Brits Critics' Choice winner Sam Fender has confirmed his debut album will be out later this year, he's also re-releasing Play God as his next single:

Really looking forward to the album!

Posted by: Steve201 Jan 14 2019, 09:22 PM

Love the current single, looking forward to this!

Posted by: lewistgreen Jan 15 2019, 06:59 PM

Pre-order is now available through his website. Loving his output at the moment, a deserved winner of Critics’ Choice.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 18 2019, 02:23 AM

Wtf he's so good, I didn't know what I expected but I'm here for him!! Think Spice is my fave so far but Play God is very good too.

Posted by: lewistgreen Feb 13 2019, 01:56 PM

Play God is Greg James’ Tune of the Week on Radio 1 this week so I’d imagine a playlist slot isn’t too far off.

EDIT: It’s already C List oop kink.gif

Posted by: ElectroBoy Feb 28 2019, 09:59 AM

Just heard Play God and now devouring the rest of his songs on Spotify.

Its all really good!

Is it true the albums out of been leaked??

I don't even think it's finished yet, I doubt it.

Can't find any mention of it online, would be a strange album to leak.

Posted by: Steve201 Mar 1 2019, 12:12 AM

I was listening to the iTunes thread when someone got Sam Fender mixed up with Tom Walker!

Posted by: Whoody4Paramore Mar 1 2019, 05:49 PM

Play God is now his first charting single in the UK at #95!

Posted by: Steve201 Mar 1 2019, 10:05 PM

Doing well on iTunes (top 40) and top 200 on streams!

Posted by: ___∆___ Mar 1 2019, 11:01 PM

Saw him last night in Brixton and going to his upcoming London shows in Bethnal Green & Shepherds Bush - I think this will be the last time I’ll ever get to see him perform in intimate venues as from the reaction last night and the music he’s produced so far he is going to absolutely smash with his album.

He said at the show last night the album is almost finished - some songs he referred to as ‘This will be song 2 on the album’ etc., - If it has leaked then its definitely not the finished/complete album.

Posted by: Whoody4Paramore Mar 1 2019, 11:15 PM

Don't worry, nothing of Sam's leaked. Someone got him mixed up with Tom Walker wink.gif

Posted by: Bré Mar 2 2019, 02:53 AM

I had no interest in him before but I absolutely love 'Play God', glad to see it at least going top 100 for him as he doesn't exactly scream singles artist.

Posted by: SLlewellyn Mar 4 2019, 10:19 PM

Just as "Play God" is picking up, Sam's announced that a new song is dropping tomorrow!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Mar 4 2019, 10:43 PM

Ah nice! Looking forward to that biggrin.gif

Hopefully we get an album release date and title as well.

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Mar 5 2019, 03:35 PM

"Hypersonic Missiles" is going to be premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show tonight.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Mar 5 2019, 03:59 PM

Fantastic! From the title I imagine it will be another politics-based song

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Mar 5 2019, 07:32 PM

Damn this is incredible! I can see this being my fave of his. Absolutely love the saxophone! wub.gif

Posted by: darrens94 Mar 6 2019, 01:15 PM

I love this new song it sounds a bit like The Killers.

Posted by: Liаm Mar 6 2019, 01:20 PM

Soooo melodic, I love it wub.gif This might overtake Play God as my fave so far!

Posted by: Bjork Mar 6 2019, 03:45 PM

very disappointing, this sounds like a Killers pastiche, too much of a copycat song, shows zero personality by sounding 1000% like Brandon Flowers

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Apr 3 2019, 06:14 PM

Hypersonic Missiles video releasing tomorrow! Love this song so much biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bjork Apr 4 2019, 02:19 PM

maybe it's cos you're a killers fan and you have killers withdrawal
cos the song is just wrong, a piss poor killers pastiche with the guy trying to impersonate Brandon flowers instead offing his thing and singing in his normal voice
major disappointment after the previous one was excellent

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Apr 4 2019, 03:12 PM

I love The Killers, this sounds nothing like them.

This is his voice lol, he sounds no different here to what he does in The Sound and it's a banger.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Apr 15 2019, 07:05 PM

Announcement tomorrow! Seems like it will be for the album biggrin.gif

So hyped for this album - I’ve seen him live several times now and am going to his upcoming Shepherds Bush shows, he just keeps getting better and better and I’m sure he won’t be playing these intimate venues for much longer.

Have totally been a stan for the album pre-orders so far!! But I have all his white vinyl 7” etc., so keeping the collection going.

So far I’ve ordered - Coloured Vinyl, CD, Cassette, Minidisc, Amazon Exclusive CD, Independent Stores Clear Vinyl tongue.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ Apr 19 2019, 11:07 PM

Indie stores were allowed to sell any remaining Record Store Day stock online from midnight tonight and Banquet have some Sam Fender 7” if anyone was looking for a copy (Be quick though they had 154 copies available and every time I look the number is dropping), so pleased I finally managed to get one cheer.gif

Patrick Topping Remix is out this week

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jun 26 2019, 05:08 PM

He's cancelled lots of festivals over the past few, and next few weeks due to illness, which is a shame. I was supposed to see him at IOW, but cancelled and was replaced by Yungblud (so I wasn't complaining tongue.gif )

On the plus side - hyped for new music next week!

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 26 2019, 10:23 PM

Was expecting new music in the next week with the album out in 6 weeks!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 2 2019, 06:41 PM

This is absolutely fantastic! Can't wait for the album biggrin.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 3 2019, 08:12 PM

The album has been pushed back a month to September 13 due to Sam's illness - he hasn't been able to work on it.

A bit of a shame, but I get why. Loving the new track though!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Aug 29 2019, 08:00 PM

Video for 'Will We Talk?' is out now! So hyped for the album - could be one of my faves of the year

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 29 2019, 09:23 PM

Same here albeit it's lost momentum after the current single which is t my favourite!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Aug 29 2019, 09:52 PM

That's a shame - I think both the song Hypersonic Missiles and Will We Talk are both my faves of his.

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 30 2019, 04:54 PM

It took me a while with HM but the previous 2 singles from last December and Feb were immense, think I like his rockier sound.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Aug 31 2019, 10:02 AM

Live 'solo' version of Will We Talk? recorded at Capitol Studios out today

Posted by: Juan Carlos Sep 2 2019, 02:32 AM

"The Borders" will be the next single from the album and it's out now.

My new single "The Borders" is out now! This is my favourite song on the album! Big love everyone! Hope you like it! ❤️

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 2 2019, 05:52 PM

Absolutely love this! Reminds me a bit of The Smiths (which is always a welcome comparison for me), and I'm happy it's a nice long track at 5:32.

Posted by: Bjork Sep 2 2019, 06:04 PM

bit disappointing he sounds again too much like brandom flowers
he's so inconsistent :/

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 2 2019, 06:10 PM

Or maybe that's just his voice? tongue.gif

He sounds no different than his other releases.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 7 2019, 07:41 PM

Literally can’t wait for the album - I’ve heard most of the songs at his shows and am so ready for him to dominate the charts.

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 7 2019, 09:04 PM

Can't wait for this. The Borders does sound more like Springsteen and The Killers than they do though. Roll on next Fri!

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 8 2019, 03:58 PM

He’s already racked up just under 16k on pre-orders from his website, launch shows and Amazon so should easily get the well deserved #1 place yahoo.gif Hopefully he’ll manage to sneak in the Top 40 singles too with ‘Will We Talk’

That's amazing! Where did you hear about those sales?

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 9 2019, 02:18 PM

That's class for him, prob helped by the long time the albums been on as a preorder and the delays - means he will likely sell 40k imo!

The multiple formats have really helped too - the UK exclusive mini disc has sold out along with the signed CD on his official website and 50% of the picture discs have sold too. He’s signed 6,000 CDs and Vinyl for Amazon which will help attract some sales.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 11 2019, 08:48 PM

Went to both of his album launch shows at Banquet last night - amazing to see him in a tiny venue although I know it’s going to be one of the last times. After his upcoming UK tour he’ll be moving onto Arenas.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 11 2019, 10:17 PM

16K pre orders is pretty impressive!!

I can see this being one of those long running like albums.

I have a feeling he’s due a big single sometime soon but it’ll come from a big TV slot promo boost.

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 12 2019, 08:15 PM

Can't wait to hear this tomorrow morning, even if we have already heard over half of it. Looking forward to listening to the singles in an album context.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 12 2019, 09:51 PM

Every single review has been positive so far. I think the first week sales and longevity will take a few people by surprise - it’s the R1 album of the weekend this week too.

The Guardian 4/5
NME 4/5
Independent 4/5
Telegraph 4/5
AllMusic 4/5
Q 4/5
Metacritic 84%

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 12 2019, 10:18 PM

Only 45mins to go - looking forward to giving this a spin over the weekend!

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 12 2019, 10:22 PM

^^ Literally waiting up to stream it and have got a HEFTY amount of physicals arriving tomorrow.

He said at his album launch shows there would definitely be a deluxe version with bonus tracks released too.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 12 2019, 10:23 PM

We should have a listening party at midnight lol

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 12 2019, 10:44 PM

I'm having a listening party with one of my chums at 9am!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 12 2019, 10:46 PM

I would tonight if I didn't have to get up early tomorrow - can't wait though!

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 12 2019, 11:01 PM

It's already an 8/10 without me hearing the new songs. Can't wait to see how the likes of Play God and That Sound work in an album context. The latter reminds me of being freezing cold as it was big (on the radio) in January! Dead Boys is a classic autumn masterpiece too.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 12 2019, 11:15 PM

Streaming now - Love ‘Call Me Lover’ also pleased ‘Leave Fast’ got included - such a Jeff Buckley moment!

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 13 2019, 08:50 AM

WWT reduces to 59p and up to #18 on iTunes - really hope he can sneak in the Top 40 next week cheer.gif

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 13 2019, 09:38 AM

Impressed with this after one listen, like the way the new songs generallly sound like fresh territory for him too. Listen #2 on an actual stereo coming shortly. The lyrics on White Privilege are brilliantly scathing! Wasn't expecting him to actually drop the C-bomb on this.

Also, https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/sam-fender-interview-hypersonic-missiles-new-album-a9097611.html is fantastic.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 13 2019, 11:37 AM

Just hearing this now. I had no idea he sounded as much like The Killers as he did!

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 13 2019, 12:29 PM

Okay this sounds excellent on Tidal Hi-Fi via my stereo. The Borders is phenomenal in album context. Love the urgency! This song is VERY Springsteen/Killers/War on Drugs but that's not a bad thing at all. Even though I'm more of a singles guy, I can see me going back to this repeatedly. The best act to come out of this part of the world in a long time.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Sep 13 2019, 12:30 PM

I'm pretty impressed with the album on a first listen. The Bandon Flowers / Springsteen comparisons are very real. I'd thought the same about some of his songs before the album came out. As The Killers' second album was very Springsteen-esque, the similarity to both is understandable.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 13 2019, 05:21 PM

Will We Talk? has climbed up to #58 this week - now making it his highest charting single! The Borders has also entered at #94 - very good for an almost 6 minute track.

I've just started my first listen of the album smile.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 13 2019, 05:34 PM

‘Will We Talk’ becomes his highest charting single climbing to #58 today - hopefully it can go Top 40 next week, and pleased to see ‘The Boarders’ has snuck in at #94.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 13 2019, 05:35 PM

Just posted that tongue.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 14 2019, 07:30 AM

WWT at #11 on iTunes yahoo.gif Really hope it goes Top 10 on there to give it and the album some extra exposure.

Also the album is now #1 and #2 on Amazon - can’t wait to see the first sales update.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 14 2019, 09:28 AM

It's top 10 now - good 59p reduction helping it. If Graham Norton was back he coulda had a release week performance sad.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 15 2019, 10:46 PM

I thought this would really struggle on streaming but it’s #2 on Apple and 3 songs are in their Top 100 tracks chart.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 16 2019, 05:53 PM

Opening on a massive 28,990 - so deserved cheer.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 20 2019, 04:44 PM

And it's debuted at #1! What a fantastic album biggrin.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 21 2019, 03:06 PM

Great start in the charts announced so far -

UK #1
Ireland #6
Belgium (Flanders) #14
Germany #19
The Netherlands #40
Australia #62
Belgium (Wallonia) #69

Also back up to #2 on iTunes and still Top 3 on Amazon so should have a strong 2nd week cheer.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 Sep 21 2019, 05:27 PM

What has he done to upset the Walloons? sad.gif

Posted by: Hiyaluv Sep 21 2019, 08:20 PM

Gutted he couldn't get a Top 40 single but great to see the album smashing it. Suppose he doesn't sing enough lovesick ballads to be a big singles artist. Nonetheless, three top sixty singles isn't to be sniffed at in this climate. I can't see me tiring of this album for a long time, he's making my stat-based personal chart a nightmare to compile! I hope he has a long and glorious career.

I was a big fan of those early singles that didn't make the cut so I've made myself a little fake https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3MSBRWisF4fPB1P9Cn8LyC?si=MzH5DA1hTOOqsXfpv3JOcg. Dead Boys has its cinematic long intro back!

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 23 2019, 12:23 AM

I've been getting into this album so much these last few days. It's really, REALLY good. So much more interesting than the bog standard British male singer-songwriter tripe we're usually known for.

'White Privilege' really deserves to go viral. wub.gif

He's great, listened to the album again this week and I think it's just hitting me - what an album!

White Privilege & Call Me Lover ❤️

Posted by: ___∆___ Oct 2 2019, 06:41 PM

Had it on constant repeat.

I really like ‘Call Me Lover’ but interesting in Sam’s interviews it only made the cut due to the record companies insistence and he didn’t want it on there.

Deluxe version has been confirmed by Sam and will feature some of the amazing tracks left off that he’s been performing live over the past year.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Oct 3 2019, 02:07 PM

Hyped for a deluxe version!

Posted by: Stewie Oct 3 2019, 03:42 PM

Great album, one of my faves of 2019

Posted by: Hiyaluv Oct 3 2019, 07:33 PM

Can see why Call Me Lover might be regarded as one of the more MOR points but I really like it and it works at that stage of the album. Sounds like it might be a future single if the record company insisted on it being on there? Plus, his previous singles have been much more uptempo so probably time for a bit of a ballad. I reckon it could sound really effective on the radio in the winter!

Posted by: Steve201 Oct 3 2019, 07:57 PM

Yeh it'll have a December release date I think!

Posted by: Hiyaluv Oct 3 2019, 08:20 PM

Thought The Borders was meant to be the next single but it will surely need a bit of an edit. And doesn't seem to have much of a chorus despite being fantastic.

Posted by: ___∆___ Oct 4 2019, 07:38 AM

I know an act like Sam dosen’t need a huge single to sell albums but would love him to get some hits - frustrating that WWT peaked at #43 and HM at #48.

I would say both of these, and “Play God”, have been ‘hits’; but get where you’re coming from... Would’ve been nice for “Will We Talk?” to sneak into the T40.

I could see Call Me Lover going top 40 if it were to be a single and with the right promotion. Hypersonic Missiles, Will We Talk and Play God are quite popular songs though it’s just their chart positions don’t show that.

Posted by: ___∆___ Oct 16 2019, 08:20 PM

Sam recorded Jonathan Ross tonight and will be aired at the weekend - great promo slot and the album has climbed back up to #10 in the miss today and should get a decent boost next week after the show has been aired.
