BuzzJack Music Forum _ Harry Styles and One Direction _ Liam Payne - LP1

Posted by: Maurice 10th January 2016, 06:27 PM

Liam is in LA with Juicy J apparently working on solo music.
Let's see if something from these recording sessions gets released.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th January 2016, 07:24 PM

Looking forward to his solo stuff. I think he'll be the solo star of the group. The Cheryl/Justin/Nick Jonas of the group.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam 10th January 2016, 08:34 PM

YES! Can't wait to hear some of this, I've always thought vocally Liam was the strongest. Though I don't know if there is enough hype around him as an individual for his performance to match that of Zayn and Harry. But it'll be fantastic none the less

Happy to have signed to @CapitolUK. They have an amazing history of artists, I hope I can follow in their footsteps

One direction will always be my home and family but I'm very excited to see what this chapter brings.

After Zayn the least exciting member to release a solo album( Louis won't release anything solo he can't sing).

First single coming in June http://abload.de/img/catturavqqz0.png! I'll make a thread when we have more info.

Posted by: Court 27th April 2017, 06:05 PM

Ryan Tedder has worked with him on some songs and described his genre as "straight pop". There have also been reports that his music is coming in May.

Here's the article with Ryan if anyone's interested: http://www.newsweek.com/ryan-tedder-adele-beyonce-abbey-road-589430

Posted by: Jonjo 27th April 2017, 09:28 PM

What's "straight pop"?

Posted by: Court 29th April 2017, 08:25 PM

I believe he just meant pop music. None of the boys have really strayed that far from pop but Nialls more acoustic, Harry's is more rock sounding, Louis did an EDM collab and then Zayn was more R&B. I know there was a lot of rumors that Liam was going to lean more towards R&B/Hip Hop, so Ryan was just saying that he's sticking to pop.

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 9th June 2017, 02:58 PM

Apparently Liam's got a collab with Zedd coming up ohmy.gif intrigued by this!

With a lead single called "Strip That Down", it's unlikely kink.gif

A song called Bedroom Floor has been registered as being performed by Liam, and written by Steve Mac and Charlie Puth!

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 23rd September 2017, 08:24 PM

The album is slated to be released in early December, while "Bedroom Floor", which is the second single, will be out on October 20 and the music video, a week later.

The info comes from http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/post/6275558/thread. Olly (the poster) is the source and he's credible. I mean, Liam announced the release of the single on Twitter today and he posted that info four days ago.

Liam confirmed it on twitter today but he said it in an interview like a week ago. I believe he also said the album was coming in 2018.

A song has been registered with Hailee Steinfeld!

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 24th November 2017, 06:04 PM

Slated to be released in January 12 according to the latest Universal press newsletter. No information about the title yet.

Posted by: Theo. 10th May 2018, 10:32 PM

He confirmed in the Live Lounge that this will be released in September. I'm guessing the label are assuming "Familiar" will be big over the summer and that'll be the lead. If not, expect another delay lol.

Posted by: TomboOnBroadway 11th May 2018, 04:31 PM

Exciting, I have loved his singles so far!!

Posted by: JosephAvery 15th May 2018, 03:47 PM

Supposedly out 14th Sept!

Posted by: pippa 16th May 2018, 08:53 PM

I had thought the album would be out much sooner. It will be like a best of before he even releases.

Posted by: Jonjo 25th May 2018, 10:56 PM

He's on Graham Norton next week biggrin.gif

Posted by: Juan Carlos 15th October 2019, 05:52 AM

Reportedly to be released on December 6.

At least two years after the boat has been missed.

Posted by: Calum 15th October 2019, 10:16 AM

He really isn’t in the best place to be releasing in Q4 (or at all really lol), this will probably flop spectacularly oops

Posted by: pippa 15th October 2019, 01:57 PM

It is a terrible choice of release date as it will get lost among so many other albums.
I would have believed 1st quarter of 2020 to release would be the best option with a single out in November and a strong follow up in time before album launch.

Album getting released 6th of December

Posted by: Jonjo 18th October 2019, 07:47 AM

Posted by: Rafael x 18th October 2019, 01:06 PM

Pre-order LP1, his debut album, out December 6th: https://t.co/bE1ds9KAKN?amp=1

Tracklist:

1. Stack It Up (feat. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie)
2. Remember
3. Heart Meet Break
4. Hips Don't Lie
5. Tell Your Friends
6. Say It All
7. Rude Hours
8. Live Forever (with Cheat Codes)
9. Weekend
10. Both Ways
11. Strip That Down (feat. Quavo)
12. For You (Fifty Shades Freed) (with Rita Ora)
13. Familiar (with J Balvin)
14. Polaroid (with Jonas Blue & Lennon Stella)
15. Get Low (with Zedd)
16. Bedroom Floor
17. All I Want (for Christmas)

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th October 2019, 03:04 PM

I don't have much interest in an album from him, but I'll probably check out the Christmas song when it's released in a couple of weeks and the Cheat Codes collab.

LP1 is actually a very clever name though laugh.gif

Posted by: Jay ☆ 18th October 2019, 03:10 PM

A good move that it includes all the older singles & collabs, that’ll certainly benefit his streaming units. I’m feeling too tentative to preorder a physical because I’m not overly keen on Stack It Up, and that makes me worry about the quality of the other new tracks, oop. I’ll wait and stream it, then decide if I’ll buy a physical. They’re certainly pushing the boat out with physicals!

Signed CD
Unsigned CD
Black vinyl
Pink vinyl
Blue vinyl
Transparent vinyl (HMV)
Picture disc vinyl
Cassette

The vinyl is just 1xLP; Side A: 24 minutes, 49 seconds / Side B: 29 minutes, 46 seconds - this is very crammed! 2xLP would have made more sense from a quality point of view.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 18th October 2019, 03:51 PM

He really should’ve released this in Q1 2020 as he could’ve pushed for a #1 debut.

Releasing in December is risky I’m sure he’ll get a top 10 possible top 5 debut though.

Probably good it contains all his past tracks too. I’m interested in checking this out.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th October 2019, 03:57 PM

Yeah February 14th would've been a good release date for this - away from the Christmas sellers at the start of January and in the middle of two big releases on the weeks before and after (Green Day and The 1975)

I was hoping he'd be the one to break out from 1D, but he seems to have struggled the most laugh.gif sad.gif

Pleased to see 'For You' and the underrated 'Bedroom Floor' make it on there, but like Jay, it's more because it's a smart move to get the extra streaming numbers.

Hmm I can see him missing the Top 10 tbh. I'm not even sure it'll recover in the New Year either as there's little interest in his recent singles and there's only so much streams from the hits will boost the album, especially when they're probably not getting much streaming action now anyway.

Posted by: Calum 18th October 2019, 11:18 PM

Yeah I really can't see this making the top 10 at all. laugh.gif

Stack It Up is easily my favourite single by him so far, so I'll go into this with an open mind, but let's just hope there's not a lot like Strip That Down, Get Low, etc.

at least it will be gold in US

strip that down 3xp = 300k

other tracks might give it the push to 500-600k

If anyone is interested in pre-ordering the blue version of his vinyl, it's currently only £12.02 on Amazon UK! I've bought it now.

https://amazon.co.uk/Limited-Blue-Vinyl-Liam-Payne/dp/B07Z7531JG/

I'm wondering if this price is accidental, considering that it's £24.99 on his official store & HMV? Amazon usually honours the lowest price you caught an item at during the pre-order window, so I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Posted by: Calum 23rd October 2019, 12:44 AM

Tempted to go and pre-order that given how cheap it is, but then since I also have Mind of Mine on vinyl, I'd then feel obliged to have a complete 1D solo collection and get Harry, Niall and Louis too. laugh.gif

I wonder if All I Want (For Christmas) is intended to be a proper single? It would be an interesting tactic for him to launch his debut album off the back of a festive song!

Posted by: darrens94 23rd October 2019, 07:46 PM

This wont sell much and be lucky to get top 20. I reckon Liam really should of stuck with Syco for his solo stuff. I know they have never done much for Louis but he was never gonna be a success anyway because in my opinion he hasn’t really got the voice to go solo so why spend time trying. Whereas with Liam there was a lot of hype before Strip That Down and I think Simon Cowell would of went all out on promoting Liam. He would always be guaranteed X Factor live shows and Final performances as well as a Britains Got Talent performance. I think he would be in a better position than he is now anyway.

Admittedly that review has come from Laura Snapes, who seems to be anti-anybody that doesn't stand on a soapbox and preach, but painful review all the same. I think this is officially the point where - Niall excluded - their solo careers have become fair game for knocking copy.

'Anti-anybody that doesn't stand on a soapbox and preach'? What does that have to do with this utterly terrible album? Laura Snapes is one of the better and fairer reviewers.

'Fine Line' is reviewing well, and I'm sure Niall could have a well-recieved album too.

I’ve not heard the album yet but I don’t think anything we’ve heard so far has been that dreadful laugh.gif

I still feel he has a fanbase though and may surprise and go top ten. It is his debut album after all and sales this year have been that low anyways it’s not like they’re picking up that much in Q4.

He also done a signing today in Newcastle and there was a lot of people there. The whole shopping centre was pretty busy too with people trying to sneak pics etc too.

Signings will be really beneficial as well I think. Idk why I’ve just always felt debut week wise this would do better than suggested on here laugh.gif

I mean a LOT of the lyrics are very questionable, and it's right that people are calling them out. But the irony of Harry stans starting the hashtag on Twitter when Harry legit advocates for treating people with kindness... lmao.

Metascore of 44 so far (based on 5 reviews), oops!

I'm quite shocked that at no point between the creation & the release of Both Ways, no one involved thought "hmmm, this isn't a good message...". It'll be interesting if he acknowledges the criticism.

The singles tacked on the end of this are definitely the saving grace on this. It’s not terrible, but it’s just very meh? A lot of the tracks are dreary especially Hips Don’t Lie what the hell is that and the lyrical content is a choice. Live Forever is probably my favourite amongst the new ones

Posted by: JosephCarey 7th December 2019, 02:03 PM

The lyrics throughout the album are really bad, nowhere more evident than in Both Ways drama.gif

That aside it's a decent enough listen, though unremarkable really. Live Forever is by far my highlight from the new songs!

This is a highly ignorant post - bisexual women do NOT exist for gratification for men, and Both Ways is in very poor taste because that's exactly how it presents a bisexual woman.

Posted by: linds 8th December 2019, 12:40 AM

God I never thought I'd end up in this part of the forum kink.gif

I heard both ways after I saw the controversy surrounding it become quite prominent on my twitter feed, I can't believe a song like this exists in 2019 tbh, it's just so gross and insensitive :') I would have thought someone on his team would have flagged the lyrics, I mean look at the amount of backlash Rita Ora got for "Girls' despite being a bi woman herself because of how it presented girls only being interested in other girls for male attention etc ofc nowhere near to the degree Liam's track has as this is ten times worse, especially coming from a guy.

The issue with fetishizing bi women like this is that it reduces a completely valid sexuality down to ignorant stereotypes and misogynistic ideals... It's why people don't think bisexuality is a real orientation.

Posted by: Rossco 8th December 2019, 10:55 PM

I’ve loved almost all of his singles but he is very cringe - he can’t pull off the ‘hip’ persona he is trying to with his music. It’s not believable at all. Such a shame because I love his voice.

Posted by: LMLou 8th December 2019, 11:00 PM

His XF audition shows he has a great voice, but his label are trying to turn him into this Bieber/Timberlake type figure that hasn't been "cool" for like 10 years now. The album is embarrassing when compared to the likes of Harry and Niall's stuff

Posted by: Wall 8th December 2019, 11:18 PM

Following 1D split , I actually thought after Harry he would have an incredible chance of solo success and Strip That Down smashed worldwide but since it’s just been a massive mess.

He won’t flop hard like Zayn and twenty singles on the album will help the streaming but I could see this debuting anywhere between 14-22

Posted by: Calum 8th December 2019, 11:19 PM

At least Zayn’s out here flopping while releasing inoffensive, authentic music

Posted by: Wall 8th December 2019, 11:25 PM

I’m not even surprised, the lyrics to almost every single he’s released is about his ego and sex etc, Jason derulo did it better

Posted by: Calum 8th December 2019, 11:41 PM

I've yet to see a review for this any better than 2★ ph34r.gif Getting absolutely slated online.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 9th December 2019, 01:55 AM

I think a top 30 debut.

Posted by: ThePoguesmith 9th December 2019, 06:57 AM

He would probably do well to sign up for either Strictly or the I'm a Celeb jungle next year. Would be a massive coup for either show if he did but at this point it's the only thing that's realistically gonna raise his profile as his music quite patently isn't.

Posted by: pippa 9th December 2019, 03:02 PM

He has had some success with his singles so his solo career is not a complete flop and we cant judge the album success just yet as its just released.
It is not looking good for the album and the critical backlash on the album is not helping him.

I mean a LOT of the lyrics are very questionable, and it's right that people are calling them out. But the irony of Harry stans starting the hashtag on Twitter when Harry legit advocates for treating people with kindness... lmao.

No matter how much you tell your fans to do or not to do something, it just will never ever work. Each fanbase has a mind of its own

Number 8 in the midweek information today, that is a good start.
Top 20 should be safe based on that information.
Many expected Liam and Camila Cabello to struggle with their albums, Camila is currently Number 16.

Camila certainly is struggling with her album!

In all honesty, just from reading the reviews (I have no intention to listen to a Liam f***ing Payne record) it reminds me more of when JC Chasez tried to have a solo career and went completely over-the-top sexual on songs as if he was trying to beat (off to?) Timberlake.

(with that said, I doubt Liam has any song as good as All Day Long I Dream About Sex)

I can't really see where the album campaign can go from here? Interest has waned and his singles are doing nothing.

There's no reason they couldn't have just put this out two years ago.

Posted by: TomHo 11th December 2019, 11:51 AM

The singles are definitely the best tracks on there, alongside Live Forever which is pretty good. The other new songs aren't really that memorable though.

Posted by: Calum 11th December 2019, 06:36 PM

From a BBC News article on him this morning, re. the Both Ways backlash:

QUOTE
So far, Payne hasn't responded - but when we spoke last month, before the furore erupted, he said Both Ways was his "favourite song" on the record.

In his explanation, the lyrics are about being open to new experiences and different sexualities, as we emerge into a new "world of 'love is love' and people becoming much more understanding about the way love is - and rightly so".

Payne indicated that the song had originated with one of his co-writers, adding: "I don't know who in the studio had actually been in this situation, because I certainly haven't, but it was an interesting song to write."

So he has absolutely zero experience being in a situation like this, and didn't know anybody in the studio who had either... but nope it's totally not fetishising bisexual women. manson.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 11th December 2019, 07:20 PM

The albums come too late tbh. He should’ve released it in spring either this year or even last year. Waiting until now feels too late and like momentum was lost.

Liam is a good singer but the album isn’t that great. It’s not terrible either though just doesn’t really feel like it’s personal to him. Some tracks feel like left overs from other artists albums laugh.gif

Posted by: ThePoguesmith 12th December 2019, 11:22 AM

Down to #14 in yesterday's midweek, which has now prompted Simon Boyle at The Sun to take all five of them down for knocking copy: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/10516711/one-direction-liam-payne-solo-disaster/

This definitely has shades of late 2001 when similar pieces were being written about the Spice Girls' solo efforts all tanking to a lesser or greater degree.

Posted by: Medellíam 12th December 2019, 01:08 PM

I don't get why Harry is being put in the same category when his album is set to perform really well. I've seen a few comments like this now.

I wouldn't Niall has flopped either - his single managed to grow with each passing week which suggests it was growing in its audience reach.

Posted by: ThePoguesmith 12th December 2019, 01:39 PM

I was gonna say Harry and Niall are the only ones doing anything approaching respectable chart wise at the moment.

Posted by: Medellíam 12th December 2019, 01:51 PM

They also have a sure idea of who they are as an artist which sets them apart from the other three, regardless of chart success.

Posted by: pippa 12th December 2019, 04:56 PM

The article would have been credible in years gone by when the chart format was different, solo Spice Girls getting a number 22 hit would have been seen as a disaster.
A Number 22 single now is perceived very differently for those who understand the charts.
Nialls Nice To Meet you have done very well and is not a flop, both himself and Harry have done very well and are both showing strong signs of successful second albums in addition to successful debuts.

It's interesting to look at their solo careers in comparison to how the Spice Girls fared — the press certainly enjoyed their decline, and it's the same here.

Posted by: JosephCarey 12th December 2019, 07:14 PM

That's an absolutely ridiculous article though I wouldn't expect anything more from The Sun. Harry "only" possibly being #2 in the UK is such a non-issue when it's clearly going to sell so well, and most notably, be an easy #1 in the US. Niall's doing just fine too, and I don't think Louis' album will end up being a disaster either actually. Liam's album performance isn't great and obviously Icarus Falls was a disaster for Zayn but there's pretty clear reasoning for both beyond "a decline in 1D's careers."

Dire journalism

I’d agree on that.
ZAYN I feel does have an idea too though.
But Liam and Louis I feel sort of don’t. It’s funny how Louis of all 5 become the X factor judge because he’s the one with the least star quality, charisma, and he’s the weakest vocalist.

Posted by: dannjohn 17th December 2019, 07:48 PM

It's an embarrassment without warrant... he's a name enough to have got a top 20 album I'd say... top 50 at the lowest... though surely his label saw the awful reception to his EP has a pre warning... Liam's music does not fit Liam... simple as... he should be making wishy washy ballads.

The album should have got a release last year or have been hold back until early 2020.
The material has got poor reviews which has been a huge problem and i do agree the style of music does not fit with Liam.
Most of work is feature based and this lacks identity for Liam.
I think he will really struggle hugely going forward with his solo career unless he can comeback with both a strong and appealing sound.

How is he claiming 2.5 million album sales globally, I can't see a single country where it has performed well.

I bought the album on CD (signed) and I do like it, some parts not so much.. It's almost a GH with so many singles on it, all of which I like (STD, BF, F, GL, AIWFCIU, SIU, P, LF & FY - 9 singles!) If that doesn't sell your album what will?

I like Remember + Rude Hours + Say It All. The rest is hit and miss but it'll do.

Posted by: pippa 3rd January 2020, 06:14 PM

Those sales are heavily inflated.
I would doubt the album has managed 100,000 worldwide sales right now.
The album does, climb to Number 55 in the UK this week.

Strip That Down has 11.5m units WW
Polaroid 2m units WW
For You was huge hit in Europe and all of his singles did well on streams, so...

2.5m units WW using the new method isnt that fake

I finally got around to listening to the album, and honestly... I don't think it's as terrible as it's made out to be (Both Ways aside, that really is trash), but that said, it's not great. It's a rather unremarkable set of songs.

Out of the first 10 tracks (i.e. the newer tracks; tracks 11-17 are all the older singles attached to the end), I consider Remember & Say It All as being highlights. Either of these probably should have got the single treatment over Stack It Up.

Heart Meets Break, Hips Don't Lie & Rude Hours are highly generic with some choice lyrics, however they're listenable enough. The production and his voice work nicely together, the main problem is that what he's singing about is very inconsequential. Tell Your Friends, Weekend and Both Ways are forgettable/boring/bad.

It's definitely notable how the quality rises with the old songs (For You is quite clearly the overall highlight on this album), but with them all thrown on the end of the album it highlights what a mish mash of styles he's tried out. LP1 might have worked slightly better if they'd attempted to mix in the old singles throughout the album? Hmm!

I haven't yet heard the 5 bonus tracks (Hurting Me / Before It Ends / Down / Trouble / Nobody Else), so I'll be interested to hear if any of these deserved to be standard album tracks.
