Merry Christmas all! I was going to wait until New Year to post this but I had a bit of time today so I thought why not make it my Christmas pressie to Buzzjack.
 I wasn’t sure which songs to include but in the end I’ve decided to keep it fairly simple and just include the blue and red album track lists plus their 3 Top 10 hits from the 1990s. I thought about adding their 22 most Spotify streamed others to bring it up to 100 but I think we’ve got enough. I’m leaving out the “Movie Medley” and their covers of “Ain’t She Sweet” and “ My Bonnie” which don’t feel like they bring anything much anyway, and the other tracks from the “Magical Mystery Tour EP” which are good but don’t feel especially notable in the canon. I’ll set a deadline of Wednesday 31 January 2024 at 23:59. Please vote for your favourite 50 of the 78 tracks, giving +50 to your favourite, +49 to your second favourite and so on down to +1 for your 50th favourite. Please endeavour to listen to any songs you don’t know, and to that end there will be a listen-through from 16:00 on Sunday 14 January. There is around 4 hours of material but feel free to only join for part - the order will be as below. I’m not going to make any distinction between the 2023 re-mastered versions of the songs and the originals - feel free to score up any where you think the edits have improved them or not as you see fit. I think I will need to play all of these! (Except the covers, bar Twist & Shout, and Old Brown Shoe, Octopus' garden, Glass Onion, I Me Mine which have no chance of making my 50). Oddly, my fave version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is the "Love" Album revamp of an earlier non-Clapton version.

OK I played the entire Red & Blue albums and the extras, and tried to eliminate nostalgia and rate them according to what I'm listening to - not entirely easy to do that, and mood at any given time will affect how I feel about any given record - that's always been the case - so this is just a snapshot of the remixes really. F'rinstance, some come out of it really well, and some sound worse than the original mono single release (Hi Love Me Do, this really did you no favours at all). Of course in 6 months time the order will be different, music is fluid and up and down according to your life.

Missing, total faves like When I'm 64, I Need You, I Should Have Known Better, Rain, Two Of Us, No reply, She's Leaving Home, Golden Slumbers, Because, Good Night, my picks among many other songs that should have been on the Red & Blue albums instead of the filler listed here 68 to 78. Others, of course, will have different views  |
