Using Belgium and their lead singer synonymously here. No intention to taint the rest of the nation of Belgium!

I was just playing, their frontman is a mess.
The rest of the band hasn't commented either so I don't think even they agree with it lmao

He must be so unaware of the reception that Release Me has got otherwise he'd hardly be slagging a winning song off like that.

He's well aware that they're still my 41st favourite in 2020 so I can see how upset he would be at the moment.

Hooverphonic are fab. Not so keen on this track, but it seems to be doing alright on Uk sales on itunes despite (or because of) the Furore:

The results of the UK faves based on itunes sales, not including the UK:

1. Far and away by a mile, Iceland
2. Sweden
3. Russia
4. Italy
5. Lithuania
6. Belgium
7. France
8. Azerbaijan
9. Denmark
10. Ireland

The only one other track that didn't register with me was France.

So Iceland would have walked it, and my gut feeling is that Sweden and Russia would also have been the main contenders for runner-up. The tracks I personally loved not in that top 10 I expect would have done better on streaming/youth appealing:

Germany, Bulgaria, and the one that wouldn't, maybe, Malta.

for anyone who thinks Iceland wouldn't be likely to win they've so far won the national votes for Italy, Finland, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Ireland and Austria: They have also topped the vote for Eurojury and Eurostream, highest entry in the UK iTunes and entered the Top 200 on Spotify AND sold out two venues in December in the UK, second most plays on Spotify after Italy, 2nd in Germany and Spain (after Spain’s own entry so basically first) and 2nd in Eurovision Online. I'm definitely forgetting something but yeah, it does look increasingly more and more like we would have won.

Iceland def would have done well and likely to have won. I just couldn't see sweden top 3 though, I could see it 6th or 7th.

I personally think Italy could have challenged the win. Or maybe Malta or Switzerland but personally I think Bulgaria would have been this year's Occidentali's Karma because a lot of people would have been turned off by the Billie Eilish comparisons. I've seen a lot of people say that it feels cheap and unoriginal because it's such an apparent knock-off.

highest entry in the UK iTunes and entered the Top 200 on Spotify AND sold out two venues in December in the UK

I swear I don't intentionally want to keep ripping into Iceland and I just want to provide a balanced view and am very passionate about NO song being declared the 'lost winner' of this year (mainly from casual fans or minor celebs on Twitter who've probably seen "Think About Things" because it went viral but haven't actually listened to any of the other entries) kink.gif Winning votes in multiple countries that did show all the entries is fair enough

I'm pretty sure the 'Oslo' in Hackney is a very small venue (guess I'll find out in December basil.gif) and Mahmood managed to sell out two London gigs towards the end of last year...despite the UK being one of only two countries to give Italy nothing on the televote last year laugh.gif I am 98% sure that the UK would've given 12 points on the televote this year to Lithuania (see also: our televote 12 going to Poland in 2014, and to Lithuania in 2016 & 2018)

Sorry again, this is nothing against you or the country, and a load of the other contenders aren't to my taste either (Russia is my dead last) so I wouldn't fight their corner. It's just tweets like this and this and the many variations that I've seen since the cancellation that really grind my gears and is the most frustrating thing about the contest not going ahead sad.gif

I think Italy could've won too, definitely seen a lot more people talk about that possibility since "Europe Shine a Light" aired, but I think that's more this unique set of circumstances distorting our views and in a COVID-free timeline it would probably have got a result more similar to 2013 as I initially thought when it won Sanremo

Now that you mentioned it, Occidentali's Karma does really sound like Billie Eillish ohmy.gif

Hahaha I mean Occidentali's Karma in the sense of people expecting it to win but it placing like 6th or 7th. The Occidentali's Karma instrumental does however sound eerily a lot like Years & Years' "Shine". tongue.gif

I enjoyed this show more than I thought I would, but I have to say, both Heroes and Molitva proved they are not strong songs and only work thanks to a great performance.
