BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 24th April 2021, 01:55 PM

Lil Nas X looks to make it five weeks at #1 on the singles chart, while Russ Millions/Tion Wayne should make a big climb with the new remix of Body. The Weeknd releases a new version of Save Your Tears with Ariana Grande, plus there's tracks from CHVRCHES, Little Simz and Jorja Smith

Tom Jones is in contention for #1 with his 41st studio album Surrounded By Time. Among the new releases are Kaleo's third album Surface Sounds and Porter Robinson's Nurture, along with records from Dinosaur Jr., Chicane, Field Music and Motorhead

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.

Really hope The Pale White surprise and manage at least Top 15 with their album - brilliant live band and the album is excellent.

Looking like another extremely quiet week- think there will be hardly any new entries if any at all, nothing that big was released on Friday.

I think there may be a couple in the lower ends of the top 40 - Becky Hill, Years and Years, James Arthur and Bad Boy Chiller Crew could all just make it in.

While Lil Nas X looks set to secure a fifth week as the UK’s Number 1 single with Montero (Call Me By Your Name), Tion Wayne & Russ Millions smash their way into the midweek Top 10 on tonight's Official Chart First Look.

Body, the Drill collaboration by London rappers Tion Wayne & Russ Millions' is heading for a new peak this week, up seven places to Number 7 following its first appearance on the chart four weeks ago.

The track has travelled 21-12-11-14 and is now on course to break the Top 10 for the first time on Friday, boosted by a new video featuring Arrdee, 3x3E1 and ZT, Bugzy Malone, Fivio Foreign, rising female Afrobeats star Darkoo and Buni.

A similar jump is on the cards for The Weeknd as Save Your Tears (14) climbs seven rungs into the midweek Top 20 after 48 hours thanks to the release of its new remix with Ariana Grande.

A steady eleven-week ascent for Sydney rapper Masked Wolf continues, breakout track Astronaut In The Ocean (13) looks set for a further leap three places this Friday.

Meanwhile North London DJ and producer Majestic has his sights firmly set on entering the Official Chart top tier imminently following an unbroken seven-week climb. Majestic's remix of Boney M’s Rasputin is on the cusp of breaking the Top 20, up six places so far this week (21).

Further down, Rag’n’Bone Man & Pink’s Anywhere Away From Here is the most purchased song of the week so far, up 21 places midweek to Number 30.

So on SCR Save Your Tears would be quite possibly #2 in the first look, dropping to around #6 by the end of the week. What a shame.

Posted by: Smint 25th April 2021, 06:41 PM

What a disappointingly dull chart especially when Olivia Rodrigo's brave but excellent track is going in wrong direction. However geneeic unoriginal dance trash like 'Friday', 'Bed' and that ATB remake are holding steady.

Surprisingly 'Body' is far from the worse track in the top 20.

6 of the current top 25 in the US have been charting for over 6 months (and a couple others are just short of that mark). Just because we have a couple of songs overstaying their welcome in the top 10 right now does not mean the US chart is suddenly fresher in comparison lol ~

The timing of this 'Save Your Tears' remix is certainly annoying from a UK perspective especially if it does deny the song what would have been a top 10 peak but at least it'll keep the song around a few extra weeks + will very likely get it the #1 in the US which is more important than just belatedly getting a UK top 10 peak.

What is a "Big Top 40", an iTunes chart?

Posted by: steve201 26th April 2021, 09:38 AM

More or less, it’s whatever’s top 10 on iTunes on a Sunday afternoon.

Not quite, they used to do the iTunes top 10 but stopped in 2017. Now we have pretty much no idea what it's based on but they say it's some combination of iTunes sales, Apple Music streams and airplay from their own stations.

(And to answer the original question the Big Top 40 is one of the rival chart shows, broadcast on Capital and Heart)

Posted by: steve201 26th April 2021, 12:20 PM

So it’s based on nothing 😂

Posted by: Sour Candy 26th April 2021, 12:28 PM

Well it's nice that basically 1k of digital sales can get a number position on a weekly chart - just not the official one. laugh.gif

Posted by: Bré 26th April 2021, 12:42 PM

Usually the Big Top 40 #1 is at least something that's doing quite well on Apple Music as well but 'Starstruck' isn't even in the top 40 there either lol.

Posted by: coi 26th April 2021, 01:02 PM

I imagine it's their #1 just because it's been doing well on iTunes (with its rather insignificant sales figures) and playlisted by the two stations it goes out on! laugh.gif

Posted by: LiamSime 26th April 2021, 02:16 PM

I’ve always wondered where the other chart shows actually get their data from. I know the big top 40 uses a mix of Apple Music and iTunes but what about the other chart shows? I’ve often wondered if they just make it up lol

Tom Jones should do a Reload 2 next (Reloaded?). The original Reload was a monster success and impressive considering even then he was 60-odd. He's definitely still got the commercial clout to get some big name contemporary duet partners, and his voice is still strong. Amazing how essentially an easy listening crooner from the 1960s has kept reinventing himself and managed to stay so relevant for so long.

The Official Charts Company Midweek Sales Flash is in, and Tom Jones is racing ahead in the albums chart.

The legendary singer has 9,055 sales so far for Surrounded By Time, 7,957 of which are physical. In pursuit is another musical icon in the shape of John Lennon, as a new box set edition of Plastic Ono Band (3,101 sales) is released. London Grammar’s Californian Soil (2,936 sales) falls 1-3, while The Who arrive at No.4 with The Who Sell Out (2,690 sales). Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia (2,298 sales) completes the Top 5.

There’s precious little movement in the singles chart this week, as Lil Nas X looks to extend the residency of his latest hit Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which has 20,967 sales so far. Riton’s Friday (16,412 sales), Justin Bieber’s Peaches (16,269 sales), Joel Corry’s Bed (15,385 sales) and Nathan Evans’ Wellerman (12,911 sales) complete the Top 5.

Completing a trilogy of albums exploring his musical roots, Long Lost Suitcase debuts at number 17 (4,258 sales) for Jones, extending the 75 year old's album chart career to more than 48 years. Praise & Blame, the first of the trilogy, sold 31,209 copies when debuting at number two in 2010, while Spirit In The Room opened and peaked at number eight on sales of 9,886 copies in 2012. Jones had had 33 chart albums, 16 of which reached the Top 10,

what a tragedy we have this week that there's only 2 projected new entries and both of them are in the lowest quarter of the chart.
surprised to see London Grammar climb this week, but the song does sound like it could be a hit moreso than the rest of this era of theirs.
it's very great to see Paul Woolford turning around too and potentially re-peaking, could be a top 40 hit easily if Spotify get their act together and push it.
I'd really like to see Marea make the top 40 at some stage too, it's a very unique hit single.

Although with him only being #38 today, he'd have to be lucky to remain top 100 by Friday.

At least two of the reissued albums could get new peaks: on original release, Plastic Ono Band reached #8 and The Who Sell Out #13. Lazer Guided Melodies made #27 but I very much doubt it'll have improved on that by Friday.

That’s a pretty low bar you’ve set. A new single from Dua (arguably the most popular female artist worldwide right now) should’ve debuted a lot higher then #25, it’s being held up purely by decent playlisting. The truth is her/her team took their feet of the gas with We’re Good and it’s been a flop.

I love Dua and I have enjoyed the FN era, but I’m not going to try and make excuses for We’re Good’s underperformance.

It's a new single, yes, but from a re-release, not a new album. It was never going to have the same hype, and support as the 3 singles that were released before Future Nostalgia.

Also We're Good had really average Spotify playlisting and hasn't been promoted at all like her singles usually are. This is not excuses, it's facts.

The single has had longevity, boosted streams for the album - it's done fine all things considered. If Dua performs it at the Brits and it's moved up on Hot Hits then the song will get a better peak than 25

Posted by: Lee_J11 26th April 2021, 09:54 PM

We’re Good hasn’t totally flopped but it quite clearly has underperformed massively. It’s what it deserves though because it’s by far and away the worst thing she’s ever put her name to and is the worst of the 4 newies on the re-release. That Kind Of Woman deserves to smash.

Exactly. It's clear We're Good is only here to serve as a little single for the rest of the world to keep the era going while Levitating is still taking its sweet time to peak in America. Of course what they didn't see coming was TikTok giving Levitating such a revival that it may as well be the UK focal single once again. It's had a decent chart run for what it is.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 27th April 2021, 10:06 AM

Oh c'mon.

It's a brand new fully-fledged single from her during her imperial phase, it even had the video released on the same day as its release date. It's a certified flop.

Hopefully her team see it as a sign not to go in this direction for the next era.

Posted by: Dircadirca 27th April 2021, 10:30 AM

To be honest if I were a Dua stan I'd just take the L on this one and accept that the relative underperformance validates the success of her better singles. The exception that proves the rule and all that.

I can’t believe there’s such an argument over one song 😂 it’s a good song I like it, but it’s nowhere near her best which is why it only peaked in the mid 20’s.

Another slow week with minimal movement on the chart then.

Posted by: JosephStyles 27th April 2021, 03:53 PM

I wouldn't say We're Good is a complete flop, to still be top 40 shows it's connected to SOME degree, but it's most definitely an underperformance. It's had a big push here, and I don't think the excuse of it being a single to tide us over while Levitating smashes in the US washes either - We're Good has had a push over there too (#26 on the latest airplay update), it's just getting overshadowed (even before Levitating's TikTok boost).

Compare this to Physical, which didn't get a US push at all and was technically a single for the rest of the world to tide us over while Don't Start Now smashed over there, and it really paints a clear picture. Physical still became a big hit here with basically the same push as We're Good, the latter just hasn't been received so warmly.

It could have done worse, but it could absolutely have done much better.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th April 2021, 06:23 PM

With Dua Lipa, whether the song is classed as big or not which is the argument here the whole era in general has been a big success for her. Its only natural that not all releases can be monster hits, but the single has served its purpose, its kept her in the charts and kept the album selling which currently stands the best selling album of the year. My point is I don't think Dua Lipa will be in any worried that it wasn't her biggest hit. All artists at their peaks experience lower charting and selling singles than others especially this far in to the campaign, we all know she has both bigger and smaller hits ahead of her.

Preach clap.gif

And to say it's had the same push and hype as Physical is... not true. It's had the slowest start on Radio 1 of ALL Dua's singles since Last Dance, it was in the low 20s and 30s on Hot Hits until recently. Physical was instantly A-listed, huge playlisting especially on Apple, pushed with a high concept music video, the iconic workout video and the hype from Don't Start Now and being a pre-album single

People are really doing the most, just because they don't like the song. Her label are not bothered because it's done its job in promoting the re-release, otherwise they would have invested and promoted it a lot more than they have.

2 places higher

I know sales themselves are low and all that, but 'Montero' not even selling 6,000 downloads in total since it was released? blink.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 28th April 2021, 06:27 PM

I hope Becky Hill can stay top 40.

Posted by: Dot Branning 28th April 2021, 07:11 PM

Hope Masked Wolf is on for a new peak this week, would love to see this climb into the Top 10.

Posted by: LiamSime 28th April 2021, 07:22 PM

There’s a lot of songs hovering around the 40-50 mark that just can’t seem to get into the top 40- medicine, last time (although this could enter this week hopefully), don’t you worry about me, summer 91 and marea (we’ve lost dancing). Hope to see the majority of them enter at some point. Also still hopeful way too long can enter soon, it’s holding up fairly well on Spotify and Apple around the 50-70 mark.

Posted by: Smint 28th April 2021, 07:37 PM

Marea (We lost dancing) is absolutely mesmerising and beautiful. Love for that to be top 40.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 28th April 2021, 07:42 PM

'Marea' seems to be making quite decent progress week-on-week so I'm quite confident it will.

Posted by: Bjork 28th April 2021, 07:57 PM

Marea is doing great considering it's like track #65 on HH, if it's moved up a bit, sure it's gonna be a hit

Posted by: Bré 28th April 2021, 08:18 PM

Perfectly happy for most of those to stall outside the top 40 frankly. Although I would like to see 'Marea (We've Lost Dancing)' make it in.

Posted by: steve201 28th April 2021, 10:12 PM

Merea def the best dance track of the moment!

Posted by: Hadji 28th April 2021, 10:37 PM

Didn’t Know so close to outpeaking You Want Me. Also hope that Y&Y and Becky Hill can remain top 40 and that Russ can remain top 5 and even better, overtake Friday

Posted by: Sour Candy 29th April 2021, 07:24 AM

Marea would be among the top 3 tracks on top 40 if it got there. Gorgeous!

Posted by: Bjork 29th April 2021, 08:10 AM

oh my just figured out Marea is The Blessed Madonna's real name

I though it was Spanish, Marea means tide biggrin.gif hahaha

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th April 2021, 08:18 AM

I only figured that out when I saw that Fred's album's track titles were all based on the contributors' names laugh.gif

Posted by: Dobbo. 29th April 2021, 09:41 AM

YES Russ nail down that top 10 position cheer.gif

Will the UK ever get a two-week #1 album again, let alone more weeks at #1 laugh.gif

I've been wondering the same thing lately unsure.gif

Posted by: Bjork 29th April 2021, 01:15 PM

maybe Billie Eilish this summer?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 29th April 2021, 01:43 PM

Assuming Adele and Ed Sheeran release this year, I'd say it's a certainty.

Posted by: gooddelta 29th April 2021, 02:11 PM

It really puts the mega success of The Greatest Showman soundtrack into perspective. That blocked so many would-be one-week-wonder No.1 albums.

Posted by: Bjork 29th April 2021, 02:16 PM

The Greatest Showman would probably still be top 10 today if allowed biggrin.gif at least it's still top 10 on Apple Albums Streaming and has been then since release

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th April 2021, 04:07 PM

If ed sheeran or adele release they should easily manage fir than a week at the top.

Posted by: steve201 29th April 2021, 05:09 PM

It only happened a couple of times last year didn’t it?

Posted by: daniellovesmusic 29th April 2021, 05:10 PM

Are we getting a Thursday midweeks this week

Not likely, they are not 100% guaranteed every day. See Breakdown of the week on page #1, opening post #1

Lewis Capaldi and Dua Lipa were #1 for 4 weeks in 2020, Taylor Swift 3 weeks with Folklore and Gaga 2 weeks. Taylor's Evermore is the latest album to get 2 weeks at #1, one last year and one this year.

4 weeks seems like forever now.

Posted by: Dircadirca 29th April 2021, 05:26 PM

It feels like the product of a transitional period, where huge selling albums are no longer able to sustain those crazy high numbers for more than a week, but at the same time, monster streaming albums don't sit on a steady that's high enough to stay above mid-tier notable #1 hopefuls on their debut week. Granted there just haven't been that many Big Deal album releases this year yet, but if sales get to the point of not being a deciding factor, long runs at #1 will become the norm again.

Thoughts on the new billie eilish song? In all honesty I’m not a huge fan of her music it’s not really my type her only song I like is therefore I am. Not too sure on this one either it’s okay on first listen- question is will it be able to go to #1?

Posted by: Smint 29th April 2021, 08:03 PM

I think it will do less well than 'My Future' - just not commercial in the slightest. Top 20 on name power and then out top 40. Love it though.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th April 2021, 08:05 PM

I dont see it been a big hit either, a minor top 20 but im sure he next album will still do really well for her.

Posted by: Suedehead2 29th April 2021, 08:59 PM

A surprise new album from Lewis Capaldi could kill two birds with one stone. It would probably get at least two weeks at number one and the three tracks rule would probably send Someone You Loved out of the singles chart (at least for a week o two).

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th April 2021, 09:02 PM

Well he's already confirmed his next album won't be out until 2022 now!

Posted by: Suedehead2 29th April 2021, 09:10 PM

Maybe he means that he will release it one day just after twenty past eight in the evening biggrin.gif

Posted by: Slayer 29th April 2021, 09:11 PM
