just like the Madonna/Britney
another collaboration that looked incredible on paper but was a total mess was Shakira/Rihanna which was due to the song being terrible too |

The ones that explode are usually unexpected and the ones you think will be massive often aren’t that big: Robbie and Kylie Gary and Robbie Coldplay and Rihanna Gaga and Beyonce Madonna and Britney All reasonaby decent hits but I don’t think reach expectations or exploded. Telephone was huge? |

I think Whitney and George Michael's duet in 2000 was hyped up as a potential No.1 too. I remember thinking it would be and the Woolies chart had it at No.1, and then it landed at No.9 and disappeared quickly.
The track wasn't really up there with either artist's best and I suppose a duet between those two would have been bigger paydirt a decade earlier, but still, it was a surprise to see two legends finally team up and then tank like that. |

I do feel like with a lot of those big name collaborations, they have the potential to come up with something amazing but just spit out any substandard rubbish they can get their hands on as they're sure it'll sell on name power alone.

Reading through this thread makes me feel rather depressed about how the current state of the music scene is. It was good when Bob the Builder and Richard Blackwood were a thing General observation: Big stars don't put out their best efforts on features. For example all best Bieber songs are the ones that he's solo or featured with a "faceless" act. Not the ones with big stars (and man he's done a huge amount of features) This post has been edited by SKOB: 25th March 2018, 08:38 AM |

I really hope Clean Bandit don't go anywhere near Ed Sheeran. Or San Smith. They need to release their Jess Glynne collaboration next to give them another number one to lead the album with.

Clean Bandit x Ed Sheeran is probably not too far-fetched As much as I dreaded this collaboration occur in real life, I think it might happen sometimes because this collaboration are most likely been expected from GP and of course they're on the same label group (Warner). Same thing can apply to Dua Lipa, Rita Ora and even Charli XCX for the same label sake. |

MØ Off the top of my head Of course I know these collaboration (and Clean Bandit x Jess Glynne/Clean Bandit x Marina) already happened in the past few years. I mean it could be something like Clean Bandit x Charli XCX Jess Glynne x Marina ALMA x MO x Zara Larsson x Tove Lo Bebe Rexha x Dua Lipa x Rita Ora Okay these might be the most random collaboration but whatever. |

Big collaborations are quite often a letdown really.
Britney/Madonna, Beyoncé/Shakira, Shakira/Rihanna, Girls Aloud/Sugababes. Most of the time it's about the acts wanting to keep the biggest hits for solo purposes, so the collaborations end up with average songs. Telephone was fabulous of course. |

Not here for Beautiful Liar being considered a letdown when it's a 20/10 song *.*
