BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Adele - Hello

Posted by: Liаm 21st October 2015, 03:05 PM

Not sure if the clip is the single, but it's confirmed to premiere on 30th October - next Friday! I assume it will be released then as well.

Posted by: burbe 21st October 2015, 05:19 PM

I thought the date hadn't been confirmed? I was hoping we'd have the release on Friday. Very excited to hear this!

Posted by: Hayzayy 21st October 2015, 07:01 PM

The song has been previewed during an ad on French TV tonight too, but instead of "…" we had "25" at the end!

Posted by: Ryan. 21st October 2015, 07:07 PM

Yeah they showed the new '25' version during Coronation Street too! cheer.gif

It has now, Nick Grimshaw confirmed it on Radio 1 apparently (I didn't hear it but it was all over Twitter).

Despite many conflicting reports and rumours, according to ATRL a US radio station has confirmed a release for tomorrow! Apparently Adele will be visiting Radio 2 tomorrow also but I'm won't be 100% convinced on this release until Adele says something herself. heehee.gif

It does make sense, so she WILL probably be at Radio 1 tomorrow then. The 30th was probably announced falsely somewhere, and it just caught on via the net, there was never an official word. I mean why would FE last minute move her single to the same as Adele's if it were next week? Also explains the gap in the R1 playlist and I wouldn't be surprised if the album pre-orders went up tomorrow with the new single as a grat, now that we have artwork and title.

Posted by: SeanGrey 22nd October 2015, 02:54 PM

It would make sense to release tomorrow to keep up with the hype!

I heard something about a performance at R1 on the 30th. So maybe she's doing a live lounge? Also, X Factor have been quite hush hush as to who's performing on their first lives next Sunday...

Posted by: SeanGrey 22nd October 2015, 03:01 PM

I'm sure there was an article about her being signed to perform on X-Factor at some point regardless!

Posted by: Joecula 22nd October 2015, 03:04 PM

Confirmed for tomorrow. It's called 'Hello' apparently and it's the one from the X Factor tease.

Adele is set to release “25,” her highly anticipated new album, which will be available globally on Friday November 20th and is the first new music from her since her Oscar winning single 'Skyfall' in 2012.

“Hello,” the debut single from “25,” will be available to buy and stream on Friday October 23rd. The cinematic video for “Hello” will also be revealed on Friday October 23rd. It was shot in the countryside surrounding Montreal and is directed by the celebrated young Canadian director Xavier Dolan (Mommy, Tom at the Farm).

Greg James has just announced on Radio 1 that the single and video will be released tomorrow.

Edit: Just read that similar info has been posted. My bad...

Can guarantee she's the 'special guest' on Radio 1 tomorrow morning that they have been frothing over all week on Grimmy's show... But hey, I'm happy to hear something new from this lady.

Posted by: Chez Werewolf 22nd October 2015, 03:42 PM

Hmmm, with these 'it's been a while' lyrics and the title called a casual 'Hello' as the title, I'd say Adele is trying to get a message to us thinking.gif

Very intrigued to hear this, will be very disappointed though if it's just a Someone Like You clone.

Posted by: mr_pmt 22nd October 2015, 03:50 PM

I can't wait to see how this (and the album) does.

I get the feeling for an act like Adele I can vaguely know what to expect, but still interested anyway.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 22nd October 2015, 03:51 PM

I thought it was being released next week Friday ? or maybe she's releasing another song next week as well. I'm excicted to hear it though.

OMFG cover please Adele.

(I am not that excited for this, I just pray that it's interesting because it'll be dominating either way)

"Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry, for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home"

Apparently those are the lyrics from the chorus. Not sure how truthful this is.

She's not confident enough to Beyonce it though ~oop which by the laws of pop diva battles makes Bey the most powerful complex bitch.

Posted by: Davidson 22nd October 2015, 04:36 PM

To be fair, I think it's better for Adele not to Beyoncé it. I mean, I'm sure she will have astronomical sales no matter what but I would quite like to see her get as high as possible and even break some records, and seeing as her fanbase is so wide with regards to age range, I think a held back release with matching the digital and physical release date is the best option for her.

It's 'ight. Her vocals are sfg as usual though! But where's the melody? I agree with Pav in that it would've flopped if it was by anyone other than her. I don't dislike it, it's just... there. Her vocals absolutely slay though.

Justin trolling Adele here...

The song is rather good. Some great emotion here, and I'll happily listen to it for now. Of course, I had the same feeling with Someone Like You, but any magic is so easily lost when you hear it on every corner of the country for 2 years.

Posted by: Common Sense 23rd October 2015, 08:05 AM

I must be the only one who's rather underwhelmed then!

Posted by: M4NGO 23rd October 2015, 08:23 AM

The verses are pretty average, but when that chorus kicks in, WOW wub.gif and her vocals are as stunning as ever. Good to have you back, Adele!

Posted by: Noahspook 23rd October 2015, 08:26 AM

Absolutely spectacular song, albeit very safe and somewhat formulaic. Feels like a modern classic from first listen, and not simply because it's Adele's big comeback.

Assuming this is about the subject of '21', it's nicely apt that she checks in with him on the first song from her new record after all the craziness that's gone on since.

Posted by: Regina 23rd October 2015, 08:29 AM

This is utterly dull and uninspired :/ but because it's Adele everyone is spaffing themselves over it. She is really one of the most overrsted artists of all time.

Posted by: mr_pmt 23rd October 2015, 08:40 AM

For some reason I wasn't really expecting much, but it's definitely all about that chorus. It knocks you for six!

I like the song overall though.

Absolutely aaahmazin!!!

Screech, take note!! THAT IS HOW YO SING!!!

LIFE.

OMG THAT CHORUS!!

THOSE VOCALS ARE BETTER THAN EVER!!

SOOOOOOO PREDICTABLE that those SCREECH TROLLS qould attack this. Jealous and bitter comes to mind.

The emotion. The power. Those vocals omg.

And that chorus gave me goosebumps. It just explodes out of beautifully soft vocals.

It makes Leona FUMF sound so shrill and weak in comparison.

Song. Of. The. Year.

I've listened to this a couple more times on my journey to work and the more I listen, the more I'm getting into it. Her vocals are really captivating and drawing me in!

Posted by: dhwe 23rd October 2015, 09:36 AM

I like it after a few listens, but I can't lie—I wanted those drums to hit during that first chorus, and I didn't feel the song had to really "build" like that. I loooved the snippets of the chorus when I heard them; it sounded like something maybe Sia would do (maybe because of Greg Kurstin, who's the common denominator here). But idk, that buildup really slowed the momentum of the song for me, I think. Contrast to when I first heard "Rolling in the Deep", which was me watching MTV at like 3 AM half-asleep and immediately bolting awake when it came on. Not that this hampers my excitement for the album tho—still really interested in what these collabs will sound like!

Posted by: All Hallows Peen 23rd October 2015, 09:45 AM

Loool. That is Justin Beiber!!

Look at the two pressed trolls loving this opporinity to press us with their weak Regina Hendi convenience alliance.

This song is amazing and I would be the first to call someone out, no matter who, if it wasn't - like Justin Beiber.

Amazing emotional song full of meaning.

Was a little bit underwhelmed at first (because i wanted an uptempo track to lead the album perhaps) but the second listen in and wow it hit me, such a powerful return for her which she needed considering the huge gap she's been away for. Given what she said in the letter announcing 25, I interpret the lyrics more as being written to a younger version of herself than to the guy.

The song is utterly fantastic. What a chorus. The kind of emotion you just can't fake. It deserves to be number one.

Posted by: James1987 23rd October 2015, 10:06 AM

I don't care what anyone says but this is such an epic comeback!

Yes it's a ballad and yes some might say its a bit 'safe' but the lyrics, the production and the voice are all there and this is why I love Adele. I love the fact she doesn't come across as a diva in interviews but a really grounded human being and she is easily one of the best singers around right now!

I am agreeing with you entirely. This feels a bit weird ha ha smile.gif

Adele has a good voice but I've never understood the fascination with her and the level of her success.

A lot people like how she's so "normal" but for me she comes across as trying to be normal and that's not the same.

Anyhow, we seem to be in the minority on this one.

Ah, that's really interesting! I was a bit thrown by the 'hello from the other side' lyric as it implied to me she's referring to someone who'd died, but it'd fit in with your theory in the sense of being post-maturity (and post-world domination). The entire second verse and other lines like 'I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be/When we were younger and free' still put me in mind of 'Someone Like You' and make me think the song's about her ex, especially with the love interest in the video, but you could well be right.

I don't think the criticism of the song is at all unfounded, it's definitely quite marmite: you'll either really be drawn to the emotion or just find it dull and non-eventful. I personally love it, although I think I'll have to turn it over if I start hearing it too much on the radio because I don't want the emotion to disappear. Less is certainly more.

Great thing about Adele is the emotion in that powerhouse voice, unlike Beyonce who has none in hers.

You could not understand English and still hear thw emotion, unlike fake emotion screeeeching and banshee wailing from you know who and others trying to copy.

I can totally relate to this and the chorus is f***ing sensational. Sold on first listen wub.gif

Posted by: HallowPusheen 23rd October 2015, 11:43 AM

Listened to this half expecting to be completely disappointed (as it's a BIT hard to live up to the ridiculous amount of hype). I don't think it's quite the moment that the '21' singles were, but it is an excellent comeback nonetheless, it does the job it needed to do with that killer of a chorus. Welcome back Adele <3

My first thought was the verses remind me a bit of... 'tell me' by ØRKA. As in that obscure D'yermak'er DNQ in the last BJSC I hosted. High praise x

Posted by: Chez Werewolf 23rd October 2015, 11:43 AM

I agree that it's nothing new from her, but it still doesn't sound stale, it just has her trademark sound, which clearly ain't broke, so doesn't need fixing atm. I'd actually say it's a lot better than Someone Like You and Rolling In The Deep, which I was never a massive fan of personally and that chorus is powerful as hell. I'm not even massive on her style of music, but even I can't deny that's how you do it. Sam Smith/Emeli Sande need to take notes x

In conclusion, welcome back Godele

Posted by: dhwe 23rd October 2015, 11:52 AM

I hadn't thought of the "letter to her younger self" interpretation but it totally makes sense. It's vague enough to be addressed to anyone I suppose but it fits within the alleged overarching theme of the album. (And it makes the song more interesting imo!)

Posted by: Davidson 23rd October 2015, 11:57 AM

Just put this full blast on the speakers and OH MY.

This is so outstanding cry.gif

Posted by: Robot 23rd October 2015, 12:10 PM

I can't speak for certain but I don't know if I've ever teared up at a song I've never heard before. Usually, you need a listen of a song to come out of it and go "wow, that was incredible" and then once you're used to it, know the lyrical content etc, you start to feel the emotions on a level you can connect with. But, I was genuinely just bowled over by the power, emotion and the general feel of the song.

I think the people saying "she's overrated, therefore this song is overrated" are just as guilty of pre-empting a feeling towards a track than the ones who are following the hype. That chorus IS undeniable and I can actually see the Sia connection people are making, I imagine this is similar to how people felt when they first heard Chandelier, and I'd have felt the same if I could tolerate her voice, but yes, that sheer wave of emotion that smashes into you from that first chorus is sublime.

Posted by: FranCAMstein 23rd October 2015, 12:11 PM

The chorus is massive, he vocals are absolutely incredible.

Posted by: Liаm 23rd October 2015, 12:13 PM

I thought Sia for the chorus too, I do love chandelier but I agree this is so much more emotional and completely clear voiced, but so powerful. What a woman wub.gif The reason she is rated so much is because she's an incredible talent who desevres it all.

Posted by: Scary Spice 23rd October 2015, 12:15 PM

This is spectacular.

Posted by: Izzy Dead People 23rd October 2015, 12:21 PM

I was all prepared to criticise this for being boring, and up until the first chorus that's exactly where I was going. There's definite power in that voice though and that makes the chorus pretty exciting. I can tell I won't want to listen to this loads of times so I'll keep away from hearing it on the radio, but that's far more of an interesting ballad than Someone Like You ever was. Gives me some of the same feelings that a slower Rolling In The Deep would. So all in all, a good comeback.

I really love this song a lot. I feel like I'm connecting to something in the lyrics more than I never did with 21. It's a song about the overwhelming feelings of nostalgia, that I can personally relate to. In fact, this is already my second favourite Adele after 'Hometown Glory'.

I agree fully with you. The vocal are great I will give it that but this sounds like anything that was on 21. Its very similar to SLY but with a bit more production. I don't get the craze over it personally.

Griff verdict - I like (on the whole). But not as good as Turn The Music Louder.

Posted by: Umi 23rd October 2015, 05:00 PM

Eh, it's pretty iffy honestly. Chorus is fantastic but it doesn't really feel like she had much of an idea for what to do with the rest of the song, and by the end of the song I was feeling a bit tired of the chorus so I don't think it's really strong enough to carry the song. It's quite alright but not the standard of the 21 singles at all.

Video is gorgeous but not much else.

Posted by: Jade-o-Lantern 23rd October 2015, 05:34 PM

I'm thrilled it's been such a triumphant comeback as this is a rather fantastic song with a knockout vocal performance. STUNNING vid as well.

This is actually getting better for me with repeated listens at the moment and I feared the opposite would happen.

Posted by: Delincuentos 23rd October 2015, 05:41 PM

This is phenomenal. At first I thought it sounded a bit too much like 21. But that chorus and her vocals are stunning and there is a change in direction which I love.
This already sounds like a classic. Could end up being her signature song. So glad to have her back. The vocals kind of remind me of don't you remember

Posted by: HauntedHaus 23rd October 2015, 06:25 PM

My first thought during the chorus was Sia too! I wonder if 'Chandelier' has set the bar for a new wave of big power ballads because this certainly continues and builds on that.

QUOTE(HallowPusheen @ Oct 23 2015, 12:43 PM) *
Listened to this half expecting to be completely disappointed (as it's a BIT hard to live up to the ridiculous amount of hype). I don't think it's quite the moment that the '21' singles were, but it is an excellent comeback nonetheless, it does the job it needed to do with that killer of a chorus. Welcome back Adele <3

My first thought was the verses remind me a bit of... 'tell me' by ØRKA. As in that obscure D'yermak'er DNQ in the last BJSC I hosted. High praise x

It's easily number 1 in every country except for Japan. Quite amazing.

Posted by: Klumpkin 23rd October 2015, 07:03 PM

Think I might slightly prefer the majority of her singles but it's undeniable sounds 'big' no matter who the artist is even on the first listen and she's done very well not to disappoint! Thought there may be more comments saying that it's overrated but I'm glad there isn't! It feels a lot more mature than what she's done before (which sounds really odd to say as the rest isn't 'immature')

Posted by: Colm 23rd October 2015, 07:07 PM

One my second listen. First listen was good enough to make me give it a second listen.

Objectively speaking, even if it was on 21 it would be among the best on that album. It is certainly effective at what it wants to do. There's a lot going on through out it and the hooks are gigantic.

Also, objectively speaking, if it was someone else singing it it would still be impressive so even though it's getting attention because it's Adele I still think it warrant at least half of the attention it is getting.

One the negative side - the lyrics are even more obsessive and retrospective than Someone like You - she seems seriously unable to move on to an unhealthy degree and hearing this nearly 5 years after Someone Like You it makes uncomfortable listening. And not in a good way. I admit that some indie/alternative artists make a whole career out of being lovelorn and slightly needy (The Cure for one) but from a singer this autobiographical it make he sound like she has a very unhealthy relationship with romance.

I'm not sure how long it will take to overplay this song. It's hard to describe it as disappointing but time will tell if it has the depth the last like Rolling in the Deep has.

I was expecting something really dull, but this is actually good, took a few listens to really hook me in. I can't see anything that could knock the track from the top for a few weeks, the only competition she will come up against is Fleur East at some point.

it really intrigues me to see people saying nothing more than 'this r adele by numbers' / 'how boring' / i am bored. i ask you: what were you expecting or more importantly WANTING from adele. i find it very telling she's referenced meatloaf in interviews (though the true inspiration for this song lies with roxette and 'listen to your heart'...) because this song is as EXPANSIVE as things get. we just don't HAVE power ballads in this day and age and the fact adele manages to bring a whole genre reboot 30 years and still be accused of being passé makes her all the more fabulous. DEFINING not biting the hand that feeds and oh so fabulous *.*

Posted by: Hennoween 24th October 2015, 07:56 AM

It's easy. Like with any artist in the music industry I want something at least a bit more inventive with each release. I don't think it's a lot to ask and I have every right to do so. (She's at the peak of her career and mainstream success so no risks will be taken any time soon). I am not asking for her to become new Kate Nash and completely ruin her career and sound by going too rogue but does she really need to go completely back in the past? Just get inspiration from the power ballad genre and add a twist to it. Making the song something new and exciting rather than relying on old clichés that proved to have worked back in the day. So yes, despite being good, this release is pretty boring.

Posted by: ThePensmith 24th October 2015, 09:39 AM

I think - and this is just my take on it - it's not even so much about the artist. It's the constant praise and hype of certain artists in a 'bandwagon' mentality as the saviour of everything that's a bit of a turn off (*cough*BEYONCEANDKANYE*cough*). Not just for me, but others as well.

Adele's never really been my thing, but I do accept she has a great following and from what I've seen of TV interviews with her she's quite a normal, pleasant girl really.

And the argument that comes back to anyone who's not that fond of it of 'Oh she just needs her voice to sell, hence the hype, YOUR MEDIOCRE FAVES COULD NEVER' is a tired one as well, this isn't CD:UK Hotshots in 2003 for Christ sake. If you're a fan of the artist, that's fair enough. I just don't take kindly to every single media outlet shoving it down me like I must pay attention.

Because in most cases with a massive song/act like this one, as lots of people jump into a 'I love it just because' bandwagon, there's also a ton amount of other people who jump into the 'I hate/not like the song cause it's massive' bandwagon as well, and it's also annoying.

I bet that most of the people who claim to hate or dislike the song would say they love it and how unfair the buying public is if this was to peak outside the top 20. But that's just my interpretation of things.

It's not debating though, it's someone saying they don't like the song and other people coming in and saying that the only reason for the dislike is that they are either bandwagon jumping or that they are attention seeking.

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 24th October 2015, 11:39 AM

It's not that. It's just the term you used, really. You said she was "overrated" which is what people were debating with. I'm not the biggest Adele fan. I find her boring majority of the time, but there are a handful of tracks I do love. But overrated is not a term I'd use for her. That's like someone calling Madonna, MJ, Britney, Kylie etc... overrated. Just coz you don't like them, doesn't mean they're overrated. She's changed the pop game completely in an era full of "basics" and is really one of a kind.

I hope someone can word things better than I just tried haha, but hopefully you see the point I'm trying to make.

Posted by: Regina 24th October 2015, 11:46 AM

She is overrated IMO though, to me all she does is sing dull ballads that all really blend into one. People put her on a pedestal and seem to fall overthemselves to praise
her for being so amazing when I think there are much better singers doing the same thing better than her.

This.

The criticism like Jake said is bizarre qnd meaningless.

She has reinvented a genre 30 years later with an expansive song which builds, dowsn't start explosively like with 21.

I think it's founsed on their faves having awful voices and no hype.

One niggle though: why did they keep the stuido mutterings in? It's weird to hear people mutter about how fantastic it is, even if it is, as it plays.

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th October 2015, 12:21 PM

I'd say it's fine to find Adele overrated, I just don't think you can not appreciate why she's had such a massive effect on the music industry with her music. I totally agree with Rich actually, I don't think people go to Adele for something innovative, you know what you're getting with her, without her actually rehashing her old hits (see: Avicii with Wake Me Up).

Posted by: Hayzayy 24th October 2015, 12:42 PM

I think it goes with the music industry, there are always "overrated" artists, and yes Adele might be "overrated" in the way that her sales are quite over the top really, but I'm glad it happens to Adele because she IS amazing and she IS really talented, so if there's one artist to be overrated, I rather want that artist to be Adele.

Didn't all the Adele madness start with the X Factor and the revival of "Make you feel my love"? The song originally peaked at 26 in 2008, but it was massively used in X Factor 2010 and peaked at 4 during the series, a few weeks before the 21 era started.
19 did well but Chasing pavements was her only top10, the following singles did struggle, until "Make you feel my love" was pushed by the X Factor two years later. I'm sure it played a massive role in her career.

I'd agree with all that. Then of course Someone Like You At The Brits and the rest as they say is history. I don't think 21 would have been half as big if SLY hadn't existed so there wouldn't be so much buzz around her new stuff. Anyone agree?

I think the issue is more when people come in and say 'people only don't like this because....' and the opposite.

I stated that I'm not a fan of Adele's music and though I can see why many would love Hello, I personally will not be listening to it an awful lot. I find it riveting that they went with Rolling in the Deep for the first single of 21 knowing that Someone Like You was on the album. I'm guessing that they just wanted to save 'Someone Like You' for the BRITs? (A very good decision ~)

Then again, her even being on the BRITs was a bit strange since she wasn't up for any awards so I guess they'd probably not have known about it that early. Not like 'RITD' was a bad choice anyway!

I'm also excited to see what's next. Adele's explanation behind SLY on her tour DVD was she needs at least one song she believes and moves her so she has the knowledge the public can listen to her music and believe it. She told Nick Grimshaw on the R1 morning show that her favourite is called When We Were Young and was one of the tracks she did with Tobias Jesso Jr.

I wasn't overly impressed hearing the preview that she used for The X Factor advert but, putting it in context with the rest of the song makes it truly special. The song is absolutely beautiful, especially when you listen to it with the context that she's talking to her younger self. The chorus really is magnificent and one if the best of the year already. heart.gif

I think the song is definitely distinct from what she's done before, I definitely don't get the comments that it's like 'Someone Like You' when it really really isn't. Not all slower songs sound the same!!!1! At the end of the day, Adele is a adult contemporary artist, just she makes the songs a lot more special and heartbreaking/thought-provoking than many of the others in that genre. She's not just going to turn round and do some trance or hip-hop track. laugh.gif She's good at what she's doing and her stuff doesn't sound all the same, there are variations, to me anyway.

QUOTE(Colm @ Oct 23 2015, 07:07 PM) *
One the negative side - the lyrics are even more obsessive and retrospective than Someone like You - she seems seriously unable to move on to an unhealthy degree and hearing this nearly 5 years after Someone Like You it makes uncomfortable listening. And not in a good way. I admit that some indie/alternative artists make a whole career out of being lovelorn and slightly needy (The Cure for one) but from a singer this autobiographical it make he sound like she has a very unhealthy relationship with romance.

Is it necessarily about that relationship though - she was abandoned by her father when she was just 4. Could be about that I suppose? Although Adele in interviews says the opening line was more like a conversation with her fans, she wanted to ring everyone and tell them what had been happening to her.

I was wondering if after all these years
You'd like to meet, to go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing

What a song! Best song of the year for me. That chorus is phenomenal. The power and control in her voice!

If it's not everyone's cup of tea, that's fine. If the song is boring or formulaic, I can understand that (although I disagree). But there are people who are saying they don't like her voice and that she doesn't have a great voice. How are you a member of a music forum if you can't appreciate a voice like that?!

Posted by: Dandyman*5 25th October 2015, 02:11 PM

This is getting better for me with each listen, it's actually really good to hear new music from her again after such a long (and perhaps necessary) break.

Posted by: dhwe 25th October 2015, 02:16 PM

I'm liking this and more and more too. I think my earlier criticism about how it "builds" came when the snippet with that final chorus was still fresh in my mind, so I was disappointed that it wasn't as immediate as I was hoping. But it's sounding better and better after a couple days.

It is amazing, I can't stop listening to it.

I still reaaally don't get the decision to leave in the studio mumblings under the track though.

I wasn't overly impressed when I first heard this and was rather underwhelmed but I can't stop thinking / listening to 'Hello'. The verses are much better than I originally thought and the chorus is even more powerful than I believed.

'Hello' really everything, it's a song that many people connect with, the lyrics are beautiful. 'Hello' is huge and deserves to be a worldwide smash, I really hope she does promotion because this era could be even bigger than 21 as their seems to be a lot more hype for 25 in comparison.

GODELLE.

Around 0.30-0.40 and 1.07 and a few other times.

It's in the video but also in the audio that leaked so I assume it's part of the track and not just in the video?

Posted by: MishaB 25th October 2015, 04:12 PM

This song is very remix-able and has the ability to interchange between styles. You could imagine the chorus being used on a rock song of some sort.

Let's be realistic - 21 is not going to happen again. That was a literal phenomenon. I agree with the poster who said that this is could be similar to MJ's Bad after the Thriller album which sold around 60% of Thriller.

Also, ^ yes she her beauty blew me away actually. She's certainly got more beautiful with age.

That's exactly how I feel about her voice. I would never say she can't sing (she can clearly sing in tune etc) but her voice is irritating to me. And this is made worse by the almost blanket coverage of her and being told how great she is all the time. Similar to how I felt when I finally saw her BRITS performance of Someone like You. It was built up so much when I saw it, it was like "Was that it"? It was a good vocal but all that adulation? Not for me.

Adele keeps breaking records. In three days, “Hello” has sold more than 750k across all platforms and could possibly finish the week with 1 million-plus. That follows the single’s new one-day record of 400k-plus.

Per label sources, "Hello" also set the single-day U.S. streaming record on Saturday with a whopping 2.3m total streams. The previous record-holder was Columbia labelmate One Direction’s “Drag Me Down,” with 1.8m U.S. in its first day. And it's not like Adele is driving fans to Spotify and Apple Music to get those numbers, as Bieber and 1D have done. Indeed, she's not doing anything—it's happening organically.

Amazing. 4 more days to go and should clear 1 million easily in the US for its first week!

I don't know how I'd rank Adele singles aside from 'Make You Feel My Love' being last. 'Set Fire to the Rain' would probably be down there too for being, surprisingly, the only 21 single to be faltered by overplay. 'Cold Shoulder' probably would be quite low down despite it being a really good song to return to if ballad Adele gets too overwhelming.

I'm not a huge fan, but she is capable of being fantastic.

I don't dislike the first two 21 singles, they were just so overexposed that I can barely listen to them these days (and Rumour Has It was miles better than them both anyway sad.gif). Hello would be right up there with her best for me, though not quite as excellent as the top 2. Why all the Skyfall low rankings? ohmy.gif Loved that one myself.

All 9.5/10 upwards except for the last two. 'Cold Shoulder' I like a lot more nowadays but back when it was released I didn't feel too fondly of it and was a big step down following CP & HG singles wise. 'Skyfall' I can appreciate for a bond theme but sadly the song tired on me fairly quick and now I find it a bit too boring unfortunately sad.gif

Some of hers have worked, some don't. It tends to be her more... engaging songs I go for. In terms of higher tempo and little interesting things on the tracks, rather than just stripped-back ballads.

04 Cold Shoulder (such an underrated gem)

Brilliant discography, I genuinely love them all (apart from 'Skyfall', which is good but never clicked with me fully). RITD & SLY also have been hit by overplaying.

Ariana probably does have the next best voice in pop tbh (and I can see why some people would think she has the best). Her voice is insane! The notes she reaches. But I honestly, hand on heart, don't think anyone comes close to touching Adele, vocally. For me the three best vocalists right now are Adele, Ariana & Kelly C (Leona would be very close)

Posted by: arianator_xo 28th October 2015, 05:35 PM

Adele has an amazing voice but she does not quite have Ariana's whistle register multi-octave vocal range, each to their own I guess

The only reason for the joke was because you brought Ariana into a thread that had little to do with her. Don't play the victim just because you're new.

Ariana has a very good voice but she's quite shaky live, she can't compare to Adele anyway. I would say Lady Gaga is even better than Adele vocally too, but they're probably the top 2. I very much doubt that any pop female could do what she did with the Sound Of Music thing at the Oscars.

Lady Gaga is not a better singer than Adele and neither is Ariana!

Posted by: Scary Spice 28th October 2015, 07:26 PM

This developing argument is silly. Whoever you regard as being a "better singer" is really down to opinion. Some artists have different qualities to their voice which makes them seem more appealing/"better" to you; to another person that same voice might sound horrid/annoying/whatever.

Posted by: All Hallows Peen 28th October 2015, 07:38 PM

Adele has an incredibly strong voice, range and can hit power notes without a thinning voice, unlike Leona gor example who is weak except for headvoice/ middle and falsetto. These are facts. It is a fact Adele has technically the best voice. Saying GaGa etc, who are good but not Adele level, are better is silly.

Having technically the best voice doesn't make her the best pop star. I prefer Adele to Leona but Gaga is more interesting to me.

You can't apply logic to taste. I mean I prefer Marina to all of them and she doesn't have the pipes of any of them - a voice is not everything.

QUOTE(HallowPusheen @ Oct 24 2015, 06:39 PM) *
I'm guessing that they just wanted to save 'Someone Like You' for the BRITs? (A very good decision ~)

Then again, her even being on the BRITs was a bit strange since she wasn't up for any awards so I guess they'd probably not have known about it that early. Not like 'RITD' was a bad choice anyway!

(Meant to respond to these over a week ago but never got around to it oops. Might still be of interest anyhow!)

I remember reading in an interview with the head of her label (I think!) that the original plan was for 'Set Fire To The Rain' to lead the album, but Adele wanted 'Rolling In The Deep' (and even considered naming the album that), which took a lot of convincing as it was seen as a risky choice in terms of commercial radio getting on board (lol). 'Someone Like You' wasn't technically made the second single until it blew up so much right after the BRITs (or possibly just beforehand due to the hype around Adele's performance?), where it was seemingly chosen as the track she'd perform so as to showcase the album/create a big moment rather than as the next single, as RITD was still going strong. So it replaced SFTTR, which was pushed back again. The original rough plan was that 'Someone Like You' would be saved for a release at the end of the year, as its potential was certainly recognised (albeit significantly underestimated like the entire campaign).

I'm nearly sure everything I've said is correct, but is likely pieced together from different interviews/sources!

RITD is more of a crossover hit too as it ventures into more genres and has more appeal. I think Take It All aside it was also the first song written for the album so I can see why Adele would want it release over SFTTR kink.gif

The video Harve posted is great!

Good, but certainly not her best.
A bit nervous and ring rusty...

She sounds a little off in parts of that. I guess it's probably just nerves.

Really? I thought it was better than the snippet we got Thursday of her Graham Norton special!

incredible!

i guess no one really wants to be uncomfortable watching a music video so a wind machine / broken heart / beige / pretty adele combo wins over tough imagery like this any day. that's sadder than the contents of the music video above too.

I want to confirm that I wasn't saying that the video wasn't creative or mind-provoking in my comment above. In fact, I thought the video was extraordinarily unique and fascinating. Though all I could think after the video ended was 'wtf did I just watch?'.

I have to agree that it was one of her worst vocal performances ever in my opinion. She can do so much better and I'm sure it was just nerves. She needs to do better when she does her US promo appearances. For someone who is considered one of the best vocalists of this generation (and I agree), that wasn't good enough quite frankly. I wasn't as confident in her voice throughout as I usually am. Maybe others who are not so familiar with her voice would think it's incredible, but I as a big fan can tell when she is struggling. Like I said, I'm sure it was just nerves which is absolutely understandable.

It really shouldn't phase her as much as it should - especially given how well Hello has performed already.

Posted by: dhwe 8th November 2015, 11:44 PM

Yeah, but she's described in interviews how badly stage fright affects her. I think it's just first live performance nerves; she'll probably be fine once she's performed it a few more times.

Posted by: Hayzayy 9th November 2015, 07:26 PM

Well I think the performance was still great !

This has gone platinum in the UK! Absolutely incredible! wub.gif

"Hello" is becoming my 2nd favorite Adele's single (after "Hometown Glory"). It is so glorious and I seriously can't get enough of it at the moment, I can literally listen to it on repeat.

It's definitely up there for me but in terms of lead singles it's my least favourite of the three but is DEFINITELY the best single to lead this whole campaign. I also can listen to it on repeat, it's already had like 68 plays on my iTunes let alone what I listen to on the go with my iPod! Obsessed much wub.gif

Same for me. It still sounds amazing and I could listen to it a few times a day and not be bored.

Doubt it. I'm not familiar with anyone at Purple PR.

Not sure on your punctuation though. If you don't believe I've met who I've said I have... check my insta. I have receipts y'all.

Fastest video to 1 billion views on YouTube, taking just 88 days to do it! biggrin.gif The previous record was held by Gangnam Style which took 160 days to reach 1 billion.

At this point, she needs to leave some records for other people tongue.gif
