record held by Mr. Belt & Wezol, who climbed 40-1 with 'Shiver'. It is worth noting that before mid-October 2015 this climb would have not been possible, as the chart was a Top 50, so for official chart statistics this counts as a #1 debut for Dumont, which is the first of its kind in 2018 as all the previous #1s (excluding 'Lonely Together's return to #1) climbed from positions inside the top ten.

Climbing two places to #2 is Virtual Self (Porter Robinson) with 'Ghost Voices', which now matches the peak of 'Sad Machine' and becomes Robinson's third top two hit, also including the #1 hit 'Language'. This leaves Nora En Pure down to #3 with 'Trailblazer' following three weeks at the top. Fans of the chart may be wondering where the long running #1s have gone and to that I can only say wait until Calvin Harris drops his single with Dua Lipa in two weeks and maybe we'll finally get one again. Or alternatively, when Avicii next releases, because whatever he comes back with is guaranteed to spend at least five weeks at the top.

Finishing off the top five are CLiQ and Rudimental who both drop two places each also. Elektronomia & JJD re-enter the top ten, up three places with 'Free' following its BJSC exposure, and the song re-peaks at #9, where it originally peaked ten weeks ago. At #10 climbing in for the first time is Andrew Rayel with 'Horizon', also up three places. In the top 20 KSHMR continues his climb with 'House Of Cards' up to #16 and Sigala climbs into the region with 'Lullaby' at #20. Lower down the top 40 are climbs for Arty, Purple Haze, Dim3nsion, Roman Messer and Brunelle.

Despite the lack of new entries in the top 100 (only four of them this week) the top 40 has a good clearout with six new entries and a re-entry. The highest of these new entries is Duke Dumont at #1 as elaborated upon earlier. The next highest, helped by his now top ten hit, is Andrew Rayel (with David Gravell) who arrive at #28 with 'Trance ReBorn (FYH100 Anthem)', which climbs 13 places to become Rayel's second top 40 hit (the first for Gravell). Climbing 16 places to #29 is Dublin house producer Garreth Maher with Bobby Brown-sampling 'Every Little Step' which gives him his first top 40 hit.

Just over a year ago L.A. based electronic producer LIONE got 'Leave This Place' to #32 off the back of BJSC. He now, without such help, gets a second top 40 hit with 'Glimmer', which jumps 39 places to #30 to become his highest charting single to date. Also getting their second top 40 hit this week are British house duo Just Kiddin, with 'Indiana' climbing 29 places to #36. Their previous chart hit was 2015's 'Always There' (#23 peak). Different Heaven, a dance producer from Spain, gets his first top 40 hit with 'Goodbye', which climbs six places to #38. Finally, Axwell /\ Ingrosso climb back into the top 40 with 'Dreamer' at #39. Outside the top 40 are brand new entries from Phantom Sage (feat. Static Panic) (#69), Yungen (feat. Jess Glynne, Queen of Music) (#80), Dimension (#94) and The Thrillseekers (feat. Stine Grove) (#95).

Hello Dan!
I like Duke Dumont's new song, it's not as good as say "I Got U" or "Ocean Drive", but hopefully it will grow on me.
Great gains for "Cola" and "Sex, Love & Water", for the former one I'm really surprised that you gave it another gain.
And finally I really like the big debut for "Mind On It"!

Wow at Duke Dumont still waiting for it to really grow in me but it is quite a tune
Ghost Voices in the top 2 praying that C-List can do something for it

I wasn't overly keen on Ocean Drive but loved I Got U. This new one's brilliant though.

Mind On It is quite good, I was let down a bit by the hook though, was expecting more of Jess Glynne, Queen of Music.

Just giving that LIONE track a play, it's quite nice but not fully to my tastes I don't think (it would probably grow though) The vocalist reminds me of someone else though...
